On January 17th, 2025, officers responded from a report from a parent about a daycare worker who may have put a child in a trash bin. When looking at the CCTV, officers noticed that wasn't all she did. >> Hi. >> Hi. Are you Anna? >> Oh, >> how you doing? Um, you want to talk here? You want to talk inside? >> Let's talk. What happened? >> Okay. So, um, we we were contacted in regards to an incident that occurred at the learning lab. >> Oh, really? >> Yeah. Do you know what we're referring to at all or No, >> huh? >> You know what we're talking about at all? >> I'm a little bit upset over there. >> You're upset over the learning lab? >> Okay. >> No, no, the the incident. >> Okay. Okay. We're basically here just trying to kind of get obviously we heard kind of a few things on how things went down. We're just trying to kind of get your side of how it went down. I'm a felon going to go to jail for >> not necessarily. Like I said, we're just trying to talk to you about kind of get what we don't really know what happened other than what we saw in the video. So I don't really know the the back behind everything. >> Usually my position is not in that in that in the prek. >> Okay. >> And um am I getting so >> every Yeah, you are being there's body cam footage right now. Yes. >> That's usually not my department. classroom. I was asked to step in during for a couple hours I guess during lunch nap time. Okay. After they had there was one uh one child, >> right? And different like taunting meaning you got to sit still or you know you got to sit in your you know it's it's like it's not that they know it's been adding up. You know what I mean? So I said you got to sit still you got to during that time you got to sit on your cat. No, I don't want to s stand on this cat, you know, and you know, you know, like silly children things. I we I said it once the girl, the assistant of the classroom, and this is Mr. Priscilla, you know, how are we going to stop this? They have, you know, he has to, you know, cuz P does it all the time. Well, how do you guys deal with it, you know? and she she didn't say anything. So, back and forth, you know, he kept on getting off his cat. I says, "Please stay on your cut once, twice, think a lot." It just happened. I was going by the garbage. So, I picked him up. And when I picked him up, it's not funny. And I put him in the garbage, but the garbage can. It's It's not a garbage, those little tail. I mean, the pale that you saw. >> Okay. From the footage, you can see the child attempt to get out of the trash bin, where she then places a blanket over to cover him up. She quickly takes him out after noticing other workers come by her. >> I'm sorry. >> What was the reasoning for putting you there? It was only yesterday or whatever. It ban he's like, how do you say quiet but unlike he's he's from the ones that are quiet but then in in a way you know he'll get you in the back. He just wasn't listening. >> So it's like the kids that's like what can you do with to me? You know what I mean? He's like I'm going to do what I want. It's >> I'm not trying I'm trying I'm not even going to explain anybody. 4 years old, right? >> Exactly. But that's at the And plus >> I never pretend I didn't but I'm saying not 100 a thousand% I should know much much better for this family because this family looks at every little detail. >> Yeah. whatever um let's say the lab or wherever her kids are school you know and that's good you know that these parents are hawks you know I mean it it's really good so I should have just known better what came for me I that's you know like today I've been up on 4:00 in the morning it was really really >> I apologized to the mother at that time that it bothered me so much She came and picked up her son. I I didn't even wait. You know, her son said something. She didn't know what he was saying or, you know, she said something about the says, "I'll tell you what." Wait, I wasn't hiding in. I thought right away. I says he wasn't listening. And he was, "Well, what can you say?" You know, um, not monkey. I don't can't remember the word that I used towards her. And he says, "What can you say? He's only four years old." Hey, she last said everything, you know. And >> was Can I ask you, was the garbage can >> I'm sorry. >> Full or empty? Was the garbage? >> It was empty. Clean. >> Clean. >> Garbage bag inside or No, >> no, there was no garbage. >> There was no garbage bag. >> No, no, no, no, no. >> I asked, why did you put him in the garbage? Cuz >> Or was it because you were upset with him or was it because he was he was moving around and you were trying to stop his movement? What was the reason that you put him in? >> First, I thought it was, how do you say something silly? Thinking maybe he'll listen, you know, not anything like like a punishment or anything like that. It was the split of the second. I'm like thinking, well, maybe like you said, maybe if I stop the movement, you know, maybe he'll get a little bit like, oh, you know, why am I not in the garbage? I mean, why am I confined? You know what I mean? I didn't think of I never at that point maybe I never thought it was like a garbage can you know and plus it went through my mind oh it's clean you know that I'm not gonna put them in no dirty garbage can you