drop the knife no stop EMS okay at approximately 4 54 a.m Austin 911 Communications received a call describing a female banging on an apartment door stating a man was chasing her in the 3600 block of Menchaca Road and requesting police the caller described a white female wearing blue jean shorts and a turquoise top the caller said the female was sitting outside his door at 4 55 am APD officers were dispatched to the call location and at approximately 5 AM they arrived on the scene and began speaking with the female who matched the description in the 9-1-1 call the female said A man was chasing her through the apartment complex and he had a knife the female described the male subject James Allen woodrome as a six foot three inches tall 60-year-old man with gray hair who was last seen wearing navy blue or black basketball shorts with a dark shirt at approximately 503 am officers communicated over the police radio the man was last observed running west through the apartment complex at approximately 506 am Mr Woodrum approached the officers in the parking lot of the apartment complex while they were speaking to the female the male subject walked toward the officer while holding a knife in his hands officers began to give commands to Mr Woodrum to drop the knife officers attempted to de-escalate the situation by continuously giving commands to Mr Woodrow he did not comply with the commands and repeatedly yelled at the officers to shoot and kill him he was very recently criminally charged for a separate offense and was set to serve three years in prison for the possession of cannabis with a quantity of less than two thousand pounds and greater than 50 pounds which may have contributed to his agitated and crazed actions that night one officer deployed a department-issued taser but the taser deployment was ineffective Mr Woodrow moved forward in the direction of the officers officers continued commands to drop the knife and walk backward creating more distance between them officers also requested the female stay back another officer deployed a department issued taser a second time and it did not affect the suspect Mr Woodrum continued to walk toward them with the knife in his hand one officer then discharged his department-approved firearm toward Mr Woodrow at which point he fell to the ground a knife was located on the ground next to the suspect officers then moved the knife away from him once the scene was made safe by removing the knife the officers immediately performed life-saving measures and requested medical assistance at the scene Mr Woodrum succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene at 5 19 am no other civilians or officers sustained physical injuries per APD protocol all three officers have been placed on administrative leave this incident was captured on three officers body worn cameras and a recorded 9-1-1 call you are about to hear and see the following is all available body worn camera and I had to keep stopping to drive just a male stocky build a guy walking around here you know white black just turned 60. but it's six foot three and massive he just got sentenced for something from before I met him and that ruling came in on Friday we went to court and I was there with him I told him I would go so if he was sentenced three years in prison how is he out he is uh he was given 30 uh to 60 days to do uh to turn himself in his lawyer is supposed to reach out by Wednesday about the date for him to turn himself in so he was out on bond originally but yeah yes he's been on bond for but so we hadn't been together a little while I said for the ruling here we go so you know yes we've been engaged I say husband and he usually stood life but we were engaged we've been together for nine months or so um 30th I have two years he had when he was arrested he said where'd you last see him hanging over here he came running and I could hear him and the dogs in that one I guess it was making them loud I think of him running and I was like stop just go just go just leave and he was like come on give me my stuff he broke in the back patio door of where I rented what do you mean give you your stuff sir uh basketball shorts he's old he just turned 60 gray hair six three dark shirt basketball shorts it's like a Navy or black is he said his name James James is this him right here
