We just stopped her because she passed the first set of doors. >> How would I even run with these bags? It's humanly impossible. >> Okay. >> Did you go past the double doors? >> No. Not once only. Not even completely. Can I >> Can I buy the stuff? >> No. >> And >> no. Please, please don't do this. On May 1st, 2025, officers with the Algangquin Police Department were called to a local Target after a woman was caught trying to make a not so grand escape with thousands of dollars in unpaid merchandise. Here's what unfolded next. >> I'm working on a training machine right now. >> Are they back there still? >> No, they're right here. >> Okay. Are they in the office still? >> Yes, they're still in the office. >> How much we looking at? >> More than 300. Okay, she ripped off the text. >> Hello. How are you? >> So, this is Annayia. This is the info she gave me. She said she does not have an ID on her. She's been in the store about 7 hours or so. She said she's waiting for someone to pick her up. She's visiting here. She said she doesn't live here. She's from India. She's with family. They're coming to pick her up still. So, basically, she's been in the store. We've been watching for at least 4 hours. She's taken a ton of merchandise, different kinds. We're getting a total right now for you. It'll be well over 500, I'm sure. >> Could be more. >> You're right. Yeah. >> And then she kept getting really close to the door. She'd stand there. She did that. And then she came back in the store, went shopping, and then eventually we just stopped her because she passed the first set of doors, went into the vestibule. We stopped her in the vestibule, brought her back here. She's saying that she was still planning to pay for it. Um, >> okay. What do you guys want done? >> We're going to prosecute a trespass. >> Okay. >> We just paid for it and >> that's that's not happening. So, you don't have any sort of Illinois ID, anything like that? I'm not from this country. >> Okay. Well, there's a lot of people who aren't from this country that still have stuff. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> I can only do is I don't mind paying for it, everything, and then leaving. >> No, that's not happening. >> Can't do that. We lost that opportunity. >> Despite her refusing the idea that she was doing anything wrong, she's got thousands of dollars in unpaid goods sitting right in front of her. But when the cops tried to get her ID, she won't make that easy for them. just pay for it. We're way way way past that. You committed a felony. >> But if I'm paying for it, what is the harm? >> It would have been fine if you didn't leave, right? You would have had that opportunity to pay, but because you left the store at that point, you chose to not pay for it and we can't go back. >> So now, how do you order it or what do you do? >> You can't come back to Target. You can go to Walmart or Meer or Kohl's or you're going to have to find a different store to shop. >> But again, you made that decision. >> Where do you live? >> India. >> Who are you staying with right now? Where does your family live? >> Family is in India. >> How did you get here? On the flight? >> On the flight? >> Yeah. >> So, you're here by yourself? >> Yeah. >> They let you fly over without a passport? >> Of course, I have one. >> You have a passport? It's How do I copy the passport and roam around? >> Okay. Well, it's your passport. >> I don't have a passport right now. >> So, you flew here from India to America. >> Exactly. But the passport is not with me in this bag. >> Do you have a picture of it? >> Listen, I don't want to get into any trouble. >> Yeah, we're Well, it's too late for that, girl. Pull up the passport. >> No, but then what am I supposed to do? >> That's none of my business. I don't know. You shouldn't have been stealing stuff. I've not yet done anything. >> Oh, you have. Pull up your passport. >> For what? What do I do? >> Okay. So, you can pull up your passport now or we're going to take you back to the station and you can pull up your passport there. >> Please don't. I'm really >> It's really It's too late. Can you please just pull your passport? >> He just You promised me that nothing is going to happen. >> I did not promise you anything. >> Of course. You said that nothing. You once we do this thing, you will leave. >> I No. I said as soon as we're done with our recording, we'll try to get you out of here as soon as we can. >> Yeah. You said you'll you won't be allowed. >> We're not going to fight with him. We're not arguing. >> We're not going to fight with him. >> So, what do you want me to do? >> I need you to pull up your passport. I need to see valid identification for you. >> And then >> and then you will be going back to the station with us. I need to see your identification. >> Please don't protect me. >> That's that's simply not going to happen. You made lots of poor choices today and now you have to pay for >> He said he's not going to put me in the station. >> Well, that's not He doesn't work for us. I don't know who this man is. >> I'm really sorry. I'm ready to pay for this >> again. I understand you're sorry. I know you're ready to pay for it now, but you didn't want to pay for it then. So, I need you to give me your identification. I'm really sorry. >> The woman tries to bargain her way out of the situation like she did with the cards. But when the officers don't buy her Saab stories, she suddenly turns on the staff. >> He was getting her receipt. How long? >> I mean, there's a lot of stuff. She's just scanning it all into her. >> But she one second. He promised me that you can leave once it's scanned. >> Simply none of my business. That has nothing to do with our job. >> So, what do you want me to do? >> Passport, please. So what are all those other things that you were just swiping by? >> No, that's all Indian documents. I don't have my I can show you my license here. Your license. >> Okay. So who's who's Jamisha? Me. >> So So who's Ana? >> This is my name also. But this is my Jamisha. You can see my picture. This is me. So this is not your first name. >> No. Okay. That's nice. >> Instead of spending 7 hours wandering around Target. If this lady instead spent some of that time using free cash, she would have ended up with cash instead of cuffs. I know free cash has gotten some backlash on YouTube recently. They put out a statement that I'll link down below, but I actually looked into their business model myself, and it's less scam and more why didn't anybody explain this better. Now, let's see what our favorite target menace is up to. Now, >> please don't embarrass me, ma'am. >> I think your own choices are even going to embarrass you. It has nothing to do with me. >> So, what do I have to do if I have to? What do you want me to do? I'm ready to even pay for it. >> It's not does not work like that. I don't know why you keep saying the same thing over and over again. >> So, what do you want me to do? >> I just want you to be quiet for right now. >> I'm not from this