on January 22nd, 2023 Sarasota Police officers were looking for 36 year old Darrell Williams after a domestic battery investigation the day before police said a woman who was five weeks pregnant reported that Williams had grabbed pulled and tossed her around inside her home Williams was gone by the time officers arrived and a warrant was issued for aggravated battery on a pregnant woman the next afternoon officers spotted Williams entering the Express Grocery on Doctor Martin Luther King junior way in Sarasota they moved in to take him into custody expecting to make an arrest on the was only part of the story prosecutors would later allege that Williams actions during the arrest itself LED to additional felony charges connected to the confrontation with officers yeah she has the Sarasota County Jail he was facing the female officer involved in the struggle suffered a deep bite wound to her hand and was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital where she received stitches her identity was withheld under Marcy's Law Williams was also accused of spitting on another officer while police were trying to place him inside the patrol vehicle that officer's identity was also withheld under Marcy's Law police records also showed that Williams had an extensive prior criminal history according to Sarasota police his record dated back to 2003 and included nine prior felony convictions and 11 misdemeanor convictions Department also listed previous felony cases involving resisting with violence cocaine possession and a 2007 case involving s**ual battery and s**ual fondling of a c***d the jury found Williams guilty of domestic battery and witness coercion he also faced severe felony charges directly related to the arrest struggle including aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence Williams remains in the custody of the Florida Department of corrections
