Sometimes when calls come in and people are in crisis uh or it looks like that there's a mental health issue and it could be anything from a neighbor dispute to a domestic to somebody that's threatening self harm to you name it is that if we have the mental health team the co-responder model with a response team which is a deputy or an officer from one of those cities and the CRS crisis response specialist then they'll respond again to handle it better because cops are not qualified to handle this. You know what cops are going to do is evaluate it and if they can act, which means to arrest somebody or take them into custody under the state's mental health involuntary examination law, which in Florida we call the Baker Act. So they do what cops do and that is to remove the person from that situation to solve the problem. And so they get Bakeracted and then they go to the crisis stabilization unit as it's called uh receiving facility and they say, "Yeah, you're not really in crisis." Well, they may not be in crisis, acute crisis by their evaluation, but it doesn't mean they're okay either. And then they get out and then they do the same thing again and we get called. Well, what do we do? Baker act them. Okay. And so it's just a cycle to no place. But if you have a mental health professional there and they can do an evaluation, the idea is not to baker act. If we can leave the people there and then get them services and then the followup teams come in on the backside and they will follow up with those people in the subsequent days to make sure that they are getting into services and talk to caregivers, family members, others that to help them. All these people with mental and behavioral health issues. They don't want to be sick. They don't want to have these issues. But if they and if they could fix their problem by themselves, they would. They can't. They need somebody to hold their hand and guide them through the process. You need navigators. need case management, but a lot of the people within the mental health system haven't affected that. So, we decided to affect it ourselves, and we are.
