They're walking south just for a fun, you know, rough day on the beach. As they're walking that, see that leg right there? >> Yeah. >> I assure you, if I would have heard a power saw going, I would have woken up immediately and had something to say about it. Fore! Foreign! Foreign! Fore eating. Fore fish. God. I think so. [Music] >> I still do. >> Yeah. Fore speech. Fore Nice. How are you? Fore! Foreign! Foreign! Super weird because that engine still looks like it's in pristine condition. So, >> it didn't even look like I mean that in the sense of like the fire didn't even touch the engine or any part of the front of the vehicle. Oh, it was only Fore. >> How's it going? >> What's up, man? >> So, this is Evan Millies. He's a We've dealt with him before. Sai is mostly a good guy. He's got in this trouble a couple times, but good dude. Okay, >> so they're they walked down the S-curve from Sheridan, started walking south just for a fun, you know, rough day on the beach. As they're walking that, see that leg right there? >> Yeah. >> Said that it was up about approximately where the end of that stick, that, you know, branches >> by the bush. >> That bush is said they saw up. >> So like up on the hill kind of. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So said that he him and his buddy who's in my squad right now walked out called us and then when we came back there was about I don't know maybe 7 ft 7 ft >> each of the rock >> I moved it just for evidence purposes just swept away. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> And I've documented it well on body cam of different angles of where it was and >> Okay. Cool. All right. We got >> You want to tell me where it is? >> What's your name again, bud? >> Evan. >> Evan. >> Okay. Evan, how long were you out here? about probably an hour. >> An hour? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> You usually come this way. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> The first time you seen anything here. >> Yeah. It's the first time you seen anything like this. >> Yeah. Okay. >> All right. Evan, just hang tight. Don't go anywhere. Okay. >> Yeah. All right, hang on, Evan. We'll talk to you some more. Okay. Fore [Music] 352 32 head southbound Hampton on 45 southbound on for >> any weapons it sir >> no I don't >> what's going on somebody just uh radio want to know what's going >> up in the ignition. >> Yes. >> I can go to Yeah. The DMV Speech. Speech. Speech. forchech. Fore! Fore!chch! Fore speech. You said that her not coming to work was very unusual. >> Very unusual. >> And that you were scared. >> I was. >> Why? because it wasn't I mean if she was even going to be late she would text me or call and I when I messaged her I said please just text me and let me know you're okay cuz she doesn't have to come to work she doesn't have to answer her phone but I just wanted her to let me know that she was okay and I knew she would if she could and when she didn't I got very scared. >> You tried to call her? >> I did. >> And what happened when you did that? It went I think it went to voicemail. Otherwise, it just rang and rang. >> What else did you do? >> I texted her and I went by her apartment. >> What did you do at her apartment? >> I just pulled into the parking lot, looked for her car, didn't see it, did spun around, sat there for a minute, hoping that I'd see her. And when I didn't, I drove home. >> Did you go into the building at all? >> I didn't. I did not. No. >> Do you recall seeing um any social media that Shade would have posted the night before? >> I did not until the next day. >> Okay. Um so was that on April 2nd that you saw some social media? >> Uh that would have been on April 3rd. I don't really use social media, but I saw it on somebody else's phone the next day. >> Okay. What did you see? Uh, it was a Snapchat. >> And what was it? Was it a photograph? >> It was not. No, it was a Snapchat from a bar on Water Street, I think, where she was playing some kind of bar game. I don't ear pong maybe something like that. >> That first portion of the video, what were you doing? essentially looking over the vehicle just seeing what kind of fire damage is done to the vehicle. And then initially when I looked at the front plane of glass for the front window. Uh that's initially where I first checked vehicles for their VIN number. And then the second time when I went to the inside of the door panel is where I checked for the second pin the VIN number. The first one is destroyed in the vehicle fire. So I got the VIN number off of the door. >> The purpose of getting that information is what? Um, typically and sometimes with the Milwaukee Police Department, some vehicles have license plates that do not match the vehicle that it has on it. So, I always double check and write down the VIN number of the vehicle and the license plate as well, just to make sure that they match if I run the license plate or if I run the VIN. >> You did that in this instance? >> Yes, sir. >> And then did you run that information to try to figure out who the vehicle belonged to? >> I did. >> And who did the vehicle vehicle belong to? We run it through a certification called E Time, which is a Department of Transportation check. And when I ran the license plate and the VIN of this motor vehicle, it listed to Sad Robinson. >> Clip of you standing at the driver's side of the vehicle. Um, how would you describe the interior of the