Okay, here we go. Wildlife officers get a tip that a group of fishermen are catching a bunch of undersized fish. How's it going, guys? I'm Officer Jacobs with FWC. I got a report that you guys may have been keeping some undersized fish. That's why I'm here. What kind of fish? Uh, snapper. Mango snapper. Correct. So, I was just wondering. I see you guys had some I didn't know. You didn't know there's a size limit? Is that Is that all the fish you have right there? All right. Um, yeah. Now, I can tell you already those are under size. That's a specific size. They have to be 10 in. Okay. All right. Um, do you guys all have IDs? I don't mind. Is it inside? All right. That's That's what you have right there. And you said there's more in the boat over there. All right. Wow. Did he say he didn't know there was a size limit? Is this your guys's house or is it a Airbnb? It's your house. No, I'll I'll grab them. Um, if you want to go ahead and grab your ID for me. The officer quickly notices a bunch of teeny tiny mangrove snappers. So, yeah, he's at the right place. All right, let's keep this in here for right now. I'm sorry. I really had no idea there was that. Do you guys fish often or? Not really. No. No. Okay. I mean, I used to a lot when I come here, but that was when I was like five or six. We haven't been up here. Okay. All right. Um, so this is this is the deal. I can tell a majority of these are undersiz. I'm I'm actually not seeing any of them of size. Maybe one or two in that one. Um, so this is the the problem with it. Possession of undersized mangrove snapper is a misdemeanor offense. Okay. Um, it looks like you guys are also pretty much over the bag limit as well. The uh bag limit on these guys is off the top of my head five per person. So yeah, there's two more that were just left to the store because they don't like fish. Okay. So, it's Yeah, probably might still be open. Okay. Um, so they just went to Publix, so they'll be back. Yeah. Okay. Um, so this is what I'm going to do for right now. I need you to all pay attention here. This is not like TV. This I'm going to read this to you, it's not like TV, you're not going to jail. I can promise you if all are not going to jail today. All right. Um, you have the uh you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can will be against you in the court of law. You have the right to talk to a lawyer and have him present with you while you're being questioned. Um, it all has to do with letting these guys be able to have the chance to breed at least once before they get harvested. That way, our populations don't get wiped out. Correct. All right. Um, not a single one of them was of size. Now, was everybody fishing? I'm assuming that right now everybody was fishing. And with how they were piled in the boat, you guys have no idea who caught which ones. Um, so and also the bag limit on them is five per person. Um, so all of you guys are over the bag limit. We split them down the the middle. You guys are still all over the bag limit. Um, so give me a few minutes while I figure out what route I'm going to go. Like I said earlier, this is a misdemeanor offense. Um, one being in possession of undersized and being in possession of over the back. Okay. All right. So, if you guys just want to hang out up here on the porch for a little bit, um, it's going to take me a minute to go through some paperwork and figure out what route I'm going to go on this. Okay. Um, for right now, actually, I'm going to walk with you back there. We're going to try to see if we can't put these guys back in the water. Maybe we'll get some of them that'll survive. In total, the six fishermen had 42 undersized mangrove snapper. All the fishermen were cited for undersized and over the limit of mangrove snapper, which is a misdemeanor.
