When suspects are armed and dangerous, officers must be ready to deal with anything. What I do? Well, you pass counterfeit dollar. >> Put your hands behind your back. Get on your stuff. >> Dispatch, I've been I've been shot. >> And this man spends all day calling 911 about imaginary intruders, then comes out with a rifle. >> Yeah. Hey, there's some random homeless dude trying to like break into my apartment. Yeah, I've got a couple of kids using toy drones to like unscrew my [ __ ] locks on my front door. >> You're shooting out the balcony, dude. >> But first, officers make a street stop over a counterfeit bill and a gunshot is about to change everything. Take a look. >> Sir, come here for a second, please. >> What? >> Cuz I asked you to. >> No. >> Okay. >> For what? What I do? >> Cuz I told you to. >> What' I do? >> Well, you pass I put counterfeit dollar bill back. Dispatch, I'm finding one behind. >> Put your hands behind your back. Put your hands behind your back. PUT YOUR HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK. PUT YOUR HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK. DO [screaming] IT NOW. >> PUT your hands behind your back. GET ON YOUR STOMACH. Shots fired. Shots fired. >> Dispatch, I've been I've been shot. I got a um I'll be I'll be back as soon as I can. Okay. >> Give me a medic. >> I need >> You're good. >> I'm behind. >> I've been shot. I've been fire. >> I return fire. >> I need medics and I need crews, please. >> Okay. Well, look, first and foremost, I wanted to stop it here just to kind of give you an idea about Officer Holloway transitioning from non-lethal, his taser he just deployed uh to lethal and he was able to fire off rounds while he took a round to the head. Uh, and I got to tell you, man, uh, it's difficult to watch just from the perspective that when you hear that particular broadcast, it's the worst that any cop will hear in their career, right? Officer needs help. Officer needs help. I've been shot. It It's You drop whatever whatever it is that you're doing and you have to get there to help your partner out. Everybody stay inside. Stay inside. >> All cruisers responded. He's been shot. >> Clear the air. Keep talking to me. >> Keep talking to me. >> Stay. Stay right there. Stay right there. >> Stay right there. >> Dead. We still breathe. >> [panting] [sighs] >> I'm behind. Please hurry. >> Just keep talking to me. We're on our way. >> I've been shot on the left side of my head. I can barely hear my earpiece. >> We're on our way. Keep going. We're on our way. We keep going. >> I need you to stay right there. Okay. >> I'm not going away. >> I know you're not. And I appreciate it. Okay. >> You're You're He's got a gun under his >> He still has a gun under him. >> Okay, I got you again. >> I don't know. Load him in your car and go. I have him. We going to the valley. I have him in my car. We going to the valley. You okay? You okay, brother? You okay? You okay? Take it down. >> Let me stop right there. Also, just to let you know, the first sergeant at scene, command and control, right? Declare yourself to be the incident commander and start formulating a plan, right? How we're going to approach the suspect, right? He still has a gun. you still have to be able to secure that gun and effect that arrest and you got a lot of coordinating to do. Go ahead and tape everything off and start making sure that all the evidence is preserved. As you know, this is an OIS uh investigation. It's going to be very very detailed uh very frame by frame, second by second, and you got to wait for the calvaryary to come to come help you out. Okay. >> You okay, buddy? You going to BE ALL RIGHT? HERE. I'M BEHIND YOU. I'M FOLLOWING YOU. here and then try not to choke him with it. >> Yep. >> That's the gun right there. >> They're blocking the ramp. He screwed when he did the ramp walk on 35. >> Let me address the uh removal of the gun. You know what you want to do? Definitely I can tell you just from experience having to roll out of all these oases is I know detectives are going to say, "Hey, where do we locate the gun?" Right? And you want to be able to take pictures, take photos, right? To preserve that evidence before you go ahead and grab it. It's just a procedure that detectives follow. It's probably uniform across. The fact that you have to actually remove it and secure it. I get that you got to clear it, but at the same time, think about it. You're focusing on the suspect and preservation of life is key, right? You're trying to save his life, provide the MT to the suspect, but at the same time, there