So, I was in there. I was I asked for ranch four times and everybody was ignoring me. So, I went behind the counter and I grabbed it. It's nowhere near the register. I was back out in the lobby and the one of the workers grabbed my arm and like was trying to grab me and I pulled away from her and I returned around and I was facing her and then she grabbed me by the throat and put me on the ground. >> So, you were at like the front counter. You had asked for ranch. Nobody's paying attention. How did you get behind the counter? >> I So, the you you've been in this McDonald's before. >> I have, but just >> So, there's like >> I'm assuming there's a door you have to go in to get back there. >> Police respond to a McDonald's after reports of a confrontation between an employee and a 17-year-old customer that allegedly escalated into a physical altercation over a packet of ranch sauce. What began as a disagreement at the counter quickly turned into a call for law enforcement. When officers arrived, they began separating those involved, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing what allegedly took place inside the restaurant. As statements are gathered, police work to determine exactly how the confrontation escalated and whether any criminal offenses occurred. Watch the full body cam footage as officers investigate the incident and uncover what led to the reported altercation. This is response unit body cam, real incidents, real arrests, and real police encounters caught on camera. Let's dive into the video. >> Okay. Okay. Okay. So, you So, you grabbed the ranch and then you came right back out. >> Yes, I didn't do anything else. >> Okay. And then this employee approached you and did what? >> Attacked me. She grabbed my arms like tried to try and keep me from walking away. I pulled away from her and then we turned face to face because she was behind me. And then she grabbed my throat and put me on the ground and she knocked me down. >> She held you on the ground? >> Was she choking you? >> Yes. >> Okay. Were Could you breathe? >> No. >> For how long do you think that happened? >> Probably about 10 seconds. >> Okay, and then and then she let you go and >> She I don't even remember what happened like after that. I was nervous like I like I'm starting like like my vision was going white. >> Right. >> Um other did she where did she grab you on your arm? >> Like Like probably right here. >> No, but I landed on my elbow when I was trying to get away from her. >> Okay. Do you need an ambulance? >> [snorts] >> Honestly, no. I don't need paramedics. >> Okay. Is your How old are you? >> I'm 17. >> Where is your mom and dad at? >> Which is who I was staying with when I went down. And I called her and told her everything but she said there's like absolutely no way that she can make it here right now. >> Okay. And then are these two with you? >> Yeah. >> And they did they see what happened? >> uh yeah. >> Yeah, but Travis was in the car. Kyle watched everything happen. >> Okay. So, when she actually physically attacked you, you were already back in the lobby? >> was in the lobby. >> Was there any other customers around that saw it? >> All customers. >> Okay. >> This happened about 15 20 minutes ago so everybody that was probably in the lobby saw me in there but all of the workers were in there. And then one of the workers looked at me and she goes, "He didn't put your She didn't put her hands on you. Stop lying." When he literally watched everything happen and there's a video of the footage. >> Okay. Uh what does the lady look like? >> She's She's black. I don't >> How old? >> Probably about 30, maybe 35. >> She was >> Okay. Yeah, okay. Were you inside when this happened? Yeah. What did you see? >> I just We were waiting at the counter. She asked people for ranch working behind the counter. >> Yeah. >> And they just kept ignoring her and walking by so she just set her food down, went back there, grabbed like two things of ranch. And then as she was walking back, that lady just said, "Hey, you can't do that." and just grabbed her. And then she said, "Hey, don't touch me." and then they started fighting. >> So, was she back out from getting the ranch, like back in the lobby when this happened? >> She was on her way out. She was almost out in the lobby. >> And the lady grabbed her arm? >> Yeah. >> And then when you say they started fighting, like >> She just pulled her to the floor. >> Okay. >> And then they were just >> So, fighting her, though, or was >> Well, I mean, she was trying to get her off of her. >> Yeah. But the lady grabbed her arm. Did you see her choke her at all? >> Yeah. She was holding her on the ground like that. And pulling her hair. >> Okay. So, she goes behind to get the ranch, she grabs it as she's walking out, the lady grabs her arm, >> Mhm. >> pulls her to the ground, and chokes her on the ground. >> Yeah. >> Okay. And what's your last name? R E >> Riqua. >> Riqua. Okay. >> According to the 17-year-old's account, she says she repeatedly asked employees for ranch packets, but felt she was being ignored. She told officers that after waiting, she walked over and grabbed two ranch packets herself, and that's when the situation allegedly escalated into a physical confrontation. It's hard to believe that two little packets of ranch could become the center of a police investigation. Most people expect ranch to go with their chicken nuggets, not a body cam video. On a more serious note, disagreements between customers and employees can happen, but it's important for everyone involved to keep their cool. Let's jump back into the video. >> Okay. Um So, since, like I said, the allegations that she's making are criminal, um so, I have to get a statement from you. Um so, I'm going to read you your rights. It doesn't mean you're under arrest or anything like that, it just means I want you to understand your rights before you answer any questions, okay? Um you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law. You have the right to talk to a lawyer have him or her present with you while you're being questioned. If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, one will be appointed to represent you. You can decide at any time to exercise these rights and not answer any questions or make any statements. Do you understand each of the rights as I've explained to you? >> Yes. >> Okay, having these rights in mind, do you wish to speak with us now? Yes or no? >> Yes. Well, no. >> No? >> No. >> I understand. >> Okay, can I talk to you outside just real quick? Is this your family over here? >> Yeah. >> Is that where your Is that your auto? >> Yes. >> Okay. Okay, so you are under arrest, okay? >> I figured. >> So, just place your hands behind your back for me. >> get my phone out my pocket. >> We'll We'll take care of it all. Just place your hands behind your back for me. Ma'am, I need you to stay back, please. Stay back. Put your palms together. Okay. >> Okay, can I call my mom real quick? >> Uh not right now, but let's step over here to the car. >> Okay. >> All right. So, what this comes down to is you can't physically put your hands on somebody just for coming over the counter and getting them. >> But I ain't touch her. >> Yeah, well, the video looked like you did. >> I didn't. >> Hey, you need to leave before you go to jail. Keep driving. >> And what the charge is? >> It's going to be a child abuse since she's a minor. 80 for Charlie on 10-15, you can make it a child abuse. >> 15 for child abuse, that's 15 on something. >> Bring out some bags. >> I ain't got no purse. Look here. >> We're going to put everything We're going to take everything out and put it in a bag for you and your personal property, okay? Okay, I'm just going to check your pockets with the back of my hand here, okay? Is that keys? >> Okay. If anybody comes back screaming and yelling, they're going to go to jail. >> Oh, that's it. Ain't my nothing in there. >> Is your mom calling? >> Yeah, it's most likely. Oh, that's my >> Anything in this pocket here? >> No, ain't nothing in there. >> Okay, if you can just have a seat here for me, uh we're going to get all your property put in a bag. >> Can you turn my phone off? >> And then, I'm going to How do you turn it off? Oh, it's the power button. >> Yeah. I don't know. >> Okay, I got to see you turn that up as high as it'll go. Officer Rogers going to stand by with you if you need anything. He's going to be just a few minutes, okay? >> At the end of the day, this incident is a reminder of how quickly a disagreement over something small can escalate into a serious criminal investigation, according to police. The McDonald's employee was ultimately arrested and charged with child abuse without great bodily harm following the confrontation involving the 17-year-old customer. A disagreement over dipping sauce is frustrating, but once a situation becomes physical, the consequences can be far more serious than the original dispute. The takeaway here is simple. Keeping your composure during customer service disagreements is almost always the better option, no matter which side of the counter you're on.
