Um, Robert and his girlfriend were transported to a local area hospital for their injuries. While Robert and his girlfriend were treated for their injuries and later released, tragically, despite the life-saving efforts of police and emergency responders on scene, the victim, 83-year-old Trudy Slanger, was pronounced deceased at the scene. When our mother left for church that day, she was happy, healthy, and looking forward to the week ahead. On her way home, just 2 minutes from her house, her tiny body, barely 120 lb, was destroyed upon impact. You're under the trauma of losing her life this so suddenly, so violently, so senselessly is something her family will carry the rest of her life. Her absence has changed every part of who we are. It was a really unfortunate thing that happened and I take responsibility for it as well. I was in the vehicle and we made a horrible decision and it cost somebody their life. The suspect, 37-year-old Robert Rowland, has an extensive criminal record dating back to the year 2000 where he was alleged to have brought a weapon on school grounds among many more charges leading up to this tragic situation. In this case, Robert Rowland initially faced charges of first-degree murder, vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, taking a motor vehicle without permission, attempting to elude, hit-and-run, fourth-degree assault, and fourth-degree assault domestic violence. However, preceding his latest court hearing on December 2nd, 2025, the court dropped every charge except for first-degree [music] murder, which was later reduced to second-degree murder and vehicular assault. At the time of his arrest, Rowland had outstanding warrants for unlawful possession of a firearm and first-degree assault. He was sentenced to 27 years in prison and 36 months of community custody upon release. For the crime of murder in the second degree, you were sentenced to 324 months in prison. Robert will be released in the year 2053 when he will be 64 years old.