really isn't much attention that you need for the gun because, as you can see, he's already been detained, right? He's been contained within those injuries trying to save his life. Yeah. Nike here. One here. One here. >> We're getting off very low now. >> You don't have any other gauze or anything? >> No. >> Okay. I'm going to go get something real quick. >> You got a gun? >> Yeah, I got it in my pocket. I didn't touch it with my my hands or anything. >> Are you clear, dude? Okay. >> No, I have it. >> What pocket is it in? >> My left pocket. >> Right here. >> Yep. All right. Switch left. I'm all right. I'm all right. I'm all right. All right. I'm all right. All right. All right. Come on. Stay in there, buddy. Lay down. Lay down. Come on. Stay with us. Stay with us. Can we get his bell off from somebody? Don't worry about your belt, honey. We got it. Okay. My back, please. My left arm hurt my back, please. Please, please. >> You're okay. Okay. You're okay. You're okay, bud. >> Yeah, I see. Looks like an entry and exit room. >> He's got one on this right shoulder and it looks like one on the other. >> All right. Uh, hey guys, can we get some seam tape? >> I want all this taped off. Stay right here. >> You know what? Very good call on the officer there. Yeah, you want to tape it around and do the inner perimeter, then you want to do an outer perimeter. There is so much evidence in this crime scene that you want to preserve it as much as possible. Now, let me just readress the firearm, which is key in this entire incident, right? It's a suspect's gun. Yeah, I get it. We went ahead and removed it from its original location. All I'm saying is is that some detectives, not all, you know, prefer for them to either take a picture where you actually locate it and then go ahead and seize it and clear it and, you know, and and take it. But that's a matter of practice. That's all I'm trying to say. >> Relax, dude. Relax. Just stay right here. >> Make sure we can get the medic in here. Don't block the roads. >> Who is it? >> Who you good? What's his name? >> He hasn't given us anything. >> He's alert. Yeah, >> he's alert. He's talking. >> What? >> He's alert conscious. >> Knock on somebody's door to get their name and where they live. if they saw anything there. >> Did you see or hear anything? >> I didn't hear nothing but the sirens when the siren started. >> You didn't hear any shots? >> I didn't hear none of that. My kids were saying they heard I'm like I didn't hear that. I mean, I was in the midst of cleaning up. So, I didn't hear none of that. >> I know fire. Do you know if you hit him? >> Did you guys on the ground? He moving. He's on the ground. He's down. Guy's down. >> I don't know if he's I don't know who's on traffic stop. I don't know what like an alarm complaint. >> Did he know him? That's my neighbor. So, I called the mother. I ain't seen nothing or heard nothing. She She should be on her way. >> What's going on, man? What's going on? >> I just got to call my cousin with shots from >> Okay. Well, you can't come in here. The crime scene. Can you go park over there for me? >> Did he make >> As far as I know, they're working on him. Okay. >> Last I heard, he was okay. Park over there for me. Okay. >> Okay. Hey, hey, hey. Hey, I'm the aunt. I'm the aunt. I'm my sister just called and said, "My nephew just got shot." >> Okay. Well, this is crime scene. You can't just go through. >> Is he okay? >> He's being worked on as far as I know. You can't just drive through. >> Where can I park? Where can I park? >> On the street right there is fine. You can wait with him. >> But I can't I can't come up. >> He can't come through right now. >> So, that's your mom. >> Yeah. >> One person we're going to have to be worried about his sister. She's dramatic. Over dramatic. If I see her coming, I'mma call for you. >> Okay. >> My mother's drama. But at the end of the day, you know what they're going to say? We need you to pay for it. Again, >> you ever heard the expression, he who wears the crown heavy is head is heavy. >> Yes, I have. >> Yeah, it's heavy today. Tomorrow be worse. He had mental illness, too. >> How old was he? Can't be in the morning 37. >> They won't let me nowhere near your house. They won't let me know nowhere near your house. >> Mama. Mama. >> I don't know if the ammon took them or what. What they say n Jen on her way. The ammon took them to us. >> Jen is the only one that can go in and they have no information. >> That was his mother. She's on her way. >> Okay. If and when she gets here, I don't want her to try and just