These checks look familiar. And where did you cash these checks? >> So, >> did anybody tell you to go there to cash them? >> Yes. >> And who told you to go there? >> Don't worry. >> I'm not really here to ask you about that because I already know. >> Did you have to pay him some of the money? >> Basically, I hate it. When I kept the money for the check, he gave me two from the check and kept for it. >> Okay. for her to say this about me. I'm not >> Why would everybody else say the same thing? >> Because I'm not a liar with her. I'm not going to lie. That's why I had that's why I had to move. I'm going to move in with my girlfriend mother. >> At midday, detectives from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office arrived at the offices of Project Lyft, an organization that helps high school students develop job skills and earn income through workforce programs. But that day, investigators were looking into something far more serious. Authorities suspected that several teenagers had become involved in an alleged check fraud scheme to cash counterfeit checks for quick money. >> So, you don't know where uh Queso lives? >> No. >> Your son. And what's his nickname? >> Queso. >> You only did two checks, right? And how much money did you give him? >> I only gave him half what I gave him. He only gave me $150. >> What I'm saying is this not the first time my mother don't try to piss on me. What did I say? Well, she got to go over stuff like that. >> As detectives dug deeper, the case raised even bigger questions about who might have been behind the operation. So, how did it all begin? Stay with us as we uncover the truth. >> Good hear about all these chicks. >> So, you know, all these kids, so not all those kids belong to us. um actually went down to the store last week. He is currently our only active participant. However, he has not shown up since the 19th. >> Do you know when he tried to catch us? >> Did they call you? >> They call They did not call us when this happened. Um I'm not sure exactly. Let me see if it's uh What's your date of birth? >> My date of birth is 93. Okay. And you run this? Is this your business? >> It's not my business. I am the site director. >> Okay. So, you're employed by whoever runs it. >> Yes. >> Okay. Our uh our CEO, his name is Bob Zakio. Let me see. I don't think I have one for this one. Yeah, this is the only one he tried to do. And they asked him for his supervisor's phone number and he ran. >> Mhm. >> Okay. So, and they can't tell me when he did it, so I can't >> Yeah, cuz they didn't put it in their system. >> Um, so you know, Amante Tracy, >> he was a former participant. >> Okay. And it ended prior to December. >> Yeah. Oh, way before then. His brother is actually the current participant here. >> Okay. So, and they can't tell me about this check, which I don't know why. So, Bonsie Moore, you don't know who that is. >> Never been here. >> No. >> And Williams, she has been here before. However, she was never eligible for a check. >> Okay. >> Cuz she was not here long enough. >> Jakari Roads. So, I do not know him. However, I got a call from a check cashing store in Naples about another check that he was trying to cash. I told them that I could not verify that. >> Okay. And MC. >> No. >> Christian Williams. >> So, he was at one point trying to get into our program and he has some sort of association with Anaria Williams. >> Okay. So, he you've seen them together. Um, so with him trying to come into our program, they have to do a referral. The addresses are the same. >> Oh, so according to his application, which could be just made up. >> It could be. Yeah. But he was trying to come here at one point in time. However, we not never got him in. >> Did I ask you about Quantry Tracy? >> Quantry Tracy is the mother of Ae Tracy and the mother of one of the participants we currently have here. >> So, she would not be eligible cuz she's an older adult. She um did at one point, I believe, if I'm not mistaken, take our strong families program way back when. However, we do not provide them with checks. >> Not Not parents? >> No. >> No, they get gift cards. >> Okay. And so, she did two checks. >> Mhm. >> Okay. So, that is helpful. And you guys did not write any of these checks cuz they don't even look like your checks. >> No, they do not. >> Yeah. are this is obviously no these are the fraudulent ones >> and if you guys are the victim in this case >> these are the legit ones. >> If you guys end up being the victim in the case would you guys like to prosecute? >> Um I would actually have to contact my uh let me contact her now so she can give you the answer. >> I don't think you're going to be the victim, >> right? No. Uh our bank has already sent those back so we've already reported those as fraud. Okay. >> So, see if I can get her on the phone. >> If not, you could just call me back. >> Okay. >> Hey, um the detective is here about the checks. >> Of course, I left. >> Yeah, you're [clears throat] on speaker, so just be not be mindful. [laughter] So, >> I know you're not supposed to put me on speaker. >> I know. That's why I gave you the warning. Um, so you know, she was just asking about the people who um whose names were on the checks and I was confirming whether or not, you know, they were legitimate to our program. >> Okay. >> And um she asked if we happened to be the victim in this case, would we want to pursue um prosecution? >> Hold on. Let me actually let me walk over to Nancy who's our finance. You're already back at the bank building. >> Yeah, I paid my ticket at the port house. I would be the only one there. >> Oh, wow. Go you. Making progress. >> I know. I only got stuff on this one tractor. >> Oh, lucky lucky. >> I'll hold on real quick. >> Okay. >> What's your phone number here? >> Um 56. >> And so you live in another county? >> I live in Clo. >> Close. >> Yeah. >> Mhm. >> All right. I'll look you up. >> Chelsea. >> Yes. >> Okay. I got the right. uh ask your question again. >> Um so I'm here with the detective and they would like to know if we became a victim um for these bad checks if we would like to pursue prosecution. >> So can the detective hear me? >> Yes. Yes. >> Okay, perfect. So I just want to explain because of the type of bank account we have and we have a lot of fraud protection associated with it. We were able to decline [clears throat] the processing of those checks and report them as fraudulent. So we are not we've had no damages whatsoever because those funds did not come out of our account that we have to stop them. >> Right. I'm saying if there if it you become a victim in this case, would you be willing to prosecute? Because I'm not sure where this is going. This is my first day looking into all this. >> Sure. >> Yeah. >> Okay. That's what I wanted to know. >> Okay. >> And I'll let you know if I find any evidence of that. >> Okay. >> Thank you, Nancy. >> Thank you. All right. Chelsea, do you still need me or you want to just give me an update after? >> Yeah, I can just give you an update. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Bye. >> Bye. >> Okay. So, who was that on the phone that made the decision? >> Um, that was Nancy. She is our chief financial officer. >> Do you know her last name? >> I'm Stern S. >> Do you know like approximate age? >> Uh, no. >> 50. >> Do you know where she lives? >> Palm City. home city. >> Yeah. >> What do the kids do here for money? >> Um so they do have to earn it and it is based on their attendance, behavior and sobriety. Um they do have to participate in vocational trade training, job skills, um life skills. >> So just taking classes. >> Yeah. And then some we do have a high school diploma program here too. So if they haven't gotten their high school diploma if they're eligible to get it, they can. >> All right. So you raise your right hand. I swear everything you told me is the truth. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. I left you my card with my uh cell phone number and >> and I'll give you mine just in case. It also has an email address on it. >> Okay. >> It has my old job title, but I I promise I'm the site director now. >> You promoted? >> Yes. >> Congratulations. >> Thank you so much. Thank you for coming by. I appreciate it. All right. Let me know if we can be of any more assistance and stay safe. All right. better. >> Uhhuh. >> All right. >> It's not bad. >> Thank you. >> You're welcome. >> We're here to talk to you about a case that I'm working. I was waiting for some print hits to come back. >> Um I know it's not just you and it's a whole big group of people. So, I'm coming to ask you what you know to see if you'll tell me the truth. I can tell you you're not going to jail today. >> I'm just here to talk to you. >> Mhm. >> Okay. So, do you remember cashing checks at the check cashing store over by Bank of Belgrade in the southeast section? >> You talking about >> that's Main Street? >> Yeah, Main Street on the left. If you go past Main Street on MLK >> Yeah. >> You remember that? >> Okay. Um, are these the checks you cashed? They're written though. Yeah, >> I lost my um identification on the bus and I called the police him and I gave him got a report from the man and I told them that it had my ID and everything in it and my son's on >> Well, the problem is that this print was placed on