HEY! >> NO, NO, NO, NO! Don't shoot me! I'm pregnant! >> On the afternoon of the 18th of December, 2025, Shane Newman and his girlfriend, Katarina Jeffrey, were stopped by Walmart loss prevention on suspicion of shoplifting in the amount of $50.55. No one could have predicted the chaotic scene that was about to unfold. >> This way, guys. >> Back to work? >> Yeah, probably. Unless you guys did something crazy. You didn't do anything crazy, did you? No, you should be good to go. No theft charge. Come here, guys. >> How do we have to go back? >> Cuz that's the way it is. Have a seat. Hey. Anything on you I need to know about? Are your hands in your pockets? >> It's my phone. >> I'm going to pat you down real quick, all right? >> That's cool. >> Nothing on you that's going to poke me, stab me? >> No. >> Okay, go ahead and have a seat. Nothing on you that I need to know about? >> I do have this uh bag. >> No. >> This [ __ ] I stole. Bag and [ __ ] >> What's in there? >> They only take >> the whole car. >> Yeah. >> Go ahead and have a seat for me. Anything else in there I should know about, my man? >> The officer begins to pat Newman down, but for unknown reasons, only conducts a partial search of the suspect, an oversight he would soon regret. >> What's your name? >> Xavier. >> What's your name? >> Xavier. >> Xavier what? How's it going, man? If you don't cooperate, I'm going to put you in handcuffs. >> April Wells I'll I'll give you I'll give you my real social. >> Figured that was not right. >> Thank you for this for that. >> I would have gone and got you. >> Unless something crazy happened. >> I swore or not to steal, bro. >> You didn't steal them yourself. We were looking up on her. >> What up? >> We watched you walk over and put an item in the bag off the shelf. >> Please indeed disperse, please. >> All right, we'll go back to >> 5550 >> [music] >> Hey! HEY! >> NO, NO, NO, NO, NO! SAME POLICE STOP! >> SAME POLICE STOP! SAME POLICE STOP! >> HERE IN SLOW MOTION, WE SEE Newman reach into his shoulder bag, pull a gun, and attempt to fire a point-blank shot at the officer. After the first shot fails, he then racks the slide and raises the weapon a second time as Conrad Pierro, a Walmart employee, intervenes and wrestles the gun from Newman. You can hear a second audible click as another round fails to detonate. A struggle ensues, and the officer is able to subdue Newman. >> Same police stop! >> Need help! Need help! Let me see your Now. Don't touch it. >> All right. You do not touch anything. >> I'm not. >> I'm good. This room. >> Don't say that. >> Excuse me, officer. Is knowing he shot you that way? Is that the one that robbed you? >> You got so much worse than so >> So, can you just shoot me? Excuse me. Did I say that? >> Excuse me. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. >> Excuse me. Excuse me. Excuse me, please. >> Good? >> Yeah. >> Who is she with? She with him? >> Yeah. >> That's actually it. >> Well, I didn't think so. She's the same kid. She was with him. Excuse me, officer. I'm all right, officer. >> You don't have anything on you, right? >> Amazingly, officers again ask if Jeffrey has anything on her rather than conduct a full physical search. >> I'll go grab my camera and take pictures of her. >> I don't know if this is something we want BCI for, but I don't mean there's no evidence really, but I mean, it's attempt to murder. >> It is attempt to murder. >> He would have got me. >> Oh, he would have got me. For sure. For a simple for a simple >> Well, he had a he had a he had a warrant that he lied to her and lied about. >> a laser on it? When you when he pulled it out? >> Oh, yeah. >> Did it >> Yeah. >> shine on it? >> Mhm. Yeah, cuz that was the first thing I saw. >> There's manslaughter >> He Yeah, he racked it. He like pulled the trigger and went to rack it. >> Conrad >> Conrad He like came over cuz I I got up and I was like this. Conrad's on like get off of him. But then the kid gave up. No, he ended up dropping it cuz he went to racket. As he racked it, Conrad tackled him and it fell down. Sarge? I don't know if you want the DVI here for this. Get these two for theft. Have them in here. They're cooperative. He's being kind of weird but he hands me that. Full pills. Okay. So I do pat him down but I I didn't get his pouch he had. So as I'm sitting there Eliza bells name finally tells me his name. Inquiry just told me he's got entered in one. I didn't even he's armed and dangerous. As soon as he does he pulls the gun out, puts it to my head, pulls the trigger, gun don't go off. Conrad comes over here to tackle him. I draw. Um he ends up giving up. I couldn't take a shot cuz Conrad was on him. Gun's over there. >> Get running all her stuff. Let's get her format going and get her out the county. >> Her charge is going to be theft. >> That's all I I was going to release him. That was the thing like it was just going to be a summons. >> Did she do anything during all this? >> I mean not that's not the the >> Just the theft, right? >> She has two we can get get her and cut her. Like give her her >> Do you want the bullets in the pocket? >> Make sure she's not on her disability. If she is here with that too. >> want the DVI interview her though? >> Um you know what? Yeah. Did you undo the mag or did that just come out of the pocket? >> when it fell. >> Okay. So he probably didn't have it seated hence the jam. >> You know what? I arrested him. He had 237 bromazaline pills. I got him with trafficking. He went to prison. >> As it turns out, this was not Newman's first run-in with the law. A year and a half earlier, Newman was convicted on a drug possession charge and sentenced to four to six years but served only 80 days. Then, while awaiting sentencing on that drug charge, he was convicted on a domestic violence charge and sentenced to 180 days and was released after serving just 9 days. Then, while out on probation for those, he was convicted of giving false information to a police officer and served 3 days in jail before being released back onto the streets. >> Yeah, those are the Those ones though, those are actually maybe uh Xanax? >> No, fentanyl. Yeah, that's exactly what he was selling when I pulled him over with that girl. Or it was a different girl. The girl was real skinny. He had 237 of them. >> You were supposed to work today? Was it your day off? >> I took the day off. I'm supposed to work uh Christmas factor there. >> I hope you're all right. >> Oh, it would have been my life. >> All right. >> I mean, pointed right at my face. Look at that. >> He'll go to prison for 30 plus years. Hopefully they take him away. >> That's right. He turned it on. >> Do it again, look. >> Thank god for Conrad. >> I said I'm putting him in for an award. >> Citizen of the year. >> I was going to shoot him right here. >> Yeah. >> But Conrad was there. Why doesn't he turn this off? >> When it was all over, Newman was charged with attempted murder, felonious assault on a police officer, robbery, having weapons under disability, carrying concealed weapons, aggravated drug possession, and obstructing official business. He was held on a $1 million bond at Stark County Jail. Jeffrey was initially charged with complicity to commit robbery, but despite the fact that she had 9-mm ammunition in her pocket at the time of the incident, the grand jury ultimately indicted her only on misdemeanor theft, for which she was sentenced to 180 days in jail, of which she served 84 days before being released. At his arraignment, Newman pled not guilty by reason of insanity. The judge in the case ordered a psychodiagnostic evaluation to determine his mental state and competency to stand trial. Conrad Pierre, the Walmart employee and former Marine who wrestled the gun from Newman, was hailed as a hero and received a civilian commendation, a mayoral proclamation, and a congressional commendation for his actions that day. This case follows the same pattern as so many we have seen. Criminals with multiple convictions serving minimal time, released on minimal bond, going on to commit more violent crime. The pattern is undeniable and ultimately is making our streets less safe. Thank you for watching this episode of Justice in America. Stay safe.