drive through here. I got to I got to talk to people before anybody. I know. You saw me park over here. I said no. I was trying to go to her house. Did the ambulin take him to the hospital or what hospital is it we go be we going to >> at the moment? I don't know. They were working on the last I know. >> She just loves the damn child. >> Look, it's a tragic no matter which lens you're looking at it from, right? And it's just worth pointing out that cops for the most part are always going to remain professional and respectful knowing the circumstances. Okay. What I also forgot to mention is that you have to obtain the public safety statement, the PSS. When a sergeant arrives at scene, one of his first duties and responsibilities is to determine and identify who the shooter is or shooting officers, right? One or several, it just depends. Okay? And you want to be able to get in order them to give you a public safety statement. It's nine questions generally. And one of those questions is, you know, which direction did you fire your rounds? If the shooter says, "Well, they're on a westerly direction." You know, you got to pretty much let the others know to assist to find out where all these rounds went. How many rounds did you fire? That's another one of the nine questions. So, all these questions are important so that we can maintain the safety cuz we don't know where these rounds were. And that, you know, as you can see the background, it was in an apartment complex and who knows where those rounds ended up. Okay? So, that's very, very important. Now, when we wrap this case up, we're going to look at one thing. If a cop gets shot in the head on a routine stop, do they just drop and the fight is over? Okay, think about that. Okay, we'll see your surges in just a minute. But first, this man has been making bizarre 911 calls all day about imaginary intruders. When officers are dispatched, things are about to take a turn for the worst. >> Yeah, there's some random homeless dude trying to like break into my apartment. [snorts] >> What? I it's uh four what? One60 Northwest apartment 1537. It's just some random homeless dude. I keep [ __ ] telling him to go away, but he want >> Hey, he said one 060 0. >> And how is he trying to break in? Uh, he just keeps trying to like [ __ ] knock on the door and pull on the handle. I think he's just lost, but I tell him to kick rocks a couple times. >> Okay. >> So, he's actually trying to break it. He's checking the handle trying to >> He Yeah. Yeah. He's been away for like maybe three or four minutes. >> Okay. And what is the apartment number? >> 1537. >> Any weapons that you seen? >> Not on him. I do have a handgun in the house, so I can put that away when offices get here. >> Okay. And your name for the call? >> Sean E. You called? >> Yeah. >> There was a [ __ ] homeless guy pounding out the door, right? >> Mhm. >> And every time I came outside to like he would knock and I open the door, nobody. He would knock. I'd open the door, nobody. Next thing I know, I'm looking through the [ __ ] people and there's like weird [ __ ] invisible [ __ ] out in the hallway. Like he was [ __ ] I know it sounds crazy. I know it sounds crazy, but he he would knock and literally open 2 seconds later. Nothing in the hallway. He was just gone. I don't [ __ ] know what happened, but he kept trying to like kick the door down and [ __ ] So, did you have any Did you see anything on your door? >> He didn't leave anything on the door, but he was kicking trying to like get in. You have like a ring camera or anything like that? >> No. I wish my neighbors used to have one right there. Well, >> okay. Let me stop right there just to kind of uh get some indicators of his behavior, right? The person who calls. So, he's either the PR, the person reporter or the RP, the reporting party, or could be a victim. Who knows? But right now, let's just go with the PR, right? Calls uh and has a situation where he says he sees a homeless guy. You heard the description. But, you know, us cops, we're trained to definitely pay attention to body language and their behavior. And it seems as though he's kind of high-rung, right? A little bit stressed out, kind of hyper. And, you know, we're going to investigate the surrounding areas to see if there is a homeless person, maybe a suspect. Who knows? Let's see what happens. >> Which way did he go? You know, >> I just saw him go down this way. I don't know where he went after that. >> Oh, after that. Okay. >> Yeah. >> Did he say anything to you? Was he like, "Hey, open the door." Or anything like