car >> in Oklahoma. That is state trooper Jesse Gregory. >> Trooper Gregory did a barrel roll and got back up on his feet after the car he pulled over was hit by an SUV. >> Here it is in slow motion. Miraculously, Trooper Gregory survived, as did the driver of the white vehicle that got hit and the driver of the black SUV. The highway department said they were all treated and released. This incident on Thursday, January 18th, happened on Interstate 40, just west of Oklahoma City. Trooper Gregory stopped the white SUV for a traffic infraction. After several minutes of running the tags and license, Gregory approached the driver and said he was suspended, but could still drive off. >> So, here's your car. You're suspended. Okay. Not making you to jail. Let drive off. State police say it's not clear if the driver of the black SUV was speeding. Either way, trooper Gregory radioed dispatch. >> 362 city by car. Start EMS. >> Trooper Gregory told local reporters. Watching the video, I don't even remember, says the trooper bear rolling to my feet. Hopefully, this is the scare of my career. Gregory told News9. The officer is now ready to go back to work. "I'm ready to come back," said Gregory, showing an injury to his arm and just kind of worked through it because I know it's going to take a little bit mentally to come back. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said it posted this police dash camera video to Facebook as a graphic reminder the consequences of distracted or impaired driving and the importance of the slow down, move over law. We are in the middle of a distracted driving emphasis, they said. Oklahoma law makes texting while driving illegal. The law passed in 2015 after another trooper was struck and killed while investigating a highway incident. Handheld devices and the lure of social media have made it easier and more tempting than ever for drivers to try and multitask while behind the wheel. However, that's also led to an increase across the United States in distracted driving incidents. And state troopers have been struck repeatedly. In Oklahoma, for example, just months before trooper Gregory got hit and did his barrel roll, another trooper, Russell Calicoat, was parked alongside a highway and got sideswiped. 244 Yale westbound 63. arrest over med. >> Trooper Calico was not seriously injured. The driver was not hurt either. Still, you don't have to search very hard to find incidents that are deadly. And police will tell you that distracted drivers, people who are out of control or others who are driving while impaired are traffic patrol officers greatest fears. Occasionally, as we've documented on this channel, police will hear or see something unusual and have a moment maybe to get out of the way. on the Fairfax County Parkway in Virginia. It was just before noon when that police officer writing a ticket heard tires squealing 911 Bravo. Ser rescue service units accident right here at County Parkway after Bradock. My cruiser was hit. Driver was hit. I'm trying to check on injuries. Here it is in slow motion. According to Fairfax County Police, the driver of that outofc control BMW 3 was a teenager going more than 120 mph. Police say there were three teenagers in the vehicle. That patrol officer in Virginia was not seriously hurt, but one can appreciate the mental health challenges from such a close call. We've done a lot of videos on this channel on bad cops and state troopers who do not know the law. And the fact is, there are plenty of officers who should not be in law enforcement. Too many cops seem to care more about the power, badge, and gun than they care about actually helping people. But there are a lot of decent law officers as well. And they don't deserve to be hit by a driver who's not paying attention. So, as a reminder, fellow citizens, when you are behind the wheel, put the phone down and ignore the text messaging and social media. If you can't wait, at least pull over to a rest area or exit. All of us on the roads need to be focused, and it's never a good look to cause an accident as unnecessary as this. >> By the way, House Republican Marjorie Taylor Green of Georgia recently appeared intoxicated while ranting on television. I mean, these political consultants, they should go to jail for continuing this campaign. I mean, it is so dishonest. I can't even believe it. Check out that video at the link below. It generated a lot of comments, including this one from Frankie, a Latino 547 who wrote, "To be fair, if I was at a Trump function, I'd be drunk at the very least." I appreciate the sentiment, but even if you need to drown your sorrows over Trump or anything else, don't get behind the wheel. I'll be curious to see the comments about distracted and impaired driving. I'm David Schustster. Thanks for joining us.
