11 we just got our hands on surveillance video interrogation recordings of a man accused of beating a man up and then tying him up to a van before driving away for a few blocks in late September police arrested Eric Bridges after a man was found left for dead in the streets of montree they say it was this van highlighted in the video that Bridges was driving when he pulled into an apartment complex early on a Monday morning it's there the investigators believe bridges used the van to attack his victim before investigators say Bridges drove down 36 Street with the victim tied to the van that's where the video was blurred out what do you want the jury to hear they go hear what they hear they going believe what they believe they AB at the end of the day and you don't want to tell them your side of why you did this ain't no telling my side why I did this I didn't do nothing this video contains the interrogation of a suspect who beat a man and dragged him with a van Eric Bridges Jr had been drifting around town sometimes staying with friends and other times in whatever empty building he could find he only worked occasionally which left him plenty of time to get into trouble without any known reason he got into a confrontation with another man and severely beat him before tying him to a van and dragging him a considerable distance despite an eyewitness and surveillance footage Bridges maintained that he had nothing to do with the incident um what what did you do Thursday tell me about your day Thursday from like lunchtime on I could let me ask you this Wednesday did or if it is another cause such as his malnourishment but you didn't see any keys in there did you think anything about that being suspicious that that where do you think he got the van from that's no had that for a while has it been active the entire time being on service working service working it might be off a couple days here know but in in the last two weeks has your phone been on constant for the last two weeks I'll even go hasn't been on the last last week from this Sunday to last Sunday it's been on entire the whole time yeah okay all right so and it's been with you it hasn't been with anybody else would anybody else use your phone I don't there plenty people use my phone okay has anybody ever used your phone out of your presence yes Thursday night and Friday morning where was your for the most part my phone be with me for the most part but I can't tell you what day it was that my phone wasn't with me who would you let have your phone and I need to benefit you I need to of the one of them had a fold up case I saw the smaller phone is mine okay well both of them are mine but smaller one is the smaller one's the 801 number that you've had for the LA that's been on and active for at least the last week and a half two weeks and then the other phone is some girl's phone what's the phone number to that one don't know you don't know what it is you just got a phone you can't use or you can use it well prob being able to use it but she had a code in there that I cannot get into and I don't know where she's at okay because girl bought it out the street was trying to get some what color is your phone or the case on your phone both of them in Black does yours have a case on them yes all right all right so you've never seen this guy before at all the van we showed you is not you haven't ever been inside of it okay well we you know one of the things that is uh is good is because if you you haven't been in that van you said right there's no way and you're you've never you don't know this guy so if you don't know him and you never seen him then you would have never touched him or anything like that so one of the things that that we're going to compare is DNA DNA doesn't lie everybody's got a specific one so what we would like to do is we'll take a swab from you your DNA and we'll match it up to that van and we'll match it up to the guy and obviously since you haven't been in the van and you haven't touched this guy your DNA we're not going to find it on them so that's a great way to rule you out so would you be willing to give us a sample of your DNA to compare to those sure y already have my DNA anyway well we don't the state has it but I I mean I can write a warrant and go get it from them but that's that that this is will give DNA that would rule you out like that yeah because your DNA ain't gonna come back in that van and your DNA isn't going to come back on him right because you you didn't touch him or be in the van let's go okay cool confident that they will not find anything but he underestimates just how easy it has become to find even Trace Amounts of DNA when there hasn't been an attempt to clean the search area so now it's because you you didn't have any involvement in it but if somebody ties somebody up to the back of a car or a van or a truck or whatever and they drag them down the road what do you think should happen the answer he expects that the detectives want to hear since no innocent person would condone such an action do want the other as you want to you well yeah that's a good theory because you don't the metal is it depends on how much money you get they pay you by weight or what it depends on the weight and the type of product it is uh like copper will get more than you know aluminum and stuff right I mean it's been a hot minute since I was in burglar but um that can't pay much how much you get out of that not much a lot depends like you say depends on how much brain okay how much it we you Ain have no seats in it but was there anything where the seat should have been like other scrapping material or anything like that that you can think of all right so wait a minute I'm