As a cop, you put your safety on the line every single day, facing situations that can change in an instant. >> I'm alive. Okay. Just got a grace. >> I see it. >> Probably shouldn't be alive, but >> No, no, no. We're fine. We're here. >> We have a woman who shoots a deputy after escaping her handcuffs in the back of his patrol car. >> She slipped under the cuffs and I open the door right as she's putting something in the back seat. >> Away from being dead. >> Am I hit in the back? And we have a massive crowd that turns on the officers as they try to save a man with gunshot wounds. >> Back the up. >> They trying to save him. Get back. >> He doesn't help with you on the officer. >> Back up now. Back up. >> But first, a deputy conducts a routine traffic stop unaware of the woman's hidden firearm. Take a look. >> 667 Southeast 95th Court on an orange Mustang. The vehicle just pulled in front of residents, started honking to get residents to come out. >> What are you doing? >> I was coming to the house right here. >> Why are you honking? >> I was I was telling my dad to come out like pop out. >> Okay, hold on. Why didn't you pull over right away? >> Oh, because I'm at the house and so I just wanted to like, you know, cuz we're already here. >> Okay. Do you have a driver's license on you? >> Uh, yes. I'm just trying to grab >> Why would your driver's license be in there? Oh, no. Sorry. I was just getting all the paperwork. >> You're good. I just need the driver's license. >> Got a picture of >> Is it valid or is it >> Yes, sir. >> suspended, expired. >> No, no, sir. It's valid. >> I'm not very good at seeing. What's your first name? >> B. Whose car is this? >> This is um my co-signer. My registered paper. I have all the I can call them, too, as well. >> No, you're good. You're good. It's not recording. >> Right here. No, no, sir. No, sir. Everything's paid off. Everything's paid up. everything. >> Can you do me a favor and just get out of the car and come right here? Just to the back. >> Yeah, let's get out of the vehicle. You seem all nervous. Uh we call it hinky, you know, acting all suspicious. Uh if you will, this is one of those situations where you know what? I don't think her name is Briana. We got to find out who she is. We're just doing a traffic stop. And I've said this in the past on the other channel is traffic stops are the most inherently dangerous situations a cop can get into. >> Well, I was okay. >> Yeah, cuz I'm telling you, too. >> Oh, okay. Yeah, sure. Is what's what was the reason of the stop again? Could my pops come out? Maybe. >> Well, I'll have you step back. >> I'm going explain to you the reason. >> And I had just >> You're good. Just come on right back here. >> Is a reference signal 49 right here. Yes, sir. >> I'm going to have you give me your information. You don't really look like the person on the driver's license. >> 23. Spell your first name for me. >> B R I A. >> Spell your last name. >> M A S O. >> What's your date of birth? >> Don't pull it up. No, I'm saying. >> What's your social security number? >> I don't know that by heart. I don't know by heart. I don't know by heart. I >> see this for a sec. >> My phone. Yeah. >> To look at the picture. >> Well, I mean, I could I could maybe like send it, but I don't like give consent to the phone. I would just rather lie. >> I'm just trying to look at the picture. >> Yeah, no problem. Yeah, you can you can look at the picture and see. It's >> You don't even have the same color eyes as the girl in that picture. >> That's makeup. That's eyeliner around the makeup. >> Okay. >> Good. Go ahead. Put this down. Put this down. You're being detained right now. >> Put the phone down. >> Put the phone down. Put the phone down. Yes, sir. >> Yep. Let it go >> and put your hands behind your back for now. You're being detained. >> I still haven't got an answer. >> Yeah, cuz you're not being truthful about who you are, >> sir. But but what was the reason of the original stop? >> The reason for the original stop because you made a faulty stop on the at that stop sign and because as you were proceeding through that first stop sign that I seen you coming head on with me, you were not in your lane. You were partway over the lane. Do you have any weapons on you? Guns, knives? >> No, sir. >> All right. I'm going patch you down. Go ahead and tuck your elbows up. >> Well, sir. Sir, I'm confused. I'm a female. I don't know. >> That's fine. Come over here. >> Yes, sir. >> This side, show me one detain. >> I'm so confused right now. >> Have a seat. >> I'm going to explain everything to you. >> I don't >> Just to note that is time of the essence or do you have time? If you do have time, then yes, you can request a female partner to arrive at scene so they can conduct a very good search, right? A pat down of, you know, your private parts and all that because again, when you conduct that pat down, you never know. You're searching for weapons, any type of bulge that might be narcotics, paraphernelia, contrabite, whatever the case may be. But you have to conduct the pat down, especially if we're going to put them in the backseat of the police cruiser. Have a seat. >> Can my pops come out here? >> Have a seat. I got to read you something before I talk to you cuz you're in handcuffs and you're sitting in the back of my car right now. So, you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can abuse against you in a court of law. Do you understand the rights I just read to you? >> I'm here. >> Okay. I'm going to tell you how I know you're not Brianna Mason because I pulled over Brianna Mason like 4 days ago. Yes, sir. >> Okay. So, are you going to give me your real name or are we going to have to take you to the jail and figure out who you are? >> Yes, sir. My