A pickup truck suddenly pulled off the road beside him. The driver waved him down as if conducting an official stop, demanding his ID, questioning him like a federal officer, and even threatening to call immigration on him. [music] What's [singing] up, [ __ ] >> What's going on? >> Good, bro. >> Yeah. What happened? >> What happened with you? >> Nothing. Just going to work. >> Where? >> Westbam. >> Can I see your ID? >> What do you mean? Let me see your ID. >> You don't give me your ID. >> What are you saying? >> ID. >> All right. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Let me let me um Can I get your B uh badge number? You're you're police or I I What are you [music] camera? [music] >> The victim drove away, but the pickup truck didn't let go. It followed him down the street, swerved behind him with no headlights, then flashed its high beams while honking, impersonating a real traffic stop. The victim called 911, terrified. >> Yeah, we got a we got a guy here that is chasing me. He's as he's saying that he's eyes and he's chasing me. >> I'm here on um Yalaha. I'm going up to Ryan right now. I'm just going to drive around town. I'm going up to Ryan. Can you get a police out here? It's a great truck. It's a great truck. I'm parking at Rise right now at the at the store. >> He's flashing. He's like, I'm I'm not in a truck. I'm in a minivan. I'm picking up my guys to go to work. Can you get somebody out here? He's He's just following me behind. He's right there behind me. Uh like a minute. But can you get somebody out here, please? I don't know if he has a weapon. He's very close to me. I don't know why he's chasing me around to be honest with you. Yeah, that's what I'm doing. I'm just driving around here in Rice and he's not he's not letting me go. He's still here. He's still here. And he said that he's ice. He told me to show an ID. He said that he's ice. And he's not even ice. He has a red baseball cap on. Says Mexico on it. If you guys get a police here, man, you you'll be able to catch him. >> No, that's him. That's him blowing his horn. Hey, Alento Vo. He's behind Ryan right now. >> Deputies searched the area. Minutes later, they spotted the truck still inside the same neighborhood where the victim lived. A deputy stopped the driver, who was now identified as a local man returning home from a friend's house. >> Wait, what? You want me to step out the vehicle? >> Step out of the vehicle for me, please. >> What's going on? Uh there was this guys that was riding around in a black minivan. >> Okay. >> I don't know if they got papers or not, but they were threatening me. So I followed them and I caught officer law enforcement. >> Who law enforcement? They didn't get no call. >> No, I called. I called. They're over there in a black minivan. >> Okay. Either deputies going to be out with them right now. >> Okay. >> Okay. Right away, he noticed signs of intoxication, slurred speech, the smell of alcohol, and confusion. >> At any point, did you identify yourself as ICE? >> No. >> Are you sure about that? >> Yes, sir. >> You're absolutely positive. >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. I want you to let I want to let you know right now, identifying yourself as as a federal law enforcement, Yes, sir. >> is a crime. Hope you know that. >> Yeah. Yeah. But I didn't get that. >> All right. You have your ID with you? >> Yes, sir. >> I'm I'm just a Uber driver. >> Okay. >> Yeah. I get people riding my car. >> Yeah. >> Come on, sir. How are you? >> It's the one that was going that was following that that black van. The black fans over there. >> Okay. All right. Let me go talk to >> What's going on, sir? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. >> Do you mind? >> I got videos. I uh I was on the phone with uh You want me to verify? That's him. He has he has a red baseball cap on. It says Mexico. >> Okay. Do you mind if we uh >> I I got to go to work. I get I get I start work at 4 today. >> Okay. >> I got videos. Uh my guys got videos. But basically what he told me, he's like, "Hey, where are you going?" I was like, "No." He pulled up. He said, "What's up?" I said, "What's up with you?" He's like, "I'm ice. Can I see some ID?" I was like, "All right, show me your badge number." As soon as I said, "Show me your badge number and see if you're you're police." I mean, if you're ICE. If not, I'm going to call the police. Okay. >> And then he just took off. He almost he almost crashed and he took off on the side of the road. >> Do you mind if I just get a little bit of information from you real quick? >> Sure. >> All right. Hold on one second. >> I can give you >> the reason why I called the cops is because they were following me. The reason why I called because they were following me and they over here threatening me. So I I was hitting blocks. >> So they were threat So what were they threatening you for? >> No, they they um I don't know. They were they were trying to start something. They had a group of people in the car with them. So I I stay out the way and that's why I call the cops and I I'm not going to lie. I act like I was like I'm like I'mma call the cops on you. I told him I'mma call the cops on you. I act like I was ICE. I'm like I'mma call the cops on you because whatever you did, they were over there running around in circles. >> But uh I'm calling my dad right now to tell him. >> Okay. >> Hey. Yeah. Ask ask him some questions. Um mine is stating that they were trying to start some some beef with him. Um, >> okay. >> I also got a camera. I I mean I can I can wrap the video later and and and send you the the the the the video. