Viewer discretion is advised. It was just before 300 p.m. on December 5th, 2024 when NYPD officers received a shot spotter alert at 81 North Portland Avenue in Brooklyn. When officers arrived, they found a witness who said they'd seen the shooting. The witness provided officers with a photo and the license plate number of the car believed to be involved. A short time later at 3:11 p.m., officers spotted that same vehicle heading east on Fulton Street toward Vanderbilt Avenue. They tried to pull it over, but the driver refused to stop. Christopher Ferguson was in the passenger seat. The driver was his female companion, but what officers did not know was that her three-year-old son was sitting in the back seat. The physical building right now. >> In front of the precinct. >> Where? >> In front of the 77. >> In front of the 77 right now. >> In front of the 77. We are physically in front of the 77. The driver still decided to flee, speeding several blocks before getting trapped in traffic near the intersection of Udica Avenue in Parkplace. With traffic blocking any escape, several NYPD officers exited their patrol cars and approached the vehicle on foot. As they closed in, Mr. Ferguson suddenly opened the passenger door and pointed a gun toward the officers. In that split second, two officers fired their weapons, sending a barrage of bullets into the vehicle with the three-year-old child still sitting inside. The female driver attempted to flee on foot, but was quickly apprehended by officers just yards away. Police noticed the child in the back seat, and the child was quickly removed from the vehicle. The driver's young child was not harmed. However, the driver herself was shot twice and suffered minor injuries after being tackled. Ferguson, who had been struck by the gunfire, was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. >> The [laughter] driver was later indicted by a Brooklyn grand jury for firstdegree reckless endangerment and other charges related to putting her child in danger.
