I just got off work. I promise I have >> Where's work? Uh Hooters. My uniform's in the car. Okay. Well, I want to make sure you're safe to be driving. Yes. Yes. All right. Legitimately, I'm going to check your eyes and make sure you're safe to be driving. All right. Do you have any problems that you know of? Not blind in any eye? Do you wear glasses or contacts? Now, what I want you to do is put your feet together for me like this till it almost touch touching. The first thing I want you to do is just tilt your head back looking at the sky. A little bit more. Okay. I want you to close your eyes and I want you to just try to relax. So, you want me to relax? Just relax. Tilt your head back. Tilt your head Okay. You can open your eyes. Do you see a red light on my pen? >> I do. I want you to follow that with your eyes. Eyes only without moving your head. Do you understand? >> Yes. Okay. Thank you. Up and down now, okay? Just your eyes. Couple circles around your face now. I want you to follow it as I'm moving it around the circle. And then I'm going to start moving it towards the bridge of your nose like this. Okay? Not going to touch you. It's going to feel like your >> want to cross. All right. One more time. Twice. All right. This is where I I'm seeing some signs of impairment. I'm going to give you the opportunity to show me you're okay to be driving. >> Okay. Yes. Would you mind going through some additional field sobriety exercises for me? >> Yes. I will. I'm going to get you set up and then we're going to go ahead. We're probably going to do it over this parking lot. All right. Do you have any physical defects? Physical defects? No. Are you sick or injured right now? >> I am not. Um are you diabetic? I am not. No. Take insulin? Wear glasses or contacts? What's your highest level of education? Uh I'm in I'm in college. I go to UCF. Good for you. Good for you. I do. Okay. Have you consumed any alcoholic beverages in the past 24 hours? All right. So, this first exercise I'm going to do with you is called the walk and turn. Mhm. What I'm going to do is put you in a starting position. Okay. Once I put you in a starting position, I don't want you to move from your starting position. Okay. Now, this might sound like a silly question, but do you know your left from your right? Which one's your right? This is my right. Which one's your left? >> This is my left. You got it. You see this line of tape that's in front of you? >> Do you see anything that would prevent you from walking that line of tape? Any potholes, rocks, or sticks like that in the way? I don't know. You don't? Okay. Do you have any reason why you can't walk down that line? All right. Can you back up just a little bit for me? But I want you to do the starting position like this. Go ahead and place your left foot on the line for me. Take your right foot, place it directly in front of your left foot with the heel of your right foot touching toes of your left. Hands down at your sides. Now, I want you to remain in this position while I give you further instructions. Do you understand? Don't start anything until I tell you to do so. Do you understand the instructions so far? Very good. For this exercise, when I tell you to begin, you're going to take nine heel-to-toe steps down this line. At the end of your ninth step, you're going to make a turn which I'm going to demonstrate for you. Okay. And you're going to take nine more heel-to-toe steps back down the line. Okay. I'm going to demonstrate what it's going to look like. One. Two. While you're doing this, I want you to keep your hands down at your sides. I want you to watch your feet at all times while you're walking. Count each step out loud so I can hear you. And once you start this exercise, I don't want you to stop until you feel you've completed it. >> Okay. Do you understand the instructions? Any questions? No questions. Okay. When you're ready, you can begin. Ready. One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Eight. Nine. Turn. One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Eight. Nine. All right. This next exercise is called the one leg stand. What I want you to do is put your left foot on the line like that. And your other foot right next to it just like you're standing. Hands down at your sides. Now, I want you to remain in this position while I give you further instructions. Do you understand? Don't start anything until I tell you to do so. Okay. You're going to point your right foot forward so the foot is parallel with the ground. I want you to keep both your legs straight and your hands down at your sides. While holding this position, I want you to look down at your raised foot and count out loud in the following manner. 1,001, 1,002, 1,003, and so on until I tell you to stop counting. >> Okay. Okay? Now, during the exercise, I want you to keep your hands down at your sides. Are you still balanced? I don't want you to sway. I don't want you to hop. And I don't want you to put your foot down. Okay. If you happen to drop your foot like I just did, for example, and let's say that was 1,005, just pick it back up, continue counting where you left off. Do I count to a certain number? >> Okay. You don't have to start over. So, you're going to continue counting until I tell you to stop. >> Okay. Okay? So, if this was 1,005, pick it right back up, 1,006, 1,007, 1,008, and so on until I tell you to stop counting. >> Okay. Do you understand the instructions? Any questions? No questions. Okay. For my reference, which leg will you be using to rest to raise up? Don't do anything yet. Okay. Cool. Back in the starting position for me. I know it's on my right. Don't go on my right. I will start my time when you pick up your leg and begin counting out loud. Ready. Whenever you're ready. 1,001. 1,002. 1,003. 1,004. 1,005. 1,006. This next exercise is called finger to nose, okay? Bring your hands down and turn your palms forward just like this. This is the starting position, okay? I want you to remain in this position while I give you further instructions. Do you understand? >> Yes. Very good. When I tell you to begin, you're going to tilt your head back and close your eyes. Don't do anything yet. You're going to hear me say left or right. >> Okay. When you hear me say left, I want you to bring your left hand up, touch the tip of your left index finger to the tip of your nose, and immediately return it down to your side in one fluid motion. When you hear me say right, I want you to bring your right hand up, touch the tip of your right index finger to the tip of your nose, and immediately return it down to your side in one fluid motion. Okay. Okay. Now, for all the purposes of this exercise, what I mean by the tips of your fingers, these are the tips of your fingers, okay? Should I use my index finger? >> Do anything yet. Just listen. These are the tips. This is the pad. These are your sides. This is your nail, knuckle. I don't want you to use any of that. Okay. Use the very tip of your finger to the very tip of your nose. Do you understand the instructions? Any questions? >> Okay. So, you're here. Palm to palm down. Go ahead and begin. Do you remember what you're supposed to do when you hear begin? I don't know. Tilt your head back. >> Okay. I was waiting for you to tell me. Yep. Close those eyes. Keep those eyes closed the entire time. Left. Right. Left. Right. Right. Left. You can open your eyes. I have one last exercise, okay? You good? Yes. All right. This one's called modified Romberg balance. It sounds a lot harder than it is, okay? So, you're already standing there and your hands are down at your sides for me. Just remain in that position while I give you further instructions. Do you understand? All right. For this exercise, just like the last one, you're going to tilt your head back and close your eyes. You're going to hear me say begin. When you hear me say begin, I want you to remain in that position until you feel that 30 seconds has passed in your head. Not out loud. Once you feel you've reached 30 seconds in your head, just bring your head back down, open your eyes, and say stop. That's it. Got it. Do you understand the instructions? Any questions? >> Okay. Go ahead and tilt your head back for me. Close those eyes. Begin. Yep. Keep Keep those eyes closed. And begin. All right. How much time was that? 30 seconds. Okay. How did you get there?
