well first and foremost uh we once again offer our profound and sincere condolences to the uh Atkins Pearson and Hamilton families on the tragic loss of their loved ones uh it's just a dreadful set of circumstances no one should have to bury a child and our hearts go out to them second point we just want to make is you've seen the film they self-evidently demonstrate the cause of the deaths of these young people was The Reckless and callous behavior of the criminals who were driving these vehicles in both instances the tapes make clear the police exercised restraint consistent with their training and it's important that the families understand that and that the general public understands that police of necessity in the normal course of their duties must be able to conduct threshold inquiries of suspicious vehicles and people and certainly must be able to investigate allegations that a car has just moments ago been stolen and is being driven away in the vision of the police officer these are the circumstances that surrounded these two terrible incidents and as you've just seen in both cases drivers of the police vehicle behaved responsibly the behaviors of the suspect Vehicles behaved irresponsibly and criminally