vehicle? >> Uh, completely destroyed. Um, essentially set on fire. Complete fire damage of the interior of the vehicle. The frame that I have on the screen right now from your body cam, it looks like there's a lot of trash. Do you see that? >> Yes. >> Do you know this location? Is that abnormal for behind this building? >> Not at all. >> Okay. Is this building as it was abandoned at the time? Was it kind of a dumping ground? >> It could be used as a dumping ground. Yes. Fore perhaps one day that week where it's it's your opinion you heard Max at say it again 5:00 a.m. 4:30. >> Yeah. Right around 5:30 6 a.m. I just I would say that I heard him bringing what I thought was a suitcase. I thought he was packing and leaving or something like that for, you know, a couple of days, which he was known to do. >> Yes. >> Um >> 5 but 5:30 or 6 a.m. >> 5:30 to 6 a.m. >> And that's the reason you can identify that as a time is because of your work schedule being a 7:30. I'm up at 6:00. And I can remember there was a day. >> Yes. >> Where where it was like 6:00 a.m. and Max or 5 maybe 5:30 and Max is up. >> Correct. >> Is that because you talked to him? No, that's not because I talked to him. It's because I heard him coming down the stairs with presumably what I thought was a suitcase. >> Got it. So, you can remember hearing him at a 5:30 or 6 a.m. with what you thought was a suitcase. >> Correct. >> Okay. Not not 1:00 in the morning. >> No. No. This was early hours of the day. >> Not 2:00 a.m. when it would be bar time coming home and that time of day. >> No, I heard nothing. >> Or midnight. >> Nothing. I've heard absolutely nothing that night. >> Okay. When you say that night, I mean, is the elephant in the room here? Are you talking about the night that Shade came over of which we're here? >> I'm talking about the April 1st night in discussion that we've been talking about. >> Okay. When you say that night, that's what you're referring to. >> Yeah, that is the night that I'm referring to. >> So, no noise that night. >> No noise. >> No screaming. >> No screaming >> or or or struggling. No, no sounds of struggling >> or a a saw being used. >> No, nothing like that. I I assure you if I would have heard a power saw going, I would have woken up immediately and had something to say about it. >> Yes. Or or if or if it was 1:00 in the morning, >> it's one in the morning and you hear thump thump thump thump thump coming down the stairs. That's something you'd want to address. >> Correct. >> Right. And similarly, you didn't hear someone rumaging around the basement collecting a bunch of tools. No, nothing like that >> or or anything in the basement at all. >> I didn't hear anything in the basement at all. >> And actually to if if a person if Max were to exit the house, the only way Max is getting out of his unit other than jumping off a balcony or a window is to go out that side door. >> Out that side door. Correct. >> With the hydraulic arm that doesn't work. >> You are correct. >> Right into the neighbor's home. Literally right up to the neighbor's home. You are correct. Yes. >> A group of about 20, they're searching places mentioned in the criminal complaint of Robinson's suspected killer, Maxwell Anderson. Fore! Foreign! Foreign! Fore speech. [Music] What about you? [Music] [Music] Huh? [Music] [Music] Heat. Pack it up. In the middle of the street. [Music] Next spot. All [Music] right. That's for forch. Fore! Foreign! Foreign! Fore speech. Foreign speech. Foreign foreign foreign speech. All right. So, if I understand you correctly, detective, based on that video, um around the time of 3:05 a.m. is when the human silhouette appears to descend the bluff, remain down there until about 4:17 a.m. Correct. >> That's correct. >> And that would be consistent with the times that the vehicle entered the service road where the gate is, and then exited subsequently around 4:30 a.m. >> That's correct. The pump videos that we saw, it was your your testimony that the figure was somewhat of a human silhouette. Silhouette, >> correct? >> A black and white figure. >> Correct. >> Grainy images. >> Yes. >> Going in the treeine area. >> Correct. >> Which doesn't show us really anything other than a some human figure going up and down in that area. Right. >> Yes. You can't make out even that the person has a a body part that they've discarded, can you? >> That's correct. I can't determine that. >> Okay. Can you determine when you when you watch when you spend all these hours studying the video, can you determine the race of the person? >> No. >> Can you determine if it's male or female? No. CV. for Hong Kong. As to count one, the verdict reads, "We the jury find the defendant Maxwell Anderson guilty of firstdegree intentional homicide as charged in count one of the information." As to count two, we the jury find the defendant Maxwell Anderson guilty of mutilating a corpse as charged in count two of the information. As to count three, we the jury find the defendant Maxwell Anderson guilty of arson of property other than a building as charged in count three of the information. As to count four, we the jury find the defendant Maxwell Anderson guilty of hiding a corpse as charged in count four of the information. >> Thank you for this opportunity. On behalf of myself and my family, I'd like to say a few things. First, to Shave's family, there are no words that I can share that will reduce your pain. You are all in my thoughts every single day. Although it is not the same having lost a boy that was like a son to me 10 years ago I have some sense of what you are feeling. It took me a very long time to get the p past the pain that I felt for the person that contributed to his passing. I'm not asking you to forgive anybody or anything that is between you and your God. To the court in particular, to Deputy Allen, to Judge Cllo, thank you for your compassion and all of your professionalism. to Max. We want you to know that we love you and support your plan for self-improvement. In this, we hope for a path for you to become a positive influence for society both while you are incarcerated and hopefully after. