hey everybody its James Freeman hey guys today I'm sharing a story with you and the reason I'm sharing it is because there's a few things about it that seem a little bit odd to me we're gonna go ahead and start with the Dallas Morning News report man driving stolen pickup fatally shot by Farmers Branch police in Northwest Dallas a Farmers Branch police officer shot and killed a 35 year old man at the wheel of a stolen pickup as he attempted to flee Wednesday night in Northwest Dallas Dallas police are investigating the 7:00 p.m. shooting of Juan Menino outside a strip shopping center in the 11 400 block of Emerald Street off Royal Lane just west of Interstate 35e on Thursday police said they obtained additional video evidence as part of the investigation wfaa-tv channel 8 included video and a report that shows the officer pointing his gun as the pickup veers widely around him and crashed into other parked cars afterward the officer apprehends one of the truck's passengers who has jumped out of the vehicle Farmers Branch officers had been monitoring the pickup which was reported stolen in Irving and saw and saw it backed into a parking spot with three people inside police said as one of the officers began to approach the vehicle the driver began to pull out of the space and one of the officers fired through the windshield striking the man driving Moreno was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead one of the officers suffered a minor injury during the incident and was being treated at a hospital - the two unharmed passengers were detained for questioning because the shooting occurred in Dallas it is being investigated by Dallas Police Department's Special Investigations Unit the Dallas County District Attorney is also conducting an independent investigation of the incident police said so let me review some of the things that seem pretty strange to me here Farmers Branch officers had been monitoring the pickup I'm assuming since it was in their jurisdiction in Farmers Branch they appear to have follow it out to Dallas and saw it parked in the parking lot it says here also is one of the officers began to approach the vehicle the driver began to pull out of the space and one of the officers shot through the windshield striking the man now this makes it sounds as it sound as if the truck was coming at the officer because that's the only way that bullets would strike the windshield rather than maybe the side windows or the rear window so what's interesting is that the headline picture for this story shows the truck and as you can see the windshield is completely undamaged nobody fired any shots through the windshield the shots were fired through the driver's window well it turns out later that there's actually video evidence of what happened from security cameras in the shopping mall parking lot so I don't know what the department's use of force policy is here but as you can see the officers life certainly was never in danger because of that I believe he'll be convicted of murder on this now I want to look at this from another perspective as well because as most of you know I don't actually believe that a lot of the written legislation and policies are good or right now a lot of people will believe that they have the right to defend their life their liberty and their property by any means necessary now looking at it from that perspective would it be okay for the owner of the truck to take the man's life in order to protect his own property and if the answer to that question is yes then the next question to me would be does the officer have the right to take the man's life to protect someone else's property so I really want to put myself in this officers shoes and say I'm sitting here watching somebody steal my vehicle I'm armed I could shoot and kill this guy and stop him from getting away with my property but if I shoot him I'm going to damage my own property he's most likely going to wreck my property my property is going to be lost if I let him go my insurance company is going to make me whole again I'm not actually gonna lose anything let me know what you guys think in the comments below following the incident we all we'll see the officer being taken away on a stretcher it is alleged that he suffered injuries during the shooting but the police have refused to tell us what those injuries are as a Friday evening police say he is still in the hospital recovering
