An off-duty police officer gets busted by a home surveillance system. On a November night in Rio Rancho, police officers were dispatched to a disturbance. But when police officers arrive at the scene, they'll learn an off-duty police officer's already there, but not to help. He's the suspect. >> Police department. Police department. >> Hello. Hello. >> Rio Rancho PD, what's going on? >> Um, we just had a just a domestic dispute, I guess. I politely I've asked him to let go of me and my belongings, and he wouldn't leave. >> What was going on? >> Um, he got home 30 seconds after he pulled up in the driveway. I didn't tell him that I was not here at the house. So, I get called all the names. >> The victim had already informed the dispatcher that the man at her house was an off-duty police officer. >> [snorts] >> Okay, who's the officer? >> Him. >> Well, what's his name? Who we're asking. Cuz we're going to find out who he is cuz he's one of us. >> His name is Jeremy Navarez. >> Okay. Is he I know he's an officer. Does he have weapons in the house? How is he going to act with those? >> Uh, about 15 minutes ago, but I'm not sure. >> Has he been drinking or anything? >> [snorts] >> And then, physical happened today? >> I mean, other than him not letting me go and >> What was he doing? Okay, what happened with that? >> I don't know. Between me trying to get away from him and between I don't think we're going to do that anymore. I don't know when it happened. >> So, like you were trying to leave, and he >> I'm trying to push him away, and he just says that he's not willing to give up. He's not willing to let go, so he just says, "Let me just love on you." And I don't I've asked him and I asked him five times to let go of me. >> So, how long has he stayed within this recent period, or is it just Did he stay last night? Did he stay the night before? >> No, he was going to stay tonight. He hasn't stayed since I don't know. Maybe Saturday night or Friday night or >> Okay, so he doesn't have any personal items here. >> He has five things in a plastic bag at the front door and I let him put the plastic bag so that he could move. >> Got you. And with him holding you, where is this taking place at in the house? >> In the living room and [snorts] the kitchen. >> Okay. And he came up to you, and he held you. How did he hold you? Was it by the arms or by the head? >> he like tries to hug me. And I try to push him away, so >> And that's from him? >> I It's really broken. But um I don't know when that happened. >> Okay, you don't know how you got those injuries. >> Well, I know that it happened during like the struggle, but I don't know at what point in the hallway. >> Okay, what struggle are you talking about? >> Just trying to get him away from me and off of me. And then he refused to give me He put one of my keychains on his keys, and he refused to give that back. I don't At some point in time in the hallway. >> Okay. So, it's the whole struggle, the hugging part, and you're trying to get off You're trying to push him off. >> Between that and between like me trying to get my things back from him. though. >> What happened with that? >> Just in the hallway. I mean, he was just trying to get his keys. That's probably what cut me, but >> Okay. So, do you think he'll be cooperative with us or not? >> Oh, probably not. He knows exactly what to do to be cool. >> And what did you do after? Did you run away from him? Did you >> I didn't come back I kept the Well, he did it twice, but I kept either the island between me or the couches between me and him. >> And you were shouting at him and you were yelling? >> Yes. >> Okay. So, when he was holding you, did you feel at that moment you weren't free to leave? >> No, not at all. He's not going to make me. >> No, I said during that moment he was holding you, did you feel that you were not free to leave? >> Correct. Yes. I could not leave. He was stronger than me. I could not leave. Um he doesn't know this, but I have like the entire um restraining order paperwork filled out for like when it comes to such a head as this. Um >> So, it's been progressively getting worse? >> Oh, yeah. >> Hello, sir. How are you doing? >> Uh-huh. >> Please come out. It's fine. If you want, you can stay in the room or you can stay outside if you >> I'll just stay out here. >> Yes, that's fine. Is Jeremy? >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, what's going on tonight, man? >> Uh just argument. Um >> [snorts] >> just about I guess kind of over communication throughout the day. So, um came here. It's kind of just little tense from the beginning. Kind of just asked her like, you know, if just let me go. If you If you're done, be done. Um tried hugging her. That didn't pan out. She said that it hurt her back. I let her go. Uh I had my stuff over there to leave. A bag with the stuff in the front to leave. Um she wanted the keychain off the keys that I have. I was like, "Well, you gave it to me. I I don't want to give it back." Like, and then we ended up kind of just talking it out from there about what we could do better or if we could need to end the relationship or go from there. >> And then so you guys start arguing. >> Yes. >> And then at that point, did you guys have any contact, physical contact, or anything? >> So, she went to grab the keychain and