On June 27th, 2024, an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper attempted a traffic stop on a Hyundai Elantre for driving 86 mph in a 70 mph zone. The vehicle failed to stop and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The pursuit was then terminated because it entered a road construction zone. Troopers were then able to relocate the vehicle. They tried to stop the vehicle, however, it took off for a second time. The vehicle pulled into the rest area just south of US6 in Wood County and crashed in the north side of the parking lot. The driver fled on foot but was arrested soon thereafter. A trooper was attempting to enter the northbound on-ramp from the rest area when his patrol car was struck by a northbound 18-wheeler. The driver of the car, Javin Johnson, was charged with operating motor vehicle impaired, operating motor vehicle without a valid license, failure to control, failure to comply with order or signal of a police officer, and possession of drugs.