know >> and um and they did I mean I kept them safe it's like not the tilt or anything and then I took him out. >> So if you were just trying to confine him for moving around then what was the purpose for the blanket over the head? Oh, I said here it's here and take he said something and I says um no I'll go. He says something about the nap. I says, "Oh, here and take the blanket." You know, and then that's when I put the nothing. Like I said, my actions was very very my I would have had my eyes open. Very poor judgment. >> It was wrong of me. I would have never wanted anybody to treat my children like that, >> you know. I mean, would I went to this point? >> I don't think so. Our kids, you know, but he was not harmed. But like it says, you know, I apologize. I don't want any you know trauma from for the child you know I understand for the parents you know if I if I have to pay the consequences I will I have regretted >> deeply for my actions >> is that is that all that happened >> them in the garbage can >> and that's it >> that's it okay nothing else >> I mean not that day I've never done anything like that >> okay >> I mean not like that anything else even how do you say to I nothing. I mean, I usually sit there, I pat them, and you know that day when when that before that happened cuz I was patting another child and I said, you know, if I'm in this room again tomorrow, I think I'm just going to go sit down. See, it was already I was sitting down observing. And then when I got up, you know, everything clicked maybe really fast and that was my action. I wasn't, you know, the only thing that I was thinking like if I'm here tomorrow, you know, maybe I should just so sit there. I mean, what can happen, you know, on this? I'll get my chair and I'll sit there. You know, usually that's what I do with all the kids that, you know, have a little they need like ants in their pants, you know, or they need to be, you know, held on a little bit and comforted and patted or, you know, like I said, my regret is very high. I mean, during the day, the night I think about that mother, the father looking at that video. >> We we do have to ask the question of he's asking beforehand. Um, we reviewed the video. We looked through it. We're just wondering uh before that we see something with you and him by the back door of the business. >> Oh, I usually work by the K. I work usually in the kitchen and I just, you know, thinking like, well, if we go out of the classroom, maybe he'll start fidgeting. So, we stayed by the door. I open a little bit the door. He was stay by the door, but that was it. And then I brought him back in. >> Not in meaning in the class. At any point did you close the door without him? You're not you're saying and I was holding him out there. He >> was always open. He might have been like in front of me, but the door was always open. >> In this footage, you can see the woman grab the 4-year-old child and take him outside and shut the door on him in 19° weather on that day. Is that a whole while you was out there? >> I was I don't remember if I was even close enough to the kitchen. I don't remember. >> But I know we went to the kitchen. We went towards the back door. >> Were you inside the building still at the door? >> We were kind of both in the building. him was semi-indoor and the outdoor >> and so you thought by taking him out there what was what was the reason meaning that if >> by opening door that's what I'm asking reason >> but contingency that was the thing that like are you going to sit so you can't do this >> I love all those things >> we've heard the same thing about you and we've heard that same thing about you from multiple people >> that's what I'm saying I I don't you know that's what I'm saying >> but doesn't excuse certain Exactly. It doesn't excuse. I I'll say it a thousand times. I I'll say it a thousand times. That's what I'm saying. And especially this family. I mean, I'm not saying, but this family because they look at every little thing. That's what I'm saying. So, that's why I'm saying it's like first it was never in me and then why would I do it to this child? It was just like I said from the morning the last couple of those this week wasn't going well. I got in a car accident. A lot of things you know just just a lot of things you know and I'm and I just was just a snap but not in a bad way. my my my intentions had to say to keep them safe, you know, the video or as a as another parent, you know, doesn't see that. But I never not only to grace to anybody did I ever think of, you know, doing harm or threatening to him. Never said anything bad to him while I was holding him or towards the kitchen. Nothing. Nothing. >> I was saying is that we're still investigating basically. We don't have an answer for you right now. Uh whether it's criminal, whether it's not, we >> criminal? What do you mean? >> Criminal. >> Criminal. Criminal male like you were saying being arrested. >> Oh, criminal. I'm a little bit harder. >> I apologize. >> Um but so we don't know what what we're doing just as yet. We're still investigating. I want to make sure that we get everything right uh before we make any kind of decision. >> So, you don't have to answer this, but who um uh was it the lab that identifi notified the police? Okay. I