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> All right. So, what's your name? >> Uh, Kato. >> Yep. >> Okay. Um, and then just so kind of run me through what exactly happened. >> So, yeah, like I said, um, so I had to start work at 4 today. So, I left home. I did see a truck coming cuz I I'm parked like this, right? >> And then I see a truck. He just turned around. I went back to Martin. You know where Martin Street is, right? >> I went back cuz I live in Little Indian. So, I went back and then as I uh exit Martin to get into Little Indian again, that's where he pulled off to the side of the road and then he just followed me from there like real close almost crashing into me. I'm like, what's wrong with these guys? I'm turning. He's turning with me and then I have to pick up some guys uh here by bar guy. That's where he pulled off. I'm I'm like far and he pulled up on the side, not on this side. He pulled up on that side and I pulled down my window and he said, "Hey, what's up?" I'm like, "What's up with you?" He's like, "Uh, can I see some ID?" Or he's like, "Where you going?" I said, "I'm going to work." Where? He's like, "All right, can I see some ID? I'm ice." I'm like, "I'm just letting my dad know." >> But the reason why I call is because I was trying to act like, you know, cuz they were following me. I'm just I'm just I was trying to head home and they were following me and they had like a couple guys and I started chasing them around the circle so I could get their license plate and I called and I told uh whoever answer the phone I told them that they don't got papers. I'm over here behind the back. They were messing with me. I'm trying to get home safe and that was it and I hung up and the lady was like, "All right, I'm I'm going to send some my 30s out." But that's when I was just trying to get home safe. They were there. >> Do you know them? >> No, I don't. I don't. That's why I called the cops. >> How did all this How all this occur? Where were you coming from? And like >> I was coming this way. I was coming back coming from Indian town. >> Okay. >> I'm coming this way and I'm heading this way on the curb. That's where I met them and they were all packed. So I started like going behind them. I even gave the lady the license plate. >> What what I'm asking is how did this start? Cuz this doesn't just start that you just pulled on to Indian a and then it just happened out of nowhere. Yeah. >> It started because when I came in town, when I when I came in town, >> and they were they were reacting with me. They were like, "Oh, this and that." They they cussed me out >> just out of >> Yeah. Out of nowhere, they started threatening me. And there were a bunch of people in the van with them. They're like this and that. And I'm like, "Okay, I'm going to call the cops." And I started chasing them. And they started going around in circle. And >> I caught the cops which I I told the lady this is the license plate and they're the one threatening me and I just don't want to be involved with the police. I'm going to just go home. She like okay I'm going to send somebody out. >> Okay. >> You know that's why. But instead y'all pull me over. I don't know. Sure. >> Can I get my license? >> Give us a second. >> And I I can see he's not he's dressed in um civilian clothes. So, um, and then he when he heard me say that, I got my phone in, uh, on my my hand already ready to go cuz I knew there was something on with him. And then he just took off. He almost hit me. Like I said, just give me a call on that number. Uh, we can verify it later. I don't want to be late for work. We got a very, very, very important tournament going on at work right now. