This is the moment that mayhem erupts in Daytona Beach, Florida. Thousands of spring breakers are seen sprinting across the sand during a massive unpermitted beach takeover event. >> It's Friday in the hood, [ __ ] >> But here's the twist. Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood confirms the stampede was deliberately set off by people crushing water bottles in order to trigger a stampede. >> Let's all go and invade Daytona. And there ain't a whole whole lot we can do other than what we did. So, what we did from the Sheriff's Office, for example, is from the Main Street Pier to Seabreeze Boulevard, we had over 50 deputies inside of that crowd. We made 133 total arrests. >> Well, I heard you were running. What's what's going on? Did we run for no reason? >> Yeah. >> Okay, well, let's >> We arrested people from Alabama, from Georgia, from North Carolina, from South Carolina, from Florida. You name it, it everybody was here. >> But you have a lot of stuff with you on the beach. Can you walk over here with me, all right? It's going to be a $50 ticket, and I'm going to have you on your way. Don't make it worse than it is. Cool? Come on. >> We also came in contact with seven folks who were here illegally, who we took into custody, and ICE has lodged detainers uh against them. >> You got your stuff? >> Not right now. >> You guys can hang out over there. >> Yeah, goodbye, cub. >> You guys need to stay back 25 ft. In the state of Florida, there's a thing called the Halo Act. So, whenever we're conducting our business, you have to stay back 25 ft, otherwise you can go to jail, too. >> That's what I mean. >> I don't need to worry about his buddies walking up behind me while I'm dealing with him is what the whole point of it is. >> Because what they were doing was crushing a water bottle to stampede the crowd. >> Officials reported over 133 total arrests this past weekend across Volusia County as agencies fought to restore order. Now, the Sheriff is going after the organizers. He's searching for the promoters to hand them a massive $100,000 invoice for police resources and damages caused to the city. >> A rough idea what that price tag was at all these guys. >> Oh God, it's hundreds it's hundreds hundreds of thousands of dollars. We are coming after you. We're going to sue you civilly and we're coming after every asset that you have. This goes to every promoter. You promote a truck event, you promote a takeover event, we are coming after you financially. >> What's your take on these beach takeovers? Let us know in the comments below.
