Welcome back to part two. Officers are attempting to cross check McKenzie's story against her husband's claims, but a crucial account from a friend staying at the house is about to blow the case wide open. I have witnessed that she literally called me on Snapchat and said "Hey, I just want you know like I'm going to back for you like I know I [ __ ] up but >> Okay, so she is in your wife called on this other lady's phone? >> Other lady's phone. >> Okay. And told him >> Not to say anything and to deny it. >> Okay, when did she make that phone call? >> Uh yeah, it was exactly probably >> Well, like tonight? >> Yeah, it was tonight. Yeah. >> Okay. Yeah, okay. >> Yeah, she just did. Um Tammy is her name. She'll clear everything cuz she doesn't really want to be involved in that. Don't blame her. I feel bad about it. >> Okay. >> Um everything just kind of just came out tonight and >> Sure. >> So. >> Sure. Sounds like when is Taco Taco Trauma? I always get it wrong, but Taco Trauma is that in the fall? I forget. >> Um it was Oh, shoot. Probably 3 months ago. >> Okay, so 3 months ago the the texts between her and him that you screenshotted on Snapchat. >> Those That was not during that time. >> Okay, that's those are more like that's in the last week. >> last week. Yeah. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> That's why I took her phone. >> Sure. >> Took it from her. >> Okay. How did you see those? Like how did you come across those? >> It's just so crazy. I just had this weird feeling. Um you know, kind of being on through a little bit and I just had this really weird feeling. And I hopped on her phone and searched her phone and that's when I saw it. >> On Snapchat. Does her phone have a password to get into it? >> Yeah. >> And you know that password? >> Yeah. >> Okay, and she gave it to you? >> I I've always had her password. Um not for Snapchat, but I have her >> But to get into the phone, you've had her password for for a long time. Okay. Um so that's not >> decided to change it. >> Okay, but that's not a new new thing. You've had that for a long time. You've had access to her phone. >> Yeah, yeah. >> Okay. >> But she did like I grabbed the hit cuz she was like sleeping on it. So, I knew something So, obviously well, we you know, got you. >> That's not her normal routine. >> No. No. No. Never. She always plugs her phone in and puts on do not disturb and just goes to bed. >> Okay. Um and I'm just trying to verify her story basically with you a little bit. Um she said around Taco Trauma you gave alcohol. Again, I really don't care about giving alcohol to a kid. Um but she said you gave That was what she was communicating with him. >> Um So, he can pick me up cuz I had to meet beers with her. Um I'm going to be honest with you. I had to get I >> You gave him beer. Okay. Appreciate that. >> And um That was it. Went to bed. I I could tell that she was a little stressed with him, I guess. I don't know. I could just tell. But no, yep. I don't 100% admit yep, I gave him beer. Yep. >> Okay. Did you and her ever have issues about that? Like did she ever confront you or >> No. No. I just feel like something was up. Um we well, just went to bed that night. Um but she had to search his number up on Tik Tok or whatever to try and find his number to call me or to >> Mhm. >> So, I thought that was kind of weird. Like why she went out of her way to strap this guy out of all people when we literally live >> I mean at the bar like the Rialto? >> Uh not the Rialto. Um the community center down here which is right next to the golf course which is like >> Just as close. >> Yeah, exactly. So, I don't understand why she went out of her way to do that. >> Okay. So, she calls this kid to come pick you up and drive you home. >> Yep. >> Okay. >> Um >> Did you just >> go to American tell you that she told her everything. Um >> Sure. >> I don't know. I don't >> Okay. It sounds like again, just trying to verify holes in her story, um that this has been accused before of sleeping with teachers at St. John. >> Um I remember one time the kids always talked about it cuz I'm an assistant track coach there. So, that's the reason why I'm kind What the hell? Um He talks about Jen Johnson. >> Oh, yeah. Her name is yeah. Um >> Yeah. They would talk about you know how hot she is and pictures and stuff whatever. I don't know. I don't know if that any of that is true or not. But obviously this is very true and they have the Snapchat screenshots Yes, we go through call logs and stuff. I mean >> Why does she call him a lot? >> Uh not that I know of besides that. >> Does >> That one night and she really starts accepting so like there's no caller ID and like that's really weird. You know, I wish I would have gotten a photo of that but I didn't. Um >> And that's in her regular call logs. >> Yeah. >> That's her phone number is? Bernie? >> I don't. >> Okay. Never mind. We'll talk to you. >> this way. >> Does she not live in Pine City? >> No. No, I mean So so yes. >> Okay. Um Okay. Anything else you think I should know? >> I'm trying to think. I don't know if like she's trying to screw me over for giving him a beer. >> I literally don't care. >> But um >> Uh >> That's all I can like think of. >> Yeah. She also mentioned that there's been a lot of infidelity both ways. >> Okay. So yeah. So This happened like 8 months ago. I I didn't use it with somebody. Um >> [snorts] >> So like oral sex I guess but it wasn't her on the air or anything like that. It was just me. Um Put my fingers in her or whatever. Um but she was definitely of age. So I just got really messed up about her doing this with somebody her age. >> Okay. Okay. You guys Do you guys have an open relationship or like >> No. No, definitely not. Not that I knew if we just >> She