you need a little bit of a better PC than just something that can play games for the streams to be at a nice enough Fidelity that it's watchable and you might be encountering the same type of thing um stupidity sometimes it leads to Greater like a greater livelihood for everybody everyone sometimes it doesn't sometimes it abjectly doesn't being from the United States at our foreign policy absolutely does not always work out in the favor of people everywhere well Russia is just a place and Russia is not near as powerful as they were before they're still super power don't get me wrong but um every conflict has those po those people those entities that are very powerful and sometimes they don't leave conflicts that are wide scale in a position of power anymore [Music] laughs [Music] everyone says that about why not everyone but that type of sentiment is very common when talking about talking to anybody from Any Nation foreign but I've come across to talking to people from a people get along and it's a question that I actually spent a significant amount of time today trying to answer to a student who asked more or less the same question and I don't know what to say I it's hard to explain there's a lot of facets to why people don't get along and some of them are very dumb admittedly but some of them I think come from uh just the fact that we are we are animals with unlimited power there's this line in a book I like called sapiens that says something like it's the title of a chapter and the title of the chapter is something like the animal who became God and when you provide something that has so many animalistic characteristics characteristics and you provide them with the power of the atom and the power of every other things they're going to use that power and try to gather more of it so what you're witnessing by people not getting along I think is people grabbing for power that necessarily isn't theirs by right but they feel like they want it oh hey how you doing I didn't say I was responding to the previous comment I didn't see that you had popped in welcome in force you need to let it let me know if we're ever going to do that dead by daylight I would love to do a buddy stream that would be a lot of fun [Music] I think that would ever happen dark is if some huge event galvanized people to recognize everyone as people and what I mean by that is people have this thing that they do where they always distinguish between us and them in terms of whether they like somebody or not and this happens on the national scale and the only way that that type of thing would happen is if everyone was in the US category and the them category just did not exist I'm not sure what could create that event but it would have to be huge and world changing cells even Nations inside of the United States which is a significant size there are like so many varying levels of us and them within our socio-political sphere so and I know you're from the UK I don't know how much you know about United States history and I'm not asking that you do the United States history has been a storied progress system of creating arbitrary uh ideas of us and them and then enacting upon them and system systemically uh organizing or adding that perception of us and them into our law structure so I don't know if I explained that very well but it's yeah really we are perfectly poor sorry I haven't read in a second there but that's the the fallacy of a that's the fallacy of a um Utopia there's a lot of literature that discusses the ideas of Utopias you know Brave New World uh Fahrenheit 451 uh do Android well do Android stream of Electric Sheep is not a Utopia but they're always the literature explore the idea of a Utopia and I think they all come up with the same answer where Utopias are really unlikely at best if they're even possible which is debatable well those are all national natural disasters that's a little bit beyond the socio-political sphere um and the United States has to deal with all of those more or less but to be quite Frank the United States so big that when those type of things happen They Don't Really impact that many people but what's interesting about that is people will swarm out from all over the place to help out when uh tsunami or tore a massive tornado hits and it's it's crazy to see that type of galvanization but that is what I'm talking about when I say that if you want to create a system where people are treated equal and everyone's supports each other you have to have something huge that eliminates the distinctions between us and them and those types of things are not Global things that happen if that makes sense hey well I will uh be on for the next hour at least so you go ahead and get your stuff done and well I would agree too um it's one of those things where once you provide a convenience to somebody you can't deny them that without them wanting to push back against the denial of it and I think that's a very natural thing for people to do foreign once again dark I think that that's the that is the utopian view that's the Perfection of humanity at its best view but that's something I think everybody wishes would happen but it wouldn't happen until everyone does it and when it comes to the act of doing it that's when it falls apart [Music] oh I have a hot pepper for George [Music] going to miss out on the potential fun of it as I got older my life got better and better it started out terrible I had an awful childhood um and I had to work hard to create the life that I have for myself and it was it was hard work and it was sometimes pretty scary but you know I think that good things come from effort and from hard work and from allowing yourself the opportunity to enjoy the time that you have and if you enjoy your life now then don't be scared of the future instead make sure the future is going to be a life that you will also enjoy foreign I think Greenhouse is 35 