country. I'm not going to be staying here. >> Okay. Are you allowed to steal things in India? >> No, I didn't think so. >> Okay. The community came. I returned back. Like I said, I was just waiting. I've not gone away. How would I even run with these bags? It's humanly impossible. >> Okay, >> they're almost done. They're about 767. >> 767? If it is that much, I don't mind paying you. >> Look, I don't know why you keep saying that over and over again. I told you many times we are past that. >> I'm ready to pay for the merchandise and leave the store. >> No, I don't know how you keep repeating that. I told you no. >> So then what do you want me to do? I told you you're going to be coming back to the police station with us. >> Please don't do that. >> That's my job. >> What do I go to the police station and do? >> Ma'am, you're going to be criminally charged. >> I'm really sorry. I don't mind paying for the merchandise. >> Okay, I'm I'm done talking to you because you just keep repeating the same things over and over again. And I keep telling you that that's not an option. We can't do that. So, I'm not going to be acknowledging that anymore because I'm already determined we're not doing that. She keeps trying to play this off like one big misunderstanding. But when that doesn't work, she pulls her own version of logic. And that's when her entitlement really starts to show. >> Let me just pay for the merchandise now. Please. >> It's way too late to pay for it. >> Why? What is the harm? >> I had many registers to choose from. It's too late. >> I don't mind paying the for the merchandise and I'm I'm not going to come back again. Let me just pay for the merchandise and finish it. I need to take these goods for everyone at home. Can I just purchase the merchandise? [clears throat] >> At the 7-Eleven had the stuff. Did you go past the double doors? So, >> no. Not once only. You mean not even completely? >> Before I ask any more questions. Okay. I will explain this to you. I'm not asking the hospital. [clears throat] >> Few times she came up and stopped right here. I think she was a good I don't know. And then she went back back in grabbed stuff came back. And the last time she went all the way around, came back behind one of these things. >> Take me to the station. Yeah, please. You're gonna pick me up somewhere from Target. >> Okay, we we can call somebody once you get back there. Okay, once we get back there, it's a lot of paperwork. Sometimes it's dependent. If we do our paperwork, sometimes you can leave. Okay, once our paperwork is done, then you leave. Then you can call somebody to pick you up from the station, which is not >> I don't want anybody to pick me up from the station. I'm >> Then you can call an Uber. Then you can call an Uber and have someone else pick you up. If you don't want anyone else picking you up from the station, then you have to call an Uber somebody because, you know, you got to get out of our custody somehow. So, you're not going to have to go anywhere tonight. You'll be able to go home, but you can go somewhere, wherever you want to go, but somebody else is going to have to come pick you up. Did you drive here? >> How'd you get here? >> They drove me. >> Then they can help you figure it out or you can call an Uber or whatever. You'd think after 7 hours of retail therapy, her yap tank would finally be empty, but somehow she still had enough fuel left to keep this negotiation going. >> Can we just please? >> Uh, that was her phone number. >> How do we go to the station? >> You'll ride in the car with us >> and then be there for how long? >> Well, until we get the paperwork done. Sometimes it's maybe an hour. [music] >> What do I tell them? You can tell them whatever you want. >> You have to at least be helpful if I've done run away or something. >> I have to be helpful. >> I'm at least you can be I know youall are being very helpful. But I just need to you all to help me if first of all not from this country. If I'm not carrying money or something, it's a different thing. I have money to pay also. >> Can he explain that to you? I'm sorry that you're from a different country, but like you said, you're not allowed to steal in India either. Most places do not really appreciate thieves. >> Of course you don't. you if you walk out and if if I walked out and I ran away yet I'm just coming. He came running. I was like what's happening? I was on a call. Where are these people? I don't mind paying for it. You can see the video. I don't mind paying for it and finishing it off. I need to take these articles for as gifting. I promise there won't be anything. It's over. I just need to pay and finish it. Please let me pay and take this now. Sir, >> thank you. I like this. >> Can I pay for this and finish it? What do you think the answer is going to be? >> I don't know. >> It's going to be no, just like it was the other 15 times. >> I got to take a picture real quick. Okay. >> What? >> Just for you for Target's records. Thank you. >> He should have just told me, "Ma'am, you're going. Can you just finish paying for it?" I was on a call. I would have finished it. >> Can I buy the stuff? >> No. And >> no. But just when it seemed like she was about to talk the officers into retirement, the employee finally walked in with the receipt and her little misunderstanding finally got a total. >> Oh, just kidding. [laughter] We got the receipt. The total 13 before 13. >> I don't mind being dead. >> Stop. All right. [clears throat] I'm going have you take your bag off and put it right here. >> Why? >> Take the bag off and put it right there. I told you what's going to happen. Stand up on you. No, no eyes, nothing like that. >> No, not just face me. >> Hey, please. Please don't do this. >> Don't resist. It's not going to go well for you. Why? >> Just when you take things without permission. That's a crime. >> But what do I what do I do now? For how long is it going to be? >> Hang on. It's probably going to be one maybe 2 hours. Okay. It depends on how quick the paper process works. >> Please, I'm requesting you. What do I tell the family? >> I don't I don't know what to tell you. >> Come here. Yeah. Do not resist. You're going to catch an extra charge. Don't do that. Just keep walking. >> More charging. >> This is yours. >> Yeah. >> Great. >> It's going to be very embarrassing. Please, ma'am. >> I understand that it's embarrassing. I wouldn't steal either. >> What do you want me to do now? >> You're going to go to the station and you're going to be processed. >> What do you do in this criminal? What is that? >> You'll have to go to court. >> But at least let me know how. Do I need to call somebody? >> You need to call somebody later when we're done with all the paperwork. >> I need to go back home. >> You should have thought about that. But I don't if you keep me forever or something. >> No, we're not going to keep you forever. >> Please. I have a daughter who's 20. >> Well, we should have be a better role model, right? >> Yeah, but then please help me. >> I'm