While she searched for her identification, one of the deputies noticed a pot sitting on a lit stove and warned that they didn't need a fire while they were there. Massie moved toward the kitchen to deal with it, but what happens in the next few seconds would have a devastating impact. >> Where you going? >> Huh? >> Where you going? >> Your hot steam water. >> Away from my hot steaming water. >> Yeah. >> Oh, I rebuke you in the name of Jesus. Huh? >> You better not. That's where I'll shoot you face. >> OKAY. >> DROP THE DROP THE FIRE. DROP the bring emails. Now we got head to the female. Head the female. 1078. I was on. I was on. We can at least try and hold the stop the blood. >> This is where the entire situation changes. After Massie said, "I rebuke you in the name of Jesus." Deputy Shawn Grayson responded with an explicit threat and drew his firearm. Within seconds, the confrontation escalated to deadly force, and Grayson fired three shots, fatally striking Massie. What began as a welfare type call had now become a fatal encounter inside her own home. >> Are you guys secure? >> Yeah, we're secure. >> No, it's just her in the house. She's 1096. >> Is there anything you think we can do for No. >> All right. I'm not even going to waste my stuff, then. You want to run down real quick? >> Nope. Not yet. >> All right. But other than that, that suspect >> me. >> Oh, I didn't know what happened. >> Yeah, I'm good. Just crazy. While Massie lay critically wounded, the body cam captured what happened immediately afterward. Grayson remained focused on the boiling water and the stove while his partner questioned what they should do. The footage would later become a central part of the investigation into whether Massie posed a threat and how the deputies responded after the shooting. >> Yeah. >> Where's he at? inside with me. >> Yeah, >> that's my fault, man. I didn't know. I didn't know it was >> No, dude. It was good. All the chances you can >> Grayson was later charged with first-degree murder aggra battery with a firearm and official misconduct.
