on November 29 2020 dispatch received a
call around 5 a.m about smoke coming
from an apartment in Tomah Wisconsin hi
um I'm standing outside of the mansions
in Tomah Wisconsin and there's a lot of
smoke coming out of a window upstairs
there was a guy hanging out the window
he said there was no fire but there's
still a lot of smoke coming out what
kind of smokes it look like marijuana
smoke it smelled kind it smelled like
kind of like cardboard smoke and what's
going on
oh it looks like there is a fire in the
in the house there is yes and the guy he
was hanging out the window and I asked
him if everything's all right is there a
fire up there and he said no we're good
and then he went back in and now it
looks like there's a bigger flame up
there yeah there's there's definite fire
up there

three police officers were first to
respond and noticed a large Fire coming
from the apartment

after being told there may be people
still in the building the officers
immediately took action and entered in I

the only thing that we know of is

Behind these buildings blocked off so we
have no traffic if you could move my

the North End
thankfully no one was seriously injured
one resident of the apartments was taken
to a local hospital for minor injuries
it was estimated 45 firefighters
responded to the scene
the cause of the fire was ruled
undetermined fire investigators were
confident that it was not intentionally
set
according to the fire chief the roof and
part of the second floor collapsed
leaving no safe way to get in and
physically assess the fire's origin
the insurance company of one of the
destroyed buildings declined to provide
the resources to pull the scene apart
stating the expenses outweigh the
benefits
as a result of the fire at least two
historic buildings were destroyed and a
third severely damaged
