You just watched a raw example of how quickly an ordinary stop can become deadly. The officer drew his weapon to protect himself and anyone nearby. Levels of force in such moments are decided in seconds. This footage raises hard questions. Did the officer use appropriate force to stop an immediate threat? And could more have been done to deescalate before it got to this point? Tell us what you think. Was this lawful self-defense or a failure to handle a clear mental health crisis?
