The next morning, while still in custody, she appeared before a judge who found enough evidence for the case to proceed, ruled she couldn't afford an attorney, and assigned her a public defender. Bail was set at $1,000. She paid it that same day and was released on the condition that she avoid alcohol. For a while, it looked like the case would move forward as charged, but behind the scenes, things shifted quickly. On May 4th, 2023, prosecutors chose not to pursue the battery charge at all and reduced the DUI from a felony to a misdemeanor, sending it down to county court instead. That decision effectively ended the felony case. By August, the $1,000 bail money had been returned to the bonding company that posted it for her.
