It was my senior year of High School, I had finally made some good friends and used to clog up my parents land line and just standing outside on the phone talking away. We had a ranch style house with a fairly long driveway, and across the street from my house was one giant field, so if you stood on the driveway of my house looking across the street, there was nothing but empty field as far as you can see. At the end of the driveway, was our mailbox which stood next to the only streetlight on the block. One night, I was standing at the end of my driveway talking on the phone to a friend and my mother kept popping her head out the front door complaining for me to get off the phone and come inside, as it was late. Me being a teenager, I gave her the “give me five minutes” line multiple times, and kept talking. At some point, I started hearing my name being called again, only this time, it was more of a loud whisper, like when you are quietly trying to get someone’s attention. I distinctly remember saying to my friend something along the lines of “Oh my god, she’s yelling at me again.” and kept talking. I heard my name being called again. I ignored it and kept talking. I hear, “Come over here.” I turn around, and realize the front door is closed. “That’s pretty odd” I thought to myself. I said bye to my friend and headed inside. I get inside and complain to my mom that she didn’t have to keep yelling at me, she could have just allowed me to finish my call, to which she responded that she hadn’t stuck her head outside in like an hour. Hours later at around 2 am, while in my room watching a movie, I got up and headed to the kitchen to make some food. My mom, who had heard me in the kitchen, yelled from the bedroom to make sure the front door was locked before I went to bed. I walked out of the kitchen and headed to the front door, making sure it was locked. The front door was one of those that had frosted glass in the center, so that you could look through it clearly in tiny sections. I did what I normally do and looked through one of the tiny clear sections and habitually looked at the street lamp at the end of the driveway. I couldn’t see the street lamp... for a split second I thought maybe the light was out... until whomever was standing on the other side of the glass moved to the side. I sprinted to my parent’s room, waking my dad and telling him what just happened. He got out of bed with my mom, grabbed a bat and went outside to check. They didn’t find anything… Nervous and afraid, I go to bed. Next morning, I wake up and head to my car to go to school. The driver’s side door was slightly open, figured I had just moronically left it open the night before. School ends and I get home to find a police car in my driveway. Apparently, someone had broken into our garage over night and stole everything of worth. Not only that, the person had robbed several other homes on our block over the course of the past week.. I’m horrified to think that whoever it was, was literally hiding somewhere around my house, baiting me while I was on the phone, and then HOURS later was still outside looking in through the front door. It’s been ten years since and I am still shook... This story took place a few years ago. To this day, I still wonder what could have happened if it ended differently.. At the time I lived in a small apartment block in a big city, about 10 minutes from a train station. It was around 11pm. After a night out and a few drinks with my girlfriend, we decided it was time to head home. The area I lived in wasn’t the safest… It’s worth saying that at the time there were a lot of reports of robberies and stabbings around my block. To get back to my apartment, you would walk along a relatively busy road and make a turn down a smaller road that doesn't get much traffic at that time of the night. As me and my girlfriend approach our turning point, a car does an emergency stop right next to us. The car is pretty beat up and blasting obnoxiously loud music. Out of nowhere, two guys jump out, and the car speeds away. They're standing right next to us and I immediately feel like something bad is about to happen.. I spot a gap in traffic, and my girlfriend and I make a run for it across the road. The two guys are blocked by cars but are watching us the whole time, following our every move with their eyes. We start moving faster and make the turn down our street. I can hear two guys jogging up behind us, getting closer and closer. A little way down the street I see two big guys walking towards us laughing and joking. This immediately draws my attention to the fact the guys behind us haven't said anything to each other since jumping out the car. It's probably only been a minute or two but they've said nothing. When the two guys come in to view I can hear the footsteps behind us slow down, they're obviously hanging back until these two guys in front of us will pass. At this point I hear the obnoxious, loud music again, and see the car from earlier driving towards us. I realize that after dropping the two guys off next to us, the car did a big loop to come around right in front of us, which makes everything seemed to be planned. As we walked past the two big guys, we broke into a run all the way down the street to the door of our building. At this point I've got my keys out and I can hear running behind us again. I am terrified as I am not alone, I have my girlfriend with me as well which can make things escalate much quicker… I get to the door and try to get the key in, my hands are shaking like crazy and I miss the keyhole the first few times. Everything is going in slow motion. We are both panicking, certain we are about to get stabbed. After what feels like ages, I finally get the key in and the door open. We step in and I push the door closed as hard as I can. My door has one of those anti-slam hinges, so as I'm pushing, it's closing really, really slow. I can see the two guys speeding towards the front door. We manage to get the door closed and run off down the corridor out of sight. We get into my apartment and make sure to keep the light off, just in case the guys are still outside trying to figure out which place ours. I check the windows, and after a while see the guys finally leave, jumping back inside the same beat down, creepy looking car. We never took this path home ever again…