not going to help you. Why would I help you? >> I'm not going to run away. Why you keeping this? Keeping what? >> This was going to run away for $1,300. Instead of taking home gifts for the whole family, the only thing she left with was a court date after being charged with felony retail theft. But this next Target shoplifter thought she wasn't catchable. >> I don't Can I get my receipt, sir? >> Right here. >> Do you have your receipt or no? >> I'm not with her, so I don't know what they have going on. On June 24th, 2024, police with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office were urgently called to a Target store after loss prevention reported that two women were trying to leave the store with a cart full of stolen goods. But as deputies approached them, nothing could have prepared them for what happened next. >> Ma'am, wait right there. >> I pay for my stuff. Let me see your receipt. >> I did it off the card. >> Hold on. Let me see your receipt. >> Okay, let me get my receipt. >> Cuz y'all don't do nobody. >> I don't Can I get my receipt, sir? >> I'm going to get my receipt. You don't have to touch me. >> You're going to go right there. >> Okay, I'm going to get Okay. Okay, that's fine. I'll show you my receipt. >> You got it over there. Why do you have to go to your car? >> Because I got it on my phone, sir. >> Okay, then show me on your phone. >> Okay, >> stop. >> I don't. >> Okay, that's fine. Do you have your receipt? >> No, I I just I just came. I'm not with her. >> Okay. Do you have your receipt or No, >> I'm not with her, so I don't know what you have going on. >> Listen, listen to me. Two separate things. Listen, I don't know what they have going on. They have nothing. Okay, >> that's what I'm saying. >> That's what I'm asking you. If you >> I don't have I don't know what's going on. >> Stop and listen to me. If you didn't steal, do you HAVE A RECEIPT? >> YES, I HAVE MY RECEIPT. But I'm trying to figure out why he running out to me. I don't even I don't even know where >> Where is your receipt? >> It's in my purse. But I'm saying I don't even know them. >> Let me have your receipt then. I'll get you out of here in 10 seconds. >> I DON'T WHY SHOW MY RECEIPT? I don't even know. >> Let me have your receipt. >> Watching her turn a simple receipt check into a Broadway performance. The officer already had a pretty good idea that she was lying. But before he could confirm it, she decided to pull a fast one on him. >> Okay, give me a second. I give you like what the I'm going to give it to you, sir. >> Stop and give me the receipt right now. >> Can you I'm going to give it to you, sir. >> WHAT IS SHE DOING? STOP. I'M GOING TO GIVE IT TO YOU, SIR. YOU HAVE TO DO THAT. >> GET DOWN. You have to do that. I'm telling you. I'M GOING TO GIVE IT TO YOU. I'M going to give you Stop. Keep going. >> You open me. >> Stay on. Put your HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK. >> GET OUT OF ME. >> PUT YOUR HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK. >> I'M GOING TO GIVE IT >> STOP. >> I'm going to give it to you. >> STOP. >> YO. >> PUT YOUR hands behind your back now. >> I'm going to give it to you. You ain't give no nothing now. >> Damn. Y'all doing the mode, bro. I'm going to give it to you, bro. I'm going to give Y'ALL THE RECEIPT. >> SHUT UP ABOUT THE RECEIPT. THAT time has passed. I asked you for it. >> YEAH, I WAS TRYING TO GIVE IT TO YOU. I'M GOING TO GIVE YOU THE RECEIPT, SIR. >> I don't know where this one started fighting with me and took off. >> No, I was trying to give you the receipt and you grabbed me. >> I don't know where the other one is. >> Sit down. >> If you run again, you have a lot more problems. >> I'm not going to run. Miss >> with one woman detained and the other disappearing faster than a clearance item. Deputies secured her in the patrol car while the rest of the team tried to track down her missing partner. >> About $800. >> Okay. And you guys want to prosecute? >> Absolutely. >> You know where the other one went? >> Uh she took off when she started running. So she went which way? >> West side. >> You know she went out. No compliment. >> What's the description of the other one? with the black dress. >> Black came out with a black dress. Not sure which went. >> We'll pass the receipt. Just bring her back to the car. >> We'll probably give you the receipt. >> We'll pass the receipt at this point. You understand that, right? >> No, I left her when I saw you fighting. >> Give you the receipt, bro. >> Yeah, she was 10 over there and then I left when she was fighting him. >> I wasn't fighting him. I was trying to get the receipt, but he grabbed me. >> Shut up with the receipt. >> What you mean shut up? >> She was talking about with the gray with the with the black Honda. >> Black Ultima. Uh, I don't see where it is. just from prior incidents. That's the vehicle they'll be using. >> What was that? >> Is that the second one right there? >> I think that's it actually. Yeah. >> Hey, check that one right there. Check that black vehicle. See if it has damage to the trunk. >> Oh, the Nissan. >> No, I was trying to give him the receipt soon as I tried because he tried to grab me and I was trying to tell him to let me go. I was going to give him the receipt. You >> got anything else in your pockets? >> No. >> The back of my hand. All right. >> Huh? He's in the back of my hand. >> Bro, I was literally going to give him my receipt and he grabbed me. >> Okay. You could have g him the receipt. That's what I was trying to do, but he grabbed me. >> Like I said, stay to that. Okay, you stick to that one. You try to run. Why? >> Because he tried to grab me. What is he grabbing me for? All right, >> put your feet in. We got the AC running down. >> Okay. Can I I don't want to feel claustrophobic because I do have a heart mama. >> You're going to have to go in there. >> I know. I understand. I just want to catch my breath real quick. >> Catch your breath real quick. Good. Now put him in to come over here and wipe your arm down. AT FIRST, this looked like one messy target run, but after speaking with loss prevention, deputies realized this wasn't their first trip around the bullseye. >> There's a broken chain. I don't know if that's from the tussle or whatever, but it's a broken chain. And the two sandals are right over there. >> Yeah. Yeah, that's where she started. >> And I have her key right here in the back pocket. The the Nissan. >> Did you find her purse? >> I didn't find a purse. I found the key. >> She had a purse on her. So, basically I So, >> which way did she go? Sorry, backtrack. I'll take >> So, I'm sorry. I thought you talking about the one that I fought with. No, there was somebody here. I don't know which direction she went. My training was talking with her. >> Get LP to figure out which way she went. >> All I remember is black female cuz I focused on her. You think she was wear all black? I'll try to find out. >> Yeah. Did you see which way she went after we went after the other girl? >> Uh, she