March 11th, 2026, a lawyer entered a jail to visit a client, but the lawyer ended up in more trouble than the client. Brian Pory was accused by jail staff of attempting to smuggle drugs into the facility using an eyeglass case, but that's just the beginning. But when you see how this case ends, drugs will be the least of his legal problems. >> All right, mister. Um, I'm Officer Salazar of the Cibola County Sheriff's Department. >> Yes, sir. >> Um, so I'm here for you, okay? So if you want to go to my unit, we can talk a little bit, okay? Um, so under the suspicion that you may have brought uh some kind of controlled substance into the facility, okay? >> Okay. What can I do for you? >> Okay, let's head to my unit and we'll just go. >> Am I under arrest? >> Not at the moment. But you are detained right now. This is just just for investig- investigatory purposes, okay? Um, so I just want to go through your rights, okay? You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in a court of law, okay? If you want a legal representative while we speak, you can do so, okay? Um >> Well, I am an attorney. >> I mean, even better for you, right? >> Brian Pory was a long-time Albuquerque criminal defense attorney who had practiced law for nearly four decades. According to investigators, he arrived at the Cibola County Correctional Center to meet with a client when corrections officers searched an eyeglass case he had brought into the facility. >> Yes. Um, with these rights of mine, do you wish to speak with me, sir? >> Uh >> Sure, I can say anything I want. It's up to you whether or not I'm under arrest. >> saying that you possibly brought Suboxone into the facility. We found 100 Suboxone strips, okay? >> [laughter] >> I don't know where they get Suboxone. They searched my stuff. My stuff is still in there. So I don't know who's had access to it when I'm not there. And I've never been suspected of anything like this. So that's not true. >> Jail staff reported finding Suboxone strips sewn into the inner lining of the eyeglass case. Pory denied knowing the drugs were there and told officers he wouldn't even know where to get it. According to reports, Pory maintained that a client's relative had dropped off the eyeglasses at his law office and asked him to deliver them to an inmate. He said he checked only that the glasses complied with jail policy and never searched inside the lining of the case. >> So, their investigator for the facility is coming out and I'm going to speak with them. And if it's all rubbish, then I'll be more than happy to to kick you loose, okay, man? >> Try to stand at the back of this for these vehicle. >> Just for now because I'm trying to I'm going back and forth with peace though. I know you're not going to hurt me, but it's just protocol, you know what I mean? >> What's going on? >> Uh, you know, just uh So, uh they were going through this attorney stuff as he was coming in. He had an eyeglass case. It's a soft eyeglass case and they just opened it up to like look inside of it. Well, there's a bunch of packs of Suboxone lining that that eyeglass case. >> Okay. >> And then he just turned around and decided to split, left his bag, his laptop, legal work, all that stuff there. >> Brian Pory leaving his bag behind, particularly his computer, will play a very big role moving forward. >> He he got caught. He didn't even get into the body scanner. >> Okay. >> Uh, they they were just going through his stuff. >> Do you have his name that you know? >> The this individual? >> Yeah. >> Brian Pory. >> Pory, okay. >> So, I contacted my guy at the Marshal Service and let him know, "Hey, bro, if an attorney is trying to bring some stuff in." So, >> So, they're getting a warrant for like this incident? >> Yes, I believe so. >> Huh. Okay. Do you Do you happen to have his contact cuz I don't want to step on toes if they already >> You heard that right. The feds are involved and they were already investigating Porry and had him in their sights. >> Um this is a picture of the items with Suboxone all lined inside the the eyeglass case. >> Okay. >> The way which came out of uh his his bag that he carried into here. >> Okay. All right, sir. If you would step out, okay? I'm going to do you the courtesy and I'm not going to put you in handcuffs in the back, okay? >> It's actually how much? >> in the front just so it's more comfy. >> Okay. >> Okay. Does that sound good? >> No, it doesn't sound good at all. >> it >> I You have no choice, officer. You have to do what you have to do. >> Given the circumstances, I mean >> This is outrageous. >> Okay. >> it's outrageous. I'm trying to come represent a client. For whatever reason they don't like me. I said something they didn't like and they're going to manufacture this stuff. This is