On February 2nd, 2025, a disturbing 911 call came from a young boy in Palm Coast, Florida. He told dispatchers he was being abused and feared for his sister's safety. What began as an argument over cleaning his room quickly escalated into a violent confrontation that ended with his mother in handcuff. >> Does he have any disabilities or anything like that? >> Physical. >> What was that? >> Physical? No. >> Okay. No. No. Educational disabilities, learning disabilities. >> Yes. >> Okay. No autism. No. >> No. >> Okay. ADHD? >> No. >> Okay. >> Oh. >> Is it locked? >> I Yes. >> Is it Is the car registered to you? >> Yes. >> Okay. And the firefighters, they're also medically trained. >> So, um, >> Mr. um located the last fire source he had the dog. >> He turned the stove on. >> Oh, really? Okay. So, I just want to confirm your story again. So, upstairs playing video games, correct? And you needed him to do chores, throw away rappers that he brought upstairs then when he wasn't supposed to. Correct. >> Yes. >> So, you went upstairs, brought a trash can up to him, and just left it there originally. Yeah. >> for him to clean up. You left, took a couple minutes, you went back up. He still didn't do it, right? >> Okay. So, then you picked up the trash can and hit him on top of the head with it. >> Just >> Okay. And then after that, what did you just put the trash can back down or >> put it out by him? >> You what? >> Put it down right by him. >> Okay. Any point, did you like take the chair out from under him or anything to get him out moving? and pull his chair out >> and pull his chair out. >> Yeah. >> Like from underneath him. >> So like he fell to the ground. >> He didn't stand up. So he refused to support himself. >> Okay. So you're kind of just like shoveling him out of the chair to get him to stand up. >> Okay. All right. And then after that, you just left the room >> and I went back It was one side of the house to the other. >> Okay. Were you guys yelling this entire time at each other? >> I was yelling at him. He was screaming. >> Okay. >> I telling him to clean up. >> Pick up the rappers. >> How old is your oldest son here? >> Um he's 19. >> He's 19. Do Do you have a husband? >> Yes. He's in Greece. >> Oh, he's in Greece for work or something? >> Actually, he's on vacation. Oh, okay. Okay, I got you. All right. So, let me talk to >> medical personnel evaluated the boy at the scene and at his request took him to the hospital for further care. During his interview with police, he said, "Whenever I don't do what my mother wants, she makes me take a beating right away." He reported being punched several times in the head and chest. His sister confirmed much of his story, [music] saying that when she tried to intervene, their mother turned on her and began yelling in her face. Officers later contacted Christine Elizabeth Garrett's husband, the children's father, [music] to inform him about the incident >> happened and then my wife, I guess I wasn't there, and then grabbed the phone. I don't know how this will happen, went downstairs, called 911 or something like this. The altercation was with the boy over a video game throughout the night. >> Okay. So, we we weren't aware of that. We did get the 911 call from your son. And what he's telling us is, you know, and your wife said, your wife said that it might be a little off here and getting a third party deputy car that, you know, he was being disrespectful, wouldn't clean his room, so she smacked him, which in the state of Florida, smacking your child is legal. >> I don't think >> it's legal. >> Um, she said she did that. the alter. The alter. >> Can you let me can but can you let me finish sir and I'll tell you why with the hospital and why we're here. >> So your wife even admitted that he was sitting in the chair and he refused to get up. So she pulled the chair off from under him and he fell to the ground. Now there's another statement from another child that your wife hit him with a garbage can. Your other daughter said she observed that. So we're still trying to sort this out. We have so many different stories, but this whole new altercation with this other child is a totally different story that we have to go inside and investigate right now. So, what we're trying to get at the altercation >> Yeah. What we're getting at is >> with the boy. >> He He's afraid to go home now. The emergency room is calling department children and families and we're trying to sort all this out. We're trying to get other family members down here to assist us with the other kids. Is there somebody else you can call that one can come to the hospital or one can go to the home? >> Well, I have a 19-year-old son at home. >> He has no driver's license, though. That's our problem. School is tomorrow. >> I have a I have a I have a mother who lives in Orman 15 20 minutes away. Could you give her a call >> and see if she wants to come up here to the hospital with us and assist us? >> Absolutely. >> We're at Absolutely. >> We're at Advent North, >> the new Parkway. >> Yeah, the new one. If they she just wants to go to the I guess walk in the ER and just say that the deputies told her to meet us here, they'll call us and we'll come speak to her. >> Yeah, fine. Fine. I'll have her come over. No, no problem. I'll have her call right now. I know she's at home. I'll have her come to Abush Parkway. >> Yeah. >> And you can even This is my work phone. You give her the >> Yes, sir. That's what came across the call ID. Yes. >> Should she call you now or call you when she arrives at Palm Coast Parkway? >> Um, when she gets to the hospital, that way I can tell staff to let her in the back. >> I'll have her I'll have her drive out at Palm Coast Parkway and then I'll have her. >> Do you know your son? Did he sleep over someone's house last night? Or that was just