A 16-year-old girl is standing in front of a room full of grieving family members in her light blue dress delivering a eulogy for her parents. For those of you who do not know me, my name is Sarah and I'm Kristen Brock's daughter and James Brock's stepdaughter. I just wanted to say goodbye to my mom and James since we never got the chance to. I was so used to you guys always being here to complete that I never once thought to imagine you would not be here. Her voice cracks as her heartbreaking words tell people to cherish every hug and every goodnight they say to each other. And when it's over, she walks around hugging everyone whispering I'm sorry over and over again. But there's one thing that the family members sitting in the front rows just could not ignore. There were no tears and just months later she would be arrested as the perpetrator for the very exact case. What exactly was she hiding behind those fake tears? February 20th, 2025, Carroll County. It was supposed to be just another one of those normal mornings. Inside a home, everything was quiet until a five-year-old girl walked into her parents' bedroom because what she saw just didn't make sense. Both of her parents were lying on the ground completely still, unresponsive. She panicked, ran out and called out for her older sister, 16-year-old Sara Grace Patrick, who was also just as grief-stricken but quickly called 911. Within minutes, first responders arrived at the scene. Inside the bedroom, they found 41-year-old Kristen Brock and her husband, 45-year-old James Jamie Brock, dead from multiple gunshot wounds. And just like that, the case was immediately classified as a double homicide. But what made the investigators confused wasn't just violence or the nature of the crime. It was actually everything other than the crime. There were no signs of forced entry, no [music] broken doors, no shattered windows, and simply no indication that anyone had forced their way inside. And most importantly, the murder weapon was nowhere in sight. To detectives, that pointed to something far more unsettling. Because now it seemed that whoever had done this didn't need to break in. They had been let inside, or worse, already lived there. Either way, it was someone who knew the house and the layout very well. But to understand how something like this could even happen, we need to go back, back to the people who lived in that home, and to the life they were living before everything changed that morning. The Brock family seemed to be the kind that no one would ever expect this to happen to. I mean, both partners, Kristen Brock and her husband James Brock, were pretty well-known in their Carroll County community. They were active in their church, deeply involved in their faith, and had successfully raised a blended family of seven children. Friends and relatives described them as loving parents who were present, engaged, and committed to their family. And then there was Sarah. Before the incident, 16-year-old Sarah Grace Patrick was just another normal teenager. She attended church regularly, had an active presence on TikTok, and was even recognized as a difference-maker in her church's youth ministry. She had graduated high school early, which was something that proved how driven, responsible, and even ahead of her peers she was. There were no clear warning signs, no history of violence, and yes, no major behavioral issues. But behind that image, the family wasn't entirely without problems. Court records from 2018 show that Sarah's biological father had raised concerns about Kristen's alleged prescription drug use. Then, in 2022, a domestic dispute between Kristen and James escalated to the point where a temporary protective order was filed after Kristen allegedly drove her car into a barn while James was inside. The order was later dropped, and the two eventually married in December 2023. However, one particular detail about Sarah did stand out. She had a deep-rooted interest in true crime. She spent hours watching documentaries, podcasts, and case breakdowns, learning how investigations worked, how evidence was analyzed, how stories unfolded. And after the incident, her behavior didn't exactly match what someone normal would expect. She returned to school quickly and seemed calm, maybe a bit too calm. But what stood out the most was what she did next. Sarah began reaching out to multiple true crime creators, encouraging all of them to cover the Brock case. Even describing it as something viewers would find super interesting. She would also just summarize the story for the creators as if it wasn't happening to her, but to a stranger. And for many [music] people, that was just hard to ignore. Another detail that stood out to the investigators came from inside the home and Sarah's account of what happened itself. Jamie had a serious heart condition and was awaiting a transplant. Because of this, he relied on a medical device that monitored his heart rate. It was a device that would trigger an alarm if something went wrong, and the alarm wasn't a quiet one. The lower his heart rate dropped, the louder and more urgent the beeping would become. According to Sarah, she didn't hear any gunshots that night, but she did say she heard that alarm. She described waking up in the middle of the night to the sound of it going off. However, despite knowing that James had such a condition, instead of checking, she assumed her mother was already there handling it and [music] went back to sleep. At the same time, neighbors later reported hearing what they believed were fireworks, something that wasn't unusual in the area, especially at night. Meaning the sound of gunshots may have gone unnoticed. But investigators couldn't