that? >> No, he didn't say [ __ ] He was just trying to [ __ ] kick it in, which is crazy to me because that's never happened in 5 years. >> Uh, do you have footprints at the door? >> Uh, you can check. I didn't really look. I got my firearm tied, too, so I snatched up before you guys came up. Well, >> appreciate it. Yeah. [clears throat] >> Yeah. Nothing. Okay. >> And you said you saw him through this this right here. >> Yeah. Watch. Okay. Where's your Where's your gun? Right there. Oh, I won't touch it. Close that door real quick. >> I'm gonna take it on. >> Yeah, that's fine, brother. Close that door and look for the people. >> Yeah, that's good, man. >> Do your thing. >> Sorry [clears throat] about that. >> You're good. But tell me look first and tell if I see the same [ __ ] and then tell me I'm [ __ ] crazy. Okay, if you look through the peepphole to the left, there's two little [ __ ] things in the hallway. Little girl, you see it walking out in the hallway? >> I don't, brother. >> No. Still [ __ ] there. >> Just try. >> You want me to? >> Yeah. >> Just take a take a look at the people. >> Far left of the hallway. You're >> good. You're good. >> Nothing. Why not, brother? And did you did you hear this? >> Oh, yeah. No, I heard it. Like I said, two knocks, I open the door, nothing. Two knocks, open the door, nothing. Just always magically gone. >> And I did see him run down that one hallway, but I don't know where he went from there. >> Yeah, cuz down the stairs. >> We were here within >> less than 10 minutes. >> I know you were. >> Yeah. >> And the final when he heard me on the phone with APD, he booked it. That's when we booked it. >> Sean, are you diagnosed anything? >> No, dude. That's what I'm saying. I know that sounds crazy, but no, I'm not, man. Like, I just It's weird. >> Very good question. Now, let's get into perhaps maybe a medical diagnosis. Uh you're suffering from a mental episode, any illnesses, are you taking any medication? Have you been uh hospitalized or any of that sort because as you can tell, the story is far-fetched, right? No crime. Uh is he able to take care of himself? Uh or uh is he uh harm to others, harm to himself? Those are all important questions because you definitely want to leave uh with all the questions being answered and make sure that he gets the necessary help he needs, right? Uh but so far you don't have anything. So let's see what happens. >> It's really [ __ ] weird. >> Definitely right. And then that's why it's not when you hand it to the people. Okay. >> Yeah. Yeah, it it was that like I said [laughter] the physical homeless dude knock come out disappeared disappear disappear and then once he left I was still the kind of people pull for him come back up and I just saw those little things in the corner. >> Have you taken anything tonight? Any medicine? Anything like that? >> No, I don't take medication. I think the last drink I had was at like 4:00 this afternoon yesterday. >> Okay. Any drugs or anything like that? Alcohol? >> Not once. >> Do you drink at all? Yeah, I I do drink, but like I said, 4:00 almost 12 hours ago. >> Have you ever talked to a psychiatrist or anything? >> No. Would you? And here's here's why I asked, right? Okay. Because I I don't want you I don't want you to continue to see those things. And I'm not saying what you heard or anything wasn't real. That's not what I'm I'm not dismissing anything that you seen or heard by any means, okay? I'm just not seeing it. I'm not hearing it. That's fine. We were here within minutes. The only thing I heard was him. I didn't hear anything else. I just saw like the girl in the chick in the hallway. Like it was it was just [ __ ] super weird because that's never happened to me. Not one time. >> 911 emergency. >> Yeah. I've got a couple of kids using toy drones to like unscrew my [ __ ] locks on my front door. >> What is they doing? >> I don't know. They're they're using mini mini drones to try and unlock my front door while I sleep. Like cuz it beats through the door. >> Are they there now? Uh, they just ran off cuz they heard me calling you guys, but I know where they live. >> Okay. What's your address? >> It's a one60 loop northwest. >> 1060 COA Loop Northwest. Is that correct? >> Yes. Apartment. >> Yes. >> And what apartment number are you in? >> I'm in 1537. I don't know their apartment number, but I can point right at it as soon as I get here because I saw plane on it earlier. So, >> Okay. And you said how long ago was this that they were doing this? >> Oh, they just stopped as soon as I got on the phone with