there on video. >> Mhm. >> By the person who cashed it. >> And I have a >> That is your print on there. >> Talking about the checks. >> Yeah, the check. They placed that print when they got to the store while they were cashing the check. >> Okay. >> So, I know it's you was in there cashing the check. >> Yeah, I remember going there. >> Okay. Where did you get these checks? >> Don't shove your post down until the tail clears. >> Okay. This is what I'm talking about. >> I'm not here. >> Decision I made and I did it. >> Okay. But you don't know who gave them to you? Um, it was just one friend came to me and asked me that I want to cash a check. I said, "Yep." And that's the checks they gave me. >> Is that Is there a friend's name Vonie Moore? >> Bonsie Moore? >> No. >> Christian Williams. >> I just know nicknames. I don't know real names. >> Well, what's his nickname? >> Um, the nickname I was Aiden. The nickname Anna got wasing LJ Car. It was a bunch of us. >> A bunch of us. >> Yeah. >> So, well, and it was your son. >> Which one? >> Which son do I have here? >> Amante. >> Mhm. >> So, I don't have Amante's prints, but these prints are identifiable. >> Okay. Okay. So, I'm asking you if you will bring him to the sheriff's office next week. >> Uhhuh. >> So, we can take his prince and compare. Okay. >> If you're willing to do that. >> Okay. >> I don't have to get a search warrant and take him into custody and take him there. Be less dramatic. >> Was he with you when you all had the check? >> No, we ain't know. I was going there no same time. >> Y he went on a different day. >> Yeah. >> But he had a check also. >> Yeah. >> How many checks did you guys have? >> I don't even know about the ones I did. I don't even know how many he did. >> Uh, he did three chucks. >> He didn't He didn't give you know about the ones I did. >> You just did the two. >> Mhm. >> Okay. And you don't you don't know the name of the guy who gave them to you? >> Just like I said, it was just friends and they asked me, "Did I want to do it? It was a dumb decision that we both did it." >> Okay. So, did you ask your son if he wanted to do it or did this person ask your son? >> We all know when we all be in the group together. >> That's my son right here. I have no problem with bringing home. >> This is Amante. >> Come on. >> Looks like everyone's loaded up. We should be leaving here. >> Yeah, he's an adult now. He's a juvenile. He's 17. So, will you allow us to talk to him? >> You can talk to me right now. >> Okay. So, yeah. I'm here about the three checks that you cashed. >> Do you know the name of the guy who gave you guys the checks? [snorts] >> No, I didn't know his name. You didn't know his name? >> Who asked you to do the checks if you wanted to? >> I don't know his name. >> You don't know his name? Okay. But somebody asked you. >> Yeah. >> Listen, we're not trying to get you guys. We're not trying to get you guys >> whenever you guys they come bring you those checks like that. They put your prints on whatever. It's just a matter of time before we find out. You know what I'm saying? >> Ain't too much going to do this right here. Okay. >> No. Your mom said she'd bring you down to the sheriff's office next week so we can take your prints to compare. >> Did you put your prints on these checks? >> I had to. >> You had to? So, these are your prints? >> You use your school ID? Um, >> no. >> What ID did you use? Um, I don't know what ID I use cuz I ain't use my ID. >> Okay. Cuz if you don't have ID, they take your school ID usually at the store. >> That's the thing. When we go one time, when we went one time to that store and used our ID, we ain't have to use our ID no more. >> Yeah. Because they pull it up in the system. You're in their computer. >> So, it probably was your school ID that you used the first time you went there. >> So, here's the deal, guys. You know, I get it. We all get, you know, times are hard on everybody. >> Times are hard. We're not looking down on you guys or whatever. We know you guys saw this as an opportunity >> to make um easy money. >> Like I said, >> but what they don't tell you is the end result of this here. Sometime people get away with it, sometime they don't. They don't get away with it, then people like us come. >> Okay. Now, the good part about this right here, it's probably not too much going to come out of this here. Especially for you being a juvenile, okay? But >> just use it as a learning experience or whatever, but what she's going to do is she's bless you. She's the lead in this investigation. We're not taking anybody to jail. >> Okay? >> I'm going to talk to everybody. I'm going to gather all my facts. I'm going to file the case with the state attorney's office and let them make the decision if they want to prosecute. And also too, the biggest thing what we trying to do is >> we just got to go to court about we just got to go to court. >> No, the biggest thing what we want to try to do guys is we want to try to find out the person that's >> like I said we we from we not from up here. We from Miami. So therefore the people that we know from up here we only be basically knowing >> nicknames and stuff like that. So it was just a little quick opportunity to do something. I wasn't working at the time but now I'm working. So >> it is you working at >> Duncan. Okay. All right. She going to leave a card with you. >> Yeah. If you run into that person, you remember the nickname, anything, just give me a call. >> And she going to set it up with you guys or whatever. It's going to be quick. Okay. We're going to have you to come down, whatever. Basically, they're just going to get your fingerprints. She's going to send it over to the uh print unit and they're just going to We already know it's you on the checks or whatever. We already know that, but we just like to compare or whatever just to be sure. Okay. >> So, just remember, you're about to turn 18. >> Yeah. you will be held a little bit more responsible for stuff and you don't don't do this again because this could hurt your future. >> So you never been arrested before, right? >> What's your name? >> Like Amante. >> That's just like it wasn't even detained from one to deescalate the situation, >> right? Listen, you're 17 now. You're about how many months away from being 18? >> Next year. February. >> Next year. Okay, bro. You already you're close to making. Okay. And what that means is that from the rest of your life, when you turn 18, everything you do, >> it's going to be on you and it's going to follow you. Okay? Right now, when you turn 18, you ain't got no record you can go in and put in for any job you want. None of that stuff is going to show up. Okay? Once you hit that 18 mark, little stuff like this right here, dude, it just kills you. Cuz when you get 23 or whatever, you go out to try to find a legitimate job or whatever, you can't get a job because they see, hey, oh, this dude here, he was cashing bad checks. You know, you got to be smart. You got to use your head. It ain't worth it in the long run. >> No. In the long run, you're going to be better off just >> Yeah. Now, you get you a $70,000 job, something like that there. You don't need to do stuff like this, but you can't land that job cuz little stuff like this over here is what you get. Okay. All right. Mary, you got anything else? So, would I call this number next week? >> Yeah, I'll um let me confirm your phone number. >> Yeah, if I don't call you, you call me. We'll work try to work it around your schedule. I don't want to mess up your job or anything. And we'll try to work it around school cuz if he's going to matter of fact, Monday, I don't have to be to work until 11:00 p.m. I could come Monday. >> Okay. I Yeah, I'm waiting for Leighton Prince to call me back cuz they have to take it and I think it's going to have to be in West Palm. Oh, >> you got a car. >> Okay, >> that's good for me to know because see what I what I can make. >> We on bus. >> We may see we may see if we can um I don't know about maybe getting a print kit or just maybe just taking them. Whatever. We'll figure it out. >> Yeah. I mean, I used to work in the jail. I know how to take fingerprints. [laughter] >> Okay. >> Okay. All right. We appreciate you. No problem. >> All right. Thank you. >> Make this a lot easier. All right. >> Yeah. Make it easier on yourself, too. >> Okay. All right. Thank you. >> Welcome. >> All right. We're just here to talk to you. We're not going to try to take you to jail or anything. But um you remember cashing that check? Do you remember who gave it to you? Who gave you that check? Huh? >> A boy. >> Do you know his name? >> No, I just know his nickname. >> Do you know where he lives? >> He don't stay on. >> He don't stay in the area. >> Do you know what he drives? >> No. So, that would that is your fingerprint on there cuz I sent it to Leight and Prince and I got a report back. So, you don't have a uh a valid ID card or driver's license? >> I have a hard >> You do? But it's Yeah. I couldn't find a picture on your ID. I didn't even print it cuz there was no picture. So, what did he tell you about this check? >> He just said, "You want some money?" Did he take a cut of it? What? What happened? >> Cuz I was working with Project. >> You were working there? >> So, you're saying Project Lift gave you the check? >> No, he