He threatened to kill me and my mom and himself. >> A woman said she was assaulted and held against her will, revealing [music] a disturbing night of threats, violence, and a weapon inside the home she shared with her long-term partner. >> Hi. Good morning, ma'am. I know you dealt with my partner just a second ago. >> Um, are you finishing up with your statement? >> Yes. >> Okay. All right. Um, just so I know, I'm going to read your statement, but just can you tell me briefly what what's going on this morning? >> Um, it started yesterday morning. Um we've we've had some problems since November. >> You say we who? >> Me and my significant other. >> Okay. >> And um my mom lives with me also. And um he um was um not liking some things that I had done 40 years ago. >> Okay. >> Um and questioning me and not liking my answers, harassing me. >> Um and I knew that it would escalate. Um so I started trying to get some things together cuz I just knew that it was going to go. I could tell his mood and everything. Um he's got a lot of health problems. He's epileptic. Um and so um by the evening by um last night uh after I got my mom to bed around 11:00 um he started questioning more and I wasn't giving him the answers that he wanted. And so I tried to get away and he forced me back into the bedroom. Um he knocked my glasses off my face. He twisted my arm around, made me get into the bed. >> This was last night. >> Yeah. And so, um, he, um, you know, he's like, "You're going to, you know, I'm going to make you tell me the truth. I'm going to make you give me these answers." Um, >> is he still at the house right now? >> Yeah. >> Okay. And >> And your mom's there with him? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Um, I snuck out. He doesn't No, he hid my keys. He hid my phone. He hid my wallet. Um, >> is he asleep right now? >> I hope he's still asleep. Um, he doesn't sleep well, so I don't know. Um, he threatened to kill me and my mom and himself. He had like this sword dagger kind of thing. Um, and um, you know, I like had to beg, beg, beg, beg, beg to please, you know, not hurt me. Please don't hurt me. Um, I p I faked having um a heart attack or, you know, chest pains um laying down on the floor. um just trying to get him to stop and leave me, you know, and leave me alone. Um so finally um he did and I guess he eventually fell asleep. I woke up at about 3:30 this morning, saw that he was asleep, started looking around, find my keys and my phone, my wallet. still don't know where my phone is, but um my mom has dementias and um a lot of health problems. So, I was worried that if I tried to get her out with me that we wouldn't get out, >> right? >> Um he's not >> Has he made any threats towards your mom? >> He he said he was going to kill >> that was Yeah. He was going to kill all of us. Um >> do you think that that was like his response to I'm going to kill you or like towards your mom? Was that like an upset response or was it like a legitimate like I'm going to hurt you? >> I think it's an upset trying to be controlling. Extremely extremely controlling. >> Um, but >> has he had any history of this before? like has this been an ongoing issue or >> he um him and I grew up as kids together, but I haven't seen him um for like 40 years and but we've been together almost four. >> Um but in November, back in November, he had found out that I was check texting with an old boyfriend and he just kind of went over the deep end and he just has not been able to come back. Um we had um I heard in common. >> No. Nope. Um that's my house. Um but he lives with me and back in the end of November. The um he wouldn't let me go to work. He had my phone. Um my work called the police. My daughter called the police. They came like three times, you know. Um, but he had me so scared I wouldn't say that I needed any help. And then finally my daughter talked to me. And so I did, you know, finally the fourth time they came out, I was like, I needed help. And I got out, got me and my mom out. But then my went back thinking that, oh, you know, >> I don't think that makes good. >> Um, well, the abuse that I've had since then >> has been not good. Um, and so now I know I' I've got to get us out and figure out I don't even know what happens, but I know that I can't no >> be there anymore. >> I got you. So, >> sorry. >> No, >> just trying to make sure that we don't get hit, >> right? >> The door don't slam on you. Okay. So, you said that he forced you back into the room. Was he not letting you leave the room? >> Correct. >> Okay. How was he preventing you from leaving the room? Did he lock the door? >> He locked the door and then >> Was he standing in front of it? >> Yep. And then if I tried to get up and go out, he would not let me. >> Okay. And you said he knocked his glass or your glasses off your face. Did he actually like smack you in the face? >> He Yeah, he got me. You know, cuz I don't I mean I know there was a mark here earlier, but I don't know. >> Light. I'm going