real name is uh >> Go ahead. >> R H E A N. >> R E >> R H E A N. >> What's your last name? >> Pardon. H A R D E N. >> What's your birth? >> It's on the envelope. It's right there. How'd you give me her name instead of your name? Do you have a warrant? >> No, I don't have any warrants. Are you suspended? I literally almost have everything like paid off and it's literally it's like right there on the edge. I have court July 8. You know what I'm saying? >> So, you gave me a fake name because you were suspended. Really? Does that seem like a logical thing to do? >> Well, it wasn't like wasn't that's not who I >> So, why did you give me a fake name? >> This is her her she Okay, that's my best friend. I I picked her up from like that's just all it is. Like I just I'm trying to not Why would you give your best friend's ID in place of just identifying yourself? >> So, it's because you're suspended. >> I don't want I don't want it completely cancelled. >> Have you ever been arrested for driving with suspended license? >> I just got out of prison and I've been doing so much better. I've been working three different jobs. You know, I paid down full on this vehicle. I've just been doing really really good with that. So, I'm just trying to stay on the right path. And I just came in town. My aunt just passed away and I'm at 27. She's literally >> She's suspended. She gave me a fake name. She gave me a name of someone I called her three days ago. Yeah. Do you have any drugs on your person? Whether they belong to you or not, that I'm about cuz I'm What I'm going to do? Stand up. Stand up. [clears throat] I'm about to have to go through your pockets. Okay. Do you have any on your person? >> Um, no. >> No. Okay. >> Go ahead. Just up there. Hold on. The keys. >> Yeah. >> Okay. What kind of drugs are we talking? >> Give me one sec. Right. 6601 10:15. White male. Start next rotation. You >> said white male. >> I said female, didn't I? >> Back to you, man. Correction. White female. >> Dude, I was like I was like looking at her. What >> is that more of the same just in this pocket right here? >> You said yes. >> Is it going to be in this thing right here? >> Yeah. >> Is that why you were death gripping it when I was trying to get you to let it go? I >> I did see it was stuck, but you didn't you didn't want to let it go before that. >> Cuz I guess I was trying to get off like if I'm trying to grab it at one hand. >> And it's also worth noting that perhaps maybe there isn't a female deputy uh working on the watch, right? But if you do have the option for a female officer, a female deputy to arrive at scene to conduct a very good thorough pat down, then yeah, go for it for sure. >> Damn. You don't have to. >> The thing got I'm holding them back. >> Yeah, I know. I know. Jeez. Think you have a friend and tuck your elbows up. >> Please hit my phone. No, I can't piece the tape. I'm sorry. >> I've been working on my car, so there might be a few. >> Mhm. Might be a few straws. I got you. It happens when you work on your car. >> No, I'm thinking the brakes. You can look whatever. >> Hey, don't [ __ ] me. Look with the dental pit cuz I saw that in somebody else's. >> It happens. I don't know what they're for. What are they for? >> No, that's really for like dental like you can sit down. You can sit down. >> No, I'm I'm dead serious. And so like that that alone is for because I have a tongue cushioning and so like I'll periodically clean it off like you'll see. >> So you put your your clean dental pick in the same rubber. >> Bro, that's a lot. >> And she had a backpack behind her in the seat too. >> Yeah, please. >> How long you been in the car? >> Bro, I just woke up, bro. >> No way. You were not here the whole time. >> I swear to God, bro. >> That's wild. >> Crazy. That's wild. >> That's terrifying. >> That is terrifying. >> Do me a favor. Hop out the car, my man. You got any guns, knives on you? >> No, sir. >> All right, man. Stand up. >> Damn. >> Temple. You got anything on you? >> No, sir. I just said no. >> I'm going to check your pockets. All right. >> You said no, too. When you thought, so like realistically, let's not act like it's crazy, bro. All I got is the bees in my bracelet in my pocket. That's it. Can I please get my dad attention? >> Hang tight. >> Can I please get my dad attention? >> I just said hang tight. >> All right, bro. >> Go get Papy, bro. >> I'd really rather not him come get Papy. I'm going to be real. Like we're just going to hang tight. >> No, bro. That's not Go get Papy, bro. >> I'm not doing Like I said, the beast is the vibration. Bro, don't have a string. You might find a lighter. That's it. >> Go get searched. You just found an investigation. 25 ft mission. Stay there. >> See, that's why >> Just stay right there, bro. Just stay right there, Papy. No, I need you to witness this [ __ ] at all. >> Hey, let's bring him over here on on that side. Come here. >> Oh my god, dog. No. What the [ __ ] >> No need for any of that. >> My dad. >> Right here. Right here. >> Possibly like roll the windows down a little bit. It's really really hot. >> I got you. I'm going to turn the air up is what I'm going to do. >> Can I get some like fresh air as well too? Circulating like like just a little crack? >> Uh, no. But you can have that air. It's cold. >> Oh, no. So, I'm able to call um I I need the the person I need to be able to call him and tell him. Hey, can you roll the windows up, please? Could you possibly roll the windows up, please? Windows are out. >> No, I'm talking about to my car. >> Oh, hold on. Do it one thing at a time here. >> There's a lot of stuff in there. >> Why would let you use his car? >> What do you mean? Because I mean >> Huh? >> All I do is work. I don't really do much. >> What's your homeboy's