was we both worked. >> Oh, you both worked there? Okay. But this is not a check that Project Lift gave you. >> Did you know it was bad check? >> No, >> I only had it because I was doing it. I guess I worked in >> because you're what? >> I stopped working. >> Okay. When did you stop working there? >> Last year. >> Last year in June. >> I think they at the end. >> Yeah. >> So you were working there in December. No, November. November. >> I think it was November. November, Decemberish. >> Okay. So, this wouldn't have been a check from work in there cuz this is a end of December check. >> Yeah. She said I would get a check by claiming >> I worked that long, but I didn't know if I had stopped. >> Okay. Cuz >> So, what you're saying is if you had worked that long, this check would have been written to you. But you didn't. So, this check was given to you by somebody else >> who worked there. >> Who worked there? But it's not a valid check. >> I mean, it is if you work there, but >> but you weren't working there in December to receive this check. >> Working in December, >> but this is not a payroll from when you worked there. >> Yes. Yeah. You have to wait five weeks to get your check when you work at um Project. We start working in November, which means by the end of Christmas, I already would have done. >> Yeah. >> Okay. You know, they've already told me when you worked there, what checks you got, and so I already know. So, this the check was not given to you by Project Lip. This is a fictitious check. >> Um, the boy the nickn >> What's his name? >> I don't know. >> You don't know his nickname? >> He's the red. He's chubby and red. Chubby and red. >> Does that look like him? >> I don't think that. But does that look like him? >> I like him. >> He's back down, but that's not his name. >> And you said his name nickname is Kase. >> Queso. >> Queso. >> How old is he? I don't know. Is he an adult? Is he a child? >> He's an adult. >> So, what what is this check for then? For working? You're not sure? Well, what did they what did they pay you to do? You said you worked at Project Lift. What did they pay you to do? >> I was just washing stuff around that dress. Okay. Um, when are you off probation? >> Last time. I think >> Have you done them? >> So you whenever you done do them, you can hand them in and you're okay. I don't think you're telling me the truth and I think it's going to hurt you. I think telling me the truth would explain what's going on here because I don't think you're the mastermind. I don't think you're the ones. No, you told me somebody with a name. And >> I don't know him. >> So why would you take a check from him if you didn't know him? >> Because that the other person I know >> and you said his name is Queso. >> Okay. >> All right. So you understand that we feel this what we have >> and basically everybody looks at that we get it you know everybody get on the title what I've seen and opportunities present themselves and people go ahead you do it you know sometime you get away with it other times you don't when we don't keep people like us coming. Okay. So the bottom line never gave you any chance. Okay. How old are we? >> This right here is just going to probably serve us like less than two whatever cuz like I said those checks almost cash the bad. I know but the boy I'm telling y the boy I don't know but I know that y both lip and y think I don't that picture that y have >> but what >> no those are just other she's not going to take the >> pause now to do it she's not I'll be the same person that's take this check presenting the people that know the woman you know what I'm saying stop them from making them maintain. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. You know, but they don't tell you guys that that you know it's going to be hard for I'm not going to lie. Unless we can ID this person the one that actually did you guys say >> they actually you did you did go there and do the program >> but you weren't there long enough to receive a check that you never received a check from them. >> I did. I did. So, but that's the statement I got from Project Lyft is that you did go there, but you didn't stay there and do the program long enough to be eligible for a check. >> No, no, you have to be in the program five weeks and do all the assignments, >> but it's not actually working there. It's doing assignments to learn about how to live your life as an adult. Yeah, but like I was saying, what's the bad part about it being when you guys consider and they don't care? You guys going to be how this play out with you on your probation? Not. Okay. Um I don't know. That's left up to state attorney to decide you've been on probation and then now you get another felony charge on you here. That's not going to work. You know that's just being honest, you know. So what you have to think about that's your kid that you think about your kid. Okay? Because look we saying to you that basically we're just like this right here. Look at the check catch. You knew the check is falling. You need the money whatever that goes a long way to sitting down saying that listen. Oh well I didn't know what happened. This guy wrote the check. I wrote it. I thought this right here was a check for whatever blah blah blah. >> Well, it wasn't for me though. Like I get the money. >> You didn't get the money? >> No. >> What happened to the money? >> All of it? >> No, not all. He only gave us >> gave you $100. And you don't know who this is? >> I told you I don't We don't have a picture of him so I can't show you. >> Okay. >> But his name is >> And he worked there. >> What case you talking about, right? >> Yeah. I got him. What? Okay. So, we went live and we talked about um I need to get a check. >> Girl, let me get this. Come on, brother. >> Oh, I ain't got his >> You got it. >> Stay out here, but he don't. But that's his mom. I don't know if he's there cuz he go back. >> He lives in which apartment? >> The blue The blue building in front of the park. >> The blue building in front of the park. >> Yeah. But it'll be like our building on this side on this. >> You know where they're talking about? What park? >> It's this. It's on this side. >> On this road here. >> Yeah. But in this place, but um know where the park is. Right now. >> Yeah. >> And you going to turn this way and it's two buildings. But this building would be this building if you look. >> Okay. But you don't know which >> upstairs >> on the end like this. But upstairs. Do you know which one upstairs? I think it's one of those. >> I'm just ask I'm not sure. I'm not sure. >> Did he cash any? No. >> I'm not. >> Did he cash any check? >> No. >> Yeah, >> he didn't cash no check. >> So he got everybody else cashing the check. >> Is he looking up the guys? >> He probably is. >> What? Do you know how to spell queso? >> That's the only known government. >> He gave you 100. How much did he do? the rest of the however much it was. >> So basically, you know, it wasn't a check for where you put that at if you keep it happen, right? >> Cuz we know money or whatever, but long run it, you know, get off just something. >> Dive Hansen. >> Um, yeah. I finally saw where the they're the two laten prints were of no value. But I I have a juvenile I want to bring. His mom gave me permission to bring him in >> um to get his prints taken. Do I bring him to you? >> It'll be next It'll be next week, not today. >> Okay. I got >> They don't tell you guys they don't especially. >> No, I'm going to leave my card so that they can uh call me. If you find a picture of Case, you can just text it to me. >> So, she's not she get over there, whatever. >> I thought it was still there. >> Yeah. still have to put on fire. Let all the deadlines know. It's much easier. Okay. She'll do your call or whatever whenever >> Well, we're in Belg. >> And she has no car. >> They don't do prints in uh Royal Palms or Belglade anymore. >> Yeah. But he ran down from a little All right. So, you guys got my number. Call me if you get find him on Instagram or or Facebook. >> You got a call. >> Yeah, I just gave her. >> Hello. >> Hey. Uh, we're looking for Bonsie. >> He lives next door, right? >> No. You know who Bonsie is? your um >> your name is >> he know? >> Yeah. Okay. I thought I recognized you. >> So you don't know who Baltimore is? >> I know who he is, but he don't I don't know who he said. >> You okay? We were told he stayed right here with his grandmother. >> No, that's my god fans. They Mexican. >> They're Mexican. >> Yeah, that's all. I think she had work there. The only one there is. >> Okay. All right. Thank you. All right. Well, I need to talk to him for that. Same reason I talked to you. >> I need him to tell me the truth cuz I mean, we got his fingerprints. We know it's him, but I need him to tell me the truth like like you did. >> So, um, got warrants. So, we need him picked up so we talk to him cuz he's hiding. I'm going see if I can get him a call. I'll tell my other uncle to get him a call cuz I remember y'all knocked on the door and y somebody thought it was my uncle, but that's just nothing. >> Oh, okay. Yeah, just have him call me. >> He's got traffic number. >> Yeah, he's got traffic warrants. It's not a big deal. I just need to talk to him about the check. I just need the truth. That's that's all. >> Okay. Okay. >> All