mean I know sometimes you just can't answer or was it the parents and says do you want to file like you say criminal the initial report came through the parents. Correct. >> I'm sorry. >> The initial report came through the parents. >> I'm sorry again. >> The initial report came through the through the parents >> a thousand times. I understand looking at the video you know that what you want to do. You know, me personally, let's say what I did was bad, but I don't know. You know, I don't I would have got a personal lease involved, >> right? I I we don't know. That's why we're saying right now, we don't uh you know, that's why we're not here arresting you. We're still trying to figure out what what is the right course of action. >> I'm more than happy. I can give you my driver license if you don't want me to drive till the verdict comes out. No, no, no. I >> I'll surrender at the at the thing. >> Yeah, we appreciate we'll contact you. >> Or even if you come and say, you know, in 1 hour, can you be at the police station? You know, I mean, you can track me further down if I'm going to run for any of that. >> Can I get But I'll accept whatever whatever you give me. >> Okay. >> Like I said, bad judgment. It was wrong of me. I feel for the parents to have to witness to see that to their child like [snorts] the to these parents >> and when and when I speak to the mom I'll let I'll let her know >> has a disability I don't want to drama see I I feel for the family none of this happened to my I I don't know what came over imagine I said it right I text miss right away you know what happened the text and you know with the when the I saw her and I went straight. There was nothing for me to hide and you know I said right away wasn't listening. I said it right away. The mom I think at the time was shocked because had just said something different and I said the truth. You know what had happened? He wasn't listening and I put him on and I showed her I showed him. So it's not like I was it was that's how much it was bothering me that one two hours till the end of the day to get stuff done. Yeah, >> you know, it's not like I was hiding anything, you know, thinking of a second, not having a good day, you snap, whatever. You know, everybody had that little negativity. >> I had a bad day. It's going to cost me. It's going to cost me. >> Okay. When I when I when I when I speak to >> when I speak to the parents, I I will let them know that you were very very upset about what happened >> and you're very apologetic. Okay. That day I was crying in front of Miss Everything will be okay. And you know, there's God's eyewitness. I that day it bothered me so bad when she said I wanted to quit. Honestly, I wanted to quit, you know. I'm like, I don't think I can face, you know, these parents. I I can't what I did was so wrong, you know. >> Okay. Okay. Well, we appreciate talking to you. Okay. >> So, I got to read you a few things first and then we'll talk. Okay, >> I will not speak but I just have one question. You had said um I'm going to be fingerprinted and taken but if I have not been committed uh to the crime, how come should I get pictured and fingerprint? >> I'll explain everything to you. Okay. >> Oh, okay. I'm sorry for the question. >> I know you can't answer this, but it looks really bad. >> Um so again, I'll explain everything to you. Okay. >> Yes, sir. Whenever you're being questioned in regards to a crime, you have a right. >> I did a crime. >> Yes. Yes. That as far as what we see, you you you did a crime. Yes. >> What kind of will you say? What kind of a crime? >> Yeah. Absolutely. Like I explained to you, it's child endangerment. >> Huh? >> Child endangerment. >> That's a crime. >> Yes. Yes, ma'am. Now, again, this incident is all on camera, so it's pretty self-explanatory as to kind of what happened. Essentially why I have you here is to determine why it happened. What push it to that level. With that being said, do you want to talk to me about what happened? >> No. >> You do not want to talk to me. Okay. I I totally understand that. Okay. >> Do you think I should speak to >> I I can't give you that advice. Do you understand? So now now at this point, not to scare you. You're like at this point you're not free to go. Does that make sense? >> Free to go. >> Yeah. So, at this point, you're no longer free to go. You're going to be charged with a crime today. Do you understand that? Right. >> Oh, the first time I was free to go. >> Correct. Yeah. When we were out by your house, we didn't arrest you. We didn't put you in handcuffs, >> right? That was just talking to you kind of figure out. >> Did they offer to go in handcuffs? >> No, no, no, no, no, no. You're here. You're going to be taken back. This This is just you acknowledging your rights. Okay. >> But if I >> And like I said, everything's everything's recorded right now. >> So, this isn't trying to trick you into anything. This is >> So it doesn't m if I signed it or not. It's on camera that you read my right. >> Correct. But this is just you acknowledging my with your signature. You don't want to sign. >> Okay. Okay. >> Anne Petru was charged with child endangerment. She plead guilty and was sentenced to one year of court supervision and 100 hours of community service. Was justice served?