to try to keep it out of your eyes. Is it like towards this side? >> It's like it was like right in here. >> Okay. But I mean, I put some stuff on it, but >> um And that all happened. Was it still last night or was it early this morning? >> That happened last night. >> Okay. >> Um, everything happened like up till around midnight 1 >> this morning when I finally was like able to get him to like believe that I was having some real issues. >> Mhm. >> Um, so >> how long have y'all been living together at that house? um since um it's a new house. So it was 21 >> 2021. >> Yeah. April of 21. >> Okay. Um all right. When he smacked her glasses off, was it a closed fist, open hand? Like you remember? >> It was so fast. But I'm going to say it had to been open hand because I feel like his like nail or something is what got me. >> Okay. Um do you remember if it was his left hand, right hand? I would say his right hand. >> His right hand. Okay. After he smacked your glasses off your face. Do you know what he said afterwards? >> Well, I was looking for my glasses. He's like, "I don't care where your glasses are. You're going to tell me the truth." No. >> And he's still talking about you texting the ex-boyfriend. >> Um, no. He's actually talking about um people that I dated when I was uh 17 years old and I am 58 years old. Um, has he been arrested before? >> Yes, he's got numerous >> What about for domestic violence battery? >> I do believe yes, but they are all in New Jersey, not in here. >> Okay. >> All right. So, I have a couple of questions. Okay. Um, did you tell him at any point like you were going to call 911 or anything like that? No, cuz because of the last situation that happened um when the cops were called four times, he's threatened that you know that I'm not to call the police. >> Like what do you mean threaten? Like >> it's like he that's why partly he took my phone so that I couldn't call. >> Okay. So he took your phone last night when all this happened to prevent you from calling. >> Yes. >> Okay. Um did he say that that's why he took your phone or >> Yeah. He said, "How how do you >> Well, all of a sudden my phone wasn't on the charger and I was like, what did you take my phone? He's like, yeah, so you can't call the cops. >> Can you add that in your statement for us? >> Um, I can. >> Okay, I'll get you I'll get you another piece of paper. Um, and then the other thing is I know you mentioned about this. Is it like a sword, katana? Like is it a butter knife? Like what? >> No, it's like it's about like this long. It's like almost um um something like like trick-or-treating, you know, like a costume, but he has it. >> Is it made of metal or is it like >> It's metal. It's metal. >> Um >> when he was sharpened. >> Yeah. When he was swinging it around, was that around the time where he was saying all this stuff or >> as he was telling me that he was going to kill me and kill my mom and kill himself. >> Okay. >> And chop me up in little pieces. Okay. I don't think I >> And he was Was he when he was swinging it around, was he like coming at you with it? >> Oh, yeah. He was It was being held, he chased me into the closet. >> Okay. With it. >> Did you put that in your statement? >> I don't I don't know. >> Okay. We're going to have to add that as well, too. All right, my dear. So, um, like I said, nobody's answering the door. Nobody's coming. Well, we saw one person come to the door and then uh open up that front left bedrooms uh blinds. Um is that y'all's bedroom or >> No, that's just the front room. >> And it's just a um I mean it's a bedroom, but it's not used and but it's right next to my mom's room. >> Okay. >> So, and she does have a habit of >> um going and looking out that window. >> Okay. >> Um >> so, I guess my next question to you is is do you give us consent to go in the house? So, we're trying to make sure that your mom is okay. >> Do you own the home? >> Yes. >> Okay. Can you give us consent to go in there? >> Okay. Um, >> which car where we going? My car. This car right here. >> Hold on. Hold on. Basically, >> yeah, we're going to tell you in one second. >> Easy on my leg, man. I don't even feel like pain anybody. >> Once he finishes that and this whole thing kind of settles down, I promise we're going to walk together. Hi 21. >> All right. Just turn around and lean up against the car for me. Okay. >> All right. So, I'm deputy. >> Yeah. >> All right. So, we got a couple of things we need to discuss, but before I talk to you, I'm going to read you your rights. Okay. All right. >> So, you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say may be used as evidence against you. You have the right to talk to an attorney and have him or her with you now or anytime during questioning. