Can you step out real quick for me? >> He tried talking to you before. You would have been in the car the whole time if you just complied with him at first. You didn't, which is why you ended up out here. >> On September 17th, 2025 in North Miami Beach, Florida, it starts as a routine traffic stop. An officer pulls over a vehicle for illegal window tint, expecting nothing more than a simple violation. But within moments, the smell of maro coming from the car changes everything, and what should have been a quick stop begins heading in a completely different direction. >> Roll down the back windows. >> Huh? >> Roll down the back windows. How's it going, man? >> Good. >> Officer Orderman of North Miami Beach Police Department. The reason I'm stopping you is because of your tints all around your car. And you have the reflective tints for some reason. Um do you have medication for it? >> Huh? >> Do you have medication for it? >> What do you mean medication? >> Usually people with dark tints like those usually have a doctor's note. >> I don't have a doctor's note. >> Okay. Um do you have your license? Is the car registered to you? Can I see your license? Any Any weapon in the car? >> No. >> Huh? Okay. Can I search? When was the last time you smoked in a vehicle? >> Huh? >> When was the last time you smoked in a vehicle? >> I was smoking in there. >> It smell like weed in there. >> I'm on my way to Miami pick up my mom cuz she's in emergency. I have to take her to the hospital. >> Okay. Um I'll try to be quick. Can you step out real quick for me? Put everything down, please. Put it Put it Put it on your car, man. Put it >> I have to take my mom to the hospital, dog. >> Put it on your car. You You taking longer than I expected. >> Anything else? >> Well, I'm I got a battery down. Put the phone on top of that. Put your hand on top of the car. Well, I'm not telling you put your hand back. Relax. No weapon on you? All right. No needle, no knives. We trying to speed this [ __ ] up. All right? >> I put this uh um I I don't know if there's a knife or there's a kitchen knife, but that's it. >> Okay, that's fine. I don't mind. Okay, that's your car keys? >> Yeah. >> All right. All right, do me a favor. Uh No. Sit right here. Cross your legs. >> Sitting and crossing my legs? >> Yes. Cross your legs forward. >> Huh? >> Like put your legs forward and cross them. Sit down, bro. Sit down and cross your legs. I don't Why you shaking? >> Cuz I have anxiety, bro. I can't >> Okay, I'm trying to I'm trying to be fast. >> Bring your feet out and cross them. That's it. Bring your feet out. Look, look. >> Okay, want me to help you? Like this. I want you to do it like this and then cross them. And just wait, okay? Give me a second. Watch me. >> Now officers begin searching the Honda while another officer stays with Rivas. He says he is having a panic attack and remains mostly silent as officers continue asking questions. For nearly 20 minutes, the stop stays under control. Then without warning, everything changes. >> Can I ask what you guys want? >> What? >> Can I ask what you guys want? >> What? >> Can I ask what you guys want to know? Like you guys think I can talk and I know you guys >> He tried talking to you before. You would have been in the car the whole time if you just complied with him at first. You didn't, which is why you ended up out here. >> He asked if I had any weapons. I said no. >> Okay. >> I told you guys >> There was times before that where you didn't. You didn't even want to sit down. We had to help you sit down. >> I was shaking. You used to how I was shaking, man. >> And I tried talking to you and you ignored me. He tried talking to you, you ignored him. >> attack? >> Yes. That's the point. You talk. You talk it through and that's what I was trying to do with you, but you ignored Whatever. >> I didn't ignore you. >> You need something? What happened? You see how you don't talk, right? And then when you want something from me, you want me to talk to you, right? You see this, right? So now if you ask me something and I ignore you, don't say anything. >> Rivers suddenly shoves one of the officers, jumps back into the Honda and speeds away. Officers immediately give chase as he weaves through traffic at high speed reaching nearly 94 miles per hour. A stop that started over window tint has now become a dangerous pursuit through city streets. >> 356 is a white male fleeing BLUE TOP, GREY BOTTOMS. GET ON THE GROUND. GET ON THE GROUND. >> [screaming] >> GET ON THE GROUND. GET ON THE GROUND. >> [screaming] >> THE CHASE COMES TO AN ABRUPT END NEAR NORTHEAST 18th Road and Miami Gardens Drive when Rivas crashes into three vehicles. Instead of giving up, he bails out and tries to escape on foot. That plan lasts only a few seconds before four officers catch up and take him to the ground. >> [snorts] [snorts] >> Shut up. Get up. >> [snorts] >> Get inside. >> Come on. Come on. >> Get inside. >> With the suspect already in custody, officers begin speaking with the drivers whose vehicles were struck during the chase. One owner is clearly frustrated, but deputies calmly walk through what happened and point out where the suspect's car caused the damage. The suspect's escape attempt is over, but everyone else is left dealing with the consequences. Let me know in the comments, what do you think about this situation? >> You guys need rescue? >> No, they said they were fine. >> You good? >> Yeah. >> Sorry for this. >> If you want rescue, you can check you out. They're right here. You go go over to them and talk cuz obviously we're not the medical services to help you. >> My question is like this is my first car I ever had to put some work in. I don't know how long and I know the cops hit my car. So, where do I go for this information? >> Let me see. Oh, so he hit your car? >> The cops hit my car. >> No, he hit your car. >> Who hit my car? >> Look at where the damage is. You There's no damage here. Your damage is right here. He hit your car. >> cops hit this car and that made >> No, we didn't hit that car. He hit those cars. So, before you want to start accusing, think about what you're going to say first. >> I'm not accusing. >> There's no Yeah, yeah. Well, you're coming on really strong. Relax. There's no damage here. The damage is here. The car hit you here and it hit those cars, which is why you're here right now. I understand it's your first car, you don't know what to do, but ask. Don't accuse. Okay? >> accusing. I understand you're on edge, but the first thing I saw was your car. >> I'm not on edge. >> Okay, then I'm not going to talk to you. >> Okay, then don't talk. Kick rocks. Once Rivas is in custody, officers complete their search of the Honda. Investigators say they recover multiple empty plastic baggies along with glass pipes, items commonly associated with drug use or narcotics activity. What started as a stop for illegal window tint has now produced a crashed vehicle, multiple damaged cars, a battery on an officer, and additional evidence that only adds to the growing list of charges. >> All right. Get out of the car. Walk around the car. Close close to the car and go full round. Go round. There you go. See that door it's standing in front of you? >> The same thing with the second one. >> Same thing with the second one, then you're going to walk into the room and you're going to sit on the bench. >> Walk inside. Sit down. >> Jonathan Rivas, 22, was arrested and charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, fleeing and eluding police, drug paraphernalia possession. So, what do you think this all was fleeing over? A traffic stop ever worth the risk? Let me know in the comments.