outrageous. It's outrageous. Can you imagine? >> All right, you're good to go, sir. Come on. You can relax. We'll let you out of the gate. You bring those. >> What is that? >> Have a seat right there. Have a seat here. >> All right, right, sir. >> See if you can lift any prints off of it. >> Um I believe they dissolve, right? They're water soluble. >> It should be a package, right? Plastic casing. >> Oh yeah, that's right. >> And so the fingerprints are on there. And they're not mine. So I know that the fingerprints are the jailers cuz they weren't wearing gloves. But mine's not going to be on there. And if there's no fingerprints on there, they didn't take it from my immediate possession and control. It's a setup. Two weeks away from retirement. >> Two weeks? >> Two weeks. How's that for an indignity? Indignity. >> You've been practicing for over 40 years? >> 40 years. >> As a lawyer for over 40 years, it's unclear if Brian Porry has ever advised any of his clients to debate the merits of a case with a police officer while handcuffed in jail. But that seems to be what he's about to do on his own behalf. >> I think I'm pretty well respected among the judges in the US District Court and they won't tell me what they listen. And I was falsely accused because they didn't like my attitude or whatever motivated them. >> How do you How do you accuse someone of possessing something when they're when they're in possession of it? If I give you a box and you take the box from me and then you say, "Look, inside this box it just came out of your hands." It's a box. That's a good case. If I give you a box and you take the box and you send me back to my car and the box is sitting there and then you say, "I found some boxes." That's a bad case. >> Unless it's all video recorded. Which it is. >> So, what they're going to be able to say they saw me touch something? Just fingerprint for me, please. Fingerprint. >> Well, that case would also need a control. >> A control? >> Yeah. >> Well, I'd give you fingerprints. I'll give you you my fingerprints and I'll touch you. Although they already have them on file in the US Marshal's office. So, you don't have to give me fingerprints. >> So, like my for my line of thought is with your box analogy, if I bring the box in and I set the box down and then I leave and everything's been recorded and the contents of the box is unchanged. >> But that's the thing, sir. That's a nice analogy except that what happens when I give you a box and you go through it go through it in detail. You pull out a map of Hawaii Volcano National Park and you look at it. You pull out money. You go through my wallet. You go through everything. You go through it. Right? And then you don't accuse me of anything. You sent me away. For testing, you gave me the opportunity to leave. Morning. >> How are you doing? Other than this stuff. >> I'm very upset. I'm very, very upset. And I see that this jail is the worst jail in the world. >> I feel the same time >> the worst jail in the world. And all the contraband that comes in here and they're going to accuse me falsely of bringing contraband. Why would I bring in contraband? >> Well, I'm with >> I'm a small >> I'm with medical. I just wanted to verify something. I just have some medical questions for >> I'm sure. >> Okay. Can you tell me what today's date is? >> It's March 11th, 2026. Okay. And you want to read me you you I mean >> Thank you, sir. That's all I needed to know. >> Thank you. >> Try to relax. >> Try to relax. Okay. >> After the arrest, the investigation expanded beyond the original state contraband allegation. Because the Cibola County Correctional Center houses federal detainees, federal investigators became involved in the case. According to court records, Pory later gave the FBI written consent to search his cell phone and laptop as investigators looked for evidence related to the alleged drug smuggling. According to a federal criminal complaint filed in May 2026, investigators searching those devices discovered illegal images on Pory's laptop. Brian Pory was federally charged with one count of possession of If convicted, that charge carries a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in federal prison. Then in June 2026, a federal grand jury returned an indictment charging Pory with two counts of attempting to provide buprenorphine, commonly known as Suboxone, to two inmates at the Cibola County Correctional Center. The indictment also included the federal possession charge. Brian Pory has denied wrongdoing. He has maintained that he was an unwitting participant who had no knowledge drugs were hidden inside the eyeglass case. Brian Pory is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. Like and subscribe for more body cam coverage like this.
