We're here today in Washington Park on this beautiful day to uh give you some instruction about some of the things that occur in our city that usually crop up during the summertime with it being Memorial Day and it coming up very soon. We want to talk to you about a couple of issues. One is curfew. Now, curfew, the hours, in case anyone's confused about the hours, is 11 to 5 in the morning. No kid under the age of 17 can be on any public space between those hours without supervision from their parents. Now, the fine for this particular offense is $84. Adults who allow their children to be out after curfew can be fined $165. One of the other things that we see cropping up during this period of the year is fireworks. Now, a lot of people think that they can possess certain types of fireworks, but I'm here to tell you that in the city of Milwaukee, all fireworks are illegal. That includes sparklers. Now, a lot of people think that they can have a permit and that will allow them to possess fireworks. You can't possess, you can't sell, and you can't use fireworks in the city of Milwaukee. Doing so will also net you an $84 fine. As a juvenile, and as an adult, it'll cost you $689. One of the other activities that we find and have to investigate and deal with on a regular basis during the summertime is cruising. And we see it rearing its ugly head again. You have general disorder. You have people hanging out of their cars generally. You have a lot of loud music going on. You have a lot of, you know, people just acting generally disorderly and unruly and bringing a lot of noise and that type of thing. crash to specific areas, which decreases the quality of life for the people in that area. Now, cruising is prohibited between the hours of 8 and 5:00 p.m. in the designated areas. Now, you can find those designated areas on the city's website. Cruising causes nuisances in neighborhoods, loud noise, etc. And there's been a lot of incidents that have stemmed from cruising. There has been violence associated with cruising and it starts with people who are cruising and getting into arguments and disputes with one another and it has resulted in gunplay and violence in our city. So, it's something we like to prevent and we ask that you citizens just don't do it. There's other ways that you can enjoy yourself in this city. So, those are activities that we don't want you to participate in. What you can do is come nice places like this Washington Park and enjoy yourself in the city and not involve yourself in some of these other activities that are against city ordinances in the city of Milwaukee.