went west side, but I I wasn't paying attention to it. I was watching guys chase her down. >> Were they together? >> Yeah, they always come in together pushing two separate parts. >> Yeah. So the second one she came out and so Mike, my trainee, spoke with the first one and then I saw the other one come. I said, "Is she involved?" He goes, "Yeah." And she starts going this way. They start separating. So I walked up to my girl. I'm like, "Hey, stop." She goes, "I ain't with her." Starts freaking out. She's like, "I ain't steal nothing. I don't know what that is." I said, "Show me a receipt." I said, "You got a receipt? I'll get you out of here right now." I got it into my purse. Okay, give it to me. So she starts backing up. So I come around the car. I said, "Stop. Show me a receipt." I'm going to show you a receipt. And she kept backing up. I said, "Stop." So that's when I grabbed her wrist. She pulled away. I grabbed her sweater. It came off and she took on one. >> I can't breathe. Sir, I can't breathe. >> What did the other one look like? Did you see her? >> Yeah. I was right here. She's wearing like a really tight one piece dress. She's here somewhere cuz she didn't get in that car. When I was asking her for a seat, she started walking down there. >> Yep. Saw one. >> As soon as I saw Lav her, I I booked it over there and chased her. That one hauled ass over there, too. And then that's where I chased her, knocked her down over there. They went over that way. She hauled ass that way. This one was initially trying to go that way. So, I don't know if they walked over there or something. Right over there and stand out. Just an updated description on the one that's not 12. She's wearing like a light brown tight maybe thigh length dress, possibly a bonnet. She looked like she may have been pregnant and she had a chest tattoo. >> Not really. That's as I can make. Forget it. >> Oh, sir. Would you please shut me? Get back in the seat. Lean back to your left. Come on. Step on out. There you go. Hard to tell. She was >> Did you get shot? >> After searching for a while, deputies eventually had to call off the hunt for the second woman. Luckily, they still had her partner in custody, so they brought her back to the station to find out where she could be. But getting that answer from her wouldn't be so easy. >> I wanted to talk to you about a couple incidents that happened previous to this date. I don't know if you want to speak about them or not. I don't know if you're interested in speaking about what happened today or in previous dates. >> I know what you're talking about. >> Hm. What you talking about? >> About shoplifting. So, I can Miranda you first. Um, if you want to talk to me, that's fine. >> I don't want to talk. >> What's up? >> I don't want to talk. I'm good. >> All right. Then we won't speak. Um, it is 1741 hours. >> As if getting ghosted by her friend wasn't embarrassing enough. She was charged with grand theft and released on bond. But when her court date came around, she apparently learned from the best and disappeared, too. Next, meet this crafty shoplifter who allegedly got away with the same Target scam 35 times. Back on August 9th, 2023, dispatch received a call from a local Target regarding a woman actively stealing [music] from the store. But as officers rushed inside the store, nothing could have prepared them for how quickly this [music] shoplifting call was about to fall apart. >> Hey guys, >> what's up? >> Got a lady, she ticket switches stuff. She's she ticket switches using sock barcodes usually. What was it? >> Like 2400. >> We have a name for her. I'm not sure if it's 100% accurate, but we have her as Thema Grant. >> Thelma Grant. >> Yes, >> that's a old name. >> Yeah, she's old lady. I don't feel bad for her though. She's She knows what she's doing. Like she's been doing this for a while. Like just to give you some insight, $2,400 in the back. >> How many? No. 32 incidences. >> Yeah. So she's been doing this for a while. See, usually what she does is she grabs like little stock barcodes that are like a dollar, a little bit less. She'll put that on whatever else she's buying. >> And then she'll actually go through the checkout line. >> But she'll scan the socks. >> Yeah. She scans the socks like 50 times. Yeah. >> So, wash this skin and can you pull up like what all >> Yeah, we can. >> She's been doing this for so long that we have all these different incidents on her. >> She's been here a while already. >> Um, she's been in here for I came up on lunch. She's been in here for like 30 minutes. I'm expecting her to head to the front soon. >> Is she a nurse? >> Really? >> I have no idea. I know the last time she came in though she was wearing scrubs. So, that's kind of how I picked up on her today. I was like, "Okay, same scrubs." She's She's been hitting us forever. like her incident started 2020. So, she's been doing this for 3 years now. I think she's doing the switching in there where she's changing the barcodes out cuz what she did is she selected like an abundance of those, >> but she has tape them on. >> Well, they're sticky is what it is. So, um those 50 cent cups and the 50 cent bowls, like the little plastic ones. >> Oh, yeah. >> She selected a lot of those. So, what I'm thinking cuz I've never seen her be. What she's probably doing is taking the barcodes off of those and putting them putting them onto the apparel items that she selected and the other stuff so she can pay 50 cents for those. >> After hearing she'd been playing the same roulette for years, officers knew this wasn't just some one-time mistake. But before they could move in, the employee pulled up the live footage and showed them this. I know you guys technically could pull her for defacing the merchandise, but we don't want to do that cuz it's just Target won't let us do that. But my boss did give us permission like if she for some reason like sees the cop car or something, she abandons it. We will we can for trespass. >> All right. So, oh yeah, she's taking we're good. >> So, see that? Look at that's a big black bowl that she scanned. That's a small white little cup that she scanned. So, we're good. >> Let's just wait till she passed off points of sale. 24 we have >> Can you guys tell the difference? So you see that's a big black bowl and this is like a small white cup. Yeah. So she's still doing the cup. So we're good. We just need her to leave now. Perfect. This is the cup. >> She dumped them. She left them like she >> left them where she dumped the other stuff. Hey, I'm sorry to bother. Um so I have the right here at the POS. She used ticket switch. She switched barcode. She scanned everything in. But her card might decline. It looks like she's struggling to render payment. If that's the case, the police are saying they have enough to like charge her with shoplifting because she switched the barcodes, but what should we do to proceed? >> We can. >> Yeah. Target here, right? As long as the police want to. Um, I'm I'm willing to prosecute on that. >> Okay. >> Exit