right. Thank you. You're welcome. How you doing? >> Good. Can I speak to Christian? >> That's not here. >> He's not here, >> but he lives here. >> Are you related to Anora? >> Yes, that's my niece. >> That's your niece. Okay. >> She stay here. >> Okay. But Christian also stays here. >> He stay with his mom. >> I just went to his mom's house. They said that he's staying here. >> Yeah, but he he moved back over there. So, um, back in December and January, um, we got, uh, we got a call in January that there was a bunch of checks cashed on project lift at the convenience store, Circle A, and your name was on one of the checks and your fingerprint came back showing that it was you who did cash the check cuz the print was placed on it at the time. So, I'm not really here to ask you about that because I already know. And what I'm going to ask you about is who gave you the check? Basically, I was trying to well, it was from Keso basically. I was trying to make some some quick money basically and it was like um and that's what he had choice basically. Did he >> he gave it to us and he said that we were supposed to [ __ ] out when he gave it to me? >> Okay. So, [clears throat] did you know he had checks and you went to him or >> first? I didn't know if it was even checks from the get go. >> Okay. So, you he's just a friend of yours or somebody >> now you just had >> I just know of him. >> Did he contact you? No, cuz I know how. >> No, but I mean Yeah, because I'm pretty sure he probably would have, but I don't know. Like he probably don't even know my name. >> How did it come to light that you got a check from him? How did you meet him? How did you get the check from him? >> Basically, uh, he was like, um, we want to make some money or something like that. >> Were you hanging out with him at that time? >> Mm. [clears throat] >> Were you just in an area he was? >> I was. where that was I was walking by the park in the village and just like a court like they call them courts like the different sections and he was like on that section over there and I see my uncle over there and then he went back and >> so you went to your uncle's house where a nar was no my uncle was over there not that uncle um my other >> is it the same projects in there? >> Yeah, the same um what's your name? >> Same development. >> Yeah. >> So you were walking by and he was there. M trying to see if we wanted to make some money basically. And then at first I was skeptical and then I was like yeah cuz bro then after um like at the end like when we get to the store whatever the ch and I was like this check got my name on it and then it said project lift and then he told me project lift was a big organization and then he told me to go catch you then. >> Okay. So, he had your name already typed on it. >> Yeah. >> How'd he get your name? >> That's what I don't know. >> Okay. So, did you have to pay him some of the money? >> Basically, we I only got 100. >> You got $100? >> That's it. >> And he got the rest >> basically. >> And Queso is um You know him? Do you know who his brother is? >> Do you know where he lives? It's good dating. That's like that's how like >> I mean I know I know who Queso is. >> Yeah, I'm pretty sure everybody knows but I really don't know him. So it's like >> I just heard of a a name called like Amari. >> Amate >> something with like a M like um something. >> That that's his brother. >> So let me ask you something. You said we Who were you with? >> Um I was with my best Anaria. >> Yes. >> Okay. And she's already told us everything. Really? >> Have you talked to Anaria? >> No. Yeah. After I came from school and I heard that she was born and then I didn't see her or get to talk to her. So I don't I don't know where she at. >> So you guys didn't talk about the check after you cashed it? >> Um like you talking right afterwards? >> Yeah. Like when you cashed the check, did you talk about the check? Um was like um that we only got 100 and we said something ain't right and we was like yeah something's not right basically and for us to get $100 that's it and we going to take the rest but we really didn't have conversations about it like >> no you just kind of forgot about it. It was like a a just I don't know. I can't even think of it. Was like a quick way to get money basically. And then >> Did you know that it wasn't right? >> At first I did and I was scared like I thought but once I seen that check and I see my name on it, that's what I knew. I was like and then it was like going and I know he's like I know he not going to check it out or something like that. like something like like he thought that I was gonna be too scared to go >> in there. Yeah. Like like like he thought that I was gonna mess up his plan or something and it was like it's just weird. >> So you don't know where uh Queso lives? >> No. >> Okay. Cuz if I would if I did, I would tell you cuz now that I would tell you but I really don't know cuz I'm told you like that when that happened that was like my first time seeing him ordering his name. So it's like he's like what's it called? Anonymous basically to me cuz I don't really know that. >> Right. Just >> I just seen him once and never seen him again. >> Oh, you haven't? Okay. >> Cuz you live over on 10th. You don't live there in the project there? No, no. Okay. Is there anything else you want to tell me? >> I think that's too much. >> Is there anything I' I forgot to ask you? Maybe. >> I think that's it. >> Are you sorry you did it now? >> Of course. >> Were you sorry like almost immediately? >> Yeah. And if you had to pay back the money, would you pay back the money? >> Of course. >> Okay. All right. Was interviews concluded? The time is 10:19. Wait right here. I'm just going to go turn off the um machine. Be right back. Okay. [clears throat] >> So, you're on work today? Hey, boy. Go back. It's Monday. Okay. So, [snorts] all right. It's another reason why I asked you what you were doing today. If you're a working, I would have tried to work around them. So, all right. Since you are in custody, I'm going to read you your rights. Okay. You can generally read, write, and understand English. Correct. >> Correct. >> Okay. Uh, for the record, I'm advising you that I'm a duly sworn deputy sheriff for the Palm Beach for the county of Palm Beach in the state of Florida. Do you understand? Yes. In compliance with Florida State Statute 117.10, law enforcement officers are notaries of the public for the purpose of notorizing, certifying, or attesting to documents in connection with the performance of official duties. You are also advised that persons making false statements under oath before such an officer shall be guilty of perjury and subject to penalties under Florida State Statute 837. Do you understand? If Okay. At this time, I'm going to swear you in. Can you please raise your right hand? Do you solemnly swear or affirm that the statement you give in this case shall be the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. So, help you got. Okay. Since you are in custody, like I said, I was going to read you your rights. Um, I am required to warn you before you make any statement that you have the following constitutional rights. You have the right to remain silent and not to answer any questions. Do you understand? >> Yes. >> Yep. Any statement you make must be freely and voluntarily given. Do you understand? >> Yes. >> You have the right to the presence and representation of a lawyer of your choice before you make any statement and during any questioning. Do you understand? >> Yes. >> If you cannot afford a lawyer, you're entitled to the presence and representation of a court-appointed lawyer before you make any statement and during any questioning. Do you understand? >> Yes. If at any time during the interview you do not wish to answer any questions, you are privileged to remain silent. Do you understand? >> Yes. >> I can make no threats or promises to induce you to make a statement. This must be made of your own free will. Do you understand? >> Yes. >> Any statement can be and will be used against you in a court of law. Do you understand? >> Yes. >> Okay. Do you understand those rights which I have read to you? >> Yes. >> With those rights in mind, are you choosing to speak to me? >> Yes. Okay. After we spoke to you, we've spoken to some of the other suspects and they have told us where they got the checks. >> Mhm. >> So, I know this is hard for you cuz I know who it is that gave you guys the checks and I wanted to give you the opportunity. I know you don't want to say this, but just to tell us where cuz it it'll be better for you if you just tell me the truth. >> I ain't going home. I know you're not going home, but it will be better for you cuz I can tell the state attorney. Yeah, I talked to mom and mom did admit who gave us the checks and she's she's upset about it. But she she didn't want to give them up, but everybody else told us where the checks came from. So, I want to give you the opportunity that you can be just fully upfront with the state in this case because he did call me this morning about the girl I arrested yesterday and I told him she's very cooperative. You know, they do call us and get ask us were you truthful? How do we feel about it? And I would feel much better. I know you don't want to give up your