ignore one thing. If Sarah heard the alarm and knew about Jamie's condition, why didn't she check up on him? And from that moment on, investigators started looking at the case differently. They later revealed that they had gathered what they described as mountains of digital and physical evidence. While much of it has not been made public, a significant portion is believed to come from Sarah's own activity in the weeks following the murders. Might have a fingerprint on them or DNA from the person who loaded that weapon and fired it or if it was a revolver and those were retained in the weapon and and disappeared. We don't know if the weapon belonged to the father or the home or it originated somewhere else, but there undoubtedly are digital trails of a lot of things that we're not aware of and and there's also forensic evidence that we're not aware of. We We don't know if there were tests like gunshot residue on Sarah's hands or if there was any blowback debris from the wounds that that these two people suffered and did that end up in clothing that was later collected that would tie her back to the actual scene versus what she was wearing when law enforcement arrived. Those kinds of things are the pieces of evidence, physical evidence, forensic evidence that I think you're going to really play out on this, not to mention the incredible boatload of digital evidence that must be available. During that time, she posted multiple emotional videos on TikTok speaking about her grief. He doesn't know it, but a year from now our family will be torn apart. I'm far away and won't see or talk [music] to him for 5 years. The videos included saying how she just wants her mommy back, but at the same time she was reaching out to the true crime creators saying how covering the case would be a really big hit. To many, that behavior felt unusual, but some still tried to defend it saying how everyone just processes grief differently. For months, the case remained a mystery, but then on July 8th, 2025, everything changed. After learning that a warrant had been issued for her arrest, Sarah Grace Patrick turned herself in to the Carroll County Sheriff's Office. We can confirm that an arrest has been made in the case. Kristin Brock's 17-year-old daughter, Sarah Grace Patrick, has been taken into custody. >> She turned herself in because we notified her she had warrants for her arrest. Considering that she didn't just immediately tell us what happened, yes. Um but who knows what's going on in a young person's mind like that? It is an open ongoing investigation. It's very possible others are involved. Just like that, the 16-year-old who had called 911 was now the primary suspect in her parents' murder. That's the rules and I've been assured they know how to do that and will accommodate all other media outlets for what you need. All right. All right. Justin, you ready? In court, the defense tells a very different story. They argue that the case against Sarah is largely circumstantial, pointing out that the murder weapon was never found. They've also challenged the way she was questioned, claiming her initial interrogation took place without a parent or lawyer present. And what makes this case even more confusing is what's missing, a motive. In many cases involving violence within families, especially ones that involve teenagers, there are usually very apparent warning signs. It could be a history of abuse, ongoing conflict, or a relationship that has been in the process of breaking down for years. But here, none of that clearly exists. There has been no confirmed history of abuse inside the home. In fact, Sarah herself denied any abuse by her stepfather. There were no reports of major conflicts, no known disputes involving relationships, and nothing that clearly explains why something this violent would happen. But the thing is, it's not like there were no clues at all, because some texts between Grace and her friends include her resentment towards her parents. And because of this hidden emotion, even within the family, opinions were deeply divided even at the court hearing. >> [music] >> Some relatives, like James' step sister, came forward and openly questioned Sarah's behavior in the days following the murders, saying Sarah should be kept behind bars. Your honor, my name is Kim Bowling and I'm Jamie's [clears throat] sister. I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to speak today. Since this tragic day, my brother Jamie, I have become their voice as they no longer have one. I would like to share how this brutal tragedy has affected the ache. I not only lost my brother, but also my sister-in-law in the most horrific horrific way imaginable. Every night, I lie awake unable to sleep haunted by the thought of what my brother Jamie and Kristen must have experienced in those final moments. When the possibility that they were awake when the defendant entered their room with a gun, >> [laughter] >> I imagine imagine their terror in their final breaths. The defendant is charged with the brutal murders of my brother Jamie and my sister-in-law while they were lying in their bed. Shot multiple times, including both shot in the head. They pointed to her calm and almost emotionally detached demeanor. Small things like how quickly she returned to normal routines and the way she interacted with others made it clear that something just didn't feel right. >> [laughter] >> My 5-year-old niece who has then woke up woke up to find their parents lifeless. The trauma this innocent child will carry for the rest of her life is unfathomable. And what makes this even more heartbreaking is that her sister loved the defendant. She looked up to her. And for reasons I will never, never understand