A routine domestic dispute takes a shocking turn when officers arrived to find a woman covered in visible injuries. She says her husband grabbed her, choked her, and slammed her into the pantry while their children watched. But his story is very different until officers uncover what really happened. >> You step over here with me. Can you call this gentleman for me? come around to the backside where the garages are. I got both uh subjects. What happened? >> So he came. So I text him asking him when he was going to be on his way. He had been gone getting his haircut and I was with the kids and I need to do some work with my computer. So things said argument over text message and he came he's like I'm making my daughter a sandwich or let me talk to you. And he was like let me hold you. You need to hear what I'm saying. I'm like no just say it regularly. So I'm trying to pull back. He's choking me, putting his hands all on me. My kids were screaming. He knocked me against the pantry. So, there's a mark on my back. >> Okay. >> And this is not the first time that he's done this. >> Okay. >> Let me go talk to him. >> 62. >> Yeah. This is going to be a 95. >> Okay. >> What's going on, boss? >> Whatever. I whisper in her ear. She freaked out, you know, like this. I'm like, "Calm down." I'm do I was like, "Calm down. Calm down." Speaking to her like she need to be spoken to. I said, "Calm down." That's all I did. My hand was right here. I'm saying, "Calm down. Calm down." Cuz you scared the kids. >> Yeah. >> That's what I did. That's honest about you. I had her hand right here. I said, "Calm down." >> So, what did you put to her ear? Said one time. You put what to her ear? >> Nothing. I had my hand in the back of her head. Calm down. Calm down. You're scaring the kids. We already go ahead and take your hands out your pocket for if you don't mind. Can you tell me what happened? >> So came home, we had a discussion and I said she was getting she wasn't understand what I was saying. Kids crying, emotions going. I said come here. This is what I did. Her hands right here. I'm saying be quiet. Calm down. Cuz our kids are screaming. Listen to me. Nothing. I didn't hit her. Nothing. I said, "Listen to me. Calm down." Because our kids are watching. Our kids are yelling. You going like this. I'm saying, "Calm down." >> Okay. >> That's all I did. >> How did she get all the mocks all over? >> So, she's doing like this and I'm telling her to calm down. You want to open the garage door? Or you want to open it? >> Well, why are we opening the garage? >> Okay. Yeah. >> All right. All right. So, they had altercation. So, she >> So, I guess maybe take him in the house and talk to him. I don't know because everybody's just walking around. >> Come here. >> Are you coming? You coming to my house? >> Yes, sir. >> Wait, you can't come into the house? >> Yes, sir. We're going We're going to speak to the female. She We just told her. So, >> wait. You You can't come into my house. I am going to come on. >> At least let me get my kid. >> I'm I'm walking. >> Stand out here. >> Stand outside, baby. Stop. >> Stand outside. >> That's my daughter. >> That's fine. >> That's my daughter. >> Not bother we're having can I never bring my daughter out here? >> No. It's cold. >> So I'm going to go and hold right now. This is dangerous. >> Explain explain to >> Can you tell us what happened? I just came in. He went to his parents. I text him like, "When are you going to be on the way? I have some work to do on my computer. The kids are up. They're kind the rowdy or whatever. When are you going to be on the way?" He got mad because I asked. So words were saying two text messages. When he came in, he wanted to talk. And instead of just talking regular like how we are, he like, "Let me hold you so we can talk. I'm just trying to get away like you don't need to hold me while we're talking." So while I'm trying to get away, he's choking me up, hitting me all in my face or whatever and banging me against the pantry. There's a red mark on the back of my thing. And he like, "You're over dramatic. The kids are scream. He's trying to get away and he's floating me back. Like this is not the first time he put his hands on me. My mom was in abusive relationship. I'm not saying like this. >> So this is first. So you said this is not his first time. >> This is not his first time hands on me. >> But this is the first time you're calling police? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> This is the second time he's done it ever. >> Okay. Can I have your driver license so we can start the report? He's >> upstairs. Thank you. Let's >> make sure that she got a lot of marks. >> Yes, I I will do everything. Okay. Thank you. >> Let me see. Let me see your neck. Pay attention to this right here. So, you have all your >> Can you So, I can see. Okay. So, I can see the >> You said you also had something somewhere else. >> He said by the pantry. Okay. >> So, his version is that >> he started holding me like that. Yes. And I was trying to get away. So he was grabbing me up because I was trying to get away. >> How did he grab you? Did he grab by the th head? The arm >> of it arms like head right here, right here. Bang me up against I was trying to run away. I'm like I don't want my kids to see this. >> Okay. >> Now when he grabbed you by this, did you have trouble breathing or anything? >> No. >> Okay. Trouble getting away. >> You think he was trying to actually physically choke you or think he was holding you? >> I don't think he was at I feel like at first he was holding me. I wasn't accepting of that. We don't need to talk with you holding my head down so I can hear what you're