with it. >> Okay. Okay. All right. Thank you. >> After watching a live demonstration of her barcode scam, officers head straight to the counter. And the second she sees them, her confusion says it all. >> I I'll take your lead. >> Hey, ma'am. You drop your phone for me. >> Uhhuh. >> Drop your phone for me. >> Yes. >> You're under arrest right now. Okay. Place your hands. Place your hands behind your back. We'll tell you as soon as you're uncuffed. >> What I did? >> We'll tell you as soon as you're cuffed. >> What did I do? >> What's you just Let me get some handcuffs on you and then um we'll bring you to back and we'll explain everything. >> Yeah. Would you like me to grab your cell phone for you? >> Yes. What did I do, ma'am? >> So, let's find it in the office. Okay. >> You going to move it over there? >> Did you want me to disconnect the call? >> Yes. >> What did I do? >> I'll take your purse, Miss >> Okay. I mean, for y'all to come up and just handcuff me like that in front of everyone. And I didn't do anything. >> Explain everything back here. >> How you all going to handcuff me? >> Have a seat over here on the the bench for me. >> Yes. >> Let's go. You can sit there or there you >> Yeah. I don't want to sit down. >> Have a seat. >> Yeah. I don't want to sit down, sir. Because this hurt me for the arms. >> So switching switching the barcodes of switching the barcodes of an item is a crime. >> I didn't switch no barcode. >> I have you on camera and we have >> What did you sir? You didn't see me switching nothing. I didn't switch no barcode anywhere. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Sir, show me, please. >> I have I have it right here. They They've seen it. They >> Sir, no. Uh-uh. You You need to show me. Show me. What did I do? >> You don't need to show. Okay. >> It's hard to tell if Thelma's actually confused [music] or just shocked. Her target heist finally got patched after 35 attempts. But whatever defense lawyer game she's playing, officers aren't buying it. >> The only thing I came here to do at first I came here I was going to um change my pajamas, but I didn't have I couldn't get into the chime. I >> time like a debit your pajamas. >> Yes. I I had I bought me some pajamas yesterday. >> Yeah. But then when I got to the register, um she told me it was fine for me to go ahead and put that in there. I don't have anything else. >> Right. I was just looking for You got ID in here, ma'am? >> No, my my um ID and everything is in the car. >> What's your name? >> And and then for you to go, you you're not supposed to just search my um items. >> Well, you're arrested right now, ma'am. So, >> yes. So, what I'm saying is arrested for what? >> Shoplifting. >> Shoplifting. >> Please sit down. >> Sir, show me proof that I shoplifted anything. >> We just told you, >> sir. I didn't I No, I did not. No, I did not. >> Okay, have a seat for him. >> That Oh, heck. No. Uh-uh. Uh-uh. Mm- The only thing I did, I went and I bought what I had. I I was trying to get my money off the chime the whole time. >> What's your name, man? >> I'm not giving that information unless y'all tell me some stuff. >> We did. >> No, no, y'all did not. The first thing y'all did was handcuff me. >> You're under arrest for shopping. >> How you under arrest? First of all, sir, look here. First of all, I didn't leave out the store with anything and I didn't change no I didn't change no prices on anything. The only thing I did was scan what I had. >> When you were scanning things, they were it was coming up as a white plastic cup. >> Listen, I scanned what I had. You're not going to sit up here and tell me that I shoplifted anything. I scanned the stuff that I had. If Thelma wasn't already being loud enough, she now decided to teach officers how Theelma Law works. >> Okay. But you still switch merchandise today. And that's what we're going to do. >> No. Uh-uh. Mm- >> Okay. And we have 30 minutes. >> And then And then you are not supposed to search my purse. This lady right here is supposed to search. >> If you would like me to search instead of individual. >> Yes, ma'am. Because this is out of order right here. What they're doing. This is very much out of order. >> Do you want me to finish this? Uh-uh. Put your stuff back in my purse because I'm not. Uh-uh. I'm I'm very This is very Uh-uh. Mm-m. Sir, you can put my Those are my items. >> These? >> Yes, those are mine. You can put it right back in my purse. >> Those might be hers. Put it back in there. But so, we're not even going to prosecute on this. We're just GOING TO PROSECUTE. >> PROSECUTE. I didn't take anything. Sir, >> switch the barcode. >> Sir, I SWITCHED THE BARCODE. >> FIRST OF ALL, I DIDN'T SWITCH ANY BARCODES on anything. AND I'M GOING to sue Target. Oh, heck no. Uh-uh. No. No. No. I'm going to I'm going to sue you all. I'm going to sue you all because this is not fair. This is not right. Nope. And then to have the police to come and handcuff me at the register around everybody. Oh, heck no. Uh-uh. Didn't even DIDN'T EVEN BRING ME BACK HERE. Didn't even bring me back here. You're going to come up there and handcuff me in front of everybody. Oh, I'm definitely going to get me a lawyer. However, her tough act only lasted about 12 seconds because the second she realized this [music] arrest could actually follow her home, she switched into full guilt trip mode, begging officers like consequences had a cancel button. >> Penny just banned me out the store. >> Was doing that, too. >> I know that, but Kenny, let me go. >> That's up to them, but I don't think they are. >> Sir, please. Sir, please. cuz this is going to be on me and I'm going to lose my job. I work at the hospital and date surgery. Please, I Please, sir. >> He's got to keep his job, too. >> I I understand that. I won't step back in here. No way around it. Please, sir. I lose my job. If this is on it, please. It took me so long to get this job. Can I just pay for the stuff and you please sir, and let me go. >> I can't. Unfortunately, we've had 33 previous incidents of you doing this >> from here, sir. No, you sir. I've never been. Oh my god. >> You've never been to this store before? >> I always shop in here. I LIVE RIGHT DOWN the street. Sir, you have never caught me in no shoplifting or anything like that in here. Oh my god. I can't believe this. I No. No, you did not. Uh-uh. >> Sir, what? How much is the items? >> Oh my. I didn't Sir, I didn't even leave out the door. >> Yes, ma'am. >> I didn't leave the I didn't leave out the door. >> I understand. >> I didn't leave out the door. I didn't pay for anything or anything. 