you. They've been torching me for like an hour and a half. You see, they're doing it again right now. They're trying to open my door handle. >> What is your name? >> Sean. S E. >> Your last name? >> Omera. O. >> And what's your date of birth? >> Uh 101486. >> Do you live alone? >> Stop playing with my door. >> Yes, I do. Yes, ma'am. Sorry. I've had to tell these girls for the past two hours, stop playing with my lock. See, there they are again. And they'll they'll knock and they'll open it and they won't be there. >> Okay. >> Yep. >> Exactly. >> Stop playing with my door handle. >> No animals. Stop. Leave my locks alone. Leave it alone. Now she's trying to unscrew the actual bolt itself so the bolt comes out the door. >> Okay. Before we go any further, as far as a dispatch's concerned, what you'll also want to do while you're responding again to the same address is he might be a chronic caller is what we call it, right? It's what we label it. Chronic meaning that he's constantly calling 911. What you want to be able to do is get a history of all the calls that have been made from that address, okay? and start building somewhat of a story that perhaps again he's suffering from a mental episode, something along those lines. And you know, we got to be careful because cops that already responded know that there that he is armed, that he has a weapon. Okay, >> police department. >> Hey, Charlott, please. Yeah, man. They see drones in the house. >> I sound like they [ __ ] me crazy. It's [ __ ] drones, dude. >> Uh, yeah. [ __ ] drones. They're outside taunting my name again earlier. And I I went to open my door and I caught one in the [ __ ] door. I just signed the door. They just keep coming though. And they're playing tunes, [ __ ] up the clocks, the [ __ ] TE's, the internet. So, it wasn't Purple Ghost, but they project purple ghost over there. >> Did you say you popped one? >> Yeah, I popped one. It's their super tiny machine. Looks like they took the piece with them cuz they had the little arm in the doorway. But yeah, they just project [ __ ] ghosts and [ __ ] and [ __ ] people like you. And when I said there was somebody up here [ __ ] then ran out, broke the door, they were gone. So it's them projecting images from those drones. And they're tiny as [ __ ] too. >> Where are they running? >> I'll take the apartment right now. I know exactly what the [ __ ] they live. I don't I don't know what they're running cuz they project images and hide it out over there. >> Do you know their names? >> I don't I don't even know who the [ __ ] they are. How they know me is my question. So why are they talking to me every day? I just spent two and a half hours trying [ __ ] to hold my locks closed. >> To make sure they won't come in. >> That's it. >> To make sure they won't come. >> Yeah. Let me grab a shirt. Your [ __ ] pair of shoes. Here we go. >> And you know exactly which apartment it is. >> I know exactly which apartment it is. That thing is looking at me, too. Oh, it's a coffee machine. Look. Coffee machine. Way up. >> Sean, when was the last time you slept, man? Yesterday I was getting ready to go to sleep right now like 5:30 and she would let me sleep cuz every time I come in here to go to sleep she fixed the locks and come in my room. >> But my partners were here earlier with your shop. You know it seems like you haven't slept since. >> Uh no I slept for a little while. >> Did you? >> I did. It's just [ __ ] annoying and exhausting. >> I get you, man. It would be annoying that some someone that's trying to bug you, you know. >> And now I know that I'm not a [ __ ] crazy person because of what those things do. >> Yeah. And we don't think you're crazy at all, bro. Like my thing is Sean, I feel like you're going through a crisis right now, you know? >> Dude, as soon as you guys leave, she's just gonna do it again. >> And that's my concern, Sean. Like, if once we if we leave, man, you're going to call us again, which without doubt. You keep calling us if you need us. But you did mention that they bit you. >> Well, they if they touch you, they sting you. It's not really a bite. They sting you and they blow up. >> The drones? >> Yeah. Yes. That's exactly the car's drones. Many drones out that big. Okay. >> So, you didn't get bit? >> I didn't get a picture. No. Okay. Like I said, I was getting ready to do that, but as soon as I go in there, she can pick all three of those locks, the handle and the two locks cuz you got a little arm that reaches in and pulls it. Yeah, >> it's weird cuz they're like [ __ ] so tiny. But [panting] >> and