saying. No. >> Okay. >> All right. Well, take care of the little one for a minute. YOU NEED TO HANDLE. >> NO. >> Take care of the little one for a minute. We're going to go talk to your husband. All right. Y'all are married. Okay. >> Don't worry about that. Let's go. Let's go talk. We got plenty of time to do all that. Take stuff out. >> Okay. >> Hey, sir. You can both get This is Officer Chel. She's taking the police report and she just got her side of the story. >> Yes. Give me one more. >> So tell me what's happened. >> Give me one moment. I'm still trying to calm down a lot for you right now. >> Take your time. >> Hey sir, where are your work pants from? When I was over in Europe, I saw some pants that were like that that had like extra big pockets for stuff. Is that where those are from? Where you at? >> He's already told me his version of it. He said he was holding her by the back of the hill. This calm down. Calm down. Holding her. She's got marks >> all around the face her back and everything. >> Her whole face and ears. Yeah. So he it's like he touched her, he put his hands on her. So >> it's not the first time he's been abusing her multiple times and this is the only time she >> If he doesn't want to talk, it doesn't matter. What do you think in this situation? What do you think should happen? >> So the bruises are visible. You should arrest them. >> You know it. What is the Are they married or uh together or living in a house? >> Living together, have kids together. >> Okay. >> And they're married. >> They're married. >> So, we just fall under family violence. >> Family violence. Yeah. >> Okay. And then if uh he's put her hands on her and then there's marks. What other What violation would that be? >> Um the violation. So, you need the code. >> Just the name. his name violence. >> Is it like aggravated assault? Aggravated? >> Oh, you mean that? Okay. Um cuz he was he said he's just trying to hold her head. >> He's unwanted touching and and they're married. So, >> okay. >> And she has visible injuries. >> Injuries. So, it will be simple batteries aggravated. Well, just battery if it's aggravated, >> right? What's the elements of comp? Aggravated battery is using a weapon with the intended murder law. But battery, what's that? What's the elements of the counter battery? >> Battery when he actually make the actual contact, >> right? And and >> wait and there's visible injury. >> Visible. And since this is family violence, you really don't have a choice. >> We got >> Okay. So, put all your stuff in your pockets >> cuz he's probably going to he's not going to be happy about what's going to happen. >> So, yeah. I mean, that's pretty pretty obvious. >> I mean, I I could definitely see personally I saw like the red all around her face. >> And when you get real close to it's all on her back and everything. It's it's it's not good. All right, we're going to have her hang on to the child for a second while we talk to you. Okay, >> ma'am. Can you step out real quick and just get the little one? Sorry. I don't want the baby freezing cold in here out here. Okay sir, you are under so badly because you don't have I can see clearly red marks on her neck. You said you were holding her but you are almost choking her. >> That's what she said. >> No, she said it was hand for her. You're almost choking her. That's and he's visible to everyone. So >> come on and stand up. Okay. >> Where you got? We going to check on make sure you ain't got nothing on you real quick. Okay, spread your feet. >> We'll let you go. >> Yeah, we'll get you some shoes. >> We'll let her explain the charges to you. You got to shoot. >> I used to buy. >> You'll probably want to get something that they may let you actually wear those in there >> as opposed to making little slippers. Where's your phone in the house? In the house. >> I'm sorry. >> That's in the house. >> You want to make a call? You said >> Yeah. >> All right. We'll we'll put you in the car. We'll bring the phone out there to you because they're not going to let you take your phone with you into the jail. Okay. So, uh you want to grab that phone? >> I checked him, but double check again since she's going in your car. Okay. just later. >> I'm going go get You got your camera? >> Uh, yeah. Let me get my camera. >> That's her ID. So, >> we need to get his identification. >> Okay. >> And then >> let me return to this and then >> we can do that when we get there though. >> Yeah. >> Is it face or is it a password or something? >> Yeah. Can I bring the car in? >> Do what? >> Make the call. >> Yeah, that's fine. >> What is it? >> 76. >> 29. >> Can you press Can you Okay. You see Tammy Thurman? >> What now? >> You see Tammy Thurman? >> Yeah. >> Press Timmy Thurman. Can you press the up there? >> This one? >> Yep. >> Can you press call? >> Can you put on speaker? >> What in the world? >> All right, they're about to I guess they about to take me to jail. >> No, they're not. See, I cannot What? >> They >> Hold on. Hold on. So, what are they going? This is a I have a problem with that. >> So, I can help explain if you want me to tell your business. I can I can I can tell I can tell her. Listen, I I came home and we had a discussion. We had the kids downstairs. She was going we was going at it. We was having a disagreement and I said, "Come here." So, I grabbed I grabbed her head to lock heads with me to talk in her face. So, she understand exactly what I'm saying. She kept moving her head. I kept getting her head still. She kept moving her head. So, that is how she has red marks on her. I did not hit her. I grabbed Yes, I grabbed her head. I did touch her. I grabbed her head, but I did not hit her. And she overreacted. She