Hey, it's a lieutenant colonel. I had her doing 73 down there and then in the 40 I had her doing 63. >> Open the door and pull you out of the car and instead of just cooperating and getting a traffic violation, you're going to spend the night in jail. THAT'S WHY YOU CITIZEN >> AND if there is injury and scarring to my eye, you're going to be and you're going to lose your job. On February 25th, 2025, Santa Rosa County deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a speeding SUV driving erratically through a construction zone near Tiger Point Park, Florida. Behind the wheel was 59-year-old Lieutenant Colonel Michelle Bonjovi, who refused to provide her license and ignored orders to exit the vehicle as deputies were forced to break her window to remove her. And what started as a routine traffic stop exploded into a tense, chaotic standoff. Good afternoon. >> Hey, Colonel. You want to roll your window down? >> No. >> Why not? >> Why are you detaining me? >> I'm not detaining you, Colonel. I'm stopping you for doing 63 mph in a 40 mph zone. I need your driver's license, your insurance, and your registration. >> Do you have proof of the speed? >> Yes, I do. It's on my radar, ma'am. >> May I see it? >> No, you may not. Is there a reason why you sat at that green light for several seconds just sitting there the green light? >> Um, no, not really. >> Didn't want to make your turn with a green arrow. You didn't want to make your turn. >> Is there something wrong about >> sitting at a green light with a turn signal giving you the authority to to pass through the intersection? Yeah. Most people when they get a green light, they drive. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Hey, it's a lieutenant colonel. I had her doing 73 down there and then in the 40 I had her doing 63. She sat at the green turn signal and she's refusing to roll her window down or provide any documentation. And I I figured why not get you here before I rip her out of a car. >> Yes. >> Are you going to roll your window down all the way? >> No. Can you hear me? >> Can't problem. >> I don't know. Your officer stopped me and he also see radar. >> He stopped for Well, if you want to see the radar, you have to step out of the vehicle so you can see it. It's not a handheld device. I don't have to step out. >> You do by Florida law. So, I'm not going to argue with you. What's going to happen is you're either going to roll the window down and cooperate from here on out. >> What are you detaining? >> Or right now you're impeding an investigation. >> I'm investigating for what? >> For a traffic violation. >> What was the traffic violation? >> I already explained to you, ma'am. You're doing 63 and a 40 mph construction zone. >> I'm just going to tell you what's going to happen. So, either you cooperate from here on out or we're going to break the window and pull you out of the vehicle and you're going to go to jail. It's that simple. >> To break my window, vandalize the car. >> Yes. And you're going to go and you're going to go to jail. So, that's why I'm ordering you right now. You either cooperate and step out of the vehicle right now or they're going to break your window, unlock your door, open the door, and pull you out of the car. And instead of just cooperating and getting a traffic violation, you're going to spend the night in jail. So, are you prepared to spend the night in jail? Okay. Break the window and TAKE HER OUT. HEY, THAT LAST >> HEY, cut my face and he took my glasses. >> Can we have EMS? Come check our eyes out. >> Yep. >> You need TO SEND AN AMBULANCE. >> I just requested it. >> Glasses in my eye. >> Yep. Just sit you up. sit on your butt. Lift her up when I'm going to drive her over to the side of her car. We don't want her on the glass, though. Let's just move her over to >> Watch my glasses, sir. >> You going to stay here and be nice, >> sir? My glasses. And you They're right behind you. >> Okay. There's glass. my eye. >> We've got an ambulance coming >> and if there is injury and scarring to my eye, >> you're going to be sued, sir, and you're going to lose your job. >> It's okay. Ma'am, are you under the influence of anything? >> No, sir. I am not. >> Is there a specific reason why Lieutenant Colonel United States Air Force is acting in such a manner? >> Because your actions are unconstitutional. >> Yeah, unfortunately that's incorrect. It is not correct. >> That's what I just said. As I told you, ma'am, EMS is in route and they will evaluate and check you out. >> I do