Oh, that that ch it's just going to bite that hole. See, this whole pole is holding it up and then that side the hinges come up and down. We have to break the whole thing off there. >> Hey, just make it come my left arm. Left arm. GET ME OUT MY LEG. WELCOME BACK TO THE channel everybody where two cops break down your favorite body cam video. This video is coming from Midwest Safety and it's titled Evil Gunman Ambushes Three Cops Point Blank. We haven't seen this yet. Let's watch it. >> As officers across PBLO, Colorado deal with various separate cases. One incident causes them to drop everything. Officer Valdez had just pulled up to a man named Billy Sodto. Billy is wanted on several warrants for failing to appear in court for several drug dealing charges with fentinel, multiple counts of aggravated motor vehicle theft, weapons violations, and broken protection orders. Before Officer Valdez is even able to assess what is going on, the unthinkable happens. [music] That is absolutely wild. I don't know what I would do in that situation, but if you look at the way this guy is responding, I mean, it looks like he almost has some type of milit training. He's firing and he's actively backing up and he actually has really good tactics when it comes to the movement. >> During the shooting, another officer was behind Valdez's cruiser. That dude's like, I'm out. >> We got to go. >> We got to go, sir. After shooting at Officer Valdez 27 times with a rifle, Billy flees down the sidewalk before turning left into the neighborhood. Unfortunately, Valdez is only the first of several officers who will be hospitalized by Billy. >> Hey, sir. Let's go. >> Go, go, go, go. >> 33 have been shot. >> Oh, no. >> 33. I've been shot. >> Damn. At least he's alive. >> Get out of here. We have say he's in the alleyway right now. >> Gardner. Yes. Where am I shot? I don't know. I don't know. I'm looking. I'm looking. I'm looking. Where are you? Do you feel any pain? >> No. I'm just numb. >> 32. Officer is numb. He doesn't know where you're shot. I got a lot of blood. I can't find the bull hole. I'm looking. I'm looking. >> You're shot in the head. You're shot in the head. >> All right. No pressure. We're just off of Mesa Army. I got CLS back. >> Maybe I would have told him. >> I just need your help. Just help me out. Okay. I got you there. >> Boom. Got it. Talk to me. Come on. Talk to me. >> I'm good. I'm good. >> Are you dizzy? >> Hold on. Did he say that he was shot in the head? That's what he said. >> And he's going numb. Thankfully, that there's a military medic there that seems to be doing some help. But Daw being shot in the head, being numb. Oh man. >> 27 times. That dude's lucky. >> Okay. At 32, if you guys can start looking for the guy, we got enough over here without Valdez. I just need people going looking for him right now. >> All right, brother. I'm just going to wrap your head. Okay. >> Okay. I could feel all my lamas. My head's just numb. And I got tingling in my head. >> Been a minute. I'm sorry, man. You're good. >> Been out a few years. So, >> I just don't call my wife. >> Scary. Just get there safely. >> Officer Lions is a recruit in training and has only been on the job for a few months. This incident will certainly test their limits. >> Sound like a rifle. >> Yes. >> Very lucky, man. >> Sarah. Okay, here he is. Here's your Here he is. Here you go, Sarah. >> Where at? >> I'm No. >> Are you okay? Where'd you get shot at? >> I don't know. Poor >> wife. Where? >> I don't know. >> Oh my god. It's okay. >> Oh, my head's starting to burn. I'm going to stand you up and get you on the cod. Okay. >> In a situation like this, cops been shot, dudes on the run. That's a huge perimeter that needs to be set up immediately. All hands on deck on this one. >> Hey, go inside now. One guy going in the truck right now. >> Do you want me to? >> No, you're good. >> So, remember that female officer's only been on the job for a couple months. >> Please. All right, man. So, we're going to be doing a bunch of stuff real fast. How you feeling? >> Oh, my head's hurting. >> I get shot, man. Dang it, guys. I just got this. We >> got grays or something. >> Okay, we're staged here at Mason Pine. Turn left. Okay. >> All right. So, you could see that they're not really sure where this gunman is right now. And you could see they're setting up basically a 360 to protect each other's backs cuz they have not been able to confirm where this is at. I've been on a call where we've actually had to do this. And it is absolutely incredibly terrifying not knowing where the suspect is. And you're just hoping that you're protecting your partner's back. out of here walking down over here with black jacket. >> HEY, SHOW ME YOUR HANDS. WHAT was this guy supposed to be wearing again? >> Black over black. I think >> they need to lock that. That was good movement on