name? >> Um I don't know. I just know they they call him >> We're still lying to each other. Thank you. >> I'm not I'm really not. >> Yeah. And that's a tough call, too, cuz we missed the passenger completely. And it is terrible. Like they said it earlier, it's horrible. It's horrific to know that you can get startled because there is a passenger. So, we don't know if the actual boyfriend's involved in anything. The fact of the matter is that if you can't ID him, then you can't let him go because you don't know if he has a warrant and you don't know if he's wanted for some type of crime and all that stuff is part of the investigation. So therefore, you have to legally detain them until you're release them. with a reasonable time to investigate whether or not he's telling us who he is. Okay, so that's kind of important to know, too. But at the same time, you didn't know. You have her in the vehicle. You know, there's a lot going on because that car is going to get impounded. >> Sir, I understand the frustration and I do apologize. I mean, it's it's inconvenience on both of our ends. I really don't know his name. He's even said it's for certain reasons. I don't know. That's just how it is. I mean, I I really don't know his name. I don't try to like bug anybody about that. >> What does he tell you his name is? You got to call him something. >> Blue. Blue. You don't know anything other than blue. >> No, I I promise you I I don't know anything other than blue. >> Okay. Why are you sitting way over there? >> Because I was trying to get the air. >> Got you. Okay. >> It's very hot. Um sir, please please, you know, I really do I work legit jobs. I work three different jobs. Really do make an honest living. Just >> I got a couple things I got to sort out. I'll talk to you. Now, before we go any further, just want to point out, and again, look, yes, it's easy for me to critique, you know, things that are happening in this incident, if you will. But what we're trying to accomplish is just some education to give you some information as to what cops are thinking at the time that this is all going down. You notice that uh she took off her visor and she covered the camera. That's something that makes you definitely think it's very suspicious. Why would you do that? And from that point forward, you start realizing that ah, you know what? Something's wrong here. >> Is there any way that we could possibly move have my car put somewhere? >> Is that not that guy? >> Where? No, that's not him. >> Is that not that guy? >> No, I promise you. >> How come you don't come up on any database, >> bro? Cuz I didn't do anything wrong, bro. >> No, it's not cuz you didn't do anything wrong. >> No, bro. No, >> I haven't checked out. You want to check? >> We're not doing this, bro. It just came back. What did you say? I I I ran on 775. >> Yeah. 1054 on your record either. >> Yeah. >> What the [ __ ] bro? >> Are you [ __ ] serious? >> No, bro. You just stopped there and told me I was straight, bro. And then this man to sit up here and come over. Hell no. I'm not >> cuz you're giving a fake name. >> I didn't give nobody >> cuz last time Last time I stopped out like 6 months ago. Five months ago. >> Same name. It was the same. Yes, the it was, bro. Yes, the same name. >> Yes, it was. Bro, >> what are you messing with? Take your hands out of your waist, >> bro. I don't have nothing in my pants. You just search me, bro. Chill out, bro. Like, this you talking about, bro? You're sitting up here trying to pull on these skits. I'm not going for it, bro. You just told me I was straight, bro. There's no way in hell you can sit up here and do this. You just ran my name and it was clear. Now all of a sudden, you're trying to sit up here and do this. >> It's not that it's clear. It's that it comes back to nothing, >> bro. Bro, so you how >> where were you born at? >> Why the [ __ ] did he sit up here and tell me? >> Where were you born at, bro? >> I'm asking. I give you my name. That was it. You as that's what you asked for, bro. I'm not doing wrong. The fact that he sat up there, bro, they ran my name, bro. And he just sat up there and said I was clear, bro. So, I'm just on standby. And now he coming over here on some other >> stand back over there. There's no reason to stand. I'm in my yard. I know. Right. >> Now, come to think of it, another option is to actually ask Papy, "Hey, is this your son?" And let us know what his name is and his date of birth. Come on. Name in Do and we'll be more than glad to release your son so we can concentrate and focus back on Rihanna and the uh vehicle with that particular part of the investigation. >> Heavy, I didn't do nothing wrong. I'm a passenger in the ride. That's it. >> Okay, >> that's it. Literally, that's it, bro. >> You are detained. I was dealing with on him, bro. You did with her, bro. Like, you put the cuffs on her, bro. That's your case to deal with, bro. And that's crazy as bro. So, I'm not even going to get into that. >> The driver's under arrest. >> Oh my property. You can figure it out afterward. I'm not telling you nothing. >> The issue is that we're not finding anything coming back. All right. That's what we're running into right now, >> bro. All right. So, nothing at all is coming back. >> Any other time y'all run my name and nothing's come back, y'all let me go. Bro, why is it this time y'all trying to harass me, bro? >> Ain't nobody trying to harass me. >> What the [ __ ] bro? >> But I'm going to tell you this. If you keep freaking out, you're going to go in handcuffs in the backyard so we can ID to get back over here. That's not a question because you're bringing your family over here and antagonizing them. >> I'm not antagonizing nothing, bro. My family is witnessing this, bro. >> They can