On January 20th, 2025, officers responded to a domestic violence shelter after staff reported that a resident had allegedly threatened a roommate with a large kitchen knife during an argument over food. What started as a disagreement over ground beef quickly escalated into screaming, racial insults, and multiple criminal charges. >> 36 let us in. >> Safe place. They're not allowed to say it over there. It's where domestics go. I'm sorry about that. I got the name wrong. Her name is Rashan. >> Okay. Is everybody all right now? >> Yes. >> Where's she at? >> We have to. >> Okay. Where What's going on? >> Where is she at? >> So, we have >> Where is she? >> Is she still got the weapon or no? >> No. Okay. Hello. >> Hi. What's up? >> What's going on? >> Look at this story from our room. >> What happened? >> Um, so >> sorry. I just wanted to make sure she didn't still have a weapon or whatever. >> Yeah. No, it's fine. So, it all happened in like the kitchen. So, from what it looked like they were having like a normal conversation. >> Cool. Um, so we had another client over here with her, but they were having just like a normal conversation and then all of a sudden, I don't know, it just got really like escalated. She started her face. I ran over. >> She started screaming at the other woman >> and then I heard you screaming and she has a knife. Other clients that were in the kitchen were coming out. They were saying that she also had a knife and so that's why I'm not sure if the panic button worked, but I just came into the office and I called 911. I'm sorry. I'm a little flustered right now. >> So she pulled a knife on Johnny. Yes. >> When she did that, how did she do it? Can you just kind of demonstrate? So, they're arguing. And what did you see her do? >> Um, so I just saw her getting really close to her face. She had the knife on her side. That's all that I saw. >> She had a knife on her side. >> Yep. She >> like in her hand. >> Mhm. >> Yeah. I can have you talk to Jenny if you want to get her side of the story. >> Many more details about what allegedly happened inside the kitchen will come out later, but the commotion coming from the other room quickly catches the officer's attention. >> Are you guys okay? Just watching. Oh, just a little upset. >> Yes, you are. >> Okay. >> Basically, what I'm saying, I'm very sweet girl. I've been a nurse for a long time and stuff. I've been take care of their community, saving their kids, giving them money on streets, all type of stuff. I don't know how to do nothing to them. You know how people always trying to double clean the black girl. Don't ask what's >> I don't know where she's at right now. That's why I figured OUT ME AND COME AT ME WITH A KNIFE. >> OKAY. I'm trying to figure out the story. I'm getting two separate sides. That's why I wanted to talk to you and get your information. >> Everybody always ganging up ON A BLACK GIRL. >> I'M NOT asking I'm not ganging up. I'm asking for your name. That's all I'm asking you for. >> She trying TO REVOKE ME. SHE TALKING SAID YOU DON'T KNOW ME. SHE WANTED TO ME. THAT'S WHAT I'M TRYING TO TELL Y'ALL. SHE LITERALLY AT THAT SHE SAID YOU DON'T KNOW ME. >> WHAT HAPPENED with her? >> SHE WAS IN MY BUSINESS. THEY ALWAYS GO. >> YOU DON'T HAVE TO SHOUT. I'M JUST TRYING TO FIGURE OUT what's going on. I'm not shouting. I get you upset, but I can't understand what's going on if you're shouting AT ME. >> SHE BASICALLY THEY JUST STARTED SOME STUFF WITH ME. I JUST CAME DOWN HERE TO SEE WHAT WAS IN THE FRIDGE. THEY JUST STORING SOME STUFF WITH ME. >> OH, HOW DID OKAY, SO you came down here to eat just relax. Can you do me a favor and just take a breath? >> I just came down here TO EAT SOMETHING. THEY BEEN LIKE REALLY LIKE EVERYBODY BEEN WITNESSING THEM MEXICANS LITERALLY BE COMING AT US. PEOPLE KNOW THAT BLACKS AND MEXICANS DO NOT GET ALONG. THAT'S POINT HISPANIC. >> THEY KILLED TRAYVON. Y'ALL DON'T KILL ALL THESE PEOPLE. AND Y'ALL KNOW THAT SHE LITERALLY LOOKING AT ME AS SHE WANT TO KILL ME. AND I'M LOOKING AT HER LIKE, "GIRL, Y'ALL KNOW, FIRST OF ALL, I WENT TO SCHOOL WITH PSYCHOLOGY. I did the cop stuff. I studied criminal justice, so I know all this stuff." >> The woman claims she has studied criminal justice, and you'll learn that she has many different occupations. As the officer radios for additional units that are already on the way, she immediately makes one demand very clear. >> DON'T BRING NO MEXICAN, PLEASE. WHY? FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, KICK THEM. THEY'RE ALREADY WHITE AND I'M BLACK. LEAVE THEM MEXICANS AWAY FROM ME. THEY ALREADY KILLED A LOT. WHY DON'T Y'ALL NEVER UNDERSTAND? >> OKAY, so you're down here looking in the fridge to try to get something to eat. >> I literally just came out here. I DON'T WANT TO. YOU BEST >> I'M WAIT for Courtney. Maybe >> she's over there. >> There's a girl. Can you try to get a name for me? >> Hello. >> Who is she arguing with? >> Your can you tell me what's going on? I'm not getting much information from her. >> Okay. First, first first, I walked in on her talking to the pregnant lady, getting lippy with her because um where she >> some ground beef some ground beef. >> So, you walk in, she's this this woman's