that that female's part. Man, they need to lock that entire area down. >> Hey Frank, keep an eye on a royal between pine and spruce. I think he went down that alley. >> Ma'am, I cannot talk. Well, I saw that said you guys were on my door, I think. So, I didn't know if my house. >> Okay. So, there was a male that we saw when I first got up here that went north up the alley wearing a black coat, tan pants, and white shoes. You guys hold that alley. I'm going to need some more units then to come over to Cedar and Mesa with me. Try to keep this predator locked down. >> So, he's down there. >> Well, the alley between Cedar. So, Cedar's that way. Black jacket, black mask, 10 lbs, white shoes. >> Go inside, guys. Go inside. >> Yeah. of seen right there. >> How long ago was that? >> Super good info. >> Witness come up say he went south. So we just hold our perimeters on northern and a royal. >> What did you guys get hit? >> Did you see anybody running through here with khaki pants, white shoes, and a black jacket? >> I'll check the camera. >> We're busy right now. Just keep driving. Tom, do we have anything yet? >> That never fails. Go the other way. >> GO THE OTHER WAY. Turn around. >> Just keep an eye out. He doesn't come around that corner shoot. >> Yeah, keep your eye on that's your area of responsibility. >> You guys can just go back in your house right now. Thank you. >> That's all right. Please go back inside your house. I'm not sure right now. Let's hold our perimeter. Once we get the SO dog here, we'll start a track. >> Jesus. Just go sit in that car. Okay, you're good. You didn't do anything wrong, man. We have two casings right here. But you could just hang out. That's his backpack. Those are casings. I'm going to go grab combs. >> Three casings. >> So, that cop that says he feels really bad, he feels like he says he feels like [ __ ] That's the guy that was behind the cop that got shot and he turns his patrol car around. I I don't know. Like, I necessarily don't think that he should have turned his vehicle around like that and then now he exposes himself. But he lost sight of that guy. The gunman was focused on his partner that he was shooting at. He did have an opportunity to at least engage the suspect or if not drive his car and run that freaking dude over. So that's probably why he feels like [ __ ] >> There's a whole bunch. >> Hey, go the other way. Turn around. >> He's conscious that he shot inside his head. Somewhat walking to the cop, but they were definitely supporting him. Where did the people last? He was seen on pine in the 1200 block. Then Sunny got information that he was in this block of cedar at a blue house on the northwest side of the street. Let me go throw on my jacket. Just watch that street. >> Do they have drones up or anything? >> Nope. >> There's a good chance it's probably at that 1221 pine. Let me work on that. The dog's coming. >> Can we recover the rifle? >> No. >> HEY, GO THE OTHER WAY. GO THE OTHER WAY NOW. >> THAT SUCKS. THAT'S LIKE a major intersection. >> Yeah. While some responding officers are now equipped with heavy rifle protective armor, the initial patrol officers, like lions, have not had time to gear up. >> Watch each others on the alleys. We just need to get every alley shut down. >> You can't come this way. >> Hey, turn around. Turn around. >> So, I'm getting a dog over here now. We'll just try to start a track and let's do it. >> We need to be real eyes open. >> All right. So on I kind of Okay, so it sounds to me like they're getting a K-9 on scene, which is great, but then they're going to start doing a track for this guy after he's armed with a rifle, they don't know where he's at, and he's shot a cop multiple times. I don't think that's something a patrol team should be doing. That is absolutely should be a SWAT thing. And if you're going to use a dog, fine. I'm a former canine handler. I'm okay with that. But I'm not okay with patrol guys going and looking for this guy. >> Yeah, it seems very rushed. Everybody's working very fast to get this person where it seems to make more sense to hold your perimeter, call in additional resources. Officers with more body armor and armored vehicles. >> Yeah, to me this is all hands- on deck. M multiple SWAT teams should be out here searching for this guy, but I don't know. We'll see how they do this. >> 1221. >> We're thinking he should hopefully be in this perimeter. K9 just showed up. We're going to start trying to track now and we'll keep you guys updated. He was over there when he fired rounds. His backpack's over there on the ground. So if you want to try to get a scent off of that. Okay. >> You got some fast healthy guys. >> Yeah, >> cuz when he goes, he goes. Two more dogs. >> I don't like that either. >> City, guys. Nobody. >> Totally. Everything's fast. >> You're going to have to go that way. >> Get out of here now. >> That happens all the time. >> Pull over that city cuz it circled back. >> I'm 23. 