i'm assistant chief belinda of the houston police department's criminal investigations command this critical incident briefing is intended to provide you with information about an officer-involved shooting that occurred in houston on september 5th 2021. you're about to see video footage that is related to the case hpd conducts thorough investigations into officer-involved shootings these typically require investigators to interview multiple witnesses view numerous hours of video footage and analyze a significant amount of forensic evidence it is important to note that we are in the very early stages of the investigation and we continue to process additional evidence as it is collected analyzed and reviewed a word of caution the videos you're about to see can be graphic and may be difficult to watch in addition these videos may contain strong language viewer discretion is advised at about 8 56 pm the houston police department received several calls regarding a man assaulting a woman in the 1300 block of west 20th street officer rios assigned a central patrol arrived first on the scene he was told by witnesses that a man later identified as tomas rodriguez was beating a woman across the street and had a gun officer rios found mr rodriguez walking towards the woman who was lying on the ground officer rios told mr rodriguez to come here mr rodriguez ran towards the woman stumbled then pointed a gun at officer rios officer rios discharged his duty weapon at the suspect mr rodriguez attempted to run away but was quickly apprehended by officer rios and other officers arriving on the scene neither officer rios nor mr rodriguez were injured the female victim was transported to the hospital by ambulance for her injuries a gun was recovered along the path where mr rodriguez ran from the officer [Music] where's [Music] he's gonna have a weapon can i get another unit [Applause] [Music] at the moonshine deck parking lot across the street on the other side [Applause] going in the blast hey come here he's running he's running hey so hey don't [ __ ] move get down don't move don't wait it's just fine that's fine he's running west on where he's from here hey stop running stop running hey stop running stop running hey get down get down don't [ __ ] move don't move don't move he dropped it somewhere over there and he dropped the gun somewhere over there by the moonshine deck particularly [Music] [Applause] show i located the weapon already anybody got some gloves in the bag hey hey don't [ __ ] move get down don't move i located the weapon already anybody got some gloves on the back you
