Do you have anything else on you? >> No, sir. >> Do you have any other weapons on this campus? Do you have any other explosives on this campus? >> I ain't believing this is happening here. >> How did you get up here with a shotgun? You just carried it up here? >> Yes, sir. >> Are you kidding me? >> I wasn't raised by the right people. >> Are you kidding me? >> There's a lot of violence in today's day and time of violence, so other people are going to do what I do. Just because every one of my family's either bipolar or schizophrenic. >> So, you've been planning this since 2013? Because I mean, we know about >> Yeah, I know. >> April 20th, 2018, Ocala, Florida. It's the 19-year anniversary of the Columbine massacre, and a 19-year-old Columbine-obsessed former student [music] is planning a copycat attack at Forest High School in Ocala, Florida. Here, he can be seen bursting through the doors of Forest High School holding a guitar case. Inside of that case is a 16-gauge sawed-off shotgun and multiple shells. After climbing the stairs, he turns right and enters the men's bathroom. That man is Sky Bouchey, [music] and he is already known to the FBI. When he was 15, he posted numerous inflamed derogatory comments supporting the Columbine massacre on a YouTube video, including, "I am thinking about doing my school the same way. [music] I have enough guns and ammo. I have been planning for months, but not sure when to do it. Everybody [music] will know my name." That comment flagged the FBI, and an agent contacted [music] the Ocala Police Department, and investigators there interviewed Bouchey. He told them he'd made the comments because he was looking for attention. A detective went to Bouchey's home and conducted a firearms search and found several replicas, but no [music] actual firearms. Investigators concluded there was no credible specific threat to his school, so no criminal charges were filed. He was given a referral for a suicidal and violence risk assessment [music] and was released to his mother. Now, 5 years later, Bouchey is sitting in the men's restroom of his former high school loading a sawed-off shotgun, about to do the unthinkable. He walks out into the hallway and fires one shot through the door of classroom [music] 212. The slug traveled through the door, striking Evan Eckenroth in the ankle. And then miraculously, Bouchey has a change of heart. He ceases fire, drops his [music] weapon, and walks down the hallway into a classroom, empties his pockets onto a desk, and surrenders to a teacher. However, as the body cam footage begins, school resource [music] officer Deputy Jimmy Long doesn't know any of that. All he knows is there is an active shooter in his school. He enters classroom 212 where the student was shot. >> What the hell is that? Who was that? 996 for 996 for nothing. It was a signal 35. If you could send me signal 55 C hallway. Hey. Lock the school down. Where's the Who was it? What happened? What happened? 996 for nothing. I have a shotgun in D hallway laying on the ground. Did we lock the school down? Lock the school down now. Huh? Where? Down on the ground. What the hell? Put your hands behind your back. Everyone out. Okay, stop right there. Stop right there. Who is he? >> We don't know. >> He's the shooter. >> He shot through the door, but he doesn't know which one. >> 996, Berna. They're saying he's the shooter. >> He's by himself. >> Did anyone see him? >> No. No, he was outside. He came down. >> Did you go to this school? >> I used to, sir. >> What the >> My name is Sky, sir. >> All right, go. Out. Everyone out. Hey, keep them right there. 996, Berna. I got one in custody. He's saying he's the shooter. >> I'm sorry, sir. I wasn't raised by the right people. >> Are you kidding me? >> There's a lot of violence here. >> I don't know any medical >> [laughter] >> Are you serious? >> I don't know why I did >> Don't say another word. Don't say another word. Do you have anything else on >> No, sir. >> You have any other weapons on this campus? Do you have any other explosives on this campus? >> Sir, I put all my stuff on the table behind you, sir. >> Photos from the scene show a knife and over a dozen shells on the desk, as well as the sawed-off shotgun Bouchey had used. >> What is your name? >> Sky Bouchey. >> Sky Bouchey, and you used to go to school here? >> S K Y Bouchey. I used to go here uh last year, yes, sir. Or the year before. >> I ain't believing this is happening here. How did you get up here with a shotgun? I'm the only one. >> You're the only one? >> Yes, sir. >> He says there's no no more bombs, no more anything. I'd like to check his vehicle. And is that exterior outside? Are you sure there's no one else with you? >> Yes. Yes, sir, I'm not lying. >> There was a lot of people on the internet saying that they >> They were saying they were We're to attack the school, so I would just just watch out for other people like lone wolves and elves. >> name? What is the but? >> be bad if you don't freaking tell us everything. >> No, I'm saying that there's today is the day of Columbine, so other people are going to do what I do. >> Do you know of other people that are doing this? >> I I'm a lone wolf. There's no one else that I work with. I'm telling you the truth, all right? There's no reason for me to be here right now cuz I gave up after one shot. And I'm telling you everything I know. >> The the kid you shot, was he a random kid or something? >> through the door. I didn't know the gun would even work. I just wanted to scare people. I didn't even know this. >> You know that doesn't make any sense, right? >> Well, >> What what what sense does it make to you? >> Uh it's hard to understand if you haven't gone through the mental illness or you going up in violence. >> So you got you Okay. >> Not saying that this is an excuse. >> have a mental disorder? >> Uh every one of my family is either bipolar or schizophrenic. >> Okay, are you bipolar or schizophrenic? >> Uh I've been to a mental hospital once and they told me I was fine. They just medicated me. Anxiety meds, that How it. They said I was good. >> Do you feel good? >> No, sir. All right. >> So, you feel like you're messed up aside from today's events? >> Uh Well, sometimes, you know, I I just don't feel anything. It's It's hard to describe cuz no one will use me. >> Okay. >> People kind of think it's kind of funny. I went to the bathroom >> So, you've been planning this since 2013? >> The fantasy I've been on >> Because I mean, we know about it. >> Yeah, I know. I know you do. >> So, you've been This is planned. >> Uh the fantasy has come and gone, but when I get depressed, things start coming back. >> Boucher was extremely candid throughout the entire incident. When asked why he stopped shooting, he said, "As soon as I stepped out of the bathroom, the excitement just went to a dead halt, and I just felt this disgusting feeling come over me." Despite the fact that he gave himself up, he was ultimately convicted on eight counts terrorism, aggravated assault with a firearm, culpable negligence, carrying a concealed firearm, possession of a firearm on school property, possession of a short-barreled shotgun, interference with a school educational function, and armed trespassing on school property. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison and is parole eligible only after 25 years, followed by 30 years of probation. Deputy James Jimmy Long, the school resource officer who made the arrest, was named Florida School Resource Officer of the Year of 2018 for his actions during the incident. Kelly McManis Panasook, the teacher who took Boucher into her classroom while she waited for police, received the Woman of Courage Award. The only victim in the incident, Evan Echenroth, sued the Marion County School District for $30,000, claiming inadequate security, permanent scarring, and mental anguish. In 2025, the school district settled with Echenroth for an undisclosed amount. What do you think? Was the sentence fair? Is there anything the authorities could have done to prevent this? Let us know in the comments and thank you for watching this episode of Justice in America. Stay safe.
