ON MARCH 28TH, 2023, officers from the Smith County, Texas Sheriff's Office attempted a traffic stop on 29-year-old Cody Voss. Voss, who was driving without functioning tail lights, pulled into the driveway of his friend, 37-year-old Derek Phillips. Both Cody and Derek immediately resisted the officers' request for identification and general information, which quickly escalated into events that would lead to both being arrested and charged with a variety of crimes.