She overreacted. She moved her hand. She was trying to grab my hands and she was trying to grab and that's how she may have had red marks on her neck, but I did not hit her. I grabbed the back of the back of her head. >> So, are they saying that you harmed her? >> Is that what the accusation is? >> I think he's trying to say I assaulted her. So what it is and what I can explain to you. So any kind of unwanted touching. So I don't know if Are you from Georgia? >> Yes. >> So they have what they call So here's what they they have a thing called a family violence act. Okay. So anytime you put your hands on anybody so when he touched when he touched her and left marks even though she was moving that would fall under simple battery or it's either going to be it's either going to be battery or simple battery. can't touch people and and hang on let me hang hang on I'll finish this so it'll make it'll make more sense to you >> under the Family Violence Act in Georgia when we find any kind of probable cause as far as unwanted touching anything like that arrest must be made under the state >> so you so he has to be arrested because she made a call does she feel she has she has a lot of of of marks on her >> so based feel like she wants to press charges >> even for him to be locked up. >> Even if she doesn't want to press charges, we still we would still make the arrest. >> Wow. >> That's that's that's well that that that saves a lot of uh it it's a lot of like a lot of family violence issues. The state the state mandated that several years ago, >> but she Okay, I do understand that. However, I want to know from her, does she feel like she's in danger? Does she feel like she was assaulted? >> She was. That's why she called the police. That's why we're here. >> Well, I'm asking her because he's neither one of them are violent people. Yeah. >> So, that is just a misunderstanding from both of us. Of course, he should not have taken or put his hands on her. But to have an arrest charge, that's not my son. >> I don't get I get it. But you these unfortunately these things happen when people get upset. Like you just can't. There's not a lot we not a lot we our hands are tied with stuff like this >> because we >> I understand. So >> now what do I need to do? Where is he going to do? >> He's going to Rice Street. He'll go to Fulton County Jail. >> Rice. >> Yep. He'll be >> That's crazy. How do I bail him out? I just be >> He won't have a bond right now because it's going to be a family violence. >> So he has to he has to go see a judge. >> Wow. I cannot believe this. I'm on my way home now. >> Yeah. So, I'll uh one more time. >> You got her phone number. You know your You know her phone number by heart? >> Yeah. Can I at least Can I at least see my kids one more time? >> Well, yeah. We'll uh I'll see what they what they want to do right there. So, but you got her phone number, right? Okay. All right. Well, we're going to let you go so we can get this process started. Okay, ma'am. >> Thank you so much. >> Uh-huh. >> Yeah. Give me a second. Okay. Do you want to turn your phone off or anything so she don't have access to it or what? >> Yeah. >> I don't know. I don't I don't even remember how to turn these off. >> This one? >> Yeah. >> Just hold it down. Just one of them. >> Uh yeah, both sides. >> Oh, these two >> top and then the right uh top. Yeah. And then So, >> I'm going to take >> I'm going leave I'm going to leave it here so we ain't got to mess with it. Um he wants to see the kids one more time. Don't ask her if she's cool with that. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. That would have been a fight. >> Do we need anything else from her? >> Yeah. Hey, ma'am. I need to get um some uh pictures of your injuries that you got. >> Okay. And uh it's kind of dark in here. Can we step into the garage one more time? Just for a minute cuz I think the picture will show up better. >> Then it'll be okay for just a second. >> Okay. Just hold on. Give me one minute. Okay. Just one minute. Okay. Honey. >> Yeah. It'll be real quick. Okay. Listen. Let's get right. Let's see. Okay. All right. Uh there's a black Mercedes over here. Is that your car? >> No. No. Okay. I didn't know. Do y'all have a car here? >> Um his mom, she does have a Mercedes. >> Okay. I just Well, there was just a black Mercedes with black windows and tent and it was running and it was right there. I just didn't know if that maybe related. I don't know. >> Okay. Okay. >> It should be a work. >> Okay. No problem. You can go back to your daughter. It's okay. >> Okay. So, you also need to get the names and ages of the two daughters because it occurred in the presence of the children. >> Okay. And we should do a witness statement if possible. So you can write a witness statement out of what happened. >> Right. So let's see. You don't have your book here, do you? Your witness statements and stuff. So let me get a witness statement for. And then let's see what else. >> I think that'll be it. So you got family violence battery. >> Okay. >> You got uh cruelty and children in the second degree times two. >> Mhm. >> Okay. And that's it. There three charts. That should be good. >> Um, do you know what they were fighting about? >> If they are >> what they were fighting about. >> Uh, she said just over she was calling him and he didn't like it just to ask. Then when you were talking that was not the reason of the part. So you said he was just mad because you are asking, >> right? So, I text him like, "When are you on the way? The kids are giving me a hard time. I have worked on my computer." And I guess he didn't like what I was seeing, so he waited till he got back. He was like, "Let's