Sean, you haven't taken any narcotics, been drinking. >> I haven't been drinking anything until my mom's coming to town. So, >> and are you diagnosed with anything? >> I don't know. >> Just really frantic right now. >> I know. And I'm worried and I'm worried for you. >> I'm just pissed, man. As soon as you guys leave, I'll calm down. But I just know they're probably going to do the good. >> Okay. >> So, I mean, I don't even go all the way. We can all just point to which one it is and >> so we'll do that. Do you feel like you have somewhere else to stay tonight, Sean? If you feel like, cuz I feel safe here. >> If I do that, she's just going to come in and [ __ ] with all my [ __ ] I'm going to come back tomorrow, find things, move around, and [ __ ] work's [ __ ] up. Sean, you know, like I mentioned before, like whenever it comes to the criteria, we could take you, you know, or lock or anything, but as of right now, that doesn't it doesn't m meet the criteria for us. Okay. [clears throat] >> Cuz from what you say, you feel safe in your home? >> I do. What >> do you feel safe in your home? >> Uh yeah, I feel safe. I'm just annoyed, but >> Okay. Let me stop right here and address that criteria that the officer is talking about. Uh here in the state of California, we call that a 5150 hold. Uh where you can involuntarily hold an individual uh for up to 72 hours to conduct a mental health evaluation. Uh the criteria is you got to be a danger to yourself, danger to others, and gravely disabled. He's almost there. Now, with all that being said, still make those phone calls, make those notifications, and if you happen to be in a law enforcement uh agency that has a clinician riding around with an officer, I know we do in LAPD, and there's other agencies that have followed that model, then give them a call and have them respond. Uh, and your best bet is not to leave without exhausting all the necessary remedies that you can provide them. That's good. You ever thought of harming yourself? >> I do. So, how often do you think about that now? >> Oh, think about opting to myself. I think I take care of myself. No, I never thought about myself. >> Great. Good to hear. Good to hear. Especially from my yourself, man. Thank you for your service, by the way. >> Um, >> just making me look dumb. I'm not a crazy person. >> No, I know. >> I'm not saying you're crazy. Okay. Don't tell yourself you're crazy. Don't don't don't ever think that way, okay? I just want to make sure when we leave here, right, in a few minutes, if we come back, Sean, it's going to be a whole different situation, okay? cuz that's going to be the >> So, what am I supposed to do? Keep doing this [ __ ] until you come back and she [ __ ] disappears again. Like, >> and like I mentioned, okay, like as of right now, we I don't have anything to take you. But I am going to ask this. Would you like further resources from us? >> No, not right now cuz I know I'm fine. >> Okay. Do you know about ECS? >> No. >> Albert Community Safety? >> Oh, I do know. Yeah, because I used to work at UPS town. So, those guys were running around all the time. >> Are you know what they're Do you know what they're aware of? Like what they could do? Dude, I don't do that. >> I'm sorry. Don't >> you don't um I mean I I know what it has. I don't need it. I'm fine. It's just just one person. >> And how many weapons do you have in the home? Like firearms? >> Uh two three. >> Three. Okay. >> At any point in time, have you ever attempt to shoot something? >> No. I want you always keep your firearm. The rifle's under the bed cuz I don't know gun safe. It's it's so my concealed carry is in the nightstand and that brown so it's on top of the nightstand. Okay. >> Albuquerque police operator 4160. >> How can I help you? >> I'm calling from the California Highway Patrol in San Diego. Have a caller on the line with an emergency there. Uh I guess her brother is in drinking and having hallucinations. >> Okay. >> Are you able to get her to the right place? >> Yes. >> Well, dependent on the address. What's the address? But I can direct her. >> Okay. I have Kira on the line. She'll go and provide the address and then you can take it from there. >> Okay. >> Yes. Hi. >> Hi, ma'am. Do you have an address of where you want us to do a welfare checkout? >> Yes. Um, the address is 106 I O L A L O P Northwest. Apartment 1537 87114. >> Give me one second. >> Okay. Who is it we're checking on? >> His name is Sean. S E A N. Last name Omera. And he I know he has firearms in his home. >> Okay. Well done. >> And he's been drinking. >> Okay. We'll