witness, bro. >> I have no issue with that. >> Have you ever had a driver's license out of out of Florida? >> I've had a hardship. >> Hardship? >> Yes, sir. I did the 4-hour drug and alcohol class and stuff. I'm not around. I stay secluded. I don't like people. I really didn't even want to come over here. I wanted to go to my family. My little brother, he's five. So, what did pop say? I have no idea >> cuz I see I was trying to say something. >> He was trying to say something. I was missing him cuz why would I? It has nothing to do with him. >> Yeah. Yep. >> Yep. Getting to move all that out of the car. >> Go for it. Okay. Take whatever you want out of the car, man. I'll let me check with her real quick cuz it's all her stuff, right? Hey, do you want that guy blue to take the stuff out of your car? >> No. All right. Come here. Come here. Right now. Bring your hand around to the front. Scoot out. >> Turn around. >> What did you just put in my seat? >> What did you just put in my seat? >> No, it's my hat. >> Probably your hat falling. Hey, Bates. >> Come over here real quick. Watch her. She slipped under the cuffs and I opened the door right as she's putting something in the back seat. Then >> it doesn't even matter. I'm going to just hit it again at the jail. Go ahead. Go >> ahead. Take seat. What are you doing? >> I just had I'm sorry. I'm I'm very nervous. I'm just so >> She's got something in her back 100%. Because she keeps begging me to open the window. She's like, "Can you open the window? I'm hot. I got the cold air blasted." Like, "No, whatever you have, I'm going to fine." >> Yeah. Let me intervene here because uh it just seems very very suspicious. As you can see, the deputy's like really concerned and he's thinking to himself, you know, the the hair in the back of your neck just starts tingling, if you will, and thinking, and I've been there before where you just have that feeling, you know what? Something's wrong, but I just can't figure it out. But when we get to jail, that's when we're going to do a full full body cavity pat down search and let a female do it because you have that option. You have more flexibility when you get to the jail facility. 66 71. Shots fired. Shots fired. >> Shots fired. Station 733. Okay. So, now you have an OIS uh with no hits thus far, right? Officer needs help. Officer needs help. Everybody's coming and haul ass to come save your partner. >> Marin, I'm on 441 just north of a racetrack. I'm not sure exactly where. I'm outside of my car. >> 41 at racetrack. [music] >> Racetrack 37th Street. for racing 25 shots fired. >> I don't think I'm injured. I'm not sure about her. >> Just get the cover, [music] >> man. She's trying to get out of my car. >> Now, of course, shots fire. Shots fired is a good broadcast, but officer needs help. officer needs help means everybody has to get there, but you got to get there in a safe manner. I believe you can request a couple of cars to go code three, lights and siren. And the direction of travel has to be where there's not going to be a crossfire. Now remember, he's got a location where he's at and he has to pretty much put out the quadrant to ensure that when all the units are responding because the cavalry is coming to ensure that they get there safely and deploy in such a way that there is no crossfire. I don't need to see if I can either flooding >> Marin. Looks like I'm right across from the Royal Inn. >> East side of the road. >> East side of road from Royal in >> Marin about to go 97. >> East side of the road is facing northbound. You should see my headlights. OPD is about to be 1012 with me. >> East side of road facing northbound. >> 671. >> Where are you vehicle? Run behind my vehicle to the right >> at a concrete barrier. >> Behind vehicle to the right. >> What's that? >> Is he signal zero? >> She's signal zero. >> Signal zero. >> Hey, do not come southbound. >> Easy girl. Easy. >> Shut down traffic. >> Am I injured? >> You got like a mark on. >> Thought I got shot in the face. No, you got a great >> Okay, so now that the calvaryary is coming, backup assistance, uh, he is the shooting officer. And by the way, you're going to hear me say OIS, officer involved shooting. If you're new to the channel, I keep saying OIS. With that being said, it's either going to be OIS with hits or OS with no hits. Hits meaning that either the officer was hit with the bullet or the suspect, right? And right now, we don't know. So, it's going to be an OS with possible hits, uh, if you will. Now, while all this is going on, because he is the shooting officer, when the sergeant arrives at scene, you're going to have to extract him and get him out of this situation that's hot because he cannot be part of the ongoing incident knowing that he's a shooting officer and he's [music] got to give compelled statements later on. Okay. >> Watch her crossfire. Is she coming anywhere? Got 441 shut down. >> Shut down. >> Come on. >> She was kicking. She was trying to kick at the left door. >> I don't think so. Anybody coming southbound is going to be in a crossfire. >> Marion, have OPD shut down southbound lane. From this point forward, it's all about tactical game planning, communication. Someone's got to come up with a game plan, formulate something how we're going to approach that particular vehicle, right? The police cruiser. With that being said, the senior ranking officer or with the most experience, but normally or generally, it's the sergeant who's at scene should declare themselves to be the IC, the incident commander. and which means here or she has complete command and control of the situation, delegating and again assisting and guiding and directing and formulating a plan as to how we're going to go approach that threat. >> Anyone south turn on