I just pulled it away. And that was about it. >> Okay. All right. I have some questions for you. Were you guys talking before we got here? >> Yes. >> Okay. Were you guys showing any kind of physical violence or trying to figure out what to do? This is a [ __ ] war, isn't it? >> It was. To be truthful. >> Did you hit him? >> I hit him. >> Okay. >> I told him no doubt. >> And was it a keychain or the key that you wanted? >> It's the keychain. >> Okay. The keychain is just a keychain. It doesn't have any keys on it? >> No. It's just a little hot dog thing that belongs to my brother. >> Okay. >> That's all it is. >> Okay. Okay. Um he said you guys were in the first talking in the somewhere in the bathroom or in the bedroom. >> Yes. In the bathroom. >> And you guys he tried hugging you or he did hug you. What did he do when he did that? Um what happened to her hand? >> I think that possibly happened with the keychain. >> Oh, okay. >> So, I don't know. I That would be the only assumption that I'd have cuz other than that we didn't really do that other than hug. So, I think that happened with the keychain. >> As in when she was trying to grab it? >> When she Yeah, when she grabbed it and I pulled it away. It has my car keys on there. So, um and yeah, that was when like yeah, I was trying to leave at that point. And that didn't work out. So. >> You were you were trying to leave at that point? >> Yeah, that's where that bag is at the front. And she was like, "Give me the keychain." I'm like, "Well, you gave it to me. Like, just let me go." And she went to grab it and I like pulled it out, pulled it away. And I think that's possibly where it came from. If not, then I would not have any idea where it came from after that. Cuz it wouldn't have come from my hug or anything like >> And you guys were standing right here or over by the bag? >> to the like refrigerator area. >> Okay. When >> Yes. >> the key thing. Got you. Okay. At any point did either of you actually end up trying to leave or either of you end up actually ever going outside, going to your cars or anything? >> No. >> Okay. >> No. We would know that we didn't make that far. All that's when we kind of sat here and talked. >> Okay. >> [snorts] >> Any other type of physical contact or anything like that happen during this tonight other than the hug and the key >> and like that stupid key chain, but that was it. >> Okay. >> And I mean in there, yes, we kind of like hugged it out. She uh was blowing her nose and I would like went to rub her back and that was pretty much it. And that's how I like think the argument started in the bathroom. >> Okay. I got you. >> So, >> we walked in the door and I said, "I don't want you here. You're going to be like this. I'm so tired. >> [snorts] >> I don't want to spend the night with you if you're going to act like this. I'm so tired of arguing like this. He was coming to the kitchen side and talking and calmed down. So, we went inside. Started talking. And we're arguing because he goes an hour and a half without texting me and I don't sit there and go, "Are you okay? What's wrong? How are you?" He says I don't tell him that I had a waxing appointment and that he don't tell him that I stopped by Target on my way. And that he don't wait every 30 seconds or however long not that long until we can get back to the apartment. >> Mhm. >> So, he was arguing about that and I just walked away and I said, "I'm I'm done. I'm tired of arguing like this. I'm tired of doing this." And through us like yelling back and forth, he comes over and he's "I'm just trying to love on you. Can we just end this argument and let me love on you?" And I said, "No, I don't want you to touch me because The first one was like on that side of the island because I finally broke free closer to the like >> Okay, so >> back part. >> And then you said you were planning on going to walk to >> Yes. >> So just when you were going on you, where you guys at in the house? I don't I don't understand this side of the the island of when you're house. So tell me the scripting. >> In in the kitchen. >> Mhm. >> This is on the north side of the the south side of the island. >> Mhm. >> In the kitchen. And I broke free on the southeast side. >> Okay, but >> of the kitchen. >> When you had broken free, was he already on you? >> He I don't want to grab you. >> No, yeah, I'm just I'm just >> But like he was like holding me and I'm like I have my hands like pushing him like this. >> Mhm. Like I understand the perspective. Like I have my job I have to protect and all that stuff like that. I I shouldn't even let it get to this point. Should have just I guess left or tried to leave faster. I have no idea. Um but if you want me here, cool, be here. If not, cool. A lot of pressure. I mean I you probably know. Like I I was on the news for that stupid dog traffic stop. It's been a lot of pressure. >> Jeremy is talking about a controversy he created while on duty. A family was rushing to the vet with a dying dog and Jeremy stopped and held the family at gunpoint. It became a big media story. The dog later died and the family filed a lawsuit. >> Um I mean because of that, my son's mom ended up taking me back to court for my son and custody like that. So it's been like super tense. >> Mhm. Yeah, that's tough. >> I'm so sorry, man. Cuz everything