Did you like him? And that's okay. >> I did. >> My son's attracted to boys and I'm okay with that. And one of my daughters is attracted to to women. >> I don't know what you're talking about. This is crazy, bro. >> It started as a normal conversation online. There was [snorts] nothing unusual, nothing threatening. For 6 months, Telon Man believed he was talking to someone real and someone he trusted enough to meet alone. But when he arrived that night, something felt off because the person he'd been speaking to wasn't there and instead someone else was waiting for him to show up. And minutes later, Telon would be multiple times all over a rumor that spiraled out of control. June 23rd, 2022. It was around 2:00 a.m. when officers in Daytona Beach responded to reports of gunfire near Oak Tree Circle close to Forest Glen Boulevard. By the time they arrived, they found Telon Man lying on the sidewalk and he had been shot multiple times. Despite efforts to save him, Telon was pronounced dead at 2:09 a.m. at the scene. From that moment, the investigation moved quickly. Officers secured the area while detectives began going through nearby homes searching for anything that could explain what had just happened. They collected surveillance footage from surrounding streets piecing together movements in the minutes leading up to the shooting and things started to fall into place immediately. Cameras captured a figure approaching the area shortly before the gunfire then running away moments after. But the most important piece of evidence came from Telon's phone after it was searched through. Inside, investigators found over 170 Instagram messages between him and someone he had been speaking to for months. However, the problem was that the account wasn't real. It had been carefully created to lure him to that exact location. By tracing the account and aligning it with the surveillance timeline, detectives identified the suspect, 19-year-old Jacari Webb. He was located, taken into custody, and brought in for questioning. But it wasn't Jacari's first visit because he was already on felony probation for the possession of a firearm. >> You don't have nothing on you as you can slide down for me. All right. You don't have nothing that's going to poke me, stick me, stab me, nothing like that, right? >> No. >> Okay. Pull your pants up for me quick. You got anything in your pocket? >> Only trash. >> Spread your feet for me. Slide down again for me. >> [bell] >> All right. Go ahead and have a seat right here. And there you go. My partner will be in in a minute to talk to you. >> All right. >> All right. Do you know what it's about? He'll let you know. He got you. He good people. >> But before that night, who really was Telan Man? And how did a life that seemed so normal end in something so tragic? Even at his young age as a 19-year-old, Telan was openly gay and fully himself, which was something his friends and family admired about him. He was known for being kind, approachable, and someone who made connections easily. According to his sister, Tikija Man, he had always been that way. She described him as someone who was always helpful, always kind, and always made friends easily. Even as a child, she said he was just a ball of joy with the most contagious laugh. That's how people remembered him, warm, genuine, and full of life. There were no signs of conflict, no known enemies, nothing that would explain why someone would target him. But for nearly 6 months, Telan had been speaking to someone online, someone he believed was a basketball player. The conversations were consistent, detailed, and personal. Messages were exchanged and trust was built. Eventually, that connection led to one decision, to meet in person. But what Telan didn't know was that the person behind those messages wasn't who they claimed to be. The account was fake and the person behind it had been planning this moment all along. When Jakari Webb was brought in for questioning, he didn't immediately admit to anything. >> How are you? >> I'm all right. >> Sorry for the inconvenience, all right? Trying to figure some [ __ ] out, you know what I mean? My name is Joey Rosas, all right? I'm a detective with Daytona. I'm going to give you my card, all right? So you don't forget my name. >> I'm going to try to do what I did. >> No. That's why we were trying to figure some stuff out. Here's my Just call me Joey, okay? And um I know that one of the main things you you first was worried about is is we learned that you're on probation. I ain't worried about Listen to me, I ain't worried about your your your probation, okay? I'm not here to VOP VOP you. All right. So, but going through the stipulations of your of your probation, you're supposed to cooperate with law enforcement. And there's some stuff that I want to go over with you, okay? Cuz right now you being they they charged you with resisting arrest. >> No, they didn't say they wanted to do that. >> Because right? That's what we're figuring out now cuz I guess you ran. >> Yeah. >> Okay, all right. We're going to figure that out, all right? Um let me get some basic information from you. What's your first name? >> Jakari, j a k a r >> j >> a k a r i >> He kept mumbling that he didn't do anything and didn't know why he was there for questioning in the first place. >> Yeah. >> Right. >> Man, how the hell did you get up in here? >> Man, I was at I was on guard. I literally finna go home. I didn't know what was going on, so I seen the truck come. >> All right. >> Scared the [ __ ] out of me. I didn't know what to do, so I ran. >> Well, listen. I'm I'm going to talk to you about this this resisting arrest the running, you know what I mean? Cuz that's the main thing and other than that well the VOP I'm not to concerned about. >> We cool? >> Yes, sir. >> All right. >> All right. >> But obviously since you're in custody I got to read you your rights, you understand that? >> Yeah. >> You have the right to remain silent, anything you say may be used as evidence against you. You have the right to talk to an attorney and have him or her with you now or at any time during questioning. And if any point you wish to stop talking and have an attorney present all questioning will be stopped at your request. It's on you. You understand your rights? Okay. That in mind, you willing to talk to me about this all right? About running? All right. Why did you So talk to me Talk to me, is that a yes? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Do you Did you When you saw the police what did you think immediately? >> All right, what the Cuz I just seen this big ass truck come. And then he had He just had the stick out already. We all literally We all was scared for we never been through nothing like that. So but I just ran cuz I was like what the [ __ ] I was just scared. Like I ain't never been in a situation like that. You know what I mean? In trouble or nothing. It ain't no more probation. I was scared so I just ran around the house. I just locked literally walked out of the house actually. And then that's when y'all then that's when they came then I ran around the house then they was on the back street so they said stop and get on the ground. So I stopped and got on the ground. Dude came and jumped on me. >> Mhm. >> So I don't know how I got out of that. >> Okay. All right. So So that's why you ran? >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right. >> I was just scared. >> You were just scared? >> Hell yeah. >> Okay. >> And when he finally did speak he tried to control the narrative. At first Jakari told detectives that he had spent the night at his friend RJ's house on Garden Street claiming he stayed there playing basketball and watching TV until late. >> Do you get Do you have any nicknames? >> Yeah, Jakari. >> Jakari? Jakari? I want to talk to you about um Thursday. Wednesday night, last Wednesday night. I want to talk to you about that night, right? When confronted with this, his story began to shift. >> Did you use any Did you travel by any bicycle on on Wednesday? >> No. >> No? Okay. All right. Watching young young young men and women destroy their life over bad decisions, over bad choices. >> Bro, I didn't do >> No, Jacari. I know >> I know exactly what you mean. Bro, what I did? I see I saw you I saw you on Campbell, Campbell Middle School. I saw you. I saw you I saw you at Forest Glen. I saw it all. >> Forest Glen? >> Yeah. >> I don't know what I did. I don't know. Come on. >> You don't? >> I ran the bike through there. >> Hey. >> It's nothing. >> Hey. I can't convince anyone that it was an accident. Right now right now, it's going based on you being dishonest. I've got video. I've got it all. The whole thing was captured on video. Every bit of this. What? Jacari. >> I'm here for running, bro. I don't know what you're talking about. This is crazy, bro. His timeline didn't match the footage, and the gaps in his story became harder to ignore. Then detectives introduced the digital evidence. They showed him the Instagram messages between him and Tellen Mann. Messages sent from a fake account, and told him that they knew about this already. So there was no use hiding anything. At that point, Jakari admitted to running the account, but insisted it didn't mean anything. He denied any real intent behind it, even as the messages suggested otherwise. And then came his explanation for the shooting, which was more like an excuse. Jakari claimed it was self-defense, and that Tellen had approached him with a knife, forcing him to react. Jakari, Jakari, look at me. Respect me enough to look at me like I do you. Please. Hey. Just tell me why. Why? Why? Why? Did he attack you? Did he attack you? What is your story? I know it's scary right now, but don't be scared. I'm here with you. I need to know your side. I'm here to help you. I need to know your side. Did he attack you? He's a violent person. Did he attack you? Stop. I know you're scared, but don't be. I'm here to help you, but I I have I know everything. I just want to know why. What happened? We're past that. We're past that. Jakari. What the He stabbed you? How? He had a knife? So, you're protecting yourself? >> Yes. >> Okay. Why did y'all meet up? >> Cuz he wanted to see me. >> He wanted to see you? Okay. All right. Did you have a relationship with him? >> No, not like that. >> What type of relationship was it? >> He was like a friend. We went >> Was he trying to get too close to you or something? >> Yeah, and I ain't with that. >> And then what was the conversation when you met him, when you saw him that night? >> He said what up and [ __ ] like that and then >> He said what? I can't >> I was like what up and then he was like what up and [ __ ] like that and then he tried to stab me. >> And then he tried to stab you? And then what did you do then? >> But there was a plain problem. No knife was ever found at the scene and forensic evidence showed that multiple shots had been fired from a distance contradicting even the idea of any kind of close-range struggle. >> All right, I had to talk to my wife, tell her I got a lot of paperwork to do. I told you I'm not going to lie with you. All right, and I'm going to document the fact that he attacked you. Okay? But I need to know where's the gun at. >> I don't know where I threw it. >> Hey, I need to know so at least we have that so it it shows that you're being 100% honest with me. >> Yeah, I got to go find it. >> Where'd you throw it? >> There. >> I know you went up the trail and went up the path >> Yeah. >> to Shady? >> Yeah. I threw it by the garden. >> By garden? >> No, no, I didn't throw it by the garden. I threw it No, I didn't throw it there. No, I didn't throw it by the garden, no. I can I can find it, though. I can go find it. But Shady didn't even find it. >> Where at, though? Cuz this is going to show good faith that you were protecting yourself because we know of his violent history. You know what I mean? We're We're very much aware of this. So, where exactly did you go? >> I don't know my house. Um where did I go? >> Try to think, man.