your takedowns almost >> did you shoot at her? >> Yeah. 58 approaching. Where do you need him? >> We need more on scene. >> No, we're we're good on >> just continue blocking the northbound lanes of 441 if he's south. If there's an unit coming southbound towards the bridge, just walk that part down. >> So, you're 55, man. Don't let any more units come up. >> Keep driving up it, man. She's in that car still >> 7025. Myself and 6966 are coming from the west eastbound on Southwest 42nd Street. >> Crossire sirens, too. >> You coming in just like your siren. We don't need any more counter. >> Continue on crossover in 200. >> Last time I wore my seat belt. Uh, you got out in time, buddy. [snorts] >> Dude, she started firing me through the grate. >> Yeah. Um, why don't you get head on back to my car and I'll take over before you're at? >> Okay. Since you're >> Is that your Is that your mag right there? >> Hey, Gileia, you you search real quick? You search yourself? >> Yeah, I think she just grazed me in the head. >> So, basically, he's out of play. He's not part of the ongoing situation to go and capture the threat. Okay, just so you know, because he's going to have to be monitored by a sergeant awaiting uh his compelled interview with internal affairs. >> I'm going to go check out with him. >> Whose car is this? >> Let's turn your lights off. I'll lock your door. I lock it off. >> Just find a position on the north. >> Is she in the back seat? >> She should be in the back seat. >> Let me see you, bud. away from being dead. >> Am I hitting the back? >> No, man. I just that searched her. >> Okay. >> All right. We have the south side of the vehicle covered pretty well. >> Just find a position on the northeast side. That's south side of uh where we bar. I need somebody to establish contact. >> Yeah, good call on that deputy. Tactical planning is what it is. It's not game plan. Well, it's kind of like a game plan, but you're going to be judged and scrutinized on your tactical communication and planning of the situation, right? And the fact that we have to somehow someway communicate with the suspect inside that police cruiser uh is priority number one to see if we can get her out. You know, give verbal commands to get her out and exit the vehicle. >> I don't know how we're going to be able to establish that she's going to cooperate. >> Have her put her hands up, see if she'll do anything. >> You need to put your hands up with nothing down. >> Yeah, that didn't work very well. >> You need to put your hands up and have nothing inside them. >> So, she can't go anywhere. She's fully surrounded inside the car. There's people on all sides. Gilliard shot his gun. He's got a graze wound on his face. That's from being shot at. But he I searched him. He doesn't have any other injuries on him. It's there's this that injury on his face. So, I got him over here separate from it. And we're on the car now. It's the decision of whether or not we want to go up on it. She's armed. She has a gun. Even though she's >> 34 like that. >> They said that they they saw >> after after the gunfire stopped. She was kicking at the door from the inside. And that was There were no more gunshots after that. Can we access the camera in the car? >> I can look that right now, actually. Um, >> is it on? >> His lights are not on, but the interior camera is on. >> She slipped the cuffs once when I had her in the back seat and I opened the door and she was being sketchy. So, I searched her again, recuffed. They're super tight. Like, there's no way she slipped out of them. I heard I was driving to the jail. I had the great totally open or the uh the plexiglass. And I heard the sound of the cuffs coming around. And as soon as that happened, I just it sounded like something exploded right next to me. I thought I got shot in the face. So, and she shot I don't know three three or four times at me while I was going. Can they see movement in the vehicle? >> Movement. We are establishing commands here. >> Let me see your hands. >> Hands out the window. >> They are. >> Put them all the way out the window. >> I'm in cuffs. >> Put both your hands out the window. Hey, I got sight on her right here. I can see her hands. Put your hands out the window. Hey, she's reaching back inside. >> You need to keep your hands out that window right now. Y, can you unlock your car so she can open it from the outside? >> 10 for standby. Trying to unlock it now. >> You need to get closer. >> Maybe. I'm trying to Is it the right door or the left door? She's on the left door. >> I also forgot to mention about the PSS, the public safety statement. These are questions that you have to ask the shooting officer. Uh, it's basically nine questions. One of those is, you know, how many rounds did you fire, at which direction, are there any other outstanding suspects? Very, very precise questions that you have to ask. And by the way, it looks like that's the boss that the shooting officer is talking to, that deputy. But it's better to just uh take him back to the station and just have him relax. This is going to haunt him for the rest of his career. But with that being said, make sure he gets his representation right away and kind of minimize the story, right, about what actually happened. >> Hey, can you get on your knees and stick your hands further out the window? Please do that. >> Are you able to unlock it? >> I'm trying. Is the door open? It's >> not open yet. Stand by >> here. >> I still got eyes. Both hands are out the window. Hey, try to open the door from the outside. >> Try to open that door from the outside. >> I'm coming over to you with the shield. >> Have a shield over there. >> Pair of shields. >> Two. >> Yeah. Side by side. >> I'm left-handed though, so let me get another