5 seconds. >> One thing I just noticed on that is that officer is pretty keen eye and notices that there's a taxi cab that keeps circling the block. That is a tactic that suspects use often is sometimes they'll order Ubers or call their friends and hide. And you'll see the same car circling because they're trying to make the timing where the suspect could come out, jump in that car and take off. So awesome spot by that officer. They need to keep an eye on that cab or put an officer right next to that cab and see if you can draw that suspect out. >> Call baby mama. Go back inside. >> He's not anything down there for >> you to be outside right now. Go inside. >> We're going to start at the dog track. The dog's here. He's going to go break the dog real quick. There's a backpack over here. I don't know if they returned fire. >> As they rolled up, he ambushed and just started shooting at them. >> Hit or >> No, Gardner hasn't been hit. Mononttoyo took him down to the station. He's obviously extremely shook up over this. T10, we got the dog out. We're going to start our track. >> Right here. He ran and was last seen going that way from what a witness says, but then we got reports of different locations. >> I hope he's okay. >> Yeah. I don't know where he got shot at, but it was with a rifle, which is the worst thing to get shot with. >> He got shot in the head. >> In where? >> The head. >> The head. >> How you doing? >> I got to get my flashlight after this car. >> How's it going, brother? Hold up. kids. >> It's not really a time to be joking around. Like, get out of there, dude. Get those kids out of there. >> Had an officer that just got shot. Okay, I'm going to get my flashlight. >> They have a house they're going to check and they're going to start pushing our way. What do we have in between us and them? >> Nobody. >> In my experience, they never find anybody. So, >> in mine, it only found one person. And then the other time, it took 3 hours to find this guy in a swamp. I feel like it depends what dog they have. >> This is 12:21, right? >> Yeah. [ __ ] [ __ ] about the canines, dude. >> That's [ __ ] [laughter] up. >> And this wind, I'm sure, doesn't help. >> This is This is crazy that these guys are doing this. >> Can you kick it? >> No, that chain and it's just going to be fighting that pole. >> See, this whole pole is holding it. And then that side, the hinges go up and down. >> We'd have to break kick the whole THING OFF THERE. >> [screaming] >> THAT WAS MY GUNSHOTS. >> HEY, just maintain. Just make it where it comes. My left arm. >> Left arm. Get me out my leg. >> Is he getting bit by a dog? >> No. He's been shot multiple times. >> He's been shot. >> Turn around. Turn around. >> There's a suspect. >> He's running east. RUNNING EAST. ALL RIGHT. [clears throat] That's exactly why I was saying I don't like the idea of these patrol cops searching for this bad guy with that canine. I mean, the dog should have alerted to that guy on the other side of the fence. It looked like he was on the other side of the fence in that backyard. Um, they didn't know that and they were trying to figure out how to get into the fence to then, I'm assuming, track with that dog. I don't know if this is a bite dog. I don't I have no idea. But in theory, the dog should have alerted. Okay, but this is why I say like this is should have been a SWAT thing. You should have had tactical guys out there with better body armor. That guy's armed with a rifle. And then look, now this other cop just gets shot. Now this dude just like breaks their perimeter. He's running across the street. Now these other two officers, that one chick is on like a brand new cop. They're now giving chase to this dude. And now they're going to have to adjust their perimeter and now relocate this guy again. We need more units over here now. Get someone here now. >> Get this motherucker. >> Get someone here now. >> Duno, you got to help me. >> My right leg is shot. My right leg is shot. >> Okay, hold on. Hold on. >> Right leg is shot. Switch. I need to hurry. Come on. >> [screaming] >> MAN, >> OUT of here. Get that >> over here. >> Pink house made a block. That's where he is. Stay inside. >> UP THERE. UP THERE. UP THERE. >> Up there to the right >> between Mesa. He ran this way. There's so many cars. I I can't tell. STAY IN YOUR HOUSE. NO, it's not. STAY IN YOUR HOUSE. Why are they chasing actively chasing him? >> Stay inside. >> He's on the roof in the back. >> On the roof in the back. >> We got a shield. >> No. >> 1200 block of pine is where the shooter is on top of a roof. >> I mean, good for her. >> This house is a twotory and it looks like a porch. That's the back on a single level. So, we could either have higher ground or not. >> You have a detach. >> She's at