son but >> I know. So, you want to tell me the name of the guy that gave you the check? >> Marian Tracy. >> Jamarian Tracy. Your son. And what's his nickname? >> Okay. And I totally understand why you didn't want to give him up even though he got you in trouble. Did he give you all the money for the checks or did he take a cut? >> You only did two checks, right? And how much money did you give him? I only gave him half what I gave him. He only gave me $150 off the check. >> He only gave you 100 of both checks. >> $150 off the checks. >> Each check. >> Both. Whenever he had money, he help me and give me money. >> He's been giving you money helping you out. >> Okay. Well, you know, when it's already been identified, there's no reason to carry on the farce. You know what I mean? I'm sorry. Was that your son downstairs that dropped you off? >> That's your who? >> My girlfriend. >> That was your girlfriend? >> Like she's not my girlfriend girlfriend like intimate girlfriend. She's just a friend. >> Yeah, I'm not going to judge Ellie. That is fine. This is your son that gave you the check for Maria. [snorts] You need a minute here. [laughter] >> He lives with you, right? >> He was arrested for attacking me. When was that? >> Like two weeks ago. >> Does Does he he live with you now? >> He was there when I had put him out. >> Did he have a printer at your house? Do you know where he was printing the checks? Not I I can honestly say I don't know. Do you know who he hangs out with? He false arrest. So I don't know none of his friends and stuff and I don't allow him to come over there cuz he can't hang with felons and he ain't supposed to be there. So his friends don't come there. You always had a tough relationship with him. You have you always been a single mom? [snorts] >> Mommy. >> So he's at on house arrest at someone else's house. He incarcerated. He's in jail right now for hitting you. What happened? Something with him and a Monte about a phone bill and a cash app something. And he wanted to sell Monte stuff. And I told him no and he just lost it. >> Okay. Well, Miss Tracy, >> I I thank you for being honest. I mean, it I didn't really give you much of a choice cuz we already knew what was going on, but I do appreciate it. I mean, you could have just said I'm not talking, but >> I get called on Monte. So, I can tell him to be honest. Actually, I'm gonna have Amante come in and I'm going to read him his rights because you're his mom. You're allowed to be present. >> Okay. >> Baby, bro, >> I I don't want him on him down the same path as his brother. And I think with your support, telling him to tell the truth. [sighs and gasps] >> All right. You're going to be okay. All right. You swear everything you told me is the truth. >> Okay. I'm going to end the interview. Time is 10:42. Uh I'm going to keep the cameras going and bring your son in. Okay. >> So, put your hands on them. Just yell them right here. Lord Jesus. See? All right. Amante, I talked to your mom. Obviously, she's upset and your mom uh is allowing me to talk to you cuz you're juvenile. I need your mom's permission. So, since you're in custody, I mean, nobody's put handcuffs on you yet, but you're in custody. >> I'm going to read your rights. >> Okay. Can you tell me in your own words what that means? >> Basically, if I want to talk, I don't want to talk. Oh, >> right. Any statement you make must be freely and voluntarily given. Um, can you tell me in your own words what you think that means? So, basically, I can't force you to say anything. I can't tell you these are the facts. You need to give them back to me because this is the truth as I know it. >> You have to be able to just tell me freely what you want to tell me. >> Even the facts. If the facts are are what you remember, that's what you remember. It's fine. You have the right to the presence of a lawyer of your choice before you make any statement during any questioning. If you don't confess to this crime, I can't make any threats. I can't make any promises." I can't say, "If you confess to it, I'm going to take you to Burger King. I can't bribe you. Any statement can be used against you in a court of law." Can you tell me what that means? >> Whatever I say, it's going to be used in court. >> Right. Okay. Do you understand your rights that I've read to you? >> Yes. And with those rights in mind, are you choosing to speak to me? >> If I didn't know everything, they know my everything. So, you can't tell them nothing. They already know. So, the reason I had you guys come in here so I could talk to you is cuz we've spoken to other people that have cashed checks >> and they've all named the same person and we know who it is and we want you well I want you to be able to go to court with the state attorney knowing that you told the whole truth like a suspect. That's all. >> So, can you tell me who gave you the checks? My brother. >> And what's your brother's name? >> I already know. You tell yourself it. >> I know. This is why your mom's crying cuz she she she had to tell the truth cuz we already know. >> What's your brother's name? >> Shamari. >> Is this a picture of Shamari? Yeah. Are >> are you involved in the domestic um battery case where Jamari had hit your mom? >> Oh, that's >> Was he trying to sell your stuff? >> No. >> Yeah. And you didn't want him to sell your stuff, right? No. Okay. So, when he gave you the checks, was it three different days? >> I'm being real. >> You don't remember? He just be having them. He come whenever he he leave the house. Whenever they open up his van and he leave the house, he come back with him. >> No, but when he gave you the check, was it three different times, three different days? Cuz you you cashed three checks. >> Oh, yeah. >> So, did he take you to the store? >> Yes. And you already had an account there to cash checks? >> Yeah, cuz I could default. >> Okay. So, how much money did Did you keep from each check? >> 100, I think. Yeah, around that >> around 150 each check. And he kept the rest of the money. >> Around 100. >> Around 100. >> Okay. All right. Are are you sorry about all this now? >> Yeah. >> And if you had to pay back the victim, would you pay back the victim? >> Yes, I will. >> Okay. And have you ever worked? >> No. >> No. So maybe um might be a good idea to get a job. >> Yeah. >> I have less time to get caught up in stuff like this. So your brother's incarcerated right now. >> Mhm. >> Cuz he's Do you know if he's in the detention here? He is. Okay. All right. You raise your right hand, please. You swear everything you told me is the truth. >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right. So you ready to go? What was his charges >> of his charges? He's got he did three checks. So, your charge is the um depositing with intented defraud and petty theft. He's got three counts of the cashing because he did three tax and his amount is over 750. So, it's grand theft. So, he's going to go to the juvenile assessment center. Um, you're going to go to the main jail here and uh I'll talk to the state attorney today to let them know your situation, what's going on, and then I'm hoping tomorrow that you can get out and you can go get your baby. Okay. >> So, when I get where he got to go to the >> He's got to go to the juvenile assessment center and do you know where your father is? >> Yes, he's at work. >> He's at work? >> Yeah. He could come get you. >> Where that's located >> in West Mom. I don't know the address. >> No, it's off of Belvadier. >> I have your certificate. Your ticket. You just got to be cool with it. That's the only way you talk to. >> Okay. She got the car. >> That's what I'm saying. Let me talk to him. >> Nobody says he can't drive. That's why I said talk to her. >> Okay. All right. Quant. Thank you. And hopefully I will never see you again. Stay out of trouble. Get a job. And don't mess with this stuff like your brother. Cuz your brother's just pulling you down right now. It's a good thing you're a kid. Cuz you do this as an adult. It's a different situation. You guys want to wait right here. George, you know, >> they'll be able to get you tonight. They'll be able to pick him up. He'll be able to get him tonight. I don't know how that works. I try never to arrest juveniles, but I have to in this one. Um, come on out. Um, hold on a second. Let me get somebody. Just come with me. Both. This is a case number 24. Oh, yeah. 24022 of Detective Hansen Florency. ID 6. This is Detective Bowen's ID 7165. Yes. >> And we are at the Palm Beach County Jail with Jamari and Tracy. Now, we explained that we just want to talk to you. We've got some questions. I mean, we already know pretty much what's going on, but um before we talk to you, because you are in custody, we are going to read you your rights. Okay. Okay. I'm required to warn you before you make any statement that you have the following constit rights. You have the right to remain silent and not to answer any questions. Do you understand that? >> No. >> Okay. Any statement you make must be freely and voluntarily given. Do you understand? >> You have the right to the presence and representation of a lawyer of your choice before you make any statement and during any questioning. Do you understand? Yes. If you cannot afford a lawyer, you're entitled to the presence and representation of a