having an argument. She's getting into a face with a pregnant lady here. >> No, not in the face. The pregnant lady, she left. The the the black woman left and then me and her got to talking cuz I saw that >> you and her the lady. >> Oh, okay. For clarity, this is Jenny, the woman police say was threatened with the knife. According to the report, the argument initially began between the suspect and another resident over food in the kitchen before Jenny stepped in. And that's when the confrontation escalated further. We >> started talking cuz I could see in her face that she was like in distress, like something had gone on. So, she was explaining to me that she was arguing about some ground beef that the house bought that she kept saying she bought. We were talking and then the black lady comes back, wants to apologize. So, I thought everything was simple and like and I said something and she's like, "I'm not talking to you." >> Okay. >> And then I was like, "You're not going to disrespect me like that." Cuz she like shut me up, >> okay? >> And I'm like, and she did it twice, >> okay? >> And I told her, "Please don't disrespect me like that." >> Okay? >> And then she started talking about racism, that Mexican people were like always ruining [ __ ] >> okay? >> And that she drew a knife at me. And I was like, "If you're going to do it, do it. So, she starts saying, "You Mexicans are racist." Excuse me. I'm just reporting people. Okay. And then you said she pulls out a knife. >> She grabbed the knife that I was cutting with. She went over the counter. She grabbed the knife and she went like this. >> Like, stand up and do it to me. >> But I >> So, if you grab the knife, what did you What did she do? Let's say you had the knife. >> She grabbed the knife and she went like this. >> Okay. >> And I'm like, "If you're going to do it, do it." I step back and I'm like, "But >> Okay. >> Did you think she was going to stab you?" >> Yeah. >> You want her arrested? Yes. Okay. >> Another officer arrives and we get a clearer look at the woman police say was responsible for the knife incident. As officers attempt to calm her down and understand what happened, she continues yelling, making bizarre claims, demanding a lawyer, and insisting that she's actually the victim in this situation. >> She doesn't want to talk to me CUZ I'M MEXICAN. >> I DON'T WANT TO TALK TO MEXICANS HERE. I DON'T WANT TO TALK TO Y'ALL. >> WILL YOU TALK TO ME? >> Are you a Mexican? >> No. I'm Officer Der Jill. You can call me Officer Angie. I'm Italian. Is that okay? >> Yeah. What's my name? My name um Yummy. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> All right. So, what's going on today? >> So, basically, I'm in the kitchen. I came downstairs. I'm supposed to be here trying to get my stuff together. I ain't got nowhere to go, literally. So, I'm not trying to mess up this opportunity. I know God brought me here. So, I'm not trying to mess up this opportunity. I just said I don't want y'all talking to me. SHE TRIED TO PROVOKE ME AND THEN SHE GONNA COME TO ME. SHE GOT A KNIFE. >> AND so the person you were arguing with, are they another RESIDENT HERE? >> SHE I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WHERE SHE CAME FROM. IT'S LIKE SHE JUST CAME OUT THE BLUE. I'M CONFUSED. I mean I She won't give me a statement. She just keeps screaming in my face. >> Okay. >> You want to get out of here? >> Yeah. >> I'm going to need to talk to the pregnant woman that that saw this cuz everybody lives here together. >> So this is going to be domestic related cuz you all live in the same dwelling. Does that make you know that, right? Okay. >> Pregnancy. >> Oh, hi. So, you're in the kitchen and what happened with her? What did she do to you? >> So, I'm making something, but she said she wanted to make nachos. I said, "That's fine. You, you know, there's a pound of meat." She wanted two lbs of meat and she pulled a knife on like um the other girl was cutting lettuce. >> Mhm. >> And she took the knife from her and was like she was going to use it on her. >> Okay. >> She tried >> When you say use it, can you describe to me? She took it from her and >> Yeah. Yeah. >> What did she do then? >> I don't know what she did after that. She started she was screaming and saying how she was, you know, I don't I I didn't understand what she was saying. >> Okay. Just basically like I was talking to Linda over there and she says she's like preparing food over there. >> She's she's talking to her. She's upset because she wanted more than just a pound of meat or something like that. And then you said all the food's for all of us, right? It's for the house. >> And then set her up and said, "Was I talking to you?" And then grabbed a knife out of your hand as you're cutting lettuce, I believe. and then pointed at you. >> She tried throwing the the lettuce >> in >> and then she saw the knife and grabbed it. >> Here's what I thought. Grumpy, whatever. >> Yeah. >> And she wanted all of it to make nachos. >> Okay. >> Meanwhile, officers continue attempting to calm Roshane down as she remains upset and yelling from the living room. This is where her behavior begins to noticeably escalate, becoming more aggressive and combative