least putting out information. >> We have anything that's east of us. Go ahead and just be ready in case he runs towards you. So, any of the drones units that come up, I need you to just set up and just be ready. >> K9's tracking him right now through the alley. >> So, just says that they're tracking him through the alley right now. I don't know if that means he's on. There's a shooter. >> Where's the dog at? >> K9, is there any way you can send your dog just to clear this part area so we can move forward? Can you just send them in? No. >> Hey, I'm moving in. Watch that side over there. >> All right. You guys heard him say like, "Can you send the dog in?" Yeah, you can do that. But that would almost be potentially a suicide mission for the dog. you're asking the dog to go search an area for a guy that's armed with a rifle. He's going to shoot and kill the dog. There's a better way, a more systematic way to search for this individual than what these officers are doing. And hats off to them. Like that takes a lot of courage to to go out and do what they're doing. Clearly, uh that just highlights the dangers of this job. But if in terms of uh being safe about it, I mean there are there are several other ways they could be going about this that is going to be much more effective, efficient, and safe. So, I'm really curious how this plays out. Sorry. I know you're here. Hey, get on my back. All right. Make sure nobody shoots me from the left. >> I got you. I'm going to scoot up on you. >> All right. Stand by. Get them covered and hold the side. >> Is he off the roof? >> I don't know. >> Other officers coming to the call. Just be advised he could be on the roof as well next to 1222 on Pine. >> He's wearing a white t-shirt now. >> Okay. Wait it out. Wait it out. We got drones coming out. Hey, brother. I need you to come over here and call back. >> Why are they already there? I need you guys to cover me from up here. I need to make sure that is covered. >> I just put the ladder there. >> I'm not going to tell me he's going up. Don't go up that ladder. >> Holy [ __ ] >> No, dude. >> Okay, the body came. >> The room is clear. >> To all units, we cleared the room. He is going eastbound. He's not in this backyard or on the roof. Okay. Yeah, sorry. That was really scary. >> The fence still going east. >> Turn that way. Right. >> I just got to pause it right here and just talk this through because this is really, really hard to watch. These officers are moving so fast. They're actively trying to pursue somebody. They don't know where he's at and he's still armed with the rifle and he's shot two cops already and they're still doing the same thing. This is absolutely when the discipline comes in and you set and hold that perimeter. They have access to drones. They're waiting on it and they have canines. So, just hold the perimeter. Pause. Gather your thoughts. You can hear these officers clearly stating how they're actually scared. They're holding each other's back and sides cuz they don't know where the suspect is at. Set that perimeter. Hold it. Get additional units and use that drone in the use of a canine when things start to slow down. Got to maintain order first. It's just absolute chaos. And if you're a dog handler or canine handler, SWAT person watching this, let us know in the comments if you would have sent your dog in or if you as a patrol guy would be searching for this individual or would you wait for SWAT? Somebody in that alley. Then he bushed. I saw him. He ran real quick through this yard. There was like six mods. Brian, >> did you see him in a white shirt? He ran really fast. Last time he had on the 10 pants and the white shoes. I couldn't tell his shirt. >> No. Somebody said that he took his jacket off. Now he's in a white shirt. >> All units, let's just stand by and just wait for the drone. 100 to the drone units. Did you see my flashlight going up in the sky? after he already went up on the roof. >> [ __ ] he got another one. >> Just snip off for the west right here. >> Hey, get with him. He's hit >> on me. On me. >> He's on the roof. He's on the roof. Get your hands weapon. >> [ __ ] that, dude. He ain't showing you his hands. Shoot him. She's scary. Don't move. DO NOT MOVE. Everybody keeps running. >> Do not move. Be right here. >> Do not move. >> Cross your hands. >> Right here. Right here on the roof. SHOW ME YOUR HAND. WHAT ARE YOU DOING NOW? >> BLUE. BLUE. BLUE. BLUE. BLUE. BLUE. >> This lady is very good at communication. >> Blue. Show me your hands. >> Where? He's right here on the roof. >> I might be too by the way. >> I don't know. >> Might be hitting four people. Coming this way. >> Okay. I just looked over there. There's a bunch of them over there trying to get him off the roof. He still has his gun, but he's not moving as of right now. >> Why did she just I'm Why did she run back to the