not carry saline. Okay. >> So, is the breaking of the vehicle glass a form of uh intimidation? >> Absolutely not. It's how we got you out of the vehicle. >> Do any of you have an emergency kit for sailing? No, we don't carry sailing bags. We don't carry lactated ringers. I have any of that for you. Got tourniquets. Probably got an Israeli bandage back there if you need that. Might even find a Bob the Builder band-aid. You're doing a vehicle inventory. >> Yeah, she has a whole bunch of cash right here. >> Whole bunch of what? >> 50s, 20s. >> Okay. >> She's got receipts on them. I'll >> just go ask her. I don't want to touch bag. Make sure there's none of that in there that you want before it gets towed. >> Are you a part of a booster club or >> No, sir. >> I want to make sure this goes with you so you don't lose any of it. Okay. Just Is this all there was that was in there? This is a lot. Most people don't roll around with this kind of cash. >> Sorry. I can't even see what you're doing. >> You're Okay. I've got several stacks of money. Okay. We're inventorying your vehicle. Are you like a booster club president or >> No, sir. That's my cash. >> Okay. All right. We're gonna make sure this goes with you. Okay. And it'll be accounted for and the jail will give you a receipt for all of the cash. Okay. >> Will they? >> Yes. >> Yes. >> So, you searched my bag and you searched my car. >> No, we're inventorying your vehicle cuz it's getting towed. >> No, because you're >> As soon as as soon as your eye gets checked out, you're going in the back of my car and you're leaving. >> Mhm. We are inventorying your vehicle before it gets towed. It will go to a tow lot. >> Seizure and search. It's illegal seizure and search. >> Oh my god. I'm not taking this from you. I'm trying to make sure we have it all so that you get it back. >> Searching my vehicle. >> You know what? I'll just leave it in there. >> It's not a search. >> You just want me to leave it in there for the tow truck driver like a tip. >> Sir, you had to go through a book bag to get the cash. The automobile exception in US criminal law allows police to search a vehicle without a warrant if they have probable cause to believe it contains evidence of a crime, contraband, or illegal items. High speed, the traffic violation, her refusal to comply, and the physical signs of intoxication. The deputy likely had probable cause to both stop the vehicle and investigate for DUI. >> So that the eye can be checked out. May I have my phone, please? >> Not right now. It'll go with you when you go. No, I would like my phone. I have a right to contact. >> That's not how it works. >> That is how it works. >> Okay. >> No. Look, this is how you ended yourself in handcuffs. >> Don't tell me how to cop. >> Sir, you don't know how to cop. Where is my phone? >> Where you last left it? >> Can you make that step? No, ma'am. Okay, we'll come to this side. Over here. I would like my glasses and my phone. >> We're getting your glasses. >> We're getting your stuff. I would like my glasses and my phone, please. >> You're not getting your phone. Why would you withhold my phone? >> You can get it when you get to the jail. They will allow you to get five phone numbers off of it. So once the booking process is complete, then you can make your phone call. >> Write to me contact and call my commander. >> You don't know the things that you were saying. >> Ma'am, I have to right call my commander. >> Not a ma'am. We're going to count this money in front of you so you can be sure that we're not taking any of it. I don't want your money. I don't need your money. >> Sir, you've already violated. >> Just stop. >> Because you're searching in seizure without any cause. Seven. That's 570. >> Now I have my phone. 500 bundle. >> That one >> along with the receipts. The receipts. >> All that can be handed to the jail when we get there. >> Yep. >> There we go. I need to call my commander in game representation. >> You know, you think for a lieutenant colonel, you'd be able to follow instructions and and understand what we're telling you. >> Constitutional things. >> Yeah. You don't know what you're talking about. >> You don't know how to police. You're not a sheriff. >> Okay. Dentist. >> We'll stick to dentistry. >> Do you have any health problems? >> No. >> The only number I remember over there is uh the law enforcement desk. >> I probably know staff duty against him. That's it. >> Can you contact the command post and contact my commander, please? >> Can you