you said pretty much aligned. And when I asked him about that, he's like, "The only thing I can think of is that fighting." she was trying to get the keys. She cut it on the keys. Like as she went to grab the key chain. He's like my car keys were around there and stuff. He's like I don't know. That's the only thing I could think of. He's like she just accidentally kind of like accidentally went to grab it and then her hand got sliced. >> There's a mark right here. There's a mark right here. >> Did I just scratch it? >> I didn't mean to. >> I mean you're I mean as far as everything else that he said, I mean his story is pretty much all right. >> There's no such thing as different versions. It's just it's So when you guys go over there and you ask why didn't you let her go? When she said let me go. >> Mhm. >> After you let her go, what happened with the knife? I don't know what happened with the knife. I just kind of let myself get over here. And then I don't know what happened with the knife and then I asked you. That's happening in that in her bedroom. >> Um all right. Um can you going back to the hugging uh you know, when you guys were having your hug over here, can you kind of describe that again? >> Um >> [snorts] >> trying to hug her normally. I'd put my arms around her and she was like, "No." And I'm like, "Listen, I I love you. Like just make it work." She's like it's hurting my lower back and then I let her go. And then yeah, this is the only one I remember. She was like, "No. Like please. Like just let me go. It's my lower back's hurting a little bit." >> Okay. So on those both occasions she told you no. So why would you continue to try and hold her? >> Yeah, just trying to I guess just make it work at some point. >> Okay. Um is that a camera? Is that a >> I believe so. Yes, sir. >> Does it record? Or you wouldn't know? >> I wouldn't know. >> Okay. >> I don't know if they do or not. I'm not too sure. >> Would it capture any of the arguing or any of the just kind of set in stone type of ordeal like cuz that can't lie. That can't lie. >> I know it like catches from like If it does record, I think it's there to there. She has it for the dogs. >> Got you. >> So, it catch like from that end of the couch to the hallway. >> Mhm. >> And I think that's about it. >> Was there anything that happened between >> That So, I think that's where the the key happened and that's where I do like pull it away. >> Okay. >> Cuz she don't want the key chain. I'm like, "Well, you just gave it to me." Like, "Let me go." In the hallway, I already made my way out. >> Got you. Okay. >> So, that's Yeah. >> All right. Good deal. So, I noticed you had a camera or faces out towards you guys. Does that record? >> It records in 30-second bits of motion. So, there's no guarantee. The problem is that when they try to look back, it From the first sense of motion, it catches 30 seconds and then it stops recording for 20 minutes. That's how long it takes to recharge the battery. >> Okay. >> Until it resets. >> Do you think the other phone only had a chance? >> It's in the bathroom. >> Do you mind if I go and get it and see if I can look at it? >> Yeah, it's on my It's on a green jacket or But, it's in the bathroom. If you go down the hallway to the right and another right. >> Okay. Um what kind of phone is it? >> It's an iPhone. >> Okay. Okay. Let me do it one more time cuz someone was talking on the radio. [ __ ] most inconvenient time. And that was the first or second time? I know you showed him. Can you show me the video of him, the hug where he comes from behind you? Is that the whole interaction with that? >> That's the whole So, it records for 30 seconds and then it [snorts] takes like a 2-minute break. So, I finally pushed him away and got away, but it stopped recording. >> And how long did you Do you feel like that hug that one right there right behind you goes on for? >> A minute? A minute? Maybe a minute. >> If you You're on that video cuz I If you let go, I don't know if that'd be an unlawful battery just cuz he I mean, a hug. And then she's like, "Let go." and then you storm away. >> No. I told her to get off of me. You know what I mean? Cuz she didn't It happened twice that she's talking about. And he did it twice. After you were told to get off of me. I was just trying to get you out of here. And so, that's Technically, he's done it three times in your room. >> Do you want to do anything? >> But like I said, he's talking to his lawyer and he's going to court. >> Yeah. >> It'll be a long time. And I won't be around. He says I'm always in his life. >> So, so you're good with Hi, Jeremy. Um, explained a couple things, but he's standing up now. We're going to have one count battery household member. Take the walkie-talkies. >> Maybe we call someone to get >> We'll Yeah, we'll We'll work with him. >> We'll also give him a call. >> Jeremy Navarez was arrested and charged with battery. As a result, he was fired from the police department. He later pled guilty and a judge sentenced him to 1 year of supervised probation and ordered him to complete anger management, a parenting class, and intervention program. He is permanently prohibited from carrying a firearm. In the comment section, let us know if you believe the officers treated the suspect like anyone else in a similar situation.