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Just uh, if you got time later, I get I get back from work at like 11:00. He lives with me. You can go out to my house. You can speak. I can show you the video and do everything cuz I want I want you guys to take this guy. >> He didn't he didn't show you a badge or >> he did not show me a bad but he did mention I got it. Like I said you have any any firearm that you saw or anything? >> I mean I mean he he he was like this. >> His hand was right here. >> Did you see a firearm? >> I did not see a firearm. I'm not going to lie. I'm not I did not see anything. >> Listen, I'm I'm trying to tell you exactly what happened. Um, and then kind of go from there. Yeah, I do not see anything. >> Okay. All right. And so that's that's the shark right there. >> I think if you want me to verify, I can look at him real quick and I can see if that's him or not. But he has a a red baseball cap on that says Mexico. >> He's from Mexico. >> Yeah. >> Let me go down there and see. >> Yeah. Just don't just uh let me know if he's wearing that hat and then we'll go from there. >> I just see some turn around. >> Yeah. Just turn around for me. >> Hey, on the on the back of the hat, it What did he say? It says Mexico. This is just a Miami Heat hat. I don't even know what this is. Like, would he be able to if we if he drove by like like a show up, would he be able to would he be able to like uh point him out? >> I was the one that called. I was the one that called, officer. >> Yeah, I got that. I called in. I called. >> They're walking away. I'm I'm the one who called. >> Okay. >> I'm trying to I'm trying to get home safe. >> Y'all go follow me home. I'm just trying to get home safe. >> No, but I confirmed your call. That's why I was on the phone with dispatch. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> He pulled up next to the next to the car and said that he was ice. >> I'm telling him to come down. >> All right. So, what we're going to do, if you can just I'm going to pull I'm going to swing around and then if you can just follow me, I'm going to park behind that vehicle. >> We just need to positively identify him. Okay. >> All right. It's going to be a real quick story like >> Yeah. Yeah. No, it will. >> Yeah. >> Do you recognize any of them? >> No, I don't. >> No. Nobody like you had beef with? Nobody? They were trying to come. >> Did they Did they yell at you? Did they start? >> Yeah, they yell, but I don't know who what who they are. That's why I called the cops. >> Well, what they what did they yell at you? Like, did they say anything specific like threatening or they said something that were >> They yelled at me, but I don't I don't recall what they said. So, they yelled at me, but I don't recall what they say. >> Anything [clears throat] any anything specific that that you that you that you can come come across, right? >> No, no, no. They they yelled at me, but I don't know what they recall. They started following me. And they started hitting around. Um, >> and you said and you said when you got into the town like from Citrus or from Indian Town? >> No, I was coming over the bridge. >> Coming over the bridge. >> Yeah. Or St. Lucy way. The trailer park. >> I was coming this way and I went this way and that's when I seen them >> and they started trying to, you know, hey [ __ ] you this and that. And then after that they started, you know, I started following them and I caught I started dialing the number. I caught a cop. I called y guys. I gave the lady the um the threatening part. That's why I'm asking you like if they were say saying something threatening, I want to make sure it's it's like like what did you hear that was threatening cuz words matter. >> Yeah. But I don't know because they speak Spanish. So there a bunch of Spanish guys. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> There a bunch of Spanish guys. I was trying to go home safe. >> Um ask for IDs. >> Stay right there. >> You you could just stay in your vehicle. >> Stay there. >> Um >> say what now? I'm sorry. Um so he pulled next to them. It was a nice agent. um asked for his IDs. He didn't believe at that point that he was a ICE agent. Uh just saw plain clothes. Um I asked him if he showed a badge or anything like that. >> Couldn't ask for ID. >> Yes, he did ask for do one at a time. >> Yes, sir. >> All right, sir. So, what we're going to do is if you want to step out of the vehicle with me, >> um I'll walk you to the right side of the vehicle just so you can positively identify them for me. >> All right. So, if you just want to hang out right around here, can you tell from here? >> That's definitely him. >> That's him. >> Yeah. Yeah, that's him. That's the guy here. So, yeah, that that's a red red uh cap that I was telling you about. >> Okay. >> Glasses. That's That's a guy. >> Now, who else? Uh here. Just step back with me over here. >> Yeah. Who else is the Okay. Can you bring him out and have him verify to just verify? I know he doesn't speak English. Just tell him he could give me Tell him all he has to do is either give me a thumbs up or thumbs up. Yeah. >> To the side. