I'm talking to you real quick. Tell me what's going on. >> Um, well my friend's mom, she um she woke me up out of my sleep cuz I was trying to come and get my friend and I guess I met her and my friend at the store and her mom followed behind me and her mom was trying to open my door and she was trying to I guess get me out the apartment and something and instead of her doing it to me, she got my friend and I tried to pull away to get my friend in the car but it didn't work so she got in the car with her mom and I guess that's when her mom put her hands on her. >> Just hang tight for me. I'm going to go look at the video footage real quick and then we'll head over there and see what's happening. >> Police respond to a Circle K after reports of a physical confrontation involving a 46-year-old mother and two minors. According to the initial report, the altercation began after the mother became upset that her daughter had awakened her following a 16-hour work shift. When officers arrived, they begin separating everyone involved and gathering statements to determine exactly what led to the confrontation. As the investigation unfolds, emotions remain high and officers work to piece together conflicting accounts of what happened. In this body cam footage, watch as police investigate the incident and determine whether criminal charges are warranted. This is response unit body cam. Real incidents, real arrests, and real police encounters caught on camera. Let's jump into the video. >> So I guess we just had an incident happen in front of the store. >> Okay. >> See a mom and her daughter chasing around the car, possible domestic issue. Trying to see if your cameras caught any of it. >> Just get almost a minute. Jesus. So I mean you can't really see what she's doing in there. >> Yeah. >> But I mean it looks like they're just kind of laying on each other. >> I guess it's turning into something else in another section of the city so yeah. >> Oh god. >> Also, my friend uh I let her know that y'all were coming, but she said her mom left and I told her I guess she can still talk to y'all, but >> Okay. So, we're going to have to go and try to talk to her and find out what's going on. Uh did she say where her mom might have went to? >> No, she didn't. >> Okay. All right. Well, we appreciate you coming back and talk to us, okay? >> Okay. >> I guess we need to hurry up and get there cuz I guess mom's going to come back soon. So, let's go ahead and fly over there. Are you okay? Are you hurt at all? Can you tell me what happened? >> ran to the store and told them to come and get me. She started chasing me around. And then once I got in the car with my mom cuz I didn't want her to do anything to my friend. She pulled my hair and hit me in the head. >> Okay. How many times did she hit you? >> Yeah, sure. >> Okay. Do you need EMS to check you out for anything? Okay. Do you know where your mom's at right now? >> I do. >> Where is she at? >> Well, she left. Well, I can't say I know where she is. Well, I ain't sleeping. Probably will impress charges on her. >> What's that? >> I probably will impress charges on her this time. >> So, so this is where we're at. If it's domestic violence in the state of Florida, I have no choice. I have to at least file it. So, I do have to do a report and send it to the state however state can do whatever they want to. And if I find your mom today, she will take a ride. Okay? I just I don't get that option when it comes to domestic. However, you have options on the back side of it that you can do talking to the state attorney's office. But today, if I find your mom, she's going to take a ride today. Did she rip any of your hair out? Okay. Uh just give me a second. Do you mind writing a statement for me about what happened at Circle K and happened in the car? That way at least I got your side of the story. All I have is is your friend's side, Ms. inside of it. >> Well, I'm kind of confused about the time What's the time now. >> Okay. Can you at least wait till I fill out this domestic violence paperwork? I see you just signed saying I offered you EMS and gave you some paperwork for it. >> Mhm. >> All right. Just give me a second, okay? She's not wanting to press charges, but Yeah, that's why I told her it's no choice right now. She's got options on the back end she can do, but can you tell me why she was doing all this to you? She didn't say anything to you in the car or anything like that? >> She did because she felt like I lied to her, but I didn't lie to her because I didn't tell her my business, so >> Okay. >> necessarily lie. >> Okay. >> she probably Yeah, she told her she didn't know where I was at, but then she followed her and I left from the hotel and I walked to the store. So, I went to the store, and but then she was like, "You know >> Okay. Okay. So, since you couldn't do a written statement, do you mind if I just raise your right hand so I can swear you to your verbal statement real quick? Can you raise your right hand for me? Do you swear your verbal statement you gave me is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth? >> Yes. >> So, I got a couple questions. Uh do you want to be notified if she gets arrested? I'm going to have a yes or no for the lovely camera. Do you want me notified if she gets released from jail? Okay. Uh what's a good address for you that you want to be located? Is that where she stays at, too? >> Mhm. Come here. >> Where Where does your mom stay at? >> Honestly, I don't know the address, but I know sometimes she'll be at her boyfriend's house. Like, ever since I moved out, I just I don't be worried about Mama too much. >> Okay. What's a good phone number for you? Has she ever done this to you in the past before? >> Yes. >> When was the last time this happened? >> Last year. >> Last year? Is that when you were living with her? Okay. So, these, if I don't drop the pen, uh it's what happens in an injunction or restraining order if you do happen to get one against her. It tells you what happens if they violate it and come close to your contact with you. >> All right. >> You need anything else on Circle K, let us know, okay? >> This is where the situation becomes especially concerning. The daughter tells officers that her mother chased after her and struck her because she believed she was lying. She also tells police this wasn't the first time something like this had happened, which naturally becomes an important part of the investigation. And honestly, after a long 16-hour shift, most people just want a nap, not an argument that ends with police responding to a convenience store. Being exhausted can definitely make someone irritable, but it's never an excuse for a situation to escalate into a physical confrontation. At this point, the officers are focused on separating everyone involved, documenting each person's account, and determining exactly what happened so they can make the appropriate decisions based on the evidence. Let's dive back into the video. >> Miscommunication. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> What's the miscommunication? >> A whole bunch of stuff. >> Okay. >> You know, and I I I told him I I try not get in her business because she grown. >> Mhm. >> But when I don't work 16 hours, I'm tired. You called me and woke me up out my sleep. >> Mhm. >> They go wake your friend up. >> Okay. >> Yeah. So, it it's just a bunch of mess. >> Okay, so what happened at Circle K? >> What happened at K? She was She was at Circle K, so we I started chasing her around like, "Talk to me. I'm your mama. Talk to me. I raised my kids to where y'all should be able to come and talk to me about anything and everything." >> Okay. >> But that wasn't the case. She was like, "Well, I didn't do nothing." Cherish, you woke me up. So, we chased I chased her around. She was like, "Well," I said, "Just stop running. Come get in the car." Her friend was there. So, she didn't get in the car with her. She got in the truck with me, and we was talking. So, >> Okay. >> we here. >> Okay, so you got in the car there, and y'all on the way here, what happened in the car on the way here? >> Nothing, really. You know, I was talking to her, and I was like, "You know what? You know, you grown. You make your own choices, your own decisions. I'm not going to knock you for that. I was once your age, so it is what it is. >> Okay, so then you guys got here. What happened when you got here? >> That was it. We talked again. That was it. So >> And when her friend got here, what happened with that? >> Nothing. I ain't stealing her friend. Her friend just out there like that. So I don't >> Do you live out here? Do you live somewhere else? >> Yeah, I live somewhere else. >> Okay, where do you stay at? >> Oh, in the country. >> Down in the country? Do you have your address? >> No. >> You don't know your address? >> No, it's it's complicated, but yeah. >> It's complicated. If I needed to mail you something and related to this, how would I get it to you? >> I got a post office box. >> Post office box? Okay. If I needed to come actually come talk to you at your house, how would I get to you? >> How would you come get me? 47. >> 47? But you don't know the address standing at 147? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Okay, so this this is >> Put your other arm behind your back. I'm just going to put your hands >> No, no, no. CHERISH! >> NO, WAIT. WAIT. I'M NOT GOING >> CHERISH! CHERISH! WAIT. >> STOP. STOP. >> WAIT. WAIT. >> STOP. >> WAIT. >> Put your other arm behind your back. I'm going to put your other arm behind your back. >> Why am I going to jail? >> Put your other arm behind your back. I'm done with this. >> No, no. >> Then stop resisting. >> I'm peeing. Can I go change >> Please, I'm peeing. Please. Please, can I go change clothes? Please. Wait. No, listen. >> You pull from me again and I swear you're going to end up eating dirt. Do you understand? >> Excuse me, sir. Wait. Wait. Wait, please. My arm I got a torn rotator cuff. Please. >> You're fighting enough where it's not torn. >> Wait. My phone's ringing. Wait, one second, please. Please, y'all. >> It's not It's not hanging up there good, but it's not. >> Hello. Wait, please. Hello. >> Stop. >> I'm going to jail. >> Stop. >> I'm going to jail. >> Stop. >> Why am I going to jail? >> I'll explain to you when you stop resisting cuz you just caught another charge. >> No, I didn't. Why am I going to jail? >> I'll explain to you in a minute. >> Okay. Can I please go change clothes? >> No, ma'am. >> Listen, I just peed. >> That's okay. >> I got to change clothes. >> Come on to my car. >> Let me get my phone. Let me get my phone. They're going with you? >> Okay. >> My car's right here. So, you're going to jail for simple battery and simple assault. >> But >> Simple assault. >> But >> Yeah. >> So, can I press press charges against them? >> What did they do? >> I was assaulted, too. >> Where? >> Which I assaulted him. >> Cuz you want to bring up No, I watched the whole video. >> This is >> I watched the entire video. >> truck >> I >> In my truck. >> want to bring that up now as you go in handcuffs. >> Okay. Okay. So, so it's the problem. >> Let's get in the car. >> It's the problem. >> Get in the car. Cuz you want to wait till you go in handcuffs to bring some stuff up. So, I don't really believe you. Turn in the car. >> believe me? >> Turn in the car. >> What? Can Can >> Turn IN THE CAR NOW. I'M TRYING TO PULL THEM ON THE GROUND, MAN. I I I UNDERSTAND. I was done. I was done at that point. >> At the end of the day, this incident is a reminder of how quickly a family disagreement can turn into a criminal investigation when emotions get the better of everyone involved, according to police. The encounter ultimately resulted in the mother being arrested and charged with simple assault, simple battery, and resisting arrest. And honestly, after working a 16-hour shift, most people are looking for a pillow, not a police report. But no matter how exhausted or frustrated someone may be, it's important to find healthy ways to handle conflict. Losing your temper can create consequences that last far longer than the argument itself. Hopefully, everyone involved can move forward from this experience.