5926. >> Is that a misdemeanor or felony? >> It's a misdemean. >> Sir, please. Please. I'm going to lose my job. Please, sir. >> It's not It's not my choice. >> Well, whose choice is it? >> It's corporate. >> Well, can you talk to corporate, please? >> I already have it. I call you heard me call them earlier and they What did they say? >> To arrest her. >> I have nobody to get me out on bond. Not only that, not only having this charge on me, I can't go to work tomorrow. anything. >> Well, you didn't rob the store. You were stealing product. What I'm saying? Look here. I can see if if I was going out that door and y'all rang behind me and grabbed me or whatever, but you got me right at the register in front of everyone. You bum rushed me. You did this and that and you could have called me, sir. You did. Yes, you weren't with me, sir. Sir, yes. No, y'all was not equally. No, you was not. Because my my granddaughter was on my granddaughter was on video and the way that you all came up and grabbed me by my arm and gented up like that in front of everybody and handcuffed me. You could have walked me in the back. >> No, ma'am. I don't know you from Adam. So, I've been treating just like I would treat anybody else. >> No, you don't. >> Fairly impartially. >> No. No. No, you did not. No, you did not. And I'm not being argumentative to you. I'm just upset and I'm embarrassed. I can understand that. >> I was upset and I'm embarrassed. That's all. >> Yeah. >> Let me uncip those for you real quick. >> Right here. >> Yeah. I'm going to just get them out your way. You look really nice with the purse. Do you want to help me with the seat belt? Instead of scanning her way into another discount, Thelma ended up checking out with a misdemeanor theft charge and a lifetime ban from every Target location. Next, meet the guy who turned Target into his own personal game of Temple Run. Man, you're not free to leave. >> On March 29th, 2023, officers with the Kent Police Department were staged outside of a Target after receiving a report about multiple suspected shoplifterss and a stolen vehicle. Here's what happened when officers arrived. >> Yeah, he's potentially still inside the store. I get another unit on the backside and make sure he doesn't screw up with that. I'll take one to the front with me and then the next one just go to the back side. But there's one exiting the rear driver's side of the vehicle now. >> He's still in there. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Yeah. Just wait. I got partners in. >> Jeff, that's him walking toward you. >> Hey, get out of the car. Get out the car. Come over here. This is a stolen car. Keep your hands out of your pockets. Have a seat on the sidewalk here. Have a seat on the curb. You're not free to leave. Is anybody else in the car? >> Don't reach for anything in your bag. Okay. Are you pregnant? >> No. >> Okay. >> Hey, you're not free to go. Sit down on the curb. Sit down on the curb. Do not reach in your pockets and do not run. You understand? You're not free to go. You're being investigated for vehicle trespass right now. >> Make sure cuz you're probably going to end up in handcuffs here in a minute. >> Why? >> 26. I have another uh complaint outside of the vehicle with me. Where's your buddy at? I know there's one more inside the store. He's got a car full of this all you walking past me. Is he your boyfriend? Is he just a friend? Is he both? >> You're gonna be detained in handcuffs. Thank you for being cool. >> Officers immediately detained two of the three people involved. But as they moved in to stop the third suspect, he decided his best option was to make a run for it. >> Hey man, you're not free to leave. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. I'm done. I'm done. I'm done. I'm done. >> I'm done. I'm done. I'm done. I'm done. >> You could have done that, man. >> Never done that. I know. >> You know I was going to catch you. >> I know. So, where'd you run? >> If his not so successful Mario Kart escape wasn't enough to turn this Target trip into a complete disaster, what officers learned next was about to make this situation even worse. >> Who's your friend? What's their name? We're talking to him inside. So, I'm just seeing if you're What is it? >> It's Pat. >> Pat. Okay. Does Pat have a job? >> I think he goes to work cuz I don't really see him up. >> So, why is he out here stealing stuff from Target then? I didn't know he was stealing. >> So, what were you doing? Why were you hanging on the car? >> Uh, just talking. >> Typically, right, you know how this works. One or two stay in the car and watch out while the other one goes inside and they call like, "Oh, cops are coming." Like, let's not BS me, right? And insult our intelligence cuz I don't really like being fed lines. You know what I mean? So, what >> I was on watch? >> Yes. Okay. But he told you he was going to go steal. >> He just told me you were on watch, dude. >> Yeah, I know. I was not after you show up. this Mando, you know, it's like a street boy. >> Uhhuh. >> But shoplifting wasn't even the [music] biggest problem here because while officers were dealing with the target run, they were also trying to figure out if the getaway car was stolen. >> What you doing with my girl's car? >> So, we're going to discuss that after I read your rights. Okay. >> Is that my girl? >> Probably. >> Who's Patrick? Who's the guy over there? The dude with the ponytail and stuff. >> Um, I don't know. >> So, when you say a bill of sale for the vehicle, >> Yeah. She gifted it to him. >> She gift just gave him this car. >> Yeah. >> To who? To Patrick. >> Yeah. >> How much do you think that car is worth? >> Uh, not as much as you think it is. >> Okay. >> It's got a lot of issues. A lot. >> Okay. How many cars have you been given in your life? >> Um, a couple. >> A couple? >> Yeah. >> Really? You must have very nice friends. >> So, the thing is like like she owes him money, first of all. Second of all, that that bees a lot of issues that she can't get fixed. She doesn't have the money or the resource to get fixed. >> Hey, uh, Mr. Thomas. Yes, >> sir. Who's the owner of the vehicle? >> Carla. >> Carla. Cuz she's saying Carla gifted the vehicle and she has a bill of sale. >> Okay. So, I was flagged down. The reason I was I was flagged down because they believe you're going to shop. Okay. >> I don't do that. No, I don't. >> Well, they suspected you were going to, right? So, that's why I was flagged down. But what can you tell me? What can you tell me about this car? Who is this car belonging to? >> Carla? My my girlfriend? >> Carla? Is that who was in the vehicle? >> Yeah, it was not Carla I spoke with that was in the car. That's why she's mad. >> Oh, because you're talking to this girl. >> Yeah. Okay. So, this vehicle, this vehicle here is reported as a stolen vehicle. Says when? >> I don't know. I didn't check the details on that. When I walked up and I ran the plate through my dispatch, they advised it was stolen. Okay. So, that's the other part of this investigation. >> She left it with me last night. >> So, I need to call. >> They really thought officers would just believe someone casually gifted away a whole car. But every answer they gave only made the story harder to believe. >> So, if Carla gave it to somebody, who did they give it to? >> Patrick. Who is Patrick? >> He is the guy in the store. I guess they they were dating for a while. >> Was she driver of it? Who