the defendant caused such unimaginable pain. And I'm so thankful that Jaylie's life was spared. With all of this in mind, I am deeply concerned about Jaylie's safety should the defendant be released on bond. But others strongly disagreed. Her biological father and maternal grandfather have both publicly supported her, describing her as a normal teenager. If they say they have a mountain of evidence, that folder was pretty thin. That's all I will say. My daughter wouldn't hurt a fly. She'd give you the shirt off her back. She's very intelligent. She's um very beautiful. She's hardworking. You know, she just graduated. We're teaching her to drive a car. Um we're getting ready to get her driver's license. She's just your typical 17-year-old that does what 17-year-olds do. You know, she's She's like I said, she wouldn't harm nobody. She's never been in a fight in her life. She's never put her hands on anybody. You know? She's She's a good girl. Alan, how are you uh related to Sarah Grace Patrick. She's my granddaughter. And are you her maternal or paternal grandfather? >> Paternal. Maternal? And so Kristen was your daughter? Kristen was my daughter. Okay. Now Mr. Nolan, have you received I'll just get to the issue at hand. Do you believe that Sara is a danger to you or anybody else in this community? No, not at all. No. Okay. Do you believe that she is a threat to intimidate any witnesses that may be a part of this case? >> No, absolutely not. Have you ever witnessed her threaten anybody or do any harm to somebody that you know of? >> not at all. Okay. Someone they believe is completely incapable of committing such a brutal crime. She loved them. She loved them with all her heart. You know, me and Kristen we got divorced 2019. She got with James in 2018. My kids lived with her for about a year and then Kristen got in a little bit of trouble. And I went back to the courts during COVID and fought for custody and I won full custody of both of my kids and they came home with me. I went through a divorce. And after my divorce I wasn't I wouldn't say I wasn't stable. I was working and everything like that, but Kristen and James had more to provide as far as a home, school systems and stuff like that. And it was my daughter's choice to go back and live with them and I allowed it because I thought that things were getting better and we went from there. And so Sarah's been with them, I think, since 2023. Even the local pastor showed up and started how Sarah had been dedicated to her faith and even called him to pray together while she was in jail. To honorable judge, my name is Ben Bonner and I serve as lead pastor at Catalyst Church in Carrollton, Georgia. I'm writing on behalf of Sarah Grace Patrick, a young woman who's been a part of our church family for about a year now. Sarah Grace first came to Catalyst around a year ago. From the beginning, she was eager to grow in her faith and get involved. She made a personal decision to be baptized a long, excuse me, not long after attending and has stayed consistently connected to the church ever since. She didn't just show up on Sundays, she came during the week as well, asked questions, served, invited others, including her boyfriend at the time. And clearly found a place where she felt at home. Throughout the past year, and even for the challenges of this year, she has continued to attend services regularly. Some of her friends also gave their statements stating normal teenage activities like sleepovers and shopping sprees. My name is Caitlyn Jensen. Um how old are you? I'm 16 years old. And are you and Sarah friends, Miss Bell? And when you say friends, talk to me about what that looks like. Are you guys talking on the phone, on We uh Snapchat sometimes. We would call, I'd check in on her. I was never allowed over at her house. But she was allowed at your house. Yes, ma'am. I'd go and get her. Um when you guys keep in touch, what sort of things do you do? Well, usually I'd go and get her and then we'd go to the gas station, get something to eat. It's an hour 30 drive back home, so we'd blast music like teenagers would do, going home. And we'd go home and I have a 2-year-old son and we would play with him for hours until he fell asleep. Were you in contact with Sara after the incident happened? Yes, ma'am. And did you have any concerns about um Sara leaving or running or trying to get away anyway? No. Okay. Um when was the last time that um the defendant was in Alabama at your house? I really don't remember the date. It was the day I took her She said she may get her phone back and I took her that day and then I took her to Wedowee. We're going to have a sleepover and then we got the phone call that she needed to come back home. If I were to tell you that she was arrested July 9th, would you say sometime in the days just before that? July July 8th. July 8th. Yes, sir. At one point, supporters even showed up at a bond hearing wearing shirts that read, "We stand with Sara." So, while investigators did claim that they have overwhelming evidence, not everyone is convinced and legally, the case is still far from over. Sara Grace Patrick's trial was originally scheduled to begin on January 5th, 2026, but that date didn't hold. The trial was then postponed to August 3rd, 2026 with the court granting additional time for the defense to complete a forensic neuropsychology report. A detailed evaluation that could play a major role in how the case is argued. In the meantime, Sara remains in custody. Since her arrest in July 2025, she has reportedly been held in solitary confinement largely due to her age at the time of the alleged crime. And as the months have passed, a single question continues to come up in the court, should