side. >> Yeah. >> Rihanna's the name. >> Which side is she on? >> Left side. Hey, keep your hands right out the window. Do not move. Okay. >> All right. >> I can't hear you. >> Keep your hands up. >> Come out. >> Get out of the car. Get on the ground. Out of the car. On the ground. >> On the ground. >> Away from that gun. >> On the ground. Get on the ground now. On your stomach. >> Sir, it's over there. It's over there. I threw it out the window. Whatever we 102. >> Where's the gun? >> Right here. >> On this side. >> Do you shoot yourself? Are you hurt at all? >> Yeah, I think it's on my back. My shoulder. >> Back of the shoulder. >> My right. >> I believe. I'm not sure. I might have just got grazed. I'm not sure. My drill is still >> Call four suspects in custody. In a situation like that, time is of the essence. you have to make that decision to go in and outstanding job on their part for doing that and those shields really really good tool. Uh they were introduced as I was leaving the department. It's been about four coming up on five years now that I've been retired but that allows you to have some cover right as you're approaching a situation that can end up being deadly. So that's uh good job on their part. >> That was a stupid thing to do, wasn't it? >> Stupid thing to do. Yeah. My shoulder hurts. >> All right, guys. We got her. You guys can go steal your weapons. >> Did you try to shoot yourself up here? >> No. No, sir. >> Okay. >> Am I shot? >> No. No. It looks like it's just a scratch. >> Okay. >> Looks like nothing. >> No, it doesn't look like there's a hole or anything. Yeah. You want to roll over and sit up on the curb? >> Yeah. I thought I had 51. >> Yeah, there should be. >> There's some blood in the back. >> Yeah, there blood in here. >> Once medic get her, we'll put her in the ambulance. We'll >> I'm alive. Okay. Just got a grace. >> I see it. >> Probably shouldn't be alive, but >> No. No, no, no. We're fine. We're here. You see how I touched you? >> No. He's over here. >> Yeah, he has a grace wound on I think on his face. >> You want to say 102 of her? >> I got a call. I still haven't taken his gun yet cuz he Gilliard. >> Did he Did he discharge? >> Oh, yeah. Unloaded all the magazine. >> Okay. >> At least I I >> Y'all ready for her to be transported? >> Um Jens Yeah. Jensen, can you stay with her? >> Cuz I promise you she she had a gun down in her toy tooty. >> That's good. And we didn't do you didn't do a we couldn't do a female search. That's why I just had a female searcher. >> Yeah. He can't you know he I I told him I said I said listen she had a gun where you can't check. >> You can't check. >> So here here here's the deal. I I'm trying to figure in my mind what is her what is her thought process because she's locked in. >> I think she's on she's she's she's out. She drugged out. >> You can't get out. >> No. >> All I can say to that is that desperate times cause for desperate measures and she was completely desperate. Maybe under the influence, but uh you know what? You just never know, man. That's why this job, this profession is just an inherent dangerous job. >> Get transported. >> No. Well, my policy, you didn't get hit, did you? >> I got burned. >> Did anyone check under your vest? >> Nobody checked under, but I think I'd be feeling it by now. I feel this. >> Okay. What's that from? >> I think she barely missed. Yeah, she shot through the grate. Like, I probably should be not alive right now. >> Yeah, you did a good job parking right there. >> I know. I [laughter] I know. Did he unload the whole mag? It looks empty. >> I I'll take him up to the hospital. >> Okay, I'll take him up there. >> I don't have anything else to do here. >> M of all the ways that I thought could happen. This is not one of them. >> You know the really stupid part when they when they go to review the car and the body cam, they're going to be like, "This is a sign. This is a sign. This is a sign. This was a sign." >> Are you familiar with the term Monday morning quarterback? >> Oh, >> yeah. This is >> I plan to be the star of this. This is going to be like literal Monday morning quarterback. >> Yeah. >> Um I would assume so. >> Just making sure. Well, I mean, >> I don't know what exactly he what she had on or anything other than just knowing that there were >> pretty decent amount. >> Yeah, we need you kind of get a wait in the mouth to see if it's going to be the trafficking amount. >> All right, >> I think I'll go. >> You can fine. I'll get it. You're going to head right over to that green. >> Okay. When we wrap up this case, we're going to look at a couple of things here. Look, do we wait for a female deputy officer to arrive at scene to conduct that pat down search? That's something we should be thinking about, right? And are there any other tactics that the deputy could have applied? All right, we'll cover this all in the wrap-up, but first cops respond after a man is shot during an argument only to find themselves fighting through a hostile crowd to reach him. >> It's on its way. >> Watch out. Move. Out of the way. Get out of the way. Get out of the way. Move. Get out of the way. Get out of the way now. Get back. >> Get back. Get back. Get back. Get back. [screaming] >> Get back. >> Get back. Back everyone up. People, >> okay, so much that I can say about a situation like this. Uh, let me just start off with some basic procedures, if you will. First of all, we got to get the ambulance to show up right away. Like, it's imminent, right? So you got to create an ingress egress route which is not working because now you got to deal with the whole crowd that's acting very chaotic. Number two, this use of force cops I mean we're like fighting for our lives here. So you know what all bets are off which means