was driving it? >> Um >> Patrick. >> Well, you came here in the car, right? You're Miranda. >> I did Miranda. >> So, you came here in the car. >> Who Who drove here? That's simple question, huh? >> I guess Patrick did drive here. >> Patrick did drive here. That's weird. Okay, thank you. >> Can you take a deep breath for me? Ah, she said it. >> Can you here? Take a deep breath. >> All right. So, stand up for me. >> Turn towards me. All right. You are out of handcuffs. There is your bag. There still is a probably good probability you're going to get charged with a crime. >> Okay. >> You understand that, right? >> No. >> Why? >> Because you're in a stolen vehicle. >> That's not stolen. >> Okay. Can you show me the >> Yeah. >> Well, then why would somebody call and report it? >> She's a crazy. Then why are you dealing with her? >> I I don't I I try not to. I' I've been telling Patrick not to a long time. >> Are you dating Patrick? >> We've been off and on for like 3 4 years. >> Well, Patrick went in there and loaded up a shopping cart full of stuff and he was going to steal it. >> Way to give. No, no, no. We aren't going to steal it. We're going to get everything. >> I don't believe that's accurate. >> He actually has a bill of sale at his house. >> That'd be a great thing to bring to court. It's just is it accurate? Is it true or is it not? Because I know people force things and I know there are angry ex-girlfriends. Like I don't know what the truth is. Like I'm not trying to take one side or the other. >> She is angry and whatever. But she did give him the car. >> Well, then she wanted it back. It is what it is. Yes, you are free to go anywhere but Target. >> Patrick thought his target cardio session would help him outrun the consequences. Instead, it only added shoplifting, resisting arrest, and assault on a police officer to the checkout total, while the others walked away with a lifetime ban from Target. Now, meet the woman who turned a shoplifting arrest into a lowbudget movie audition. On March 14th, 2024, police were called to handle a theft call at a Target store involving a woman who had already been banned from other locations. But what first seemed like another routine theft quickly turned into fullblown drama. >> She's probably banned from Victory. I don't know if they did both, but you guys usually do all >> uh it has to be I think specifically. >> Yeah. So, she's probably banned from them and that's where they got all her info and we just think it's the same person. She was in here yesterday doing the same and I'm just sick of her honestly cuz when they go in the fitting room like we can't >> Yeah, you can't really see anything. >> Yeah. So, hopefully her bag is full. >> Did she steal anything yesterday? >> I don't know. >> Yeah, she was looking real hor. But she'll like double select. She'll get like three pairs of men's pants, two of the same shirt, two of the same purse, so that when she leaves the basket, it looks like she left everything behind. >> Is that her? >> Yeah. But she's just coming out like she'll swap like a size out. >> Looks like a pink and a purple something. >> Yeah. Like she keeps coming out and swapping those sizes. So, also that tells me that she plans on actually taking something today. And I know she ain't buying it cuz if she keeps actually trying it on, she wants it. She's not going to buy. She knows. After watching her run through the same routine in real time, officers quickly moved in to [music] stop her before she could walk out again. >> Ma'am, come here. Come here. >> Come here. >> What? >> Yo, come here. >> Hey, >> stop. >> Oh, stop. Put your hands behind your back, >> ma'am. Ma'am, relax. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> Relax. >> Hands behind your back. >> For what? >> My cuffs. You got yours? Yeah. >> Ma'am, stop resisting. You're under arrest for shopping listing and now obstruction as well. >> Ma'am, you made me hit my head. >> I didn't make you hit your head. >> EMS. >> Yeah, they're in route. >> Damn. >> EMS is in route. Well, that fall definitely looked painful. But just when officers thought that they wouldn't have to deal with any more drama, this woman decided to prove them completely wrong. >> Boy, my head is spinning. I ain't going to lie. >> EMS is in route. >> My is thumping. I'm about to pass out. I'm not playing. >> EMS is in route. >> Y'all got to take me to jail. >> Absolutely. >> For what? >> Shoplifting and obstruction. >> Can I please make one phone call? >> M. Give me a second. When when I put you in the car and ready to transport, I'm going to let you make a phone. >> When I thumping >> EMS is in route, >> ma'am. Sit up in the chair, >> man. That was a very controlled fall. Turn around. >> Get on your side. Get on your side. Get on your side. If you're going to play this game, just >> keep ma'am. Ma'am. Ma'am. >> Put your hands in the front. Roll over this way. Ma'am. Ma'am, roll over this way. We're going to move your handcuffs to the front. >> You want to sit up? >> Come sit up. Sit up. >> Hang on. >> Miss Jackson, just let it be. >> While she's busy faking a seizure, EMS arrives to check on her, and suddenly she can't seem to keep track of where she's actually hurt. >> What's going on here? Well, we're going to try to get you set up. Okay. >> Can you stand up for us? >> We'll sit up. We >> got to be able to look at you. scared. >> What are you scared of? >> Straighten this leg up. All right, let's check her head out. Watch out. >> She at all, but like she lost consciousness. >> No, she was still talking to you. >> Yeah. Yeah. She asked if she can call her multiple times. >> What seemed like a >> I don't feel like >> Oh, my neck is hurting down here. >> Where did she hit her head on concrete outside? >> Okay. She really thought her Oscar worthy performance would get her out of trouble. But when that didn't work as intended, she decided to switch tactics, just not in the way that anyone expected. >> Y'all trying to be rude to me cuz I'm black. Cuz I'm black. That's why she tell me that I'm stealing. She see me take something out people. Y'all accuse me. I don't want to be seen. I said they need to take me to jail. Oh, >> y'all ain't going to tell me that my head hurt. My head is spinning. >> I didn't say anything. My head spinning. >> You guys want to take her? >> Yeah. If y'all Yeah. If you guys just give us paperwork saying she refused treatment, I'll take her to jail. >> All the white people work together. All the grins and smiles. Y'all got secret little codes that y'all do. >> Man, what are you talking about? Just >> What are you talking about? >> Know me cuz I'm black. >> It has nothing to do with race. It has to do You had a bag full of merchandise. You had a You had a bag full of merchandise. That's what That's what it has to do. >> Stealing. How do you know I was stealing? >> Cuz you didn't pay for it. That's called stealing. >> Did she feed me? You take some. >> Doesn't matter. You walk You didn't walk in with it and you walked out with it. >> I