cars? >> Have her sit back. >> Come here. Come on. >> Take a press. I'm sorry. >> No, you're okay. Holster your gun. He does not have his hands on it. >> Looks like he might be shot. That's why I was just scared because I don't have a rifle. Yeah. >> Totally understand. >> Yeah. Weird. It's okay. >> I shot him. So good. >> Not really. I don't know. Not a time to cry. >> We're done working and then we'll go with you. Okay. >> Okay. >> I appreciate it. >> He went bang pretty. I got shot. Maldo was a trooper, dude. He was like, "Get away from me. Shot my jeep. I'm fine. >> I have a recruit and I don't know where she is. I think she's We'll find her. Okay. >> Who is it? >> Oh, the Lions. >> I know a lot of happened tonight. Okay. >> Yeah. >> And we were just right there. >> Okay. I'm going to pause it. Uh. >> Okay. You're okay. >> Right here. Right there. You did a great job. All right. >> I was trying to I didn't want people to think I was scared. I was just trying to tell people to stay inside. >> This is scary. Okay. After all this is over with, we'll sit down and talk. Okay. >> You did good. >> You did good. >> Thank you. Oh, thank you, Jesus. >> Okay. Hey, I'm going to pause right here and just take this opportunity to mention some of this stuff because this is a really good insight that the general public doesn't really get a lot of is what cops actually talk about during a critical incident on perimeters exactly like this. These officers are clearly discussing what happened. The one is incredibly terrified. The other one's trying to like consult with them, talk with them, get them through it, but also like manage the situation. They even said like, "Hey, holster your gun. Like take a deep breath." They're trying to make sure that officer is composed. This is where like emotional intelligence comes into play is controlling yourself in that situation because now what's happening is there's people that are going through trauma and that starting to express that. Now other officers are having to manage those people which takes their attention away from the actual scene. A lot going on and a very good insight of what cops do and talk about during a critical incident just like this. >> Hello. >> I'm okay. I'm in a car but there was a shooting. I didn't shoot anyone. I guess I'm kind of freaking out. I can't be on the phone long, but I just want to let you know that I'm okay. Okay. >> Hey. >> Yeah, >> it's okay. >> I think he got shot in the head and he had a rifle. The officers are coming to talk to me, so I have to go. Okay. >> Well, look, whatever happens, you make sure you come home and that person doesn't. Okay. >> Okay. I love you. >> Give her her husband. Yeah, >> keep me updated. >> She's terrified. >> Awake? >> Yeah, I called him. Okay. You okay? >> Yeah. That was terrifying. Was he shooting first? >> Yeah. >> Julia, two officers just got shot. I think three might be a three shot. He just killed him. So, I need you to stay. >> Hey, Dad. I was just in a shooting. He shot I think two or three officers. And I'm just >> He's calling her dad now. >> Like, I thought I was going to die and I didn't want people to think that I was like not being strong. I was trying to pray. He was on the roof shooting over us. I needed to call you cuz I know you would know what it feels like. I heard Jesus told me to run because if I would have stayed, I would have gotten shot. >> From what I know, everyone's okay except for the bad guy. >> This is my final week of PTO. >> First cop job, though. >> Yeah. >> There's a guy that's been doing it for 10 years. Just reach out. All right. >> Okay. >> I want you to go home and think everything's fine and then tonight start thinking about it all over again. >> I'm getting a rifle plated vest now. Now >> that that was why I was so scared, too. I was like, I'm literally home. Okay, >> real quick. So, I mean, we've both been in multiple offer involved shootings and have been around things like this and it it really is incredibly terrifying. Um, so for her to be sitting there in the car, clearly she's losing it. she's calling her loved ones and stuff. You know, I I I think when you're involved in something like that, especially for the first time, it really does bring home what the job really is about and and it sometimes it really is life and death. And she just experienced that. So, >> she's very very shaken up. >> Yeah. And with body cameras, social media, people on the phones, calling people in neighborhoods, it almost in a way forces cops to make these phone calls to their loved ones sooner than you normally would have done that because their loved ones may know something is going on and they're going to start getting scared. So, I almost think in a way that they're making these phone calls to say like, "Hey, I'm okay. I was involved in this incident, but I'm okay and it's not