These are the moments when officers face their last moments, starting with a routine traffic stop, ending in complete chaos. And you are now watching body cam chase files. >> So, you can either step out of the car or I can pull you out of the car. Don't step out. >> On February 8th, 2024, Mville, Tennessee, deputies Greg Maccawan and Shelby Edgars were out on patrol along Severeville Road when they spotted an SUV. Inside the car was 41-year-old Kenneth Wayne Deart. Deputies pulled him over thinking it was going to be just another routine traffic stop. >> So, you can either step out of the car or I can pull you out of the car. >> You can step out the car? >> No, sir. You can you can step out the car. I'm pulling you out of the car. Kenny racist. >> Get out of the car. >> I'm not No, don't don't my car. >> No, you can't do that. Do that. >> You can't do this, man. You can't do this. >> Get your hands off of me, man. >> Please get your hands off of me, please. >> But within seconds, this wasn't going to be routine at all. Despite repeated orders, Kenneth refused to get out of the vehicle. The deputies deployed a taser. Get out of the car. >> But it had no effect. In an instant, everything changed. Kenneth pulled out a gun and opened fire. Deputy Macauan was killed on the spot and Deputy Edgars collapsed to the ground. Badly wounded, Edgars returned fire, but Kenneth sped away into the darkness. Within hours, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation issued a blue alert. For five long days, he was on the run. Then on February 13th, Kenneth was finally found and taken into custody without another shot being fired. What started as a simple traffic stop became one of the most tragic moments in Blount County's recent history. Kenneth Wayne was faced premeditated first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, and 10 more serious charges. And the body cam footage serves as a chilling reminder. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. In the next moment, suspect attacked the officer with a sharp knife before he even had a chance to react. On February 11th, 2024, Los Cusus police in New Mexico got a 911 call about a trespasser near an apartment complex. >> 409, how can I help you? >> Uh, yes, ma'am. I have a concern here. Uh, uh, my husband and I own a business. Okay. >> And at the moment, at the moment, it's vacant. But uh we've been having a lot of trouble with homeless people. In the past they have broken windows and you know I reported and everything but now yesterday my husband um told the guy that he could not stay there you know trying to right there by the door and so he left but we cleaned up syringes you know where he's got >> syringes like he's I don't know what he's doing but anyway and food and all kinds of stuff. So, we cleaned it up and uh we're not there right now, but a friend of ours that just passed by says that he's back. Uh is there any way that I can have one of the officers that may be riding by there uh confront him? >> And it's the same person from yesterday, you believe? >> I believe so. >> Okay. Would you like him officially trespass from your property? >> What do you mean? So they if the officers make contact with him, they can issue him what's called a trespass warning and if he is caught back on the property, he can be arrested. >> Okay. >> Officer Jonah Hernandez responded. At first, nothing seemed unusual. His body cam shows him calmly approaching a man, later identified as Armando Silva, and asking a few simple questions. >> You've been staying here for a while? >> Yeah, this is my place. >> What's up? >> This is my place. >> Is this your place? >> So, you're the one who called? >> You're the one who called? Huh? >> But within seconds, Silva suddenly pulled a knife and attacked. Hernandez went down badly wounded. That's when a passer by Isaia Atoga jumped in. You want to go down to me? He shot Silva to stop the attack, then grabbed the officer's radio, calling desperately for help and trying to keep Hernandez alive. >> Hey. Hey. Stay with me. Stay with me. Stay with me. Hey, hey, sir. Officer. >> Officer Hernandez was rushed to the hospital but didn't survive. Silva also died at the scene. Officer Jonah Hernandez gave his life in the line of duty and his sacrifice will never be forgotten. >> Sheriff's office, drop the gun. >> Send fire. I'm hit. >> On February 10, 2022 at 4:17, Watcom County received a 911 call. >> 911. >> My name is Haley. I live at 3021 Green Valley Drive. My neighbor two houses the southside is out there shooting his 12 gauge just at the neighbors behind us. >> And he's shooting at the neighbors. >> He was shooting into the air, but we live in a very crowded neighborhood. >> One second here. Just stay inside your house. Okay. >> Oh yeah. Nope. I'm in. >> Deputies rushed to the scene thinking they were responding to just another simple call. But the moment they pulled up and realized this wasn't going to be just routine, the suspect, later identified as 70-year-old Joel Young, was outside with a shotgun. Without hesitation, he fired. >> Sheriff's office, drop the gun. >> Shots fired. Shots fired. >> You okay? [Music] >> Send shots fired. >> I'm hit walking. Two deputies were struck in the head by pellets. In seconds, what started as a call for help turned into a life ordeath situation. In the chaos, wounded deputies tried to hold their ground. Despite their injuries, they managed to take cover and call for backup. >> I'm cover. >> SWAT teams were deployed and surrounding the house. Walk to me. Walk to me. Do it now. Do it now. Keep walking on your face. Get on your face. Get on your face. >> Young. >> You're on body cam. Audio and video recording. >> Video recorded. >> Finally, officers managed to take Young into custody. He was charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, one count of first-degree assault, deadly weapon enhancement. Both deputies survived, but the body cam footage is a reminder of how fast a normal shift can flip into sheer chaos.