forgave you for that. >> have been Yeah, we both have been broken and gone I mean this is So it's two times on her two times on me. >> Okay. Got you. When was the last time with her? >> With? >> She did She did it with someone else. >> Uh this like, uh I think a year and a half ago or two years ago. It was with a pair educator. It was like >> Got you. Okay, so cheating can happen both ways. The issue this time is because you think it's with someone who's 16. >> Right. >> That's the issue, not necessarily >> I mean, not that I know that he's 16. I mean, I know he's billing 16. I've known this kid forever. >> Okay. Hi there. >> Hello. >> My name's Amy. I'm recording, is that okay? >> Yeah. >> Okay. What what is going on tonight? >> Um, me and my husband, we came over tonight for barbecue, just baked beans and having the kids together and play. Me and McKenzie used to work together. It was the first time we were seeing him. Um, we just came over to hang out and they were kind of bantering back and forth like like I don't know what's going on in their marriage, but like you know when there's like undernight lightning, digs and whatnot. Um, and there was a comment about like what had happened last weekend that she had, I guess, this minor or this person, he's 16. There's And so there was comments back and forth about it. Me and Tyler stayed out of it. Um, tonight we went to bed. My kid was in the living room. My husband's on the air mattress and I just slept [snorts] upstairs and they had them in their master bedroom and then their third kid in their bed. Um, and I can hear them kind of bantering back and forth. I heard the door open at one point, shut. They're kind of going back and forth. I'm just laying in bed. You can hear mumbling of what's going through the wall. Um, she comes out like into the room crying and she's like, "I need to borrow your phone." Just crying. And I was like, "Okay." And then she's on the phone with him. what's going on at the time or who she's calling. And then she's like telling me that she ended up sleeping with this individual and I'm like, "Holy shit." Like, "This is not my scenario. This is not my to be in." Um, so my phone was used to call him. I want no part in this. This has nothing to do with me and my husband and what they have going on. So I just wanted it to be known to you guys what why my phone number would be popping up on my or individual's phone. Um, and then so my husband long story short, has cousins that are younger than him that still go to St. John's school district. She texted me and was like, "Hey, it popped up on his phone. I didn't respond back to her. I want nothing to do with this. So, I'm just letting it be known to you guys. Y'all can look at my phone. You can go through that. I have nothing Their [ __ ] is their [ __ ] I want nothing to do with it. I just want to let you know what's going on. Now we're at home instead of dealing with this. >> Appreciate that. Um, okay, so she You hear them muttering in the room. So, she comes in crying. >> She comes in crying, yeah. >> And then what happens when she comes in? >> So, when she comes in, she >> your phone? >> Yeah, she asked to use my phone. Calls him. She's calling him, and I'm like, "What the fuck?" Right? Like, "What the [ __ ] going on?" She's trying to tell me what's going on, and I'm like, >> Did she know his phone number off the top of her head or did she have to look >> She had her phone with her. Um, and then at that point, like, Garrett's upset. He's coming in the room. He's like, "I'm calling the cops. You're going to jail. You This is ridiculous. Like, you should have told me and came out with this a week ago. Like, X, Y, and Z." And I'm like, like, what do I do? Like, I can You know what I mean? Like, do I go downstairs? Like, do I leave? Like, I don't know what to do. I'm sitting in this awkward situation. You know what I mean? So, he's going back and forth. So, then he's like, "I'm calling the cops, you know? Like, this is ridiculous." They go in their room. I'm in the kids' room. They go in their room, and I hear them rustling and tussling and whatnot. They're entering back and forth. Next thing I know, I walk in the room trying to de-escalate things. She's on the bed with him wrestling for the phone to not call the cops, you know? And I'm like, "You guys need to stop. Like, we we don't need to We don't need to do this. Like, you have guests over. Stop acting like this. You can talk to each other about it. I know things are escalated. Feelings are hurt, but like, we we don't need to do this with the kids upstairs. Like, we just don't need to do this right now, right? So, they separated and whatnot. I She ended up going back to the spare room, and I told, you know, I told Garrett, you know, I was like, "Y'all can deal with this in the morning like when we're gone. No drinking's involved. Y'all can handle y'all's [ __ ] tomorrow, you know what I mean?" So, he ended up calling, and then she's calling her dad on her phone, and it just went from there, and spare room like where we were, you know, she's like, "I want my kid. Like, he's going to take my kid." And I'm like, "I don't know what's going to happen here. You just need to not say anything. Don't escalate the situation. Don't make it worse. Like, you guys be bantering right now. Like, I'm so uncomfortable. I don't know what to do. Like, you know what I mean? So, that's when he called you guys and was waiting, and they, you know, bantered back and forth, but and then here we are. >> Can you tell me more about them wrestling? He's trying to call 911 and the wrestling is going on. >> to call. All I want Cuz she walked down the hallway into the room, and I stayed out of it, and then they were bantering back and forth. Like, she's like, "You don't need to call." Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Next thing I know, I walked in, they were just both on the on laying on the bed, and both of them had their hands on the phones, and he's like, "You need to let go of my phone." Like, nobody was hitting each other or anything, but she was trying to take the phone, you know, trying to Again, alcohol's involved, angry feelings are involved. And I was like, "You guys just need to stop." He grabbed the phone, she ran off. And I was like, "Garrett, can you please just handle this now? Like, I don't want to be involved in this." And then here we are. Yeah. >> I appreciate it. I appreciate you sticking around and talking to us. >> Okay. So, no hitting, punching. >> No, no, no, no, no. >> No MMA fighting over the phone. But they both have hands on the phone. >> Both have hands on the phone. >> And she doesn't want him calling 911. >> Yeah, she's scared, he's angry. There's no what I would consider force of anything. It was just hurt feelings and stressed and working. >> But she's physically stopping him from >> They're both Yeah, yeah. Same same amount of force I would say it was equal across the board. >> Sure. But it's him trying to call and her trying to stop. >> Yeah, they're just, you know, he's like, "Just stop." >> Okay. And then you said that when she came into the room and was crying, did you that she think that they were those the words she used? >> Like, yeah, she's like on the phone. She Like, "What's going on?" And she's like, "I saw left with him like 3 hours ago. We're eating dinner." And he was over saying that you just kissed him. Like, and now this Like, hold on here, and now you have a bigger situation on your hands, and now you've included me and my family and all of us are in your house. Like, this is this isn't what I want to be involved in. You know what I mean? So, you will see that my phone called his. >> Okay. What What is the conversation at dinner? >> It just like backhanded like we didn't get like the full context. You know what I mean? I you know that he's stepped out before in like their marriage. I don't know anything outside of that who it was, when it happened, whatever. So, like he's made comments back and forth to her of like, you know, well, you were with a 16-year-old, you know what I mean? And she's like, it was innocent, like it shouldn't have happened, you know what I mean? But just backhanded comments and we were like, we were all like I'm uncomfortable with like, you know what I mean? Sitting in that scenario like >> Yeah. >> Yeah, so whatever they had going on Yeah, it >> It's been going on all night, but then it escalated to open us. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Yeah, and he had told me and like he's like apparently used my name saying that I texted him or told him that she slept with this kid upstairs in the room. This is a conversation between them when all this we were waiting on you guys to show up. >> He Garrett >> Garrett, yes, sorry. Garrett said, you know, I said, "Tammy told me what happened. She texted me um and let me know that you slept with him." And I was like, "No, I didn't." He's like, "I know, I just used the scenario to get her to talk about it." So, >> What tactic? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Tammy's sworn statement is a major turn She informs that the McKenzie phone number was the phone number called the 16-year-old and explicitly admitted to having did with him just hours prior, contradicting everything McKenzie told the deputy. >> Well, so here's where I'm at. I have your side of the story. I have other people's sides of the story. Okay. They're not quite adding up. >> Mhm. >> So, obviously someone's not not telling the truth. >> Mhm. >> Okay. I would love for you to be able to tell me the truth about what happened if if you know, it's just a simple matter of kissing and you know, infidelity in your relationship, we can get out of your hair and let you guys go to divorce court and that's a civil matter and and not not in our realm, right? So, >> Um as far as um infidelity, like I said, that that has been going on for quite some time on both parts. >> Okay. >> So. >> Okay. >> And that night that um I said I was very intoxicated. Um, like I'm on Lexapro as a prescription and I tend to black out very easily. So, a lot of that night is very, very fuzzy for me. >> Okay. >> I'm going to be honest with you. >> Okay. But you remember texting him? >> I just remember texting him, yes. >> Okay. Did you guys end up meeting up like you were texting about? >> Mhm. >> We ended up meeting up and talking about things. >> Okay. Where did you guys meet up? >> Right down there. >> Okay. >> Like uh >> In like you're standing in the middle of the street or were you like in a car or something? >> Yeah, like out in the middle of the street. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Okay. How did he get here? He He doesn't live Okay, he doesn't live in town, does he? >> No. >> Okay. All right. Well, so here's where I'm at, okay? There's two sides to every story. I've been told by multiple people that you had sexual relationships with someone under the age of 16 that goes to school you work at. Okay. So, right now you're going to be under arrest for sexual misconduct with a minor. Put your hands behind your back. >> Confronted with independent witness testimony, McKenzie's story changes from denial to a fuzzy memory of meeting up with the teen. With probable cause established, officers place her under arrest for sexual misconduct with a minor. With McKenzie in custody, officers head to the station for a formal interview. In part three, she abandons her initial denials and lays out the full truth of what happened that night.
