hello i'm officer eva sermano with the chandler police department the information audio video and pictures you're about to see are intended to provide details as we currently understand them of an officer involved shooting that occurred on the morning of september 17 2021 in the 3500 block of west chandler boulevard the video may contain strong language as well as graphic video which could be disturbing to some audiences viewer discretion is advised this incident started at 6 50 a.m when an employee of the hotel called police to report a possible domestic disturbance according to the employee a guest reported to the hotel staff that an unknown female asked if she could hide in his room subsequently another male pulled the female into another hotel room i have a guest that reports to me that one woman asked him to hide into his room here is body-worn camera footage from one officer being informed by a guest of the male running towards the parking lot officers learned of a truck parked in the southwest parking lot was associated with the parties involved the body-worn camera begins as the first officer locates the truck in the parking lot so that's what it seemed like here is a still frame from body worn camera footage showing the suspect looking out from the truck bed with a gun in his right hand as officers were giving orders to the suspect he began shooting at them from inside the bed of the truck here is body worn camera footage from the second involved officer put your hands up one atom six after the shooting the suspect remained in possession of the gun he was given orders by the police and eventually disarmed himself throwing the gun onto the ground don't do it dude don't do it do not do it here is a photograph of the suspect's gun used in the shooting the suspect identified as 43 year old brandon sean aldacoa was transported to the hospital in critical condition both officers involved in the shooting are assigned to the desert breeze precinct the first officer has been with the department for 24 years the second officer has been with the department for six years this incident is subject of both an internal and criminal investigation which will be reviewed by the maricopa county attorney's office upon completion this investigation will be reviewed by an external citizens use of force panel comprised of community members as a standard practice and all use of force incidents conclusions about whether the officer's actions are consistent with case law department policy and best practices in policing will not be made until all facts are known and the investigation is complete this video was intended to inform and educate the public about the critical incident in our community