000. I wonder it'll be a little bit annoying but it'll be cheaper quicker to get the the sprinklers [Music] we could get eight of them today I wonder can I transmute I don't think I can man I'm really sorry to hear that um [Music] you know I have known that it's been a global economic crisis this whole time but it's stories like that that make me realize that even across the pond people are having economic issues and I really do hope that your mom is able to get everything together and that that situation doesn't happen um and I'm not sure like what all the laws and how everything works in England is um but should the worst happen um I hope that you have the strength to push through it and I know that doesn't really help you in the moment but if you can look to the Future and know what you want to create for yourself um it'll make it a little bit easier it won't be easy don't get me wrong but everything gets a little bit easier if you have the proper perspective I think and it feels it's going to feel like that doesn't help at all and I guess maybe it doesn't but when life is is handing you suffering I don't know what else you do except try to turn that suffering into something that doesn't hurt in the long run well once again I think we've talked about this a little bit before I don't I have never ever considered autism as being something that means a student can't succeed in school autism for me has always been a boon for my uh academics it's been a huge boot but that's because I hyper focused on it I hyper fixated on it and I don't know who this person is that you're talking about but does she have something that she hyper fixates on can I think what I need to do right now I could check the prices I guess I'll CH oh it's 5 50. I can't check the prices give me the other Mayo please if that's what she hyper fixes on then what I would suggest is find literature about what she likes oh cakes I didn't realize you get cakes this early won't be able to make them but [Music] let me give you an example so I've got a student who went through a very rough transition into adolescence and he's finally coming out of it now I'm very excited to see where he's able to take himself but he spent most of his high school uh even though he's intelligent not doing anything for progressing in classes and constantly getting in trouble but really and I knew this from the beginning it was all a trauma response it was all a trauma response for a lot of issues that not issues I won't even call them that a lot of things that we're just not going to get into because it would take a very long time to explain and this year is when I've noticed that that person is changing it's my second year with him in a row and um I'll get back to that [Music] and no I think that is important dark I'm going to circle back to this in a second just give me one second to explain where my thought process is going with this so what I did this year after he showed that he he wants to turn things around and that um he really does want to do something more with his life life than what has been dictated possible to him by other people is uh I came up with a new curriculum so like I said before I wanted to go into a history Masters right and so I had on my own foreign [Music] went through the process of finding a lot of literature by black authors or about the history of Africa or things like that and these are all things that this kid would be interested and and is interested in knowing about but because of you know the way school systems worked in the United States I can't get classroom sets of those things so what I did is I purchased a copy for myself and a copy for him I let him have the copy it is a very expensive shift for me because these books are not necessarily cheap but we are reading it together and it's like teaching two classes at the same time I've got my normal class and then a class that is just for me and him and then that's how I approached changing learning for him now I understand completely that this is not something that is possible for everyone to do I feel very fortunate that I am good with money and that I'm able to have the extra money sitting around that I can do this for this student [Music] um but that was my Approach I found something that they were interested in and we honed in on it and it seems to be working Marvels he's improving in every single class not just mine and that makes me happy all right now I'm going to read some comments no I still disagree dark I think you are shows yes that shows you that they comprehend what they read if they can draw it then they comprehended what was happening in the scene from there you can even expand it a little bit further have them Maybe remix the scene you know if if you want to focus on analytical skills for instance really dive into what they have you know people with Autism are not really that different from uh neurotypical people they're really the only difference is that they speak a different language mentally you know and with the way that they connect with the world that's really the only difference and if you can think that book is on my reading list for whenever I start writing that title right now I'm on sci-fi horror because the story I'm re writing right now is a sci-fi horror novel so that's all I've been to understand when they get an F is that failure doesn't have to be the end uh it doesn't have to be a crushing thing you know I learned a lot from failures in life and I honestly am happy that I had the mindset I did Growing Up where I considered failure is an important part of my learning process not everyone feels that way and I think that their feelings are perfectly valid if they don't feel like failure is good for them I think that's perfectly valid to feel that way but for me I've always felt like um failures always gave me a reason to improve and that's how I framed it and I framed that it that way