that when you apply force it looks like you might deviate substantially from department policy tactics and procedures what you learn. But you got to get that baton out and somehow some way, you know, start getting the crowd to move to let the RA, the rescue ambulance show up so that we can save him, right? He's been shot. Let us do our job. >> Please [screaming] get back. Take him down. Take him down. [screaming] >> [screaming] >> Just think for a minute. You know what? We're trying to render aid. You know, maybe do CPR. We're trying to see if we can save his lives, give vitals, triage him until the RA, the rescue ambulance comes. But no, we have to fight this crowd control, try to deescalate the situation. And it's that's a tough ordeal, man. >> They need help. >> Where? Where? Get back. Get back. Get back. I don't care. Get back. >> Hey, back up. >> I'm his mom. I'm his mom. Okay, back up. >> What's up? What's up? >> Get up there. Get the people away from me. >> Everybody get back. >> Get back. >> Back up. Get back now. >> Get back. >> Get back. >> One. We have about a 50 people crowding us and we cannot get him help. Send more cars. >> They trying to save him. Get back. >> You know what? It's not an officer needs help call, but it's definitely a backup. Get units here as quick as possible. Look, one of the options, which by the way, Pure PD, man, you're doing an outstanding job with what you got is create a scrimmage line, right? Everybody out with their batons, right? Ready and somehow someway surround it around uh the victim. And if anybody decides to come in, just go ahead and jab him and get him out of the way and keep that command presence because come on, we're trying to get him help. Someone called 911, right? >> With you on the officer. >> Stay back. >> I can't up my >> Get down. [screaming] Get down. Get down. Back up. Back up. Get your ass back. Go help him. [screaming] >> Please help him. Stop him, man. Help him. Stop by your >> All right. All right. Okay. Okay, bro. Okay, Idiot. >> All right. I'm going to roll you on your side. You're going to get your knees to your chest. Okay. Knees to your chest. Get your knees to your chest. Get a I can't I >> All right. Get him up. >> I can't roll over. >> I didn't do nothing. You hit me in the face. >> No, I didn't, bro. >> Damn, bro. My fault. I swear my [ __ ] back the drag him out. >> Back up. [screaming] >> Going for her. Get the >> Give me your hand. >> Bro, why would you hit me like that? >> You had my offer. >> She had me. What the are you talking about? [laughter] >> They just hit me. Get the up, >> bro. Stop dragging me. >> What the [ __ ] is wrong? >> Get the up. Get up. >> I can't feel my legs. >> I can't feel my legs. >> Get up. I can't feel my legs. >> You walk this hallway. Get up. >> I can't feel my legs. I've been drinking. >> I can't feel my legs. I've been drinking. >> You just walked here. >> I don't know how the I got here. >> You just walked over here. All right. We need to secure that. We need >> I can't feel my leg. >> Get in the car. >> Get in the car. Get in the car now. All right. >> You're going to get chased. >> Try to get in the car. Get in now. >> Get in now. Oh, look. Oh, look. Your legs work. Oh, look. Your legs work now. >> Where's the accountability? I mean, someone please, you know, comment below. Let me know. Do you really think that it's, you know, us cops? It's like, are we the problem? Meaning, you know, you call 911, you want our help, right? We're there to what? Protect and serve. We're trying to serve a victim who just got shot, right? Practically murdered, if you will. And yet, this is what we get. Come on. We got to take some accountability. >> That's fine. We'll fix him later. >> I got you though, bro. stupid, bro. I didn't mean >> your foot in mother hit me and tried to run. >> You touched me. I know. >> Back up or we can't help your friend. Stop touching me, bro. Stop touching me, folks. your [ __ ] >> your t. >> We're noting dealing with this right now. >> Stand up. >> We can't help him when you're in our >> just got it killed, bro. Homer just got shot, bro. >> You're not helping him at all. >> Get in the car. >> I'm in total agreement. You You're not helping whatsoever. And yet the RA is not even there yet. And we're still dealing with this crowd control. >> Stay down, buddy. Stay down, boss. >> Stay down, boss. Let's breathe. >> Let's breathe for me. >> Let's get some crime scene tape up. >> Back up now. Back up. >> If you're in this crime scene tape, you're going to jail. Go. >> Get out of the crime scene now. It's a crime scene. You back up. Back up now. >> Back up. Get the out of here. Take him out of here. Take him out of here. >> Up on the curb now. Back up. >> This is a crime scene. Okay, back the up. Get up on the sidewalk now. You got to back up. This is a crime scene. Okay. >> Back up on the sidewalk now. >> Now back up. >> My face, bro. Back up. >> Back up. >> I'm telling you to listen. Okay. >> We can't help him with you guys breathing down our necks. >> This is your first warning. You're going to be covered if you do not disperse. You do not get your car now. >> No. It is a crime scene. >> Go. Not only are we looking at a major use of force investigation with, you know, distraction strikes, punching, taser, baton strikes, and the whole nine, but at the same time, and I talk about this on my other channel, is the acronym ATD. This is what they taught us in the academy way back. Ask, tell, and do, or ATM, ask, tell, and make. And that's exactly what these officers are doing. They're telling you to back up. They're telling you get out of the street. This is a crime scene. And when you ask them, then you tell them, you know what, go ahead and pinch them, right? Jam them and jab them to get them behind the crime scene. That's That's just the way it works. ATD. ATM. You will be pepper balled. You will be pepper balled. This is your warning. You will be pepper balled. Get on the other side. No, you cannot come through here. You will be pepper balled. >> Walk. >> Walk. >> No, I don't give a Someone got shot. Walk. >> Keep going. You will be power ball. >> LT victim went to OSF. >> Yes. >> Unfortunately, I went to go assist him and two girls jumped on me. So, I did not get hurt. Are you okay? >> Yeah. I mean, I got I got hit in the face a couple times and I can't open my hand all the way. >> Oh, no. >> It'll be fine. >> Okay. I hope so. Okay. So, you win this take down. >> I did not. No, I was on the ground getting choked and hit in the face. So, no. I don't have any information for you. I don't know. >> All right. Knocked down or something? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. You're tough. You're back up. So, >> oh god. I I can't tell you how many times I've been hit in the face in this job. She got me pretty good in the face a few times. >> Did you get arrested? You can get him. Good. >> I took your guy down. >> Yeah, he had me around the neck when I was trying. >> That's mine. >> He [ __ ] punched me. >> Where was he shot? >> I saw him on the count right there. He may have had a chest on. >> No. And there's blood right there. So, probably right here, but I have no [ __ ] clue. >> I was fighting everybody by myself trying to cut his clothes off. And they were all just pulling on me, telling me to help him. And I said, "Back up, back up." Like six times. And they literally just kept grabbing me and pulling on me. So I turned around and I swung at one dude and then he got all mad and started in my face. So I started fighting him. It's ridiculous. >> I agree. It is ridiculous considering you have a crime scene. You have a homicide that just occurred. And so we got to wait for the homicide detectives to arrive at scene. We got to canvas the area and there's going to be a lot of witnesses. There's going to be a lot of evidence, video, surveillance evidence, surveillance cameras, right? And even videos from people recording on their phone. So this is going to be a full-blown complex. uh you might want to get multifunctional and get the help of your neighboring agencies. So what you have is a major use of force investigation that's going to be very very complex. Plus you have the homicide scene that you have to manage and process. >> No, you're fine. >> Are you guys just looking? Are you trying to leave? >> Well, no, we're not trying to leave, but we're also trying to like if you needed us for whatever reason. Um but you guys are more than welcome to come in if you want and like >> Oh. Yeah. Look at so much paperwork. >> Oh, I understand that. But I [laughter] mean, I know that I see a lot of people like doing whatever. If there's like if you guys need drinks or anything, you need water. Did you guys see anything? >> I was out back. I didn't see nothing. >> Yeah, me and Donnie were out here and I we saw people running. >> Hear anything? >> Heard the what I thought was them knocking on the window and I'm like, "Where knock on the window?" Then we see everybody running. We're like, "Oh, >> yeah. I was out back there." >> Yeah. >> What did you hear? How many shots do you think it was? >> I don't know. >> I know. I heard three of what I thought was knocked on. Do you know how many shots you thought you heard, Johnny? Three. We got bottles of water in here. Oh, I got whole jug of water. >> We got cooks [laughter] in here, too. So, if you guys need food, we'll have donuts home. >> Oh, yeah. We're out. >> We We won't be inside then. >> Okay. So, let's wrap up this case first, right? Uh big shout out to APR PD for maintaining your composure, that command and control, and somehow someway being able to disperse this crowd. That was just super chaotic, man. I mean, imagine having to render aid, right, of a homicide scene. At the same time, you're fighting off the crowd and this becomes a major use of force investigation. But here's the bigger picture is, do we have problems, right? Or do we have issues and challenges is probably the best way to describe it between the community and the police? Because if this is the way the community is going to react towards the police, then you know what? Let's have a town hall meeting and discuss this fully. Let's have a full body discussion as to how we can make this better because this can't happen. Especially when you're calling 911 and asking us to help you, okay? There's got to be a way where we can bridge that gap. Going back to case one and wrapping that up as far as a female search for that pat down. You know what? It's easy to go ahead and criticize and think about it now where you know what, maybe we should have waited for a female deputy to arrive at scene. And you know what, Marian County Sheriff Office, you did a great job. Hey man, deputy, you can't just beat yourself down for not having that opportunity to request for a female pat down, right? Or request for a female deputy to conduct the pat down. Okay, that's very, very important for you to know. And what other tactics could he used? I don't know. I don't know. There's nothing else besides the fact that let's all debrief it, talk about it, and get better. And please be there for them and assist him, right? support your deputies and let everybody know and have a full discussion as to what we could have done better. Rojama was charged with the following. Attempted seconddegree murder of an officer, possession of a farm by a convicted felon, possession of methamphetamine, driving with a revoke license, given false identity, possession of drug paraphernalia, and lastly, possession of cannabis.