this morning. You know the address where he was at? >> No, no, no. He slept he was there all day, all night. >> Okay. This morning. >> Do you know the address? I know it's in the plantation. >> I'll I'll ask we'll ask we'll get it from your wife. >> Yeah. And and the the whole issue was there was a physical altercation between him and his boy. That's why he ran away this morning. >> Gotcha. >> And went to the guard station because he was hurt. And he reported to the guard that he was hurt. And that's why the guard called my wife. So, >> okay. We'll we'll sort it out and I'll either I'll call you back or get someone to call you back. Thank you for your uh your appreciation. All right. Bye. >> Thank you. >> There. So, um, just real quick, your other son, he How old is he? >> 19. >> 19. And your daughter? >> She's 11. >> 11. Okay. [music] And there's no other friends or family that stay here? It's just you, your three children, and your husband. >> Yeah. >> And a dog. >> And a dog. Okay. Let me get your husband's name. Yeah, I robbed the cradle. >> What was that? >> I robbed the cradle. >> Rock the cradle. >> I robbed the cradle. >> What does that mean? >> My husband's younger than me. >> Oh, okay. So, we're just finishing up our investigation. Whenever we're completed, then you'll be good to go meet your son at the hospital. Okay. >> Yeah. He's in Greece. >> Your husband? I got you. He's in Greece. >> Is it work trip or >> No, >> vacation. >> Vacation. >> Like all you guys? >> Well, the two kids are in school. >> Okay. >> The two little ones are in school. >> Mhm. >> And someone has to be with them. >> Okay. I don't think you want a 19year-old in charge of two 11year-old >> for >> I mean I don't know how your 19year-old is but I mean >> for 26 days >> that's a long time grocery runs and all that >> he doesn't have a license. >> Oh no he doesn't want one or is it just what's the reason? >> He just never wanted one. Yeah, >> I guess usually you think a bunch of 18, 19 year olds, they'd love to get their license and uh >> No, no. When I was 16. >> Mhm. >> I wanted those keys in a way that >> Yeah, I'm pretty sure every pretty much every kid does soon as you turn 16. >> There's a lot of kids [music] nowadays that >> No, no, no. It's cuz all those kids have those uh electric bikes now. You know those things can go like 50 miles per hour anyways. You don't need a license. >> They worry me. >> Oh, the electric bikes. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. What do you do [music] for work? >> Primary care doctor. >> Oh, okay. You and your husband? >> Both of us. >> Okay. >> That's why I knew that they didn't do >> the hospital. Yeah. >> At the hospital. >> I got you. >> Not that they can't do a CAT scan or, >> you know. Yeah. They're not specialized to >> No, they don't even staff pediatricians. >> Oh, really? Okay. >> And they don't deliver babies >> unless, >> you know, obviously >> emergency. >> Someone rolls up. >> Yeah. >> In active labor. And >> I gotcha. Where where you uh where's your office at? >> Palm Co Le. You know where the taco shop is? >> Yep. >> Behind that. >> Okay. in a little plaza back there. >> Mhm. >> Okay. Usually you you have your own practice. >> Okay. You and your husband work for the same one. >> Yeah, we work together. >> Okay. >> That's the other reason why I can't go. >> You're working taking care of the >> One of us has to be here. >> Yeah. To run the >> to run the office. >> Yeah. Okay. You guys have a lot of employees and all that. I think there's 11 of them now. >> Oh, wow. You're growing. I got you. >> It's a business. >> All right. Yeah. Um, whenever we're finished here, you can go check out with your kid. If he needs to further medical attention, you can [music] transfer him to a hospital that, you know, specializes in it. >> Um, I'm sure he doesn't. Yeah, that's man. I mean, if somebody says they want to go to the hospital, you know, we have to. >> But if he can walk, he can run from the second floor all the way down. >> Mhm. I don't know. I don't know. Like, I wasn't here for the argument. It could have been the adrenaline that he's feeling right now. >> Yeah. >> Then the adrenaline dump. He said he was feeling dizzy and all that. Usually, as soon as that adrenaline, you know, washes away, man, you feel like you're about to pass out. Your legs are going to give out. But >> if you're running from here all the way down to up >> the second floor all the way down the stairs to that. >> Mhm. >> I'm guessing that all four extremities are working. >> Yeah. It's probably just the adrenaline pumping through them at that time. >> 77. >> Um I just got to go upstairs and get some pictures of where you guys got into this argument. >> Can you show us? >> Yeah. And then um >> wrappers are gone. >> You put them in the trash can. >> Oh, you did. >> Okay. >> Oh, we're going through this way. >> Hello. >> Hey, Christine. You want to come out talk to us real quick outside? You don't have a wallet in here in your pocket. >> You don't like I'm saying you don't have a purse or nothing. >> Okay. It's more rare. We don't talk. So, can you turn around back? We're going to be placing you under arrest right now for child abuse. Okay. your um your husband's parents are on the way up here to take your son and your daughter right now. We spoke to your husband on the phone. We let him know what was going on >> so he's aware of what's going on. Let me just get right here. This young lady's going to search you. Make sure you don't have anything in your pockets that's going to stick or hurt her. Do you? >> No. >> That's fine. >> I'm still have to do this. Go ahead, >> Charlie. 212 Flagler. >> Thank you. >> Whiskey box shop. >> What began as a household argument turned into a criminal case that drew attention to the fine line between discipline and abuse.