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> You really want to just keep that in mind. >> I am the mother of Shade. Um it's I've raised my daughters. Um, we are light worker people. We are very angelic individuals. For us to even be here, I'm going to have to ask. I wanted to go before my daughter because I need her to be protected by this heavy demonic energy that is residual in this courtroom. This devil and his entire demonic family in this courtroom. It's very heavy to where I can't even talk. But your honor, um I am asking that everyone in this courtroom be protected um through the white light by this devil that sits beside my daughter referred to you as a man. You will never be a man. You're a Scarra. If you could direct your comments to me, please. Yes, your honor. First off, your honor, I would like to thank you and the entire um team for what we all had to endure, which was it was freaking torture. This demon and his attorney, they knew exactly what he did and what he was responsible for. They took us through extreme agony and pain. We are already dealing with so much trauma. There's no such thing as justice with what you did to my daughter and what you have done to my family. You plotted and planned to kill and you disrespectfully spread my daughter across the Milwaukee like a piece of trash. How dare you? If you had any type of core piece of anything left in your demonic soul or if your parents, your devil parents had any type of respect. I don't even know how they could sleep at night. You know what type of demon son they raised and then tried to cover it up? Y'all tried to flip that house. Y'all didn't did so much. Don't make no damn sense. Noise about the millionaire murderer's son comes and takes my daughter. I don't give a freak about what your color status or how much money you got. You ducked with the wrong family cuz I don't play. You thought you was going to get away. But I'm going to respectfully request that you confess where the rest of my daughter's crown is. If you have any respect left for me and her father and her sister and the rest of my family in this community, you've already done the worst. You can at least give us that much. Your your honor, judge, I'm asking that this demon be respectfully returned back to hell as soon as possible. That's what I'm requesting through the court. Please return him back to hell as soon as possible. No possibility of life without parole. The maximum maximum. And this devil should not be given any more special millionaire privileges being held in certain populations. He needs to be not he but that devil needs to be placed in the population with the rest of the demons that harm and hurt individuals, the murderers, the serial killers, the felons. You are not on no special privileges. Your money is not going to protect you. It's a done deal. Shotti's justice is just now beginning. And you and all of your family will eternally pay for what you did to us. [Music] I would like to start by saying that from the bottom of my heart, my deepest and most sincere condolences go out to Shade's family as well as everyone else affected by this tragedy. That being said, your honor, I took this to trial without ever once trying to make a plea deal of any kind because I did not commit these crimes. And so, I plan to appeal my convictions while I hope and pray that further investigations not only prove my innocence, but find and deliver true justice. >> Anything else you wish to say? >> No, ma'am. At the point of sentencing, I have to look at different factors. I have to look at your past record. And I'll agree with the defense that the prior record on its face is not as egregious as many cases I see in my courtroom. Quite often you see a background filled with felonies and violence. But what I said was on its face. When you look at the record as it's worked through in the pre-sentence investigation, I'll agree with the state that there are some red flags that jump out at you that um that show a level of violence that maybe may have been a precursor. You know, when you look at the original case mentioned from Pewwaukee from March of 2010, it looks like it's an underage drinking party. And when the officers come in, they find um a bunch of people hiding and they indicate they're about to do a search and later there's people saying that they were being held in the home against their will. Kind of a weird comment to have on an underage drinking party. Ultimately, they find Mr. Anderson hiding behind an entertainment center. He's belligerent. He tells the police you, "I hope you're proud to serve your country this way." Um, he's then very coarse and his comments are obscene. He then urinates in a police vehicle and calls a female