On November 8th, 2021, the Valencia County Sheriff's Office receives a frantic call from 30-year-old Karilyn Milton, who expresses something that immediately sets off alarm bells among the officers. 911, what's your emergency? I don't know what's wrong with me. I'm going to kill myself. I don't know. I have a newborn What's going on? I just killed him. I'm not breathing. Sensing her disturbing behavior, officers quickly race to her home in El Cerro Mission, New Mexico, fearing the situation could spiral to life-threatening at any moment. Do you want to come over here? I can get you help. Just come with me. No weapons on you? No. >> No. That cigarette helping you out? Is it keeping you calm? No, I don't even got a lighter. You don't got a lighter? All right. I can try and get you one. You want to come with me? What's going on today? Why do you want to hurt you hurt yourself? What's bothering you? I don't know what's wrong with What do you mean, what's wrong with you? I'm here to help you. 510 such a one. It's isn't me. What isn't you, ma'am? I'm not like this. I don't feel like this. Feel how? Have to advise with a 41 player for medical. Don't feel like hell, ma'am. Just mad and angry. Okay. And then I got this gun. So I can hear his other one crying. Now the other ONE STARTS CRYING. SO THE KIDS just keep crying? What's your name? Kiara. Kiara? Oh god, then this noisy [ __ ] [ __ ] over here in her window. >> Her? Her. Okay. Do you want to go up to the hospital? I don't know what I want to do. I just need help. You just need help? Oh god. So the ambulance is going to come and they're going to help you out, okay? Can you walk that way with me? Yeah? Come on, let's go. His sister in the window watching us. Oh god, this is embarrassing. Do you feel like hurting the kids? I mean, I get it. If you do, parenting is a lot. Frustrated. >> Uh-huh. Like when one stops crying, the other one starts crying. It's like you can't catch a break with the kids. Yeah, and then and top of that I got anxiety. Like I can't breathe. Okay. Do you feel like hurting yourself? All the time, but Do you feel like that right now? Do you feel like that right now? Hi guys. So this is Kiara. She's telling me right now she has anxiety. She's just going through a lot of stress. Telling me she can't catch a break. When one kid stops crying, the next kid starts crying. >> Yeah. So she just wants some help. Well, go ahead and talk with these guys. They're going to be able to help you out with everything, okay? You just need to talk with them. She lives here with her partner, Sant Padilla, and two young sons. As she expresses her disturbing thoughts, concern only deepens surrounding her three-week-old baby, Waylon Padilla, and a four-year-old toddler. The officers don't know yet, but within a few days, they'll be confronted with a nightmare at the same location. At the moment, as Keria continues, her unsettling demeanor grows more intense. I don't know if I'm going to be able to see what's going on, babe. I don't know. We don't know. I just know I love those guys, and I don't want to hurt them, but they're frustrating the [ __ ] out of me. Right. No, I know. Um real quick, so the the dad's out of town? He's on his way. I can't My phone's dead. But he's on his way right now. From where? He was going to Crow stand. He's about an hour and a half away, but he's on his way back. He's probably about well, slow, blonde, something like that. Okay. Do you have any other family um in the area? No. And my whole family >> Local? I'm work, of course. Okay. So, here's one kiddo that's like a month old. Yeah. Yeah. That's the type of one that Yeah, we were we we heard that one. Oh, did you? >> Yeah. Yeah. Here? Yeah. Right here in the house. But I just want to make sure everything's >> I just want to make sure that everything's good with that little guy. So, you have history on her? I've met her once before just to look at the kiddo. Yeah, the 4-year-old, I remember the 4-year-old being here. >> Have you ever met the father? No. No? He wasn't here for that? Um fire stayed here with the kiddo while we took her to the hospital, and then I guess the dad came over to take a look at the kiddo. So, I think he was a lot closer than than where he was before. Oh, he was like I think he was out of town or something. Yeah. Um Yeah, I want to take a look at the kid. I'm just kind of Did she have any history of Oh, I I don't know. Like at the time, nothing mentioned? Nothing uh nothing I thought. I mean, I I didn't really delve too much into that, but Yeah. Okay. Although there's no immediate indication the children have been harmed, officers can't afford to take that on face value. With pounding hearts, they rush inside, determined to make sure their worst fear hasn't already come true. Hi. Hi. How are you, buddy? I got a balloon. You got a balloon? What's your name? Who is that? Okay. Hey, baby. How are you doing? Oh my goodness. Here, little one. Oh my goodness, you are cute. What's your brother's name? What's his name? Nance? Hans? What's