courtappointed lawyer before you make any statement and during any questioning. Do you understand? [clears throat] >> If at any time during the interview you do not wish to answer any qu questions, you privilege to remain silent. Do you understand? >> I can make no friends or promises to make to induce you to make a statement. This must be made of your own free will. Do you understand? >> Yeah. Any statement can be and will be used against you in court allowed. You understand? Okay. Like we said, we're here to talk to you about a case. I've been working for a few months. Um, you know, we'd like to give you some information so you can find you can see what's going on and and then you can decide if you want to talk to us. >> And before before you say that, okay, we're just going to tell you this. You're not close together with her. M >> okay we know we kind of know what's going on and behind the scenes or whatever just here and there >> okay [clears throat] but before we get to that or whatever you know we just want to get your side of the story about what y said we pretty much spoke to everybody about or whatever but it could be something that we're wrong about you know but that's what we want to talk to you about you know what I'm saying because this is just the information that we get >> any information that we get and we got to follow Right. >> So that's what we want to kind of talk to you about trying to get your side before and say something else because maybe >> so you okay in talking to us? >> No. >> Okay. So I got this check case and I got about seven people cashing checks. >> Mhm. >> And we've talked to everybody and everybody has told us where they got the check. So, and then reluctantly, some of them because you're related to them, they admitted that they all got their checks from you. But my thing is, who helped you? Who gave you the chance? Who's printing up the checks? Yeah, I mean, before she says, uh, you marry her before. We won't say it like this way because listen, we haven't been this long, okay? We when you see young people, you know, get saved stuff right here or whatever. But >> okay, basically I get it or whatever on certain time people get subitions or whatever they need to make. We get that. But this isn't. And what we're trying to figure out is as we said before, we've got information from family members. These people that we have to go back when they cash the checks, we have to go back. We got the check. Oh, we got to check this person there. Okay. That person there who usually are someone around this. We got to check. Okay. What we want to know is we want to find out who they got on the island. Right. >> Yes. >> Right. And that's what we're trying to find out [clears throat] from you is who you got from it could be somebody from Miami that's making [snorts] a person really not just a member just a member of that problem. How can I make >> Huh? How can I make? >> That's what we're saying. We're not saying that you were the one responsible for making the change. >> No, I I get that. What I'm saying is if I hadn't been do it, y'all spoke to me when I was at the house. You I must You mean what I'm saying? >> That's right. But I was on home be tension around that time. >> So you was there when I interviewed your mom? >> You were in the back room. >> You was in the back room, right? And what did your mom remember? I'll tell you what times, >> right? world, >> right? And I'm I'm going tell you what your mom told us at the time. >> She said she had she said somebody from me. >> Mhm. >> Okay. Then when your brother, >> right, that's your brother, right? >> Right. He woke in when we asked him. >> Mhm. >> Okay. [clears throat] He told us what? >> He goes, he didn't know. >> He didn't know who it was. >> Okay. >> At that time, being killed on the heart by evidence of whatever. >> Oh yeah, >> detective Maria. >> Mom said it was her son Jamarian. >> I asked I asked your mom what's his nickname >> and she said Queso. >> That's your nickname? >> That's not my nickname. >> Nobody calls you Queso. People at Project Lyft know you as Ko. >> I used to go by Kes before I got in. Okay. So that was your name before. >> Yeah, I don't qu. >> You don't like queso now? [clears throat] >> That was >> Was that like something your mom called you when you growing up or? >> No, that was somebody in the neighborhood used to call me cuz I want to fight. That's not that's not that's not the that's not reputation that I pursue, you know. >> Okay. >> Why? >> So it's not something you wanted to be called. Some people just called you that. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> I came home sometimes. That's I have I had my little activities besides going to project my high school diploma. After I did that, I got a job at Dunk Donuts. I'm worried about a store. I was paying money supposed to pay. So that's when I stopped going. You know, I looking for a different job. want job and then I got I got I can't even say that I got that she was doing something by my own mother but the whole time for probation people have wrenches I can't do anything I've got enough the situation I knew that but I just got suicide had a house. No, everybody need a house. I go to school. I need to get by the house. I don't necessarily never see nobody or get into it. No, I like home. >> So, you remember hanging out in the neighborhood? >> Not since you got out. >> Mhm. [clears throat] >> When did you get out? >> Uh, I was set. Someone say I say what were you in >> I hear you fighting well. >> Okay. I know the situation brought my attention probably but they as I know. >> So you were working every time. Yeah. >> Yeah. They said you didn't used to work there. [clears throat] >> That's my second time with him though. I go I used to be a junior mentor. I sh my story youth and stuff you know who try and pass. I know how that feel [clears throat] >> but it's not it's not my call to do you to just do something. Why would I do something? I'm just going to change. I try to change you know even for this situation I try from change it's just what I do. So, so you don't know anything about these chests? >> How many people did we get to J? >> Five people. >> We It was you. >> No, I told you. And we're not going to sit in here all day and whatever. Try to >> Yeah. You know, basically what we wanted to do was we want to come in get your side off the story. You're saying that you don't know anything about this right here. Now, before you go back though, >> uh because do you have enough to charge him now? >> I do. >> Okay. So, before you go back, [clears throat] >> I want you to just think about this one thing. >> But you've been in the system and nothing that we're going to say here. Uhhuh. too many that's going up. I don't scaring you or you you been to the top you did for years. >> Yeah. >> You don't understand. So that's fine. >> So well I just want I just want to say this one thing. >> Mhm. [clears throat] >> To [ __ ] saying that hey you did this now. >> Mhm. [clears throat] She's in charge you with the cause. Now the officer was in charge though with the hear what I'm saying. Listen to what I'm saying. >> Okay. She has she's saying she has enough. That may not be enough to comm >> at one store. >> What store? >> The circle eight. >> I know. I double cash in the chest. Right. Exactly. >> I know. Exactly. And here's the deal that I had right now. The point that I'm trying to make to that is same thing with these. This ain't the first time done this. I've been working on my my entire career. I am for >> I've been working at him my whole life. This the only child I ever had when I finished college force man. And I can tell you just like this right here. What I'm telling you right now, >> whatever this whenever we have those cases like that, >> those little incidents where we sit down and we start investigating cases >> where checks are being cashed at certain places or whatever. >> Nine time out of 10, they ain't looking for the person that is passing checks out. And the person that's [clears throat] catching. >> So we're usually after the person >> the counter >> that's a person that's the chase >> doing that stuff there or whatever. Those other people that the state ones >> we I get it. You go into those people. We've had some girl that came down from Miami. We've had some that came down from Tallahassee. We've had some that even come from New York. And what they do is not only in South Bay where we had this app, we also had a hacker in uh Cahoki, they'll go up there with you and what they'll do is they'll take this tax person. >> They'll say, "Hey, listen to you want to raise some money, >> dude. Whoever blah blah blah is down. This man [ __ ] All right. I'm get 20 checks. >> Okay. this year, that year, whatever. You tell who the people is. I put the name on it, make it look legit, whatever. Only thing they got cash that's sit there >> and they know when they do that that these people in these places, they need money and they going to take a chance on Google. >> Nine times out of 10, most of those cases that we had, the state ain't looking for these people that around check your mom or your brother. >> Yeah. for this this old girl that left there or the person that gave the check. They're looking for the person that actually made the checks. >> Yeah. >> Okay. That's