There's a lot to love about living, working, and playing in Penllis County. And one of my most favorite things is the Penllis Trail. Hi, I'm Penllis County Commissioner Brian Scott. My wife and I spend a lot of time on the trail. It's a great place to exercise, get some fresh air, even get from one part of the county to the other. But there's some basic rules you need to follow to keep yourself and other trail users safe. Whether you're walking or biking, stay single file, stay to the right, and pass to the left, and warn others before passing. Remember to always be alert. Look and listen for other trail users. If you need to take a break or pull over to the side, stay to the side and stay out of the way. And finally, always use safe speeds, especially in crowded areas of the trail. I'm Sheriff Bob Gualieri. Generally, motorized vehicles are prohibited on the Penelis Trail. There are some exceptions though for Segways, electric wheelchairs, and electric bicycles. When it comes to electric bicycles, keep in mind there are three classes of electric bicycles. And the one thing that they have in common is that they all have pedals. So if you have a two- wheeled unregistered vehicle without pedals, not only is it prohibited on the trail, but it's illegal on public roadways and sidewalks. As always, pay attention to signals and traffic control devices. When you come to a crossing, stop and cross cautiously. There are hundreds of these emergency assistance markers along the trail that have a unique location number. In an emergency, call 911. And if you don't know where you are, provide the number. And if you have a safety concern or want to report a maintenance issue on the trail, call Penllis County at 727-582-2100. >> Be courteous to others and help us help you stay safe on the trail. >> To learn more, go to penllis.gov and we'll see you on the trail.