she be granted bond? So far, the answer has been no. In a recent hearing, Judge Dustin W. Hightower once again denied bond stating that there had been no significant change in circumstances since the previous decision. According to prosecutors, Sara still poses a serious flight risk. They point to the severity of the charges, which include malice murder, felony murder, and aggravated assault, and argue that if released, she could attempt to flee, especially since family members and associates may have access to residences outside the state of Georgia. I ask you, please please consider the following factors when deciding whether to grant a bond. My first concern is flight risk. The defendant has financial resources provided by the immediate family, which would enable her to flee. Her family maintains that she is innocent. And given her manipulative behavior behavior, I believe she may attempt to flee. Second concern concern is witness intimidation. The defendant has shown a pattern of intimidation towards family members and others with knowledge of the crime. I fear that if she's released, she will continue this behavior behavior to silence anyone who could testify against her. My third concern is evidence. The brutality of these murders is not in dispute. My family and I have seen the death certificates, and although we are not aware aware of exactly how many shots were fired, we do know that there were multiple gunshots to both Jamie and Kristen. Personal safety. If the defendant can kill her own parents in such a violent violent manner, I fear for my own safety and the safety of my family and friends. The possibility that she could harm us is terrifying, and They also raise concerns about the growing attention surrounding the case. With increasing media coverage and even the possibility of future media deals involving the family, prosecutors argued that the pressure, attention, and potential financial incentives could give Sarah even more reason to leave. The Brock family has also addressed the court directly. They described the alleged violence as something that cannot be overstated, expressing fear and anxiety at the thought of Sarah being released. For them, this isn't just a legal case. It's personal. But, the defense pushed back. They proposed strict conditions for release, some of which included no contact with family members, no access to a cell phone, and heavy supervision. But, even with those measures in place, the judge wasn't convinced. He ruled that those restrictions wouldn't be enough to reduce the risks, and that the concerns raised by the prosecution still stood. So, for now, Sarah remains behind bars. If I weigh these witnesses' testimonies and I weigh what I hear today, um I believe those closest uh and I say closest uh in in family relationship expressed that they had vast concerns that she would have the ability to flee, uh that she would be a danger to the community, uh that she would be a danger to them, uh and that she would be uh pose a significant risk of intimidating, or actually I think the state steered away from intimidating or influencing or manipulating witnesses. By finding that, I find the state has met their burden today by preponderance of the evidence. And Miss um Miss Patrick, um because of that, I'm bound by the law, and I do not believe that you will be a proper candidate for bond at this time. And as the case moves toward its new trial date in August, more details are expected to come out, especially regarding the evidence prosecutors claim to have, much of which still hasn't been fully revealed to the public. Which brings us back to where this case began, a quiet home with the sun rising and two parents who were found shot in their own bedroom, and a 16-year-old girl who at first seemed like just another grieving daughter, but now stands accused of their murder. It doesn't mean he didn't like our little family and he didn't give us help all the time. I know he wouldn't have done it. Please bear with me cuz I stutter a lot. I just wanted to say goodbye to my momma and Jamie since we never got the chance to. I was so used to you guys always being here to complain that I never once thought that you would not be here. And then I didn't have a single clue of how much I needed y'all until now. For James, thank you for all the life lessons you taught me and for being the best bonus dad ever. Your heart will finally be healed in heaven and neither of y'all will be in any pain anymore. Although that gives me so much comfort, your life is not supposed to end that way. And for my mother, everything we went through does not define what kind of person or what kind of mother you were. You were a beautiful, kind soul with so much gratitude and so gosh dang strong. And you taught me so many life lessons and so many just recently taught me in the same letter you sent to James in 2018. When I first read it, I almost cried and I got chills bumps. But every single time I read it, it puts me in a lot of peace. Knowing that everything happens for a reason, I can choose to let it define me, confine me, redefine me, outshine me, or I can choose to move on and leave it behind me. Always, Kristin Brock. Glad that they will save a seat for me in heaven like they'd save a seat for me in this very church. Although there's nothing we can do to bring them back, we still have control over how we treat people with us today. Therefore, when someone tries to tell you anything, no matter how important it could be, just listen because you never know what somebody's telling But, what do you think? Was this a carefully planned act hidden behind normal behavior, or is there something about this case that still hasn't been fully understood?