that. Now on cases like this right here with you, Richard doing just like you're doing. I totally respect what you're saying. If that's the statement that you want to kill, I totally respect that. But you have to understand also too. But this is what we tell everybody that's in your position right now. >> Yeah. >> Okay. We tell everybody about this right here. You have to understand we have five people, five totally different individuals that the state motion is going to get to come in court and say you gave them that chance. Now, if they decide to put the B on you, then hey, that's up to them. But that's us. I want you to understand it's not us. We have to do our job. I understand. >> I understand your position by what you're saying too. Hey, bro. If you didn't do it, I'm not I don't want you to sit here and tell me that, yeah, you did it. If you didn't do it, I'mma take your I'm going take what you're telling me. She's going to take what you're telling me. We're going to go this door here. She's going to write up the paperwork that she have. >> Yeah. >> She got five separate individuals telling them that yes, I cash your checks and this is the person that gave me the check. Duh. >> She trying to take it to the state attorney. >> If the state attorney decides that they want you, they will bring each and every one of those people in the board. >> Yeah. >> And you're going to have to convince the jury and that all five of those people for whatever reason don't got together and conspired out of everybody that they could pick. Out of thousands of people, they decided just to pick you. trouble then you have to go to a jury and a jury got to decide >> but I don't really what I'm saying to you is that I don't want you to think that initially we're trying to part in you now when we first came in >> we already had right check your past bro we already knew about that listen this guy here he's going to prison >> going to prison you done in prison those guns are Usually they not going to be straight up with you. They going to tell you they just do what you do. So we stay with them. But I always like what we always like to do is at least try to give you opportunity and tell you like this. Listen, I know J. I know you ain't the one that you want out there checks and make them check. I'm just saying like this all I'm saying already. If I'm on house arrest around this time and going and I'm still going to school, right, how there anything possible? Like that's this is what I'm saying. If if I'm doing something like this and this allegation came up initially person a person to show some type of guilt towards it meaning cuz when this initially happened they brought it to Miami. I go to Gilbert to cast my [ __ ] You feel me? Why? >> I go to Gilbert's and they dropped me to Gilbert's and home. No, in between. >> When did you go out on uh house arrest? >> Well, I like I got out of prison and got on house arrest. >> When you got out of prison, you're on house arrest? >> Yeah. >> Until you were arrested. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> So, it's never in between. is directly every Tuesday I go project lift probation back project lift home everything during that period of people going to project lift I'm with a project lift that let me ask you this one >> I know you and your mom just feel like somebody trying to p something on you I'm going tell you that's quite decision. Anytime we have a mother and a son that's kind of making that that's hard to me. >> You know what I'm saying? Because I I sit there all and I'm the idiot that the one person in the world. >> Okay. >> It shouldn't. I'm not saying about your case. One person in the world is going to stand with their head is going to always be your mom. But I hate to see the fact that you and your mom are kind of going through this. I just want to go bad out of there. Okay. But you have to understand your mom. >> No, you're not. >> Your brother, >> okay, both said that you didn't [clears throat] even cuz I know >> so long. I've been she didn't want to. And I've been doing it so long, Jermaine. I've been doing this so long, bro. I can't even really tell you. I mean, I'm spit that ass with I've been investigating cases for 17 years. I came to tell you one time where I felt like a mother as a lie and say, "Hey, my kid, this is what he did." Just to see if you can get a clue. Now, I'm not saying that not by doing cases. I just grab I know you was telling me about [snorts] the thing that you know you and your mom kind of going through now. >> Yeah. >> This something new to me. Be real. There's nothing new with me when cuz my phone always wasn't there. [snorts] >> I I rel was a relationship. >> Wow. Okay. Wow. >> So you I will let you know that when I arrested your mother and she did tell me this. When I took her to the jail, she was refused and she was admitted to the hospital. >> Huh? >> Your mom was in the hospital for two days. >> When? last week with high blood pressure. Apparently, she has not been taking high blood pressure medicine for the last year or two, but she needs it and her blood pressure's been really high. I haven't known anything. I just know when I came home, I was doing I was trying to do the right thing. >> All right. Well, just let you know, [clears throat] your mother is not she's not the best health. >> She been going through it with a dude. That's why I'm in predicament like this. You know, I been trying to work get off her feet, but her relationship ain't no for. But what she did means I forgive. I'm forgive. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. [clears throat] >> I want to talk, but at the same time, I'm can't talk to her. But I know it's not the first time. This time the first time you chose your your significant other three kids instead of your all your kids my big brother on drugs. >> Who's your big brother? >> You can't help people sometimes when they don't want to be helped. Sometime sometime care you ain't going to give up. >> You can't give up. But you you really can't until they want help. You can't help them. >> It still is right. I said my heart is not right. >> No. >> So what she done to me already, >> you know, >> I forgive her for it, but I can never forget it. I know. I know. I know. I've been a black sheep family. I know, you know, and I messed up one time. I came home. I'm trying I'm trying to mess up again. Not count to. >> Okay. But I can see for her putting me in predicament like this just by putting charges on me and I'm already fight charges and you don't probation but you could get your stuff and I had clearance but instead you made that time that hurt me. So this right, I'm saying I always been the type of person that's genuine and caring, >> right? >> This ain't the first time in a scenario like this. You feel me? When everybody hates you, I know I'm hated around anyways. >> So it's nothing to do for somebody just, oh bull, he going to do this, but the fact that I shot I shot people. I want to change. That won't last. I ain't had nothing about them being hospitalized. I can barely call my people. >> I didn't think you could make phone calls cuz you're confined. So that's I didn't think you knew. >> No, I tried to call out. I know she was working two days out of the week. I had people check up on her, ask how she doing. She sleep. Oh, [ __ ] Forget him. Fles. I'm the person yelled then she tell my mother to just tell me she don't want nothing to do with me after all I done for her. So for her to say this about me I'm trying to say it. >> But why would everybody else say the same thing? >> Cuz I'm not a li. I'm not going to lie. That's why I had that's why I have to move all day. I'm going to move in with my girlfriend mother. Where's that? Where's that? She standing a royal brother. >> Royal. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. See, I see one thing about I [snorts] get it. But we just can't do what you know. >> Yeah. But I understand you know. But what I'm saying this not the first time my mother don't try to piss up on me. I say what she got going on and stuff like that. >> Yeah, bro. No, I my thing is that I told you, you know what I'm saying? I don't know about you know I got big people that go vouch on me like this for you probably >> you probably you probably don't need [clears throat] uh the people from actually communicating the other >> hey project was the victim Yeah, they're Yeah, I talked to people. >> So saying they the people that actually been dropping me off and stuff like that actually taking me to be taking me home and stuff like that and stuff like that. >> How long were you thinking? >> [clears throat] >> I've been there before before I charge. I went on the road before and I was to get my I got locked up. So I came here, I came back in and they gave me a second chance to get my high school diploma which I pursued that. >> Yeah. They said you were enrolled there two separate times, >> you know. Okay. [clears throat] [snorts] around. >> All right. Yeah, I think the dumb side waiting for you. Jeez, bro. >> Watch your head again. Good. Watch it. So, I'm I'm here about some check cases and I already have like your fingerprint on all the checks. It's already been confirmed at you. whatever the cases, I don't [clears throat] need you to tell me anything about that case, but