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed to represent you. If at any time you wish to stop talking or have an attorney present, all questioning will be stopped at your request. Do you understand these rights? With these rights in mind, do you want to talk to me? >> I want to know what this is about. >> Okay. So, basically, there was an altercation and incident last night. Okay. >> Do you have any idea what I'm talking about? >> No. >> Uh, who's your girlfriend? >> All right. You guys didn't get into an altercation last night? We had some words. That was it. >> What do you mean like words? >> Just had a disagreement. >> She said she was going to her daughter's house and she'd be back and that's it. >> Okay. >> Now you guys are here, man. That's all I know. >> All right. Um, so there's a lot more than what we were told that happened. Okay. So, did you at any point like make any threats to her, to her mom, to yourself? >> No. No. No. No. Okay. So, >> I'm just getting comfortable. >> Oh, I got you. So, >> at any point that Do you have a samurai sword or like a sepu sword or like any daggers or anything? >> I I there's I I don't nothing. I I don't know. I mean, there's I have I'm sure I have knives and stuff like that, but >> You don't have a knife about this long? >> I I may have a couple of them. I don't know. >> Are they in the bedroom? You sure? >> No. >> Where are they at? just uh I don't know. >> I don't know. They're in the house somewhere. >> Okay. >> Probably make you um >> It could be in the garage. >> Could be in the garage. >> There could be. Yeah, I think there's one in I don't know. They're in there somewhere. I know. You asked me if I had a samurai. No, I don't have any samurai sword. >> But do you have a knife about this long? >> There's a knife in there that long. It's not mine. >> Whose is it? >> It's a her boyfriend her ex-husband's I guess. I don't know. >> Okay. It's not yours. I don't know whose it is. >> I mean, I'm I'm asking if it's yours. >> I don't have I said no. >> Okay. >> How many times I gotta say no, man. >> Well, you've told me I don't know three times. >> Okay. All right. Well, I'm not going to argue with you. I'm a lawyer. >> You want a lawyer? Okay. All right. We're going to sit down in here. Okay, sir. >> All right. So, you're being placed under arrest for a couple of different things. Okay. All right. One is going to be false imprisonment. >> All right. >> False imprisonment. >> Do you understand what that is? >> No. >> Okay. Uh, it's because you basically took somebody into a room, locked the door, and told them that they couldn't leave. >> I did not do that. >> Okay. >> I didn't do that. >> So, false imprisonment. We have uh aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. We have battery. And then we have witness tampering. >> All right. >> Witness tampering. What the hell's that? >> Witness tampering is cuz you took her phone away from her. >> I didn't take no phone. Her phone said right in there where she left it. >> Okay. Well, I'm just letting you know why you're under arrest. Okay. That's that's >> Yeah. I'm going to buff you answer. >> Yeah. >> All right. So, you are going to go down to the jail. I'm going to ask you this question like I asked everybody else. Okay. Do you have anything on you or inside of you? No. >> All right. They're going to put you in a body scan. If they find anything, it's going to be another charge. It's going to be introduction. >> I don't have any. >> I'm I'm giving you an opportunity. That's it. >> I don't I don't >> Okay. I appreciate it, sir. All right. Just sit tight for me. This is >> Hey. Hey. Can you open the door for a sec? I can't Can I talk to you for a second? Okay. Hey, help. Help. I'm having I'm having a seizure. Can you Can you help me? >> Oh, man. Come on. Help me, man. Come on, buddy. Help me, please. I'm having I'm having a seizure, man. >> You want to sit down or do you want to stand up? >> Okay. Does that mean he's taking >> Have you taken your meds this morning, Rich? >> No. >> No. Hey, I'm going to put this underneath your head. Okay. >> Can I use your arm, sir? Get a blood pressure. >> How you feeling right now? >> What's your name? >> Uh, what's your name? >> What's your full name? >> Can you keep your hand still for me to get this blood pressure? I'm I'm not doing anything. >> Is that it? >> Whatever Whatever medication she gives me, I take. >> Okay. >> I I don't remember. I My memory >> I don't have a very good memory. >> Turn it off. >> No, don't turn it off. >> Think you have a seizure, bud? We're going to take you in the ambulance to the hospital. Is that all right? >> Okay. >> What? I I so I went through and I saw and he did leave so like at um um at like 6:43 and came back at 6:58 and that's about when I heard that motorcycle. >> I got you. >> So he knew and then I saw him on the blink that he it was him that um like at 7:25 so it was him that probably looked out the window. >> Okay. All right. >> I don't know that you care but thank you. Um, we'll be in touch or somebody from the court will be in touch with you. Okay. >> All right. >> The man was arrested and charged with false imprisonment, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and domestic [music] battery.