for students before and it seemed to really help them come to terms with a failure and assignment it really helped them improve so that's what I would try like explain first that failure doesn't mean they're stupid failure doesn't mean that they can't be smart or that they aren't smart it just means that they need to try again and that's an important lesson to learn when you fail you shouldn't give up well I'm trying to understand what you're saying because at least in the United States we have we don't rate off of numbers we rate off of a b c d f um abcdf yeah um and it sounds like you have a numbering system same concept just different notation I think we'll start the blueberry watering tomorrow to make sure everything's consistent I'm also gonna need to go to Gus rooted out of jealousy you know or maybe they're rooted out of um feelings of inadequacy because you were able to answer quickly something that they couldn't answer on their own and I think feelings of inadequacy are very uh common among people and that they're wrong for acting upon them in a way like that but their feelings are I think pretty typical [Music] Hey sir where are you [Music] [Music] somewhere where I would absolutely have to have some type of intervention happen yep dark's got the right uh well I don't know why that why that happened I can't I'm sorry that you didn't get what you deserved the dark and you're also completely right a PB PPG needs to handle that situation you can't let things like that Fester it's like bad emotions that you have just within yourself you know if you let bad emotions Fester within yourself then it just it pollutes and corrupts everything and you know uh classrooms and classroom dynamics are just like that too if you allow classroom dynamics to get corrupted then um they'd ever heal as a result it's like a cancer that spreads [Music] [Music] foreign you mean the student that was grading him was below him like emotionally uh I still don't think [Music] I still don't think that matters because you're talking about children here like it doesn't matter how advanced they are or how advanced we are sometimes things just hurt when the when things are said that we don't want them to be said so that's a situation that still has to be dealt with I think absolutely even if it were a joke it has to be dealt with just in the off chance the he likes being called it might be different like I said if I were looking at the case and I didn't know the people involved I'd handle it but if you're the professional and you know your kids you need to address it based off the kids that you have the kids you've been working with uh this whole time and if the kids you've been working with this whole time so I'm happy I don't think I feed fed these within my friend group was saying something like that I I would think that they were making fun of me and I'm old enough to not care I'm old enough to just ignore them and move on with my life but kids even if they're advanced in the socio social emotional side of things uh are not adults and have not had the same time to mentally develop as adults do and so even if they like being called that you shouldn't a kid could still be getting bullied and they might not even know that they're getting bullied I've had this happen in front of me before but I don't want them to have to look back on that moment and realize oh I was being bullied right then and get sad in the future so I think even if the kid liked it I would still address it because I have done that before I've had a kid who I think was getting bullied and he didn't think that he was getting bullied um but it still came across that way to me and I still addressed it well I don't I don't think that matters I mean we come across kids that are smarter than us all the time uh kids can be really good especially if they're really well read but it's even a more of a reason to show them to respect themselves because even super intelligent people don't always respect themselves so you've got to teach them that skill by respecting them the times that they don't respect themselves and they don't treat themselves in a respectable way around other people I had the student once who did not respect yourself and I noticed this and I noticed how it was hurting her even though she didn't think that it was hurting her and we had a conversation about that and now she is way happier she's way happier because we have that conversation and she changed the way that she approached dealing with people so that's just another case in defense of dealing with it I think because it's something that can't stand in the low percentage off chance that that is malicious they have to be dealt with because in the chance that it is malicious those things grow and they fester and they cause pain and part of our job is to guide and um protect students from pain as much as we can I think at least it's what I try to do and that protection shows up in different ways sometimes it's having a a stable role model in their life and that's what I try to be for my students I try some of them don't care and no matter what I say or how hard I work for like me and that's okay it's okay as long as I'm doing what I should be doing I credit me getting where I am in life to having really good teachers and I absolutely would not be where I am if I didn't have good teachers and so I think about what those teachers did for me and how they approached teaching and I try to emulate it the best I can if I had an overly gifted student I would uh give them something difficult to do something that is beyond the other students in the classes capabilities I've done this before Frankenstein is a college level text it's college level because it's written in a well it's written for an audience that uh everyone was supposed to be able to read literature at a higher level and novels at the time in 1818 were really only written for the elite