lost so there's and a half two weeks ago you was in one van right and then but later part of this last week Thursday or Friday you met a guy over off Division in Grand Park and did he have stuff in his van or did you have stuff and you put it in the van to take it to the scrap yard I put some stuff in this car to tapes to scrap scard okay what color was that van like a teal teal color what do you remember what make it was oh fair enough fair enough but you've been in two different vans in the last couple weeks a grayish one or something and then a tealish colored one did you drive or did he drive he drove to his scrapyard right but then the where did you put your stuff at the scrap stuff in back okay and you didn't see anything back there that stood out to you I say beside that they didn't have no seats but it was empty other than the F okay makes sense and he where he and he picked you up and you've never seen him before day in your life you I us been you being on the neighborhood so you w getting in the you wern't doing no Strang or danger you w getting in a vehicle with somebody you didn't totally right well B that I'm not a child I but there's some crazy people out there now yeah don't be getting in a band with somebody crazy clowns one clowns driver onun the band that's scary too so you're you're just over by division and this guy drives up no was actually staying over there on division okay so you're staying on division yeah does he come to your house your apartment or does he see on the side of the road no I just see him in the neighborhood he he actually stayed a little further down somewhere but other than that so you you reach out to him and say hey I need to go to the scrap yard can you take me out there how did that work or was he already headed to the scrapyard and we're just trying to help you out with understand he actually stopped me okay because what I took in was stuff that I got from my job okay from doing one of the jobs okay and I had sitting on the side of the house okay he quiet on it I told trying to take it to the scrap yard I'm trying to find a slot that I go well like well I can take you to one all right I don't know everybody don't do and you don't what what was his name again I said I don't you just know forood older black right and some and you weren't driving no somebody he was driving okay and it's like a teal color van that day that day yeah and what did you scrap some um Lumina and copper okay gotcha and you you said approximately when was that I never said when it was no so I'm asking approximately when was that this was probably not too long ago within the last couple days okay got you okay anyway we could find this guy or or any idea how we could find him CU that would help too I think go around to visit so somewhere between like 13th and 18th okay okay um so you've been in the office like this before no you never been were you been arrested before yes you've been in prison before yes so you've been interviewed before no how'd you go to what' you go to prison for I went to prison for a bar on on the law enforcement officer ENT whatever uhhuh resisting arrest with violence grant that AO while listing his former charges Bridges reveals that he does have a history of violence and stealing cars those crimes can't be used against him in this case but it makes the detective sure that they have the right man L marijuana less than 20 grand how long did you do 8 years I just got out when did you get out June last year okay okay um so obviously you know most some we're not the smartest guys in the world so there's some stuff we don't know the answers to we try to figure out what's going on that happens a lot um and I we've both been doing this for a really long time sometimes too long that's what all the gray hair is from you know and really honestly nothing personal good to anybody that comes in here really I've never met you before you never met me um our job is pretty simple um you just find facts that's it you just go find the facts and you put it together and that's it the end and then you go to the next case and the next case and the next case but so most everything that we've asked you tonight is stuff we knew the answer to and it's really a test it was a test you were you were being tested to see if you'd be truthful or not you're truthful about some stuff you're full of [ __ ] on some other stuff and you know that and I know that and he knows that and we did a little little dance here it's all it was you want to see how smart we were we're really good our job okay we danced we're done dancing okay you know that you did good okay but it's over the dance is done now here's the reality some of the stuff you said ain't true you know that and we know that and you can tell us the truth if you want to if you don't I don't care we already got facts you scrapped you drove there you were in the van we got it registered we got video it's you nobody else there's one thing I have a lot of stuff that we've been working on the last few days okay because we're good it's our job it's nothing personal okay it's not I I don't I again never met you I don't care I'm GNA have another case tomorrow and another case the next day and I'm not going to sweat those cases either I'm not we' been cordial make sure you understood your rights and you can tell us the truth if you want to again I don't really care if you don't the evidence is there you can't make up evidence you can't man facture things so why lie why do you want to tell the truth or do you want to just hang on to those lies and hope that a jury believes that because the evidence that we have that we're going to give to them and then all they're going to see is this they're