didn't walk in with a bag. >> You didn't walk in with a bag full of merchandise. Ma'am, >> she didn't know if I had merchandise. >> All the merchandise had tags on it. What are you talking about? >> But she didn't know. Did she see me? >> Just Just stop. This is nothing about race. There's no race. No, it's not. It's you stole and that's it. And now you're going to jail for it. You shouldn't have stole this morning. Okay. >> You made You made You made a wrong choice and now you're going to jail. >> No, you're right about >> that's what it's about. It's not about race. >> I know. >> It's not about race. >> I did make a wrong choice. Cuz if you if you were white and you you were caught stealing, you would have been going to jail, too. Okay. >> She would have never called y'all. >> Just stop. Stop. >> You almost have to admire the confidence. Almost. But what was even stronger was her commitment to not take [music] any responsibility. >> I'm not trying to argue with you. I'm just trying to get you to understand you were wrong. Take take responsibility for what you did wrong. >> Take responsibility for what you did and stop blaming everybody else around you. >> But he's wrong for tripping me. >> No, he's not. >> Yes, you are. He prevented you from escaping. >> Did they tell you all the truth people? >> Yes, ma'am. That That is It was I'm sorry to you. >> That's on You made a poor choice and you got a poor reward. >> Okay. Right. And so to say and you continue making a poor choice and I asked you to stop and you kept pulling away, ma'am. Okay. >> Because what were you >> if you if you wouldn't have ran, it's a misdemeanor amount. Maybe if we would have talked to you, you would have been released on subpoena. We wouldn't even took you to jail. Plain and simple. >> You never told me what you were getting before. >> You know what what we were getting? >> Come on now. >> No, I didn't. >> Okay. So, you didn't know that you could possibly get stopped by the police whenever you walked out of Target with a bunch of their stuff? >> But how who said that? How how would she know that? >> You went inside the cameras >> with an empty tote bag and clothes. You came outside with a full tote bag >> and then you said we see you grabbing double of the same thing. >> The whole thing is on camera. The whole thing is on camera. >> Okay. You know what you did. We're not going to play. >> No, you're right. I'm wrong with stealing. >> Absolutely >> I am. >> And you're also wrong for pulling away. That is why I I tripped you. Okay. You're bigger than I. You were pulling away. You're doing a good job at that. >> I said blame anybody else. Take responsibility for what you did. And that's it. >> So, and I apologize that you hit your head. Okay. >> I am wrong. I shouldn't have stole. I should not have. >> And you should. >> But I'm not being smartass about it. I'm being serious. >> Eventually, she agreed to get medically cleared. But just when it seemed [music] like things couldn't get worse, officers found out that she had two warrants for the exact same thing. So, not only did Target know her face, other stores apparently did, too. And now she had shoplifting and obstructing official business charges added to it. Now, meet the woman who thought she could hide a whole cart of problems with the world's worst poker face. >> So, what were you going to do with all of that stuff? Put it down. >> Let me go. I wasn't shoplifting. I didn't walk out of the store with it. On August 2nd, 2023, officers responded to a target after employees reported a woman trying to leave with a cart full of unpaid items. Here is what [music] the officers walked into. >> Hi there, ma'am. Can you wait right here with us? Okay. So, it was brought to our attention. What's your name? >> Robin. >> Um, do you happen to have an ID on you? >> I don't. >> No. So, it was brought to our attention that you purchased um food, but you had other items that you were leaving with. >> I wasn't leaving. I hadn't locked out the store yet >> cuz you saw us. >> No, on camera. That's what it looks like. >> Well, that's not what happened. It >> doesn't look like the Red Bull is on here either. >> Mhm. I scanned the Red Bull. Do you have your receipt? I know he scanned the Red Bull. That was the first thing I scanned. He had a different another receipt, too, that had printed. I guess it printed out two different times. Can I see your receipt? >> Okay. And you used a food stamp? >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, the thing is is that uh you had already passed all the points of sale before exiting the store. You understand that? That >> went to the bathroom. >> I went to go That's not what it looks like on the camera. >> Well, you can look. I went into the bathroom. this bathroom. >> So, here's the thing, Robin. You don't have an ID on you at all? No. >> Is your information going to come back or are you are you >> keeping that from me? >> No, it's going to come back >> with that date of birth. >> Yes. >> Here's the thing. We're going to do a trespass and uh you can no longer shop here at at Target. Okay? You can't be on their property. That includes the parking lot. >> Okay? >> Okay. If you are on the property in the store, you will be arrested for criminal trespass. Right away, she looks nervous. [music] But instead of clearing things up, every answer she gives somehow makes the car to look more stolen. >> I've not seen other I mean the towel. I haven't seen the towel. >> I know that was I was going to come through over here. You need to customer service. >> You going to go what you customer service? >> Yes. >> Why would you go to customer service? That means >> because I need to return something. >> You need to return something? >> Yes. >> Okay. This doesn't make any sense. Usually when you do returns, you do it in your first year. >> No, not if I have to go pick out what I wanted to do. >> That's years ago it was >> What are you returning it? >> That's how I always did it. >> What's your What are you returning? >> Well, I already had grabbed it with the the filter. >> So, you already returned it? >> Oh, I gave it to them to hold on to. >> So, if I go ask them, they're going to confirm that. >> I don't know. It's a different lady now. >> Pretty convenient. With the woman growing more suspicious after every question, she slowly starts gathering her things. But before she can make her little target escape, officers decide to take a look through her stuff. And what they find leaves them absolutely speechless. >> Is this your backpack in here? >> Don't Don't pick your stuff out of the cart. >> Just wait. I told you you're not going anywhere until we confirm your information. So, you might as well just put it down. Is this your backpack in the cart? Who is it? >> No, I'm just >> Did you pay for it? >> Yeah. >> You pay for it? >> Yeah. >> So, what were you going to do with all of that stuff? >> Put it down. >> Yeah. Why would you put it inside the backpack? >> Because it was too full. >> People usually shop like that.