your name? Okay, what's his name? Okay. You can sit down on the bed. You got any other brothers? You You got any other ones? Hi, little guy. He's cute. He looks like you. Yeah. >> [crying] >> You're fine, baby boy. You're fine. How you doing, buddy? You doing all right? Anything bothering you? You feel okay? Okay. You feel safe? You feel all right here? Good. Okay. Been eating okay? Have you been eating? >> [crying] >> Are you hungry? Okay. After confirming the children are safe, officers turn their attention back to Keria. Her frustration remains raw, but her behavior shifts with every passing second. And just then, Keria does something completely contradicting her earlier behavior that seemed impossible just a few moments ago. You guys want to see my baby? Okay, can I take a look at the the kiddo? Make sure he's doing okay. Yeah, he's in the back back room. With her sudden shifts in behavior, it seems like she has been battling her own mind and needs immediate help. So, they quickly shift their focus to Keria and her children's well-being. So, based on what's been said and and what's going on so far that we're aware of um we think it would be best if you go to the hospital to talk to somebody. Cuz have you ever heard of postpartum depression? Cuz that could be one thing that going through and it's happened before in the past where mothers have hurt their kids and got to the point where they kill them. I don't want you to ever do that. I'm sure you don't want to. So right, and that's your goal, that's our goal. Nobody wants the kids to be hurt. So so we think it's best if you go to the hospital. You guys don't have other things to do today? This is what we do. So Just let them bug on the side of you. I mean, I got a lot to say and everything, but Right, you got a lot to say and the doctors are the people to say it to. I'm waiting for my husband to get here to kiss my child. We're we're going to take care of that. We'll take care of all that. Well, I'm going to waste the time of your time cuz I'm not going nowhere unless my husband's here. Well, see, but that's the thing. You have to go. That's what That's what we're telling you. I'm going to go, but I'm not going to go nowhere unless you're my husband, too. What are you looking for? I want my lighter for my cigarette so I could smoke. I'm sorry. I'm not trying to freaking offend you guys. >> not offending us. We just wanted you to get help, but the thing is is we can't sit here all day with you. You have kids. We're going to take care of your kids. So, your only options are you either go with the ambulance or we're taking you. Either way, you're going. There's no >> Okay, I'll go with you guys. So, can I finish my cigarette or not? Out outside, yes. She finally agrees to go to the hospital, but her demands raise troubling questions, revealing that her priorities may lie elsewhere than with her children. You want to go in the ambulance or with us? Whatever's more convenient for you guys. I don't give a Just please give me a lighter. We can we'll do whatever is most helpful for you. I can get I can see if I can grab you a lighter and you smoke a little something. All right, come on. I got a lighter in my car. Oh, I'm getting pretty pissed off. Let's go get a lighter. Yeah, we can we can smoke a little bit something before we What? They transport her to the hospital while her children remain under their father's care. Already diagnosed with bipolar disorder and PTSD, she is at high risk. Despite this, she's discharged after just 2 days. Back home, her husband initially supervises her, but then returns to work. And on the same day, on November 15th, she calls the police again, leading to a brutal and sinister discovery, leaving them questioning the sanity of a mother. Go ahead, ma'am. Who is Who is he? He's my baby. He's 4 months He's 4 WEEKS OLD. OKAY. JUST TAKE A DEEP BREATH, MA'AM. OH my god. Oh my god. Can you Can you tell me how to breathe? Take Inhale 4 seconds. Count four. There's blood all over the kid's face, dude. Yeah, he's He's gone. The discovery of a dead infant leaves the officer shaken and devastated. But the search isn't over yet. They still need to find the other child. With fear mounting, officers search desperately, clinging to the faint hope that they are not already too late. Hey, hey, I found him. He's here. He's here. Hey buddy. Hey man. Yeah. Hey buddy. >> [laughter] >> All right. Hey Martin. It's all right, buddy. I know, buddy. I know. I know you have kids, dude. Hey. All right. You need a break, bro? So we go for another ride. Let's get on some pants. It's kind of cold in here, buddy. It comes as a slight relief that the toddler is unharmed. And with no doubt that Keria is behind this gut-wrenching murder, officers take immediate action. But her erratic behavior continues. 10-4. Can you go and stand up for me, ma'am? All right. Can you put your phone in your pocket? I'm in trouble. Uh not I don't know right now. I'm just going to place you in the handcuffs real quick. It looks like he scratched his face.