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No. No. No. Talking between you. Just come up. >> If If it's him, give tell him to give me a thumbs up. Have a seat. Just have a seat for us for a few minutes. Okay. >> Just have a seat back in your van. >> I I need to go to work. I have >> Okay. You got a You want to see my ID or whatever? >> I just don't have. >> All right. So, let me just get your your information real quick. >> As far as did he flash the headlights at all? >> He did not flash the headlight. And then as far as when he did pull up next to you. >> Yeah. >> What manner did he pull up next to you? Did he? >> Oh, he was aggressive. >> He was aggressive. >> Yeah. Okay. Yeah, he was aggressive. >> But why did you stop? >> Cuz I had to pick up my guys. >> Okay. >> Yeah, I had to pick up my guys. >> Did he try to like cut you off or anything? >> No, he did not. That's good. Good for me. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Good night. >> You have a good night. Like I said, >> good day. >> You guys have any more uh video? I got it on video. I got a dash cam. >> I got a dash cam. I can you help how help you get that footage. Oh, I got a ri at home. I can just vlog it in when I get home. >> Cut off cut the video. You going to work right now? >> I'm going to work. I got to get >> What time do you get back on? >> Uh about 10:30, 11. >> 10:30. >> And if you need my You got my address if you need it. >> I'll have one from the dealership with you. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Sounds good, sir. >> You have a good night. Good morning. Y >> All right, sir. Are you on the phone? >> Yes, sir. >> All right. Well, could you just do me a favor and just step over here for me for a second? >> Yeah. >> All right. So, what I'm gonna do, I'm just gonna read you this. Uh I'm gonna read you this real quick. All right. Um so, what you have on >> All right. Well, listen. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law. Do you understand each of these rights that I've explained to you? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. with uh with that being you wish to talk to me. >> But I was the one that called the cops though. >> Okay. So what's going on? >> The reason why I called the cops because they were over here threatening me. Well, they were I was coming from Indian town and I caught a cop. There was a bunch of Migos in the car. They were over here trying to threaten me and try to throw me off. I followed them and they was riding around in circles. >> Okay. So >> I get I give the license plate to them. >> Why did you follow them? because they were they were trying to threaten me and try to put me in a situation that I want to be in. So that's why I called the cops and I gave the lady the information that I need to and I g I gave her the license plate of the of the car they have and they were driven. There was a bunch of them. There were like probably six or seven of them. I I felt like my life was in danger. That's why I called a cop. >> Okay. >> Do me a favor. Step in front of this vehicle for a second. >> Yes, sir. >> Put your phone on the uh on the dash. >> Yeah. >> All right. Put your hands. I need you to put stand behind. >> Why? >> We'll explain it to you in a second. >> We're going to explain that to you just in a second. All right. Not too tight. You're good. >> All right. All right. So, we're going to walk on this side of my vehicle. All right. >> What else do you have in your pockets? >> Nothing. >> Nothing. Um >> I'm not sure to be honest. Probably a pocketk knife. pocket knife. >> Okay. Is it going to be open or is it going to be closed? >> It's going to be closed. I don't know if it's in my pocket. On my truck. >> All right. Your pocketk knife is not in either of these pockets. Would it be anywhere else or no? Maybe in your truck. >> Okay. Do me a favor. Take a seat here for a second. Right. >> Yes, sir. >> I'm just trying to get home. Let me get my stuff. >> All right. So, at this time, you are going to be arrested. >> You're getting arrested for impersonating a law enforcement officer or a federal agent? >> I'm not I'm not I didn't know that. I called the cops. I was the one that called cuz they did it. >> Okay. Um, as far as the keys or as far as your uh your hackos and everything like that, do you want to take that with you to the jail or you want me to leave it in the truck? >> Can I take it to jail? >> The hat you want to take? You're not going to be able to wear it? >> No, but I'm saying but why would I get arrested? I was the one that cut. >> Okay. Okay. Do you want the hat or not? Can I talk to my dad right now? >> Because you can't wear it in the jail. >> Can I talk to my dad right now? >> No, you can't. >> No. >> Why not? My dad's on the line. >> I'm going to leave your hat in your car. >> What's that? >> Your phone. I have your phone. >> I was trying to call the police. You ain't got [ __ ] to do. I swear to God, bro. You act like this [ __ ] >> Just because you call us doesn't mean that you're always in the right. >> Okay. They call too. >> I was the one that called before. >> So it's not a race to who calls us first. >> He was arrested and charged with impersonating a public officer, stalking, resisting an officer without violence, disorderly intoxication.