get there. Did you talk to him today? Did he text you or how did you find out he has guns? >> Well, I he just we've always known he has guns, but he just text me right now and said that there's home intruders and I know he's hallucinating. >> Okay. But there's home intruders. >> 911. >> Hello 911. >> Hello 911. I dropped the weapon. I dropped the weapon here. >> Hello, 911. Oh god. [laughter] Oh [ __ ] We have to fight. I can't rest. [ __ ] Okay, I'm coming. I got my back. He's shooting out the balcony, dude. >> Yeah, he's shooting out the back. >> Dude, that cracked over our head. Okay. So, as you can see, there's a SWAT call out. Okay. And one of the best practices is definitely what I learned back in LAPD is the four C's, right? Contain, communicate, coordinate, and call out. Now, the criteria for the most part is when uh the suspect has a position of advantage. As you can see, he's shooting from the balcony. So the approach they specialize in stuff like this because they are always training uh for such events right. So let's see what happens. the ball. >> I'm only going to be able to do that. >> And before I forget, he has barricaded himself. Okay, which is also part of their criteria. But I can tell you just from across that having the position of advantage, the suspect that is, it's definitely going to be a SWAT call out. >> That one, dude. >> Yeah. >> Right here. A little bit further up. >> All I can hit is one then behind me. Yeah. You can hit that one. Come on. Come on. One more. >> Let me get that other. What did he say? As you can see, those are tear gas rounds in hopes to get the suspect to stop all his actions. Right. Look, you want a safe outcome. You really do. >> One more. >> As you can see, this is uh the video from a drone where it's depicting that it looks to me like he grabbed the u the gas tank, right? And he's probably going to try to blow something up. Uh he's unarmed. Uh he's got a tag vest on uh from back in his military days. He did mention he was in the military. Uh, and I don't know, man, but that behavior is very erratic and uh, that dynamic approach is going to be pretty interesting. Okay. Still looks very distraught. As you can tell, he hasn't had any sleep. >> Male is in the thresholds continuing to talk. He is back inside. >> It appears he's making his way towards the door. He went to the right. And I'm sure and the video hasn't depicted that you got to call CNT, a crisis negotiation team uh to be able to build that rapport with Shawn uh in hopes that he comes out and again in a safe manner. Lives matter here. You know, the preservation of life is key. Just have him come out uh put your hands up and that way uh it it doesn't become a tragedy. Yeah, you're good. >> Okay, so let's go ahead and wrap up this particular incident, this video that we just watched. Uh, the question I definitely have is why did cops engage in deadly force with a man who kept calling 911 for help with intruders that weren't even there? Okay, look, the answer is when the persons in crisis starts firing live ammunition, the police response is no longer about the story in his head. Okay, it's about stopping the rounds that can go through walls into neighbors apartments or at other officers standing outside. Okay, that's why this ended the way it did. Not because the cops ignored a cry for help, because the cry for help turned into a major major exchange of gunfire. Okay. Now, going back to the first case, uh the question that we had was if a cop gets shot in the head on a routine stop, do they just drop and the fight's over? Okay. Now, the answer to that is look, Officer Holloway, heroic act on his part. A head shot is not automatically the end of the encounter whatsoever. Okay. Officers are trained. We are all trained to keep fighting, keep talking, and keep the public safe even while there's the one who just got hit. Okay? To fight to survive. I remember back in my academy days, my tactics instructors will always say, "You never go hungry, and you're always going to go home." That's why routine stops aren't routine whatsoever, and why backup and medical response matter as much as the first officer on scene. Okay? This video is a reminder that the job, okay, as a cop doesn't pause just because you're wounded. Okay? Please be safe out there. Okay, so Antoine was sentenced to about 36 and a2 years in prison and officer Holloway survived the headshot and was medically retired. Okay, so Shawn died after SWAT officers fired when he came out with a rifle. This officer involved shooting remains under investigation.