and so it's written for that kind of um audience and as a result it's sometimes very hard to read for people who are not familiar with that register so when students are not being challenged I give them something more challenging to do because you need to challenge students intellectually and sometimes that is exactly what you need for engagement foreign [Music] that is incredibly bad and those feelings are not natural feelings or natural thoughts and if those are the thoughts that you're having you need to talk to somebody who is a professional that can help you through those have you spoken to your mother about what's going on at school foreign well it depends um it absolutely like they should uh that would be a great use of their skills you can even have them research the topic there's some idea with my honors class called the passion project and it's where I give them one day a week to um research or do anything that they're passionate about and you know it's sometimes successful and it's more accessible successful with some people than it is with others but for a student who's very intelligent and very interested in learning that type of assignment is very good for them so maybe try something like that you and what did your mom say when you told them told her that dark [Music] as she should as she absolutely should because the school shouldn't let that happen and if the school is aware of it then they need to stop it they need to separate you guys they need to make it sure that the bully doesn't have access to you anymore and if they're not doing that then the school needs to be held liable for that schools are supposed to keep Kids Safe schools are supposed to guide them towards their future and if they're not keeping you safe then they need to be held responsible for that foreign that's as simple as it is you shouldn't have to deal with that [Music] that's what I do man now you have to really think about how you're going to purchase with them because when students have been given uh total control over an assignment that they've never had that type of control before sometimes it's very difficult for students to think about what they're going to do and you need to really think about how you're going to introduce that to this student you know the way I do it is I tell them it can be about anything as long as they are developing something they've always wanted to learn it's valuable time foreign [Music] taking a solution a violent solution to that problem it's not what you want to do you know I have had those types of thoughts myself when I was younger when I was your age and I'm happy I never acted on them I'm happy I've never acted on them because I have found love in life I have found the beauty of life I didn't find it when I was your age I found it in adulthood I found it moving forward in life I found it in the acquisition of knowledge and uh by being kind to other people and I really hope that you find it in the same way I did because uh life is fun life is good um and but sometimes life isn't always that way and sometimes you got to work on to work up to it that bully absolutely needs to be handled with either from the parent side or from the school side you shouldn't be put in that situation um absolutely not your mom needs to know about that and uh if that type of stuff persists she needs to talk to the parents of the kid uh and if the parents of the kid don't want to um do anything about it then maybe there's a restraining order that needs to be put out maybe there's harassment cases that need to be filed parents are liable for the actions of their kids and if they cannot get their kid to leave you alone then your mom maybe needs to look into forcing them to make sure it stops well I think your mom made the the correct first move going to the school I think that's where she needs to start the school is responsible for making sure that that stops and if it continues um then the school is legally liable at least in the United States I don't know if it's different in in the UK but in the United States public schools are legally liable if they ignore these type of issues they absolutely do your teachers shouldn't ignore it um if I were you I would let the teachers know that this is an issue maybe they can separate you maybe they will uh can keep a better eye in the hallway and things like that to prevent something like this that happened I've had students report bullying type stuff to me before and my Approach was always to separate them in class and I would keep a closer eye on the bullies to prevent something like that from developing further what I'll say is that the the feeling of wanting to defend yourself is a natural one and I would not call it a wrong feeling what I will also say is that it won't necessarily fix the situation that you're in um not in a long-term way and it might reinforce Tendencies within yourself that you otherwise don't want to reinforce it's one of those things that might feel good that day and it might feel good that week but it doesn't lead to feeling good forever now whether you make the decision to do it or not that's up to you you need to make the decisions that you think are right or wrong and you need to learn one way or another from the the consequence good or bad of that decision hmm chickens are taken care of yeah you're right you would get the blame for that and um what I have noticed from students who have done that is uh they end up getting is inner school suspension or out of school suspension for it and it doesn't really help their situation it just postpone the situation you know you need to inform the proper people first and if those people to do their job then you need to make sure they do their job they need to do their job they need to do it right and they need to make sure we play in Terraria and if that doesn't happen then we gotta investigate other avenues I'm live on Twitch to