contact the command post and the jail staff will take care of that for you. >> Sir, you need to do it now. >> No, I don't. I don't work for you. So, stop. >> You do work for me. You're a sheriff of the county, aren't you? >> But she said that you want a sheriff. >> I know the county. Do you have the ability to give me my phone so that I can make >> when you get to the jail? I'm >> good right now. This is a ton of pockets. >> You want me following where where would you guys be taking as an airman in the United States Air Force? You must contact my commander. >> The jail staff will do that. >> You must contact my commander. >> Stop it. >> Where will you guys be taking her? >> You work for the people of hospital. Okay. You're going to want me to follow Yeah. >> Okay. Easy enough. When you get processed through the jail, you're going to go through a scanner and then they're going to search you and if they find anything else on your person, it's an additional charge. >> Say it again, ma'am. Do >> you have anything in your boots? >> There's nothing in my boots. >> Okay. What he was explaining is if you have anything else on you when you get to the jail, it's an additional charge for introducing contraband. You understand? So if you have something on your person, needle, knives, anything like that, >> have my phone to contact my commander. >> No, that is your policy. That is not our policy. You don't do it at the jail. >> It is not lawful to detain an individual without being able to contact anybody. >> Just stop it. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Here's the additional idol person. >> Okay. You got cash that and I'll take this. Um, and then I'll go switch recuss right quick unless one of y'all want to do it and then I'm going to follow them. >> Go around that way. Which what's the easiest way to do that or whatever is easiest for >> Yeah, let me go around that way. I'll probably have easier access. >> Have you recently experienced any concussions, blunt force trauma of the head, like >> lost consciousness? Okay. >> Um, do you have any problems with your vision outside of wearing glasses? >> I'm very nearsighted, so >> Okay. um physical aspect. Are you able to walk in a straight line and turn around? >> Um to a certain degree. Depends on >> We're not doing about face movements. It'll be walking in a straight line like heel to toe and then small steps, turn around and walk back. And you said you had knee problems. Are you able to stand with a foot in the air? >> Is that going to aggravate it? >> Yeah, it hurts. >> Okay. So, I'll check your eyes first. Okay. And then we'll do >> dye in it. So, you just saw that. >> Yep. and let's get that checked out. All right, I'll make this easy. Can you just come right over here? Just go ahead and put your hands down at your sides. Can you see this light? Can you remove your glasses? Will you still be able to >> Well, I can see the light. Yeah. >> Okay. And you'd be able to track it. Okay, perfect. >> Okay, I'm going just have this light here with your eyes and your eyes only. Follow it. Don't move your head around. Some people have a problem with it. The next task is going to be um a nine-step walk and turn. Okay. Um we'll just go ahead and have you line up right here. >> So, you want me to walk nine [snorts] steps forward? >> Yes. Heel to toe. So, you're going to start like this. >> Can I turn around? >> Yep. Cuz that hurts my knee. I can't bring my colleagues together so much. >> Okay. So, I am now requesting that you submit to a lawful test of your breath for the purpose of determining its alcohol content. Would you be willing to take the test? >> Okay. >> Okay. All right. So, all you do is you're going to take a good breath in and when you blow out, you're going to blow. Wrap your lips around this completing the seal. And you're going to blow as steady as you can until I tell you to stop. Okay. >> Okay. Put my >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. >> And you can begin whenever you're ready. Keep going. All right. You're going to So, did you hear that beep that it did? You It's got to keep that beep going. So, >> okay. >> Take a good breath in. Blow. Keep blowing. Keep blowing. Keep blowing. Um, keep blowing, keep blowing, keep [music] blowing, keep blowing, keep blowing, keep blowing, keep blowing, keep >> Bonjovi was arrested and booked into Santa Rosa County Jail on charges of DUI, resisting an officer without violence, failure to obey a lawful order, and refusal to accept a citation.
