got I've got City Hall right over there I want to go visit the police department first hello this police warrants reserve parking Lopez public works police vehicles only beyond this point what's up um is this the police department right there where's the public entrance right okay cool thank you visual recording equipment including still photography a non-moving photograph public meetings allowed only in areas of marked and reserved for such use camera flash devices may not be used except during recesses of or breaks in the meetings the use of equipment for visual recording including still photography is not permitted in any other interior area of the Lotus City Hall municipal complex at any time during a public meeting really tape recording of meetings without a visual recording or still photography is permitted in any area of the council chambers open to the general public thanks for the permission on e over to our video recording beyond this point is not permitted that's all right can I get an open records request form okay even for police records okay Missouri is there a supervisor or a watch commander prison okay nobody here okay I noticed a sign right there that I need to have removed can I remove it for you or yeah there's a sign on the window right there that meets that needs to be removed okay maybe we can get ahold of a supervisor about again you guys are short-handed if it's all right with you I could remove it for you oh okay maybe there's a supervisor who can yeah okay I just don't want people thinking that it's actually not okay to come in here and write so that's why you guys take them to a private interview room cuz I what right I mean I'm here to speak to an officer and so no I just wanted to do a follow-up on some incidents that happened so I don't need to make a report but I do need to do a follow-up on a previous report and the problem with that sign note is that when victims do come in we do like to document what's going on and in our interactions with police and we don't want victims thinking that it's not okay to film their public servants while work it's actually a friend of mine who's a victim he's afraid to come in at this point but yeah a friend of mine is a victim and like I said this does need to be documented and again I don't want people thinking victims believing that they can't document their interactions and well under the law it doesn't depend on any circumstances under the opinion of the oh hello des Police Department it man I'm sorry now your supervisors are actually their job is actually to enforce law not to create law and so they're actually bound by the laws as well I know that it's it's a little difficult for police to understand this yeah they're used to just doing whatever they want and so but yeah they're actually bound by the law so the supervisor can't act do you guys have supervisors here that are legislators or judges well because it sounds like your supervisors are writing new laws about okay so policies will actually apply to city employees but they won't apply to no no that's that's actually not the way it works the city property is public property and therefore the laws actually govern that area and so you know as far as turner versus driver no no you don't need to argue yeah okay yeah no no there's no need to argue just just comply with the law you don't need to argue with me again yeah again you don't need to argue just just you know all right so I'll go ahead and get an open oh so I need the open records request over there okay I'll go ahead and hang out for a while so you can let them know that it looks like you've got somebody else here waiting for an officer too so I'll go ahead and hang out for a while though you can let them know that I'm waiting for them and in the meantime I'll go get the records request yeah I need to speak to a supervisor about following up on an incident like I told you that's that's going on wait like I said I'll wait looking out for me or just just time to make sure I don't get arrested or something yeah no no we're uh yeah and I highly recommend that people do it I'm here on official business and these guys are public servants you know most of them are pre are great people they're very wonderful they're very nice but we need to document what we're doing with our government and our interactions with them because I know this may be hard to believe but they sometimes lie I know government sometimes lies and so if we document our interactions with them then they can't lie about what happened later so thank you though I appreciate it you guys have open records request forms here can I get I'll just get one and I'll take it home and make copies I'm gonna need to do a whole bunch for them so I'll just I'll make copies of it myself it's it's actually police records that I need but yeah but no matter whose medical that's a different no no no medical I'll just honestly I'll just take one because I don't even know at this point how many all needs so I'll take one and I'll make the copies myself and do your officers wear body cameras okay they told me there's no police present at the building today yeah the police department yeah they said there's not even a police officer here or a supervisor or anything so I mean that's fine um I mean it's really everything I've got is really police matters and so I think that I I mean I just don't know that this City Administrator would be able to help me with what I need I appreciate it though I really do thank you for all right what was your name Belinda RM James thank you you know actually I would like to speak to a city administrator that I may be able to smooth talk some things over with with them if yeah I appreciate it thank you city you doing good so I saw the front you guys are very social media friendly is that correct yes you guys have got a YouTube Facebook Twitter Instagram you got it alright alright so I looked up below with this on YouTube okay and some disturbing videos okay and so I came in actually to talk to the police department about it and and about some of their procedures and policies and when I got here there's a sign on the police department door that says there's no recording inside of there which there's there's no law against it as a matter of fact we we have law and case law here in this area this is that we can record in public publicly accessible places and so I had asked them to just remove this sign from the door that says no recording in here they said that there's no supervisors no no chief nobody to deal with that issue at this time as a city whose pretty photography and social media friendly I just like to see it addressed and fixed and we all make mistakes I think that that one video was that I saw on YouTube was probably just a bad day maybe but maybe we can get this all fixed to get that sign taken off the door let people know that they can and should record public servants when we're dealing with our official business what do you think well you'll notice my building doesn't have any of those signs on it I do I do notice with somebody giving in you're videotaping or whatever I mean if people may not like the answers to some of our questions or to some of their questions that we give them but that's certainly gonna address it as best we can are there any you know that's my I told her I think that all of my concerns are with the police department but I figured it wouldn't hurt to speak with you and let you know that the community has concerns with the police department and and with you guys being apparently so social media friendly and aware I thought that it might be worthwhile to bring it to your attention I appreciate that I'll look into the to the side that you're talking about you know I don't know if we as had we used to have something we do on court days have those signs on doors here for court because this building serves as both City Hall but on court days it also serves as a court room and so the judge has a standing order that there's no videotaping during court and we do abide by that and that is in accordance of state law or just on court dates though okay every other day and even before the court starts we don't have those right right there maybe you guys could get leon valley to comply with stuff like that i'm not going to I mean that seems pretty reasonable to me what you guys are doing here but yeah like I said I don't know how much control you have over the police department again with you guys being far more compliant with the law I don't I'm not over the operations of the police department but if there's a concern about what's most no they're all talk with chief ugly about them okay yeah I mean I offered to remove it for him but they they declined so okay I'll talk to you later all right hey I appreciate it sweetie you think you never get one