everybody I've interviewed has told me who gave them the check. So, that's I'm here to see if you're going to be truthful and tell me who gave you the check. Cuz everyone I've interviewed has sent the who gave me the check. >> His name is Mariana. >> Okay. Well, I have to read your rights because I can't ask you questions. I mean, you I didn't ask you that, but you >> So, can I get that done and then we'll talk? >> Okay. And I have a picture so I can confirm we're talking about the same person. Okay. This is a tape sworn statement being taken on Thursday, June 13th, 2024, and the current time is 6:58. It's for the offense of cashing a check with intent to defraud um and grand theft. Case number is 247. This interview is being conducted by Detective uh Mary Hansen Moreny ID 6 and >> and Deputy Madano ID7. >> And for the record, so I just have to read you your rights. I have to make sure you understand them before we talk. Okay. I'm required to warn you before you make any statement that you have the following constitutional rights. You have the right to remain silent and not to answer any questions. Any statement you make must be freely and voluntarily given. You have the right to the presence and representation of a lawyer of your choice before you make any statement and during any questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, you're entitled to the presence and representation of a courtappointed lawyer before you make any statement and during any questioning. If at any time during the interview you do not wish to answer any questions, you are privileged to remain silent. I can make no threats or promises to induce you to make a statement. This must be made of your own free will. Any statement can be and will be used against you in a court of law. Do you understand all the rights that I rent to you? >> Yes. >> Okay. And with your rights in mind, are you are willing to talk to me? >> Yes. >> Okay. So, for the record, I'm advising you that I am a duly sworn deputy sheriff for the county of Palm Beach, state of Florida. Do you understand that? Yes. In compliance with Florida State Statute 117.10, law enforcement officers are notaries of the public for the purpose of notorizing, certifying, or attesting to documents in connection with the performance of official duties. You are also advised that persons making false statements under oath before such an officer shall be guilty of perjury and subject to penalties of Florida State Statute 837. Do you understand? >> Yes. >> All right. So, we'll just start with the obvious. These checks look familiar. >> And where did you cash these checks? >> Yeah. Did anybody tell you to go there? >> Did anybody tell you to go there to cash them? >> Yes. >> Yes. And who told you to go there? >> Omar. >> Omarian. Is that Omarian? >> Yes. >> Okay. So, I just showed him a picture of Jamarian. Uh Tracy. And did Tracy give you these checks? >> Yeah. >> Do you know where he got the checks? >> Some guy some somebody named Kario or something. >> Yeah. A friend of his. >> Kio. >> Does did you know that Omarian was a participant in Project Lift? Okay. Do you know anybody who's a participant there? No. >> Okay. So when you cashed these checks, you knew they weren't fake checks, counterfeit. You didn't earn the money? >> No, it was just he just was like that um um I want to make some money by cashing a check for him. And I was just like, "Yeah, I don't mind or whatever." And he told me to come over and give me a check and told me to go to circuit to cast a check. and went to Eddie Cass the check and he gave he um when I kept the money for the check he gave me like 100 from the check and kept for it. >> Okay. Pretty much what everybody else has been telling me now. You picked up the check from his apartment. >> Queso for >> Yeah. Queso Jamari. So you know his nickname too. >> Queso. Yeah. >> So but you went to his apartment and picked up these checks. Yes. >> Do you think there's any chance he's printing them in his apartment? >> To be honest, I'm not sure if he's printing them or the other guys. >> Do you know where the other guy lives? >> Oh, every time like the guy, he always say he's coming from somewhere like Naples. He say he's coming from down that way like bounce off somewhere. >> Have you ever seen this guy? >> No. Do you think maybe he's making them up to show that it's not him? >> Well, making what? Making order up. >> Making up the person bringing him the checks so he's so people aren't thinking he's printing them. >> Well, I'm being inside of his house and everything. So, I think I would see if he was printing them. Every time it was always like waiting for someone to come. >> Oh, somebody came. the guy like the guy will come and then he will call like after the guy leave and say come and pick up the check. The guy was never seen though. >> He would just say the guy came. >> So I can't like I really honestly can't say if he printed them or the guy printed them cuz I'm not sure. >> Okay. >> I never seen it on it. >> So where are you living? >> Where am I living? >> Yeah, >> I live in South Bay. >> Do you have an address? >> Well, not really. Not a physical address. >> Who are you recently staying with? Your >> box listed >> on the 10th >> on 10th Avenue. >> 155 Southwest. >> Okay. So, you just try to stay with whoever will take you in. >> Well, that's Well, my sister is like we just we go through our stuff and I'll leave probably come back. But >> So, you know your nephew got arrested, right? >> He uh cash checks too. would forget what his name is who just turned like 18. They said Christian. Yeah. >> They told >> they told you. >> Yeah. >> And cuz he he was honest with me. He told me who he got the check from. >> Yeah. Cuz my aunt, she called me and when she did get in touch with me, she was telling me that I detected talked to her and was telling me to um to give him a call to turn myself in and go get it over with. And I recently went to jail for a warrant for uh driving as a driver unra vehicle. And I came I actually was in like four or five days. I went to court at the first appearance and when I was in court the guy did me somebody did mention as was I affiliated with something with Project Lift and my public defender was like I don't think so. And he was like I have to look into it. They suck me back to myself. They transfer me over to gun club where I like stay like four or five days. I was spilled out. >> Yeah, I was on vacation or I would have came and talked to you. >> And that's what I was saying. I was like, "Okay, I'm in jail. Okay, this the time that I should go to talk to the detective, but no one ever came." Even when the guy came over to gun club, I was thinking that was for, but it wasn't. >> Yeah. Yeah. So now [clears throat] here I made back like >> so if you had just turned yourself in >> but that was the reason why I just when the two warrants and then when the guy mentioned project live I didn't even get a chance to even say anything. My club defender just like and it just took me back to >> Yeah. So the warrant wasn't out at that point. >> No, >> it was in the works. >> I I guess I'm guessing the guy the officer told me the warrant just got issued on his hair. >> Yeah, it just got issued. So, and then I was waiting for you to be picked up. I couldn't locate you. Your family wouldn't tell me where you were. And then I went on vacation and you were out of gas. Would you have picked up? Sorry. [snorts] I know cuz that's how come I know you've had kind of a rough month. You've been in and out of jail. >> Yesterday [clears throat] was my >> Okay. Well, I appreciate you uh just telling me what happened. You raise your right hand. You swear everything you told me is the truth. Okay. All righty. We are uh we are done. You're going to go to first appearance and now you know exactly what it's all about and you could just now you have information to tell your public defender. So, you have any questions of me? [snorts] Sounds like you need to uh get a job and stop living like this because this is not good. >> The thing about it, >> I keep a job and quit and just be out like for times and then just go back when I just feel like I'm just tired of like >> you just got to go to work whether you feel like it or not. >> I know that much. But I got to find a job that I really like like that I'm into that I like cuz I can get a job but my interest and I just quit. I don't know. >> What are you interested in? >> To be honest, >> you don't know. That's why you got to go try jobs. Work for a temp agency. Maybe you'll find something. They send you a new place every week and maybe you'll find something you like. That's kind of what I did for a while when I was young. All right. Well, good luck and uh I hope this is the last of your troubles. >> You guys got my handcuffs? >> Yes. [snorts] >> Take those back and I'll let you guys handcuff them. Bring them back. >> Sound good. >> Appreciate you being cooper. >> He just didn't want to turn himself in. What's the best way? >> I wouldn't want to turn myself in either. I mean, I have to make myself too or the for like I was my I wanted to I want like have my own B to where I wouldn't have to wait for nobody to come out cuz that's exactly why. Oh, >> yeah. All right. No, I'm just going to go put the video in. I'll put you in here. Okay.