police officer. Inappropriate. It sounds like Mr. Anderson's the guy that does what he wants when he wants and he follows his own rules, not the rules imposed on him. And that's a frightening thing. You know, I read through the defendant's version of what happened. Um, and it starts off by indicating that he was skeptical to meet with the pre-sentence investigator because he did not receive a fair trial. And there's no reason to believe that this writer's report would be fair or impartial. You know, speaking about the trial, you know, there's a constitutional right to a trial. Every person charged with a crime has a constitutional right to a trial, and we do not in any way penalize anyone for going to trial. It's also a constitutional right to be represented by counsel. Now, you get credit for taking responsibility. You get credit for resolving a case early. You get credit um for stepping forward and saying what I did was wrong because usually this first step in rehabilitation is taking of responsibility and we didn't have that here. That's why it's important to read what his version is. So you heard him say today that he didn't commit this crime. What he said about the offense was that they met for food and drinks and they proceeded to his apartment and that's pretty much all there is to say. He said he offered no other information as to what transpired that night. He later said that he regretted he did not walk Miss Robinson to her vehicle when she left his apartment and he believed it was at that point she was abducted by an unknown asalent. Quote, "Either from the alley or from my backyard." When asked how he accounted for his presence in the area where Miss Robinson's Robinson's vehicle was set on fire, Mr. Anderson said that he was set up, he stated he was in the area to buy marijuana and quote, "And all it would have taken was for someone to know where I lived and where I'd be in the morning." unquote. He would not tell the writer when or how he made the arrangements to purchase the marijuana and then instead stated, "I plead the fifth." He then went on to point to things that um he claimed were egregious errors at the trial. He claimed that there was a video that showed the photos on the phone and that the state only played stills of the video. That wasn't the evidence at trial. Am I correct? >> Yes. >> He claims that the video the still photo that showed his hand grasping Miss Robinson's breast was part of a video and it was only a still that was shown. Incorrect. Correct. You're correct. >> Okay. He indicated that at trial it was flaunted the difference in age. And when I read that, I was somewhat shocked because I didn't really find that that was pointed out at all during trial. I mean, it was mentioned how old she was, but other than that, I didn't think that that was in any way an issue. And it barely even made it into my notes. So I thought it my point is I thought it was interesting how his view of reality seems different from what I find truly transpired and I found it at numerous points during the pre-sentence investigation. You know looking through this pre-sentence investigation his viewpoints were very inconsistent with the reality. You know, I think the first issue relative to the um mother's fiance that was credibility. You know, it sounds like he lied to law enforcement. You know, he's asked, "Have you ever been um involved in mental health treatment? Have you ever been in a mental health facility? Have you ever received treatment?" He responds in the negative, but then we have the mother indicating that he was in an out outpatient at Rogers. He indicates that he um never made aidal attempt or had an ideology of said. But then we read about in the Navy how he was dismissed from the Navy due to um a medical release which appears to be related to attempt in trying to you um and just odd things like he talks about how he purchased the home himself for $160,000 but the mother says no I told the dad to buy him the home. It just seems like he has a different view of reality than the rest of the world does. So, how do we protect society from a man who clearly has had darkness in his past, who engaged in behavior that is um it's the facts that you see written in horror novels that's what we have to determine. And you know, it isn't easy. I can tell you that when you think about is there ever something redeemable in in a person, you'd like to say at some point there is. And I can tell you that at the points in life where I've come to the conclusion that there isn't anything redeemable, you know, you do think about I think it it takes away a little piece of my soul. How come I couldn't find anything good? How come I can't find anything that I can say at some point you'll be a better person? Fore! Foreign! Foreign! Fore, you know, Shade Robinson, she was working so hard for good. She was working so hard to achieve so much. I even heard a word about how she was involved in violence or any type of attack or any type of ugliness. Wouldn't it be great if we all move forward not thinking about retaliation or revenge or hunting people, but about let's emulate that spirit and move forward trying to be kind and gracious to all. I mean, that's clearly the effect she had on the community. If we all try a little harder to step away from violence and um to be kind to each other, to communicate more, maybe our world will be a better place. Just an idea. Thanks everybody.