talk." >> Okay. And just so that I'm clear, uh, what what did he do as far as um putting his hands on you? What does that mean? >> So, at first he just like grabbed me like, "I need you to hear what I'm saying." So, like I'm like, "We don't need to I'm sorry. We don't need to talk, but you grab me. I don't feel comfortable with that." And so I'm just moving away and that's when he was grabbing me up, choking me, slam me against the pantry. I'm trying to run away. So he's grabbing me and and my daughter >> is uh when he pushed you against the pantry, I see he's got a doororknob. Is that what hit you in the near the bottom and left that bruise there? >> Okay. And when you say choking you, was he just grabbing you by the neck or was he just choking you where you actually couldn't breathe? Choking. I could breathe. It wasn't like a >> He was like holding you by your face and neck more than >> like if I'm trying to get away, it's no reason to put your hands on me. >> Got you. Oh, no, no, no. I agree. I'm just trying to I I just want clarity to make sure I understand exactly everything that happened. So, um when you he was holding you by your face or was he was holding you by your throat? >> He started off holding me by my face. I'm getting away. He hold That's water over here. Holding me like this. holding me like that, grabbing me, banging me against the pantry. >> Mhm. >> And I'm simply trying to get away. We don't need to talk in his way. >> Yes, that's correct. Um, did uh did he say anything specific uh that you remember in a threatening way while he was doing that? >> No, he just like listened to me talk. I'm trying to talk to you. I'm trying to talk to you. Nothing. >> So, he's trying to talk to you and hold you there so that he listens so you listen his way. He said while he's holding you up against the wall and stuff, >> right? At first it was like even though that don't make sense for you to hold me here so I can hear what you're saying. That was it at first and then when I wasn't willing to allow him to do that, that's when it started. >> Gotcha. I understand. Um >> Okay. Go ahead. I need uh the age of the kids. >> He is seven months. He's seven months. >> Then you get his name. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Okay. Can you give me his name and >> this a witness statement here? You could just uh I think it says fill in your name uh name and date of birth here. Um and could you give a brief description of what happened? It only needs to be about a paragraph or so long. Okay. There's a pen for you. Okay. Okay. All right. I'll let you get everything you need for the report. I'll let you go ahead and go. I'll bring this in when I get finished. >> Okay. and then uh his driver's license. You probably just want to take this. All right. So, you can do the tickets and stuff. I'll attach these pictures pictures when I get back. >> Okay. >> Okay. So, we're good. He's going to be going down to Fulton County Jail. >> Okay. >> In about probably be like tomorrow morning realistically. At some point, he will be given a bond where he can be bonded out like by mom or you or whoever wants to bond him out, but he would have a bond. Um, and at that time the Fulton County Jail should contact you uh to let you know that he's being bonded. Okay. >> Um, if you have any questions, you can call the Hateville Police Department. We answer best we can. Most questions that would be about him specifically would go to Fulton County Jail. Um, also have these numbers on the back here in case you need any assistance, you know, with different services that the county provides in this situation. There's an explanation of it and a telephone number here if you want to call any of them. They can give you any help that you may need. Okay? >> And again, if you have any other questions or concerns or comments, give us a call back. We'll try and help you as best as possible. >> Okay? Is there anything else that you need us to do for you today? Okay. He will definitely be down there for at least 12 hours before probably before he can even get a phone call it be at least eight hours probably. >> Okay. If you need anything else, let us know. >> Yes, ma'am. Sorry you went through this and you did the right thing in calling. >> No matter what everybody's about to say, you still did the right thing about calling. >> Yes, ma'am. I'm going to shut this door behind me. I closed the garage door. Okay. This incident shows how a domestic argument can escalate into a serious police investigation. According to the body cam footage, the wife told officers that her husband grabbed her head and face, held her around the neck, and pushed her against a pantry while she was trying to get away. Officers observed visible marks and documented the reported injuries. The husband admitted grabbing the back of his wife's head, but denied hitting her, explaining that he was trying to get her to listen. After interviewing the parties and documenting the scene, officers arrested him. The charges reported in the footage were one count of family violence battery and two counts of cruelty to children in the second degree. Officers stated that he would be taken to Fulton County Jail, where Bond would be addressed later. The presence of children during a domestic dispute makes an already serious situation even more concerning. However, an arrest is not a conviction and the final outcome of this case is not established in the available footage. What do you think about how the officers handled this situation? Was the arrest justified based on the statements and evidence they documented, or do you think more investigation was needed. Share your thoughts respectfully in the comments.