me." But >> I think she was looking for comfort as well. >> Yeah. Yeah, that's a good point. >> From her husband and and her dad. So, sounds like maybe her dad was in law enforcement. >> Billy Sodto was pronounced deceased. He shot roughly 80 armor-piercing rifle rounds at officers. Two of the three officers that were shot sustained gunfire to their head. Miraculously, all three officers who were struck survived. Captain Maldonado was the first to be released 2 days after the shooting. Officer Valdez was hospitalized for 4 days and Sergeant O'Hare remained longer due to the extent of his injuries. Reports indicate as of 6 months after the shooting, only one of the three officers returned to full duty. Outrage grew not only among the public, but within the PBLO Police Department itself as questions arose over why Billy wasn't already behind bars. In a Facebook post shared more than 23,000 times, PBlo Police Chief Chris Noeller said Billy was a self-proclaimed gang member wanted for attempted murder with a firearm. Billy had 14 felony arrests and was out on bond for three separate felony cases, including one incident where he reportedly shot someone. The Post blamed soft on crime laws for allowing him to ambush officers. Chief Noeler does not mince words. The blood of my officers lays at the steps of our capital. They do nothing but cuddle criminals and let them loose back into our community. They don't suffer the consequences of their policies. While no specific bail reform legislation is called out in the Facebook post, Chief Noeler is likely referring to a broad shift in Colorado law that focuses on faster bail hearings, shorter pre-trial confinements, and practices that do not depend on a defendant's ability to pay bail, leading to what some believe is a decarceration philosophy in the court system. By 2025, the same year this incident took place and the Facebook post was published, Colorado saw violent crime drop more than 14%, including a 43% decline in murders, 16% fewer sex crimes, 9% fewer aggravated assaults, and a 35% drop in robberies. However, it's unclear how much these policies contributed to the decline as crime rates have fallen across the United States across the board. >> Wow. So, that dude, that that's wild. And to to be honest with you, like I'm shocked that only three officers were shot in that whole ordeal. Um thankfully none of them were killed, but when you're going and tracking an armed suspect who's showing that propensity of violence armed with a rifle, that's that's incredibly scary. I personally think tactic-wise they should have slowed that down a little bit, set their perimeter, like you said, maintained it. Get every available resource you can. And in today's day and age, we've got drones, bearcats, I mean, you got SWAT teams. There are ways to be able to manage these situations without rushing into it to prevent exactly what happened, which was more cops getting shot. So, that just highlights the uh the dangers of this job. I I mean, things can happen at the drop of a hat. That officer had zero chance to even get out of his car before he took rounds from that guy and he got shot in the head and miraculously uh survived. >> Well, that the title makes sense. I mean, three cops were ambushed because they that first one. Absolutely. And from the time the first officer was shot to the time the suspect was shot, based on the body cam was about 2 hours. >> Yeah. >> I don't like the the constant shifting and moving of these officers, setting a perimeter, holding that because as soon as that first officer was shot, I mean, you have attempted murder on a police officer, suspect armed with the rifle, hold that perimeter, get those resources, slow things down. Not knowing that he has armor-piercing rounds, which is very unusual. So those plated carriers that those officers were wearing really really wouldn't have helped but it is added protection. I like the female officer she was very very good at communicating what was happening like she was very detailed. Obviously she has some type of a training or FTO was very good at at coaching on that. And then lastly I think the video really indicates and shows the insides of what happens during a critical incident and officers are actually having a little time to decompress and talk about what's happening and emotions start to come up. You have an officer that's been injured. you start talking about it. There's a lot to unpack in this video is absolutely well done by Midwest Safety. I'm glad those officers are okay. Uh in the title is very very accurate in this one. >> Yeah. And she's a twomonth cop on the job or only had very very minimal time on the job. So pretty wild. It just goes to show I mean whether you're one day cop, 30-year cop, or 20-year cop, I mean something like that could happen any day that you go to work. So uh that was wild.