as additional officers move in to gain control of the situation. >> This is where we're at right now. >> Y'all going to get >> You are This is WHERE WE'RE AT. >> COME ON. >> YOU ARE UNDER ARREST. Please don't forget. >> With the woman finally in custody, officers begin to secure the scene and wrap up their initial investigation. As part of that process, they take a closer look at the knife that was reported to have been used during the incident. >> I just want to make sure you have everything you need. >> I'm sorry. I was going to get ready to walk out there, but I saw you guys walk. >> Okay. No worries. >> I mean, she she had nothing to do with me. >> Nothing. That's why I said maybe she'd respond better with you. didn't sound like it went too well. So, I'm sure this is >> pretty consistent 42 all day. >> I can tell you the kitchen. >> Yeah, >> I I have put it up here like when no one was looking, but >> I think when I came in it was over here. >> Okay. >> So, she's chopping. Okay, this makes sense. So, she's chopping. >> She was here cutting stuff up and then they get into it over the meat and then she takes it points it puts her >> Yeah. How did she eventually go with you guys? She just >> She was fine with me until I had to tell her she was under arrest. Then she got really mad again. I I got the story I got is she didn't want to talk to anyone who was Hispanic. She doesn't like them. They jumped her in a subway. They jumped her somewhere else. She's like, "I wasn't doing anything. I was just in the kitchen." And she's like, "I was just there." And all of a sudden, this person comes out of nowhere and threatens me with a knife from nowhere. Yeah. She's saying she got threatened. This girl's got like 2 lbs of meat that she's separating. She wanted the 2 lbs of meat to McDonald's. She goes, "Well, it's the food's for every everybody here." >> And then she started yelling at her, took the knife from her as she's cutt like that. And then push her up against the thing, so she wants her, you know, >> just yelling on me like, "And she said she was in jail before here. She like when she first got here, she was like, I just got out of jail like bragging about it, I guess." But >> it's bragging right now. >> So, I thought I'd bring it up. >> Okay. Yeah. >> Thanks. >> Let's get you inside the house. I'm telling you, SHE DID THAT ON PURPOSE. >> I AIN'T EVEN THINK I'M GOING TO ME. SHE DON'T KNOW ME. >> LISTEN DOWN THERE. Don't slip on. Okay, sit in here. I don't want you slipping on back. >> Please, I'm pregnant. Please. >> I'm a good person. I took care of y'all. I [ __ ] a nurse. >> Close the door real quick. Okay, >> please. You guys don't kill me. >> We're not gay. Nobody's going to do that. >> I can't. The following day, the officer returns to the shelter to follow up with staff and provide an update on the case. During that visit, he also works with staff to gather the woman's belongings so they can be returned to her after release, making an effort to ensure she is not simply released from custody with nowhere to go and none of her property. >> Hey, how you doing? Is Jula here? Oh, >> she is, but she's on a call right now. Okay. Can I >> call? Oh, thank you. Hello. How are you? Hi. >> Do you have a moment I can speak to you? Okay. So, I just wanted to keep you informed. So, uh Miss Anderson's going to um it's called first appearance. So, charges were approved. Um but I don't think she's going to be held for conditions uh based on her record and stuff. So, okay. >> I'm just trying to figure out where I can get her to stay. >> You know, it's freezing outside. I'm not condoning anything that happened here, obviously, but I still have to find something for her. We're not sure where she could go. Um, a few options that I was told is like a warming center, which our library is open right now. >> My thing is I don't know how much items she has or if we even need to get to that point right now to get that stuff until we find placement for her. >> Yeah. So, we we did clean her room and she does have like five bags of stuff. Okay. >> Yeah. So, we did set that to the side cuz we didn't know how long it was going to take for her to like come and like pick up her belongings. We do have that. >> Well, could I see what that is? Could I take a look? Just I just want to see how much stuff I'm looking at. I just like to plan ahead, but I'm just thinking ahead. like if she gets released, let's say um within an hour or two and she just happens to walk down to our front desk, which a lot of people do, and she'll be like, "I need a ride to here." Okay. And I'm fine with that. But then where do I go? I can't just belong. Have a nice day. I want to I just want to think ahead a little bit, >> if that makes sense. >> The woman was ultimately taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon as well as domestic battery. The victim also signed formal complaints supporting the charges as documented in the report. What are your thoughts on this case? Please leave a like, subscribe, and comment your thoughts below. Thanks for watching. >> Well, you can have that food I made. >> I guess the